    I cruised San Francisco with Lee while playing this song.
    It was surreal. Lee is the Wizard od Harmonica.

      I mean, he was only the harmonica player for War.

  • @lowriderbandfan
    @lowriderbandfan 10 лет назад +28

    Lee Oskar is the original harmonica player for WAR. He is not JUST a harmonica player. I KNOW everyone and their mama knows, 'Lowrider', 'Why Can't We Be Friends?', 'Cisco Kid', 'Spill The Wine', 'Slippin' Into Darkness', and many more by WAR. That's his harmonica sound on all WAR music. Lee Oskar was selling out concert arenas while Pitbull was still in pampers. Whoever produced 'Timber' should have done their homework and personally asked Lee Oskar to collaborate, instead of going the "cheap" way by stealing someone else's art. Pitbull's producers - "Pretty soon you're gonna pay, YEAH!"

      The label got permission to use the song and Lee Oskar was credited as a songwriter on Timber (check ASCAP). Apparently Oskar didn't receive royalties. It's not that simple of a case.

    The harmonica snippets are exactly the same, although Timber's has been sped up a bit. I think this guy should get the 3 mill, Timber is a shitty song and the harmonica part alone brought me back just to listen to it over and over again.

    • @SeanWeisman
      @SeanWeisman 10 лет назад +1

      I personally hate rap, but I like Timber. Yes, the riff should not have been used, but 3 million is a bit much. At some point, it will be almost impossible to create new music without taking bits and pieces from older songs.

    • @LiL24FuGiTiVe

    • @SeanWeisman
      @SeanWeisman 10 лет назад +1

      I agree. I didn't say we have reached that point yet. All I'm saying is that there are only so many notes in a key and only so many patterns and rhythms you can create with them.

    Just my two cents... the "Timber " riff that everyone is referring to is definitely a Lee Oskar inspired riff. However I the harp player on "Timber" is a Dallas Texas guy by the name of Paul Harrington. You hear a lot of his playing in popular t.v. commercials. Oh, and for those of you talking about royalties.., Harrington received a flat fee of $1000.00 and that's it. he gets no royalties. that sucks..

  • @chipbella78
    @chipbella78 10 лет назад +22

    Oh wow..really PitBull & Ke$ha.. @ 19 seconds in you hear "I'm YELLING TIMBER"

  • @emmaah565
    @emmaah565 10 лет назад +3

    I checked ASCAP and Lee Oskar, Keri Oskar and Greg Errico are actually credited as songwriters on Timber, so they should have been receiving royalties. There was probably some confusion over which publisher had rights to the song.

    • @allwriteify
      @allwriteify 10 лет назад +1

      It's amazing how bad the media reporting has been on this case. The news media didn't even bother to check ASCAP and BMI to see if the songwriters had been credited or not. They clearly were, so this is not the simplistic case of stealing they're trying to make it out to be.

    • @emmaah565
      @emmaah565 10 лет назад +2

      allwriteify Because Pitbull and Kesha steal from little guy is a more attention grabbing headline than Lee Oskar may have been ripped off by his publisher. And people actually fall for it.

    Respect to Lee Oskar for the background sample from this song, that Ke$ha and Pitbull use in their video of 'Timber'. Although, Lee Oskar doesn't actually play the harmonica on 'Timber'. They hired a session musician for a one time fee instead, to "make it sound like Oskar'. Guess they didn't want to pay royalties. Lee Oskar and the original band WAR that he was/is a part of, do not get the credit they so rightfully deserve. With classics like, 'Lowrider', 'Why Can't We Be Friends?', 'Cisco Kid', 'Spill The Wine', 'The World Is A Ghetto', 'Slippin' Into Darkness', and so much more, WAR with Lee Oskar, are some of music's most recognized, yet unsung artists.

    why is everybody saying Pitbull and Ke$ha stole the music.....THEY DID NOT WRITE TIMBER PEOPLE.....you people should understand that these artist today do much writing for themselves they just sing whatever their record label tell them to sing and do whatever they tell them to do. So Pitbull and Ke$ha are not the ones to be blamed

    • @TheHabitableZone
      @TheHabitableZone 10 лет назад +1

      Kesha and her mom wrote the lyrics on the chorus and Pitbull wrote his verses. Sermstyle and Cirkut created the music. Sony did get a license to use San Francisco Bay and Lee Oskar, Keri Oskar and Greg Errico did get credited as songwriters on Timber. The problem is they didn't receive their royalties for some reason.

      You really said this in 2019?

      @Ethan Weitendorf Sony Music acquired the rights to the song from the record company that produced it, but the songwriters decided to sue even though I don't believe they held ownership over the music itself.

    when I listened to Pitbull's Timber song, I knew I heard the melody from somewhere. I believe this is not the only song though...

      Mase's All I Ever Wanted samples the same song but at 0:15 not where Pitbull sampled it

      And Lee Oskar himself lifted the melody from Steams 'Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye'

    Once again, people on youtube don't understand sampling.

      This sentence sums up the audience of music. Everything is stealing and copying, but no one has ever heard of samples. *Cough* Lambada *Cough* On the floor *cough* feel this moment *cough* take on me ...

      CookieWhisperer The original songwriters were credited, so it's not stealing. I'm sure they're more than happy with the massive royalty checks they received.

    I'm beginning to think that all the great melodies, like this one, have been recorded already, so all that's left for today's songwriters is to either borrow/sample/remake or come up with songs that don't have melodies (like the EDM songs).

      I'd have to disagree. Never will music not have new amazing melodies to be discovered. We just live in a time where fame outweighs the passion to create somethig new truly for the love of music.

    The harmonica in this song sounds kinda similar to "Hey Baby" by Bruce Channel

    Considering that Oskar stole the melody from Steams 'Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye' it's a bit rich that HE'S suing Kesha for royalties
