- Encampment fires are a huge problem in Seattle, with the city averaging several fires each day, often under overpasses or other critical pieces of infrastructure. One camp, near I-5 in north Seattle, has been the scene of numerous fires over the past few weeks.
What look to be propane explosions can be seen at 1:35, 3:07 and 3:35.
@WATrafficCamResponses captured more in depth footage of the earlier encampment fires, • Engine 17 knocks down ... and • Engine 17 taps another... .
Clip listing:
0:00 - Intro
0:12 - Earlier fires at same encampment
0:39 - Suspicious person, possible starting fire
1:30 - First signs of fire, and first propane explosion
2:49 - Camera zooms in as fire grows
4:14 - Engine 22 arrives on scene
5:36 - Fires at other encampments caught on traffic camera
With a lone person entering the camp and immediately after the fire starts and he takes a bike from the camp it appears to be arson and robbery directed against the homeless community.
10/10 chance that person is also homeless, and on drugs. Homeless people victimize each other the worst. With that said, nobody cares who set the fire, or who it was against. This is Seattle, there are no more laws, nobody cares, they just clean up after them as the city rots to the core. This is what voters wanted, if they didn't, they wouldn't elect people that invited the homeless with endless funding for freebies.
Against? Its one of the homeless who set the fire..... then he returns after stealing someone's bike to admire his handiwork.
@@billbored8277 how do you know he was homeless? He didn't stay to sleep there, he set it alight and immediately left.
@@playwithmeinsecondlife6129 The way he looked, wandering around in the street, wandering through traffic, oblivious to cars, always disappearing into the bushes, randomly showing up with a bike, and doing it during the day.... 37 years of living in Seattle, I just know the look.
But please continue with the, "he's attacking the poor houseless victims" bullshit. 🙄🙄
PS, he probably stayed at the camp on the right.
@@billbored8277 So never having spoken to him, seeing him only from a distance, you know him better than his own mother. And you've branded him with the label of the people you hate.
What an asset to any community.
If you're referring to the fire, I couldn't agree more.
Do you have other options for homeless people?
@@Wavepush Yes, I do, but I'm sure you, or society in general, would find it unacceptable.
@@daryllect6659I say throw their buts in jail that's what they did in the early days they went to jail and they got help they got food they got water nowadays they just don't care
@@Wavepush You don't know a solution? Disgusting and arrogant city-council. Create a big home for those homeless people and feed them and give them enough money.
2:50 Heads up, those weren't explosions. Propane tanks are equipped with emergency relief valves which release pressure when the pressure in the tank gets too high, which is what you're seeing in this video. The spurts of flames to the sky is exactly what that is. Trust me, if that was a boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion, you would know it.
Basically Levels Everything Very Effectively
Oh, that makes sense - thanks for the info!
Definitely a relief valve popping off, not a BLEVE.
I can almost guarantee some homeless person was trying to cook some meth and it went bad 💥
@@jayski8987 Nah. People are doing fentanyl now. Meth was fifteen minutes ago. Someone probably passed out with a lit cigarette and set his house on fire.
Not legal to set fire in the city. Looked to me like maybe two people working together both in black with hoodies and white tennis shoes. One walked along on the opposite side observing.
Portland Oregon has the exact same problem!!
Portland is actually worse!
Seattle does not care.
One way to put a stop to the encampment fires would be to get rid of all the encampments. All you need is a backhoe and a bunch of dumpsters.
And a home for them!
@@sm3296 Your home.
@@sm3296 No, that's up to them just like all of us. No free rides.
How about getting rid of the Democrat government Officials that are creating this problem first ?
@@sm3296 If they want a home, why don't they go find a job like the rest of us. Of course it will help if they put the crack pipe down, take a shower and put clean cloths on. All of this could be done with available free services that are already in place.
Makes a great cover photo for tourist brochures. "Come visit Seattle!"
The one individual saved the garbage can.
Some fires will be accidental for sure, but you cannot exclude the possibility of arson by people who want the camps to go away. The fire department will know whether the fires began with evidence of “accelerant” I.E. gasoline.
This is one of the reasons why I moved from Seattle to lacey. Its less people to b crazy.
I moved all the way to Tennessee. It amazes me to watch these videos and think I used to live in the middle of all that. I don't know how I put up with it all those years.
What a great city you have? I can't believe you let this stuff continue.
What to do about these fires?? Enforce vagrancy laws. Bring back prison work camps.
Bring back the Civilian Conservation Corps. Get public works projects done.
They say you are a dreamer, but you aren't the only one. As long as politicians profit from the problems that they create, it will continue.
And huge fines.
Nah! That’s common sense 🤷🏻♂️
You remember that you said that because greedflation is coming for you, too.
