I had a couple other ideas: 1. Can Mario be crushed, perhaps by Thwomp or other means. 2. Is it possible to make the overworld map an auto-scroller, and then get left behind, either by not moving or getting stuck behind something (in case the scroll pushes you). Kind of assuming both will fail, but just some ideas I had that could possibly warrant investigating.

Mario chose to be invincible after his pain for his 35th Ann... But that of course comes to a cost. Mario can't do much. :( He can't jump high, can't run fast. Sometimes being immortal ain't so fun.
I'm not surprised he can't die, but I am surprised the results aren't consistent. Some enemies push him, some phase right through, some damage but don't kill. Pretty strange. Do enemies also die in the death area?
Make a video where when you Spond into the world you just die, but you half to figure out a certain way to not die by secret code that you put into the controller
