Removed, cleaned and reinstalled mine. Almost 100 miles later no codes and running smoothly. Most straightforward video on the dreaded p1354 code and how to remove. Did it in 30 minutes in 28 degree weather. The hardest part is removing the @#$@#$#@@ electrical connector.
Excellent! And my excuse was it was 12F here in Colorado, what a wuss I am :) I did manage to get the filter out, it was quite a task but it was not super dirty. The other filter looks even harder to get out. I have the OCV on order and hopefully when it hits 55F I'll change them both tomorrow :) That V6 is actually quite peppy in the Avalon vs my Audi V8, certainly lower speeds it seems to have more pull.
very, very, helpful video ,I just came from the toyota dealer cause my check engine light came on and the awd light as well ,and they told me it was the oil control valve and that for them to do it ,it will be $900 , i just checked online and the price of the valve it self is $95 + shipping, online it will take like a week to get to me and at autozone with a order it will take 2 days and it will be $109 sooo thans toyota but no thanks after watching this video and I do am mechanical oriented ,,,Ill be doing this my self !!! thanks so much

Thanks for the video - car had been throwing a CEL on and off for a couple of weeks. Tried pulling a code when the CEL was off and nothing came up - however, had a recurrence of the issue and had the OBD2 with me at the time and it came up as P1354. Tried this (but only cleaned the OCV) and it seems to have worked... it was only a short test drive but the car was behaving and the CEL did not return so far.

Just unplug the dam thing and leave it unplugged. I have on my 1.8vvt vectra which has 2 of them unplugged them both months ago and my car runs so so so much better variable valve timing is only for emissions anyway. People say unplugging them causes codes and performance issues i have non of the above infact I was suffering with lag and flat spot issues when connected now im not. If you do get codes just simply buy a second hand set dont fit them just plug them in a cable tie them to the frame of the car tricking the ecu into thinking there fitted. By running without vvt is the same as having an engine without vvt unplugging only returns the cam to base setting just remember to reconnect for emissions test
Is there a separate OCV filter for each OCV? I need to either replace the filter or the OCV on my rear bank but I can't figure out where the filter is. Thanks!
+David McChesney it looks like a bolt head that screws into the end of the cylinder head on the driver side, it is a hollow bolt but you cant see that until you remove it
Which one is bank 2? You said the front is Left and the rears are Right but i have a code for bank 2. It is also bringing up a code for the knock sensor on bank 2. I'm not sure if that is related. I have a thread over at toyota nation about the issues with the car(00avalon).
Can the Oil Control Valve cause a P0300 and and P0 whatever for the cylinder that's missing?? I've replaced plugs, coil packs and wires and still getting these misfires on a 2001 Camry 2.2.
ChaplainK Danny: P0300 means there's a random misfire. It is not cylinder specific. The OCV controls the VVT (Variable valve timing). When it malfunctions the entire cylinder bank is affected (eg. P0301,P0303,P0305 on a V6 engine).Since you have a 4 cyl....P0301-04. If you have just one additional code (eg P0304), then you know the problem is with cylinder #4 only....likely a plug, coil pack, injector etc. Since you've already changed the plugs and coils, you've ruled those out, so turn you attention to fuel/air related issues. If only one code (again eg. P0304) comes up, look for a dirty/malfunctioning injector. If there are multiple codes, look for something that affects all the injectors like fuel pressure. Usually start with a fuel pressure test. Most loan a tool programs will have a tester. If it's low, change the fuel filter 1st, then re-check. The pump doesn't fail as often as people think.
ChaplainK There could also be air (vacuum) leakage. Could be an intake manifold gasket, bad injector seal, etc. There are a number of RUclips videos that show how to check for vacuum leaks. You can build your own "Smoke machine"....Google: Smoke Machine, Old Skool Funk.... he made a good one, but you don't have to drill through the glass jar like he did... just drill the 2nd hole through the lid. Make sure to keep the air pressure from the compressor low....4 or 5psi is enough. Use a regulator on the air line if you can. Good Luck.
Low Budget Creativity I have replaced all of the injectors and most of the time it runs beautifully. Occasionally it misfires and the check engine light flashes.
I had a intermittent misfire on cylinder number 2 a p302 code after much trial and error it was corrected by replacing my variable valve timing solenoid.

bank 2 is the front bank (closest to you), bank 1 is the rear bank (firewall side)

Not sure about OP, but on my 2002 Avalon I got P0300, P0302, P0304, and P0306. This fix seems to have cleared everything up.