Are the fires a problem, or a solution?
@Earthquake1964 People have already died, notice how that was plural. Look into how many people die in homeless encampments each year. Nobody cares, if they did, they wouldn't have legalized drugs and enabled such a dangerous lifestyle that destroys the image, livability, and enjoyability of the city. Portland is on the same road to hell, just like SF and Seattle.
Back in the day "Hobos" were urged to move on and it never got this bad.
These people aren't hobos. They are bums and junkies, and hobos don't tolerate people like that.
I know exactly where that is, having attended the University of Washington years ago. So sad what Seattle tolerates. I moved out of there in 2020 after living there all my life.
Yeah, it's unfortunate for sure. It seems like people are getting more and more fed up, so hopefully we'll see some change coming soon...
Until the politicians of Seattle change, it will continue to happen. Seattle wants to show the rest of Washington and the US, how nice it it. How progressive it is. How well it treats all the people it has. In truth, Seattle is a cesspool. It takes care of the top 2% people first, then it caters to the loudest voices. Example, the top 2% listen to the loudest voices and cut the police department. Is still has not recovered from that. They gave special rights to the homeless and drug users, it just got worse. Now Seattle has a massive homeless and drug problem with not near enough police or holding cells in jails to deal with it. Before Seattle fixes these problems, it has already started several new crusades to show off how great they really are. Very sad. Just another reason why I have hated that city for the past 25+ years.
It's the city government. We keep voting in the same kind of people expecting them to do different things. Of course, it doesn't work like that.
They don't have this problem in homeless encampments in Japan. The homeless encampments in Japan are also clean, with little to no crime.
The fire was almost out by the time the firefighters stopped looking at it and put water on it😂
Yeah, they stared it down - it saves water 😂
This is why we can't have anything nice!
I hate to see this in the beautiful "Emerald City!!!!!!"
We have the same issue with homeless encampments in Edmonton Ab. Canada. People trying to stay warm and survive in the cold. Several occupants burned and had to be hospitalized. Also numerous ODs some of which were fatal. Large populations such as those found on cities and also some smaller towns have this problematic issue now. Inflation is stupid high rising prices and food insecurity are leading to people becoming more and more desperate and desperate people do desperate things.
Bullshit. They need to be locked up and people need to stop electing leftist politicians. This doesn't happen in areas that are conservative.
Desperate enough to hold down a job like the rest of us?
We just don’t have enough people here looking for work yet.!
I f you really sit down and think about it. This type of lifestyle is really not all that new. People always moved to other places and most tried to make a go of it. But there is a lot more government “help “ now and a lot more people who have decided just to live that way. And then throw in drugs alcohol and more and more people and money to try and help them get by. And you have more influential people and politicians that just know that we haven’t found the right program yet. But with another tax increase and reparations, social welfare health care etc… everything will be alright. And the ones who steal and assault and vandalize. Have just fell through the cracks of a hateful racist society. Yeah that’s the reason that there are no white homeless . And only black and brown people can be homeless. There’s just no hope anymore. And living through the depression and recessions that have hit this country. Why just in the last two years we hired a guy to help. And he let millions of more needy people in . Decided that cutting a couple of million jobs in the oil industry and all that is related to it. Take 1/3 of Avery necessary product off the market and expect that the price will go down. And when it does go down it ‘s because of the release of what we have saved for emergency use! Gee! More on the market the price goes down. You would have thought that some one in the administration would have taken a high school economics class. To say nothing of the money spent on companies to develop a product that people really don’t want.
@@railcord6969 I am not saying anything other than these homeless encampment are problematic because of the unsafe conditions therein.
@@davidlenzi3551 Yet campgrounds have far less issues, funny that.
Arson is a crime. Arrest these people.
The prevailing government believes these people have been oppressed and should be allowed to commit crimes without any prosecution! Society deserves it because it allowed these people to be oppressed in the first place.
I personally have seen two fires over there. Back in 2021, each on different sides of the overpass.
Interesting - I guess it's not a recent problem then...
I do hope all these good law abiding citizens have renters insurance.
mostly peaceful
@@PlayingWithFireOutdoors but fiery
How would you report this? "Several homeless people were left . . .pretty much the same way . . ."
*laughs in fire cleanses all
Nice footage!
Thank you!
Another great video! I wonder if the number of encampment fires will go down as the weather gets warmer?
Thank you! I'm not sure if they'll go down, or get worse as the grass and brush dries. I guess it depends whether these are warming fires, cooking fires, fun/drug fires and/or revenge fires...
most of those fires are set by other people.
The firebug is likely a homeless camp problem resolver.
Give out smoke detectors with the free needles and drugs.
