I've started reading the books for River, but my favorite now is definitely Catherine. Every character is brilliantly written, but she is just fantastic!
From South America, I watch the series and I find it extraordinary, I like English humor, I have already seen 3 seasons and I am impatiently waiting for the fourth season. I love the character of Jackson Lamb, with the unkempt look of him, and full of farts, hahaha. By the way, the rest of the cast are very good actors.
Read the first couple books by Mick Herron, they are just so great and when I heard the were going to do a series, I thought no way. Then they nabbed Gary as Jackson, and they had my attention. Best series currently on the telly, by far. Fun to re-watch as well. Thank you, Insider, from a new subscriber. Cheers!
Well, we all know if we've worked our way through Herron's books what will happen to some of the characters portrayed by the actors here. More than that, my lips are sealed.
Archetypes anyone? They are part of the deep, unspoken power of these novels. Lady Di [Taverner] is the flip-side of the original Lady Di. The former is calculating, cold-blooded and unscrupulous, where the former was spontaneous, sensitive and vulnerable. Lamb, on the other hand, is a part of ourselves we are longing to let loose on the world: apparently chaotic, blind, unthinking and invulnerable, he's our Dyonisian side, as is Shirley (only as she appears in the books, though, not the show, unfortunately). We are sandwiched between our Di(e) and Lamb sides, colliding and just longing to emerge. These characters give vent to it for all of us.
This show is puerile and totally cliche ridden and the nasty bile that comes out of Gary Oldmans mouth is totally predictable and we know he is a better actor than this bilge allows him to be. No!!!

Yeap, a real shame lol but it’s part of the story. Great story and show though. Love it. Some of the lines Lamb has are brilliant.
