The Crossblades may not be great for damage, but people have found some fun ways to use them in combos. When the Crossblades keep spinning against an enemy they are essentially locked in position, taking small damage and unable to block, allowing you to keep hitting them. Thank you for the video and the effort to make it. I'm glad you had a fun experience, and wish you fun on the rest of the series as well.
Oh I see ! Interesting, I never thought about it like that, thanks for the tip :) Thank you for the kind comment too, I'm sure I'll enjoy the other games as well, I'm very excited to discover how the story unfolds !
@@hourliche You're welcome, and thank you for the reply! In hack-and-slash (or sometimes called character action. There's a lot of debate on the "correct" genre name) games, people who are strongly into it will often want to try to find ways to challenge themselves with all the moves on offer. Making combos, "styling" on them. In stuff like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry and Soulstice (that last one is one of my favourites), there's Style Meters, which may encourage a bigger public to try out more weaponry and can have bonuses in gameplay. Darksiders games don't really have a style meter, but the base combat feels good and there's still neat things on offer. DS2 is a bit more on the RPG side of things, BUT the ideas of the combat in Darksiders 1 are expanded too. For example, multiple different kinds of secondary weapons, all of which have a unique Charge - Perfect Release attack. And the gun you get there refills a bit of Wrath on every hit. I personally want to replay it with underleveled gear to really make the most of the weapons & magic rather than the numbers. All this said: I hope you don't feel like what i describe is the only right way of playing it. Older fans of any game may be a bit... zealous in ensuring that a newcomer doesn't misunderstand anything. You have fun with the game however you want. And I hope it's a lot of fun. The Darksiders series has a lot of ups, downs, and in-betweens and fan opinions can *strongly* differ from one another, yet as a series it's still generally something special and beloved. Wish you fun and fortune as the tales of the Riders unveil themselves!
Hi again! Honestly this is a new genre for me, I've played tons of games but rarely got a hold on hack and slash ones, except for Diablo, but it's super different from what we're talking about. I remember watching my cousin play DMC back in the days and always wanted to try it myself, guess I'll grab these too if I get the chance but yeah, Darksiders was a pleasure and I'm looking forward to seeing more, especially since you tell me the second one is aiming more towards the rpg aspect of things ! I admit that I often find myself in a situation where I'll aim for efficiency more than style - but I'm curious to try, I might actually discover a new way of playing ! (Also, I might've played many games and have good sense of what I'm supposed to do, but my skills aren't definitely the best which means styling could make me feel like I actually have some skills haha) Since I posted that video I only get positive feedback and the community is super chill - thanks for the welcome !
@@hourliche Beware with DMC2 if opportunity allows for it.i It's generally considered the worst game in the series and recommended to avoid it. Despite your issues with the Griever's lair and the Black Throne, seeing you describe it as a pleasure is a heartening sign. I definitely want to recommend Soulstice too, since it's one of my favourites, though it's not the easiest game in the genre to get into and drags on a bit during levels. Still has a lot to offer in both gameplay and story. Go for it, I hope you'll have fun in trying to experiment! There's no harm in trying... at least, not for you. There's a lot of harm for your sparring partners :P You may be slicing and dicing and swooping and sweeping enemies from left to right and back again before you know it. Slamming foes away with mace swings, pulling them back with a ghostly arm, shoot them with a gun before they're at the halfway point to stop them, then dash forward and jump up to hack at them a bit with your scythes before swiping with the mace again, and more fun stuff. a fun bit anyfans who dont know. the Developers modled each game based on the personality of the horseman you play! You played the first, so I suggest you DarkSiders Genesis (it's a prequel, not a spin -off. You need to play it for understanding many stuff) DarkSiders 3 DarkSiders 2
The order actually goes Darksiders Genesis Darksiders 1 prologue till War is defeated Darksiders 2 prologue till Death finishes up with Crowfather Darksiders 3 complete game Darksiders 2 finish the rest of the game Darksiders 1 finish the rest of the game The chain of events are all based on Strife and his guns as both War and Death eventually get them after Strife faces the Destroyer in DS3
@stupidfathobbit4262 dude, you can't split up the game. Do you really think someone would play the first 5 hours on DarkSiders, drop It, and play DarkSiders 2? You makes no sense. Also, thanks for the spoiler for the people that might not have played it yet
The sequels are about the same quality combat wise, just a bit different. Though from what I remember, the pacing is much better with less annoying puzzle segments. Especially in 3. There has been another teased that one will exist but nothing properly announced about it yet. I have always hoped for a co-op one that acts as a sequel to the first game where you can play as all 4 horsemen. As 2 and 3 take place before/alongside game 1.
IMO Darksiders 1's puzzles were amazing and turned out to be a highlight and one of the more memorable aspects of the game for me(the lore, character design, voice acting/dialogue, cut-scenes and animation were all extremely memorable of course). They shouldn't stray away from puzzles IMO, but I see the need for a feature that let one toggle hints. I know puzzles can be a hard filter for a lot of players, but puzzles that are just the right level of challenging are so incredibly satisfying. They also serve to make the character feel more resourceful and cunning. Though it's obviously impossible to make puzzles a 'one size fits all', which I think developers have become acutely aware of and a lot of modern games stray away from puzzles(unless the genre is puzzle dedicated). The IQ distribution of the population/target audience dictate the difficulty of puzzles. To circumvent this they would have to make a separate difficulty setting for puzzles, with unique puzzles for each difficulty. Which makes level design far more complicated and the juice may simply not be worth the squeeze. If the puzzles are too easy they're just tedious, but trivial chores slowing down the progression and serve as a barrier for the fun. If they're too hard they're frustrating and break the immersion as you're forced to look up walkthroughs. But when puzzles are just the right amount of challenge they're so incredibly satisfying for the player, regardless of were they fall on the IQ distribution. (I'm not trying to make jabs at anyone's intelligence or boast. Long sessions and fatigue also impact the challenge of puzzles.)
