I never knew it was possible to add garri in a pot of soup!!! Just wow… One of my friend just posted this on her timeline and I came on RUclips to watch the entire process… looks yummy too!
I hope you didn't pay any mind to the people talking about never seeing garlic or ginger. That's the formula of thought that keeps Nigeria where it is. We are never willing to give innovation the time of day. Say na tradition, tradition my foot. If your grandma didn't use it, that's okay. Don't pop up here attacking the lady because she decided to spice things up. Garlic and ginger are great foundational spices to any meat/fish based dish. You only need to master the proportions. Cos you've never seen or tried it before doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Well done lady!
I have watched different method of preparing orobo owoh soup, honestly this is my most prefered method, those complaining why did she use ginger to spice d meat, it was very little to mk it meat tasty which is optional..some even add Calabar nutmeg pepper soup spice innovation & variety is d spice of Life Well-done sist Will different try it out
lol, I know owoh soup is a straight forward soup without onions, ginger or garlic, but a little to steam your meat is something I do all the time. honestly, is good. I cook all my meals with two major ingredents that mean so much to me (garlic & ginger) a little foundation of that in your meal does not change the taste of the food, is not even notice but I do it because of their health benefits. So is totally optional like I said 😊 don't forget to subscribe👍🏼
When I was born people don't use phones but they do now.Everything changes with time. She only used it in steaming it And it was a very small quantity. Everybody cooking can't be same.
First time here. Searching to know your various kinds of food in general as I prepare myself to serve my husband better after the marriage rites, to enable me give him the best outside my tribe’s dishes. Am Igbo and getting married to an Urhobo. We don’t do potash in my family bc we react to it. What can I use in place of potash? Again, can I use a little bit of cocoa yam or yam as thickener instead of the garri? Thank you
Urhobo no dey use GARLIC, ginger, onions, tapioca and bullion cubes for owo! Please stop adding western ingredients to our native foods. You are spoiling tradition for the youngsters.
ERICKA, thank you for your comment but I would like to clarify some things. Firstly, garlic, ginger is very good for the body, I added them because I personally cook all my food with them. I did not mention that it is a must for you to add it to yours. I Cook to express myself, my taste, and my culture. Everybody expresses themselF differently in cooking. I have tasted owo soup made with negro pepper (uhrienrien) and it tasted great. Tapioca flour is starch in case you don't know what it is. Urhobo uses starch to thicken, in fact, some people don't use garri but only starch, while some use only garri and some use both as shown in this video. We also use Maggi which is known as bouillon cube and native salt combine while some may prefer only native salt to taste. Like I said it is a matter of choice! but if you are not pleased with this video there are other videos ow you can check on youtube or better still share your own recipe so we all can also learn from you as an expert of owo. Thank you!
@@ogagaskitchentwist7477 Everyone knows ginger and garlic are good for the body. That was not my point. Same way English people don’t add bitter leaf or ogbono (both healthy as well) to their lamb stew or Indians don’t add palm oil or urheri (both healthy) to their curry is the same way we don’t need to spoil our native dishes with foreign ingredients to appear “knowledgeable” on what’s healthy. Turmeric is healthy, kale is healthy, beetroot is healthy…… why didn’t you add those as well? I’m not an Owo expert but apparently neither are you as for sure, Urhobo grandmothers didn’t add ginger and garlic to owo and it tasted AUTHENTICALLY amazing! You can call yours Ogaga’s Owo or may be Indian Owo, as it’s definitely not Urhobo. Thank you.
