For some reason the O ring that I bought from Holden in Australia for my 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine was Blue & the original one was green. Apparently the thicker red O ring is used in the truck engines. Whatever O ring it is they get cut easily upon installation & even at the factory !
in your opinion will the oring cause oil pressure issues only when the car is hot? my pressure is always perfect when driving and when cool but once hot from driving it drops to 13-20 as oppose to 40+ when cold an driving thanks
I had the exact same issue with low oil pressure, when i purchased this vehicle my oil pressure was always around 50-60 psi, however after i installed the first engine in 2012 it ran at around 40 psi at idle, i only got 20k out of that engine, the one i installed in August i took the time and drilled a second hole so that i could seal the pickup tube with a sturdy gasket, let me tell you drilling and tapping in close quarters ain't no joke, however now i'm running constant 50 psi even at idle, i think GM did customers a disservice by not adding that extra mounting bolt for the pickup tube, please don't try this if you don't feel comfortable doing so.
I just did mine. It had the groove and I used the melting green ring. I lubricated it with oil first but it pushed in hard… once pushed in it seemed like there was a reasonable amount of movement though. Same exact behavior after replacement, 30psi hot idle, it always had at least 40 before about 20k miles ago. Coming up on 300k and I was hoping this would fix it. So these aren’t supposed to push them fairly hard?
That wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t have squeezed number there lost . I would use the green print it’s a little thicker might have to go online at Melling.
Did you recently do any kind of mods to motor that might have caused low oil pressure , have you tried another pressure sensor ? Ususally it’s in the mains and not a easy fix unless you send it out to have crank work done. Might try to put in new pump from Melling a high volume pump
Extra oil will always work to check to see if it is the o ring as it covers the oil ring opening with oil. You may have other issues, but this will rule the o ring out.
Thanks for the tips. Could it still be o ring if psi drops as it warms up? Also, how long can i run it with 3 extra quarts as i need to get the temps up.
I'm having the same issue after my rebuild. I've changed the thermostat already because it was running a stock temperature thermostat and thinking it needs a heavier weight oil. Maybe 10w40
@ChitownMilcrib I ended up going with 10w40 about a month ago and now the pressure stabilizes just about right after warm up. I think I still want to upgrade my pump to at least match the rest of my build. It's a bit loose so switching the oil helped tremendously!
My 2013 Silverado does the same thing. It runs ok until the engine gets to operating temperature and gradually loses pressure until it's a tad bit over 0psi.
Okay I have a question planning on doing the AFM/DOD delete. With cam lifers and new gaskets on my LC9. And I was bitten by the while I’m in there big. So I’m gonna do new oil pump etc. etc. is it possible to get a oil pump with to much volume for a lc9. I just want to put a good oil pump in my truck after doing the AFM/DOD delete.
Hv pumps are if your engine is very worn, just use a tall oil filter, i presume you are using the truck oil pan? If anything I would have a 60-80 psi spring in the pump with 40+ weight oil.
My pickup tube is around .87’ on both bottom and top (straight) , should I use the black o-ring ? Or should I put a oem orange (a bit thicker than black, but thinner than green o-ring) Oil pump : melting 10295
But as he stated don’t force it Vaseline on both mating surfaces should at the most feel a slight pop when the tube and oring seats shouldn’t have to force it with the bolt or anything yet on the other hand makes sure it’s snug when it seats
2009 Chevy 6.0 L very very low oil pressure at stop lights lights go off I change the oil pump high volume change the change the O-ring to the red put thicker oil shut off the oil pressure relief valve in the pan 4 lb of pressure at stop lights go off been that way for a year the truck has plenty of power no smoke no tick it will pull a house down 160,000 me what am I missing here please help anyone.
Is it possible to loose pump prim after it sets overnight , it seems to be doing that for whatever reason not reall sure but when I start first thing in the morning it sounds dry then has soon has oil pressure gets up it quits . And it won’t do it again until it sets for awhile several hours or more. Just wondering if it was possible and would it be pump , oring, or filter. Thanks
Also remembered a major problem with oil divert or in pan , had a idea and it wasn’t a good one at all. Took out divertor thought it would help but the opposite was true. It caused a lot of problems with using a lot of oil , leaks at rear cover and decreased pressure has soon has I fixed it everything return back to normal. Don’t remove it and leave out bad idea !
Low oil pressure to me was at 40 and it should of been slot more since I had just went thru motor, oil divertor I guess being left open caused a lot of problems but I did notice pressure went up to bout 65-70 much better.
I have a 2003 gmc yukon 6.0 v8 about a week ago I noticed my oil pressure was dropping used to be a tad under 40 while at about 1800 rpm going 60-65 mph now its at the quarter mark so 20 psi. I've seen that it could be that o ring what do you think?
@@nufnuffz28 my g8 gt has an oil pressure gauge and at idle it’ll go down to one bar and starting overheating I’ll have to rev it up to keep the oil pressure going and I just don’t know what the issue is. Has a fresh oil change and no check engine light just the oil light..
@@crazyfrank3866 The overheating and 1 bar oil pressure thing are most likely not related. The overheating is the fans, radiator, or low coolant most likely!

Great info. Doing a build now and installing a new pump. Definitely will be going in to the install more confidently with this info. Thanks.
Glad it helped
Genius about the check for oil o ring by jacking rear of truck up never thought of that
Works great for sure

Did you have to drop oil pan a little and raise the engine for pickup tube bolt?
Drop the pan slightly
I have a 2017 w low oil pressure and I was going to replace the pickup o-ring but the parts store said they don’t know w I’m talking about
Try their commercial counter if they have one.
Yes they sell parts barely

Also your lifters will sound like they fail if you pinch the oring. Shop did that to me this week

What about the gen 4 ls motors 2007-2014 5.3/6.2 they take the orange ones right? All the mellings that come up is orange?

Check your ground for that sensor
So I can just take the front of the engine off instead of dropping the front end and oil pan
You have to at least lower the front of the oil pan
What was the oil pressure when it was low
This one was 12 or so hot idle