😂😂😂😂 excellent
Thoughts of a Canadian: I would suspect some of those homeless would have the ability to work? Or is it they don't? Mental health & addiction plays a big factor.
Does the state have programs to get people housing, sober & job training skills?
There are problems here, too, especially big cities like Vancouver; Montreal & Toronto, to a lesser degree. Our social safety net is different, as well.
The fires are a drain on societal funds. Even though we don't see it, the cost of homeless people is actually quite high as a burden on public services, both for fire, police, and EMS.
When I lived in Silicon Valley, it was calculated by the county that the tax burden was $65k per homeless person per year. So, they started building tiny home communities for them, in order to save that money.
Giving people a safe place to live even if it's small, is better for them and society, even if the food, shelter, facilities, are all paid-for by the local government.
Yeah, I'm not sure why we don't have more tiny homes - the 12 billion (!) dollar budget put out by the county didn't even include funding for new tiny homes. It makes me wonder if the people in charge actually want things to get better...
Bumfights 2023: The Flame Wars
😂😂😂😂😂
If they were just to enforce laws
Just imagine how much your taxes would be if they imprisoned every single homeless person, the prison would be half the size of your state, and eventually you would be there to for failure to pay those taxes.
As bad as the weather often is in Seattle, I can't imagine anyone choosing to live on the streets there. I would be heading for Southern California as quickly as possible, hobo on a train or on foot if I had to. But, I have worked all my life and worked hard. Nobody lives on the street here, at least not in Winter. They would freeze after the first week of below zero weather and it stays that way for a couple of months.
I've seen them live alongside the interstate in Denver in the winter, so don't tell me that they wouldn't, they will setup about anywhere they can get away with it.
Fentanyl deadens the senses.
If I was going to be a bum, I'd be a bum in Arizona.
For just a tent it seemed to be burning kinda hot. 🤣
I have been to at least 3 Encampment fire 1 major Encampment fire & 2 small fires but i bet this "fighting Season" Summer it going be more
I'm worried for the summer too, once we get all the dry brush / plants. Hopefully they'll have some of these camps cleared by then.
@@SeattleTrafficCams yeah i do believe this "Fighting Season" we are going be more Busy with Bushs fires & WildLand fire too
@@petewilliamsiv3512 can you tell how any were caused? This video looked like arson.
I haven't been to Seattle in 5 years and ten years before that it was bad....ALL ALONG THE FREEWAYS... STRETCHING MILES
There are times when I have mixed emotions about these "Homeless People." The point is, (1) many are homeless by their own choice of not wanting to be a part of society (2) many are homeless because they are drug addicts or bad people hiding from Law Enforcement (3) many are homeless because they have been incarcerated in either a state or county prison as inmates and neither their family nor society wants anything more to do with them (4) then there are those very few who are homeless because of financial misfortunes by unavoidable circumstances, but the majority by badly chosen monetary greed made in their lives.
Albeit, in remembering that even in the smallest of communities there are places and/or agencies where a truly homeless person can go to get help, I must wonder, why is there any real need for a person to be homeless except for those who consistently made bad choices in their lives. As such, I have an extremely hard time feeling compassion for 99% of those who are suffering in a homeless environment. As such, I can understand and even to some extent agree with why no community wants homeless camps to become established in their community.
Years ago I met a man who was homeless. Talking with him, I learned that he had walked away from disability benefits that were more than twice what I was making working a full time job because they had too many rules. He also wouldn't stay in a shelter because they closed the doors at 10 pm. I decided that the homeless aren't my problem any more.
Same issues here in Vancouver, 🇨🇦. Recently, we have seen a dramatic increase in fires. Have empathy, not all homeless are bad. They are just in a bad situation.
You mean the situation they voted for? C`mon on.
Yeah. Once it got cold this year. I had hoped that once it got warmer, we would see less of this stuff.
From what you are saying, looks like no dice.
Yeah, we can still cross our fingers but I don't know how hopeful I am. Thanks for watching!
you have the uncut video ?
There goes DA HOOD!
If you build it they will come
Awesome background music!
The hate crime isn't only limited to ethnic, race, nationality, creed or religious reason, even gender and socio-economic also can into the category.
Homeless burning each other out over disputes.
Love is stronger than hate.!!
2.3 a day...I wonder if they figured out why they got soo many......cause the only thing I see it being the reason...territorial attacks from the original older homeless towards the newly homeless. But then again, they could all be old homeless, but still, territorial dispute.
seems some homeless gangs putting fire to each other.
Yep, that encampment has had some trouble
Yeah, I wonder if it's a firebug living there, or just camping nearby.
This took out and entire interstate system in Atlanta a few years ago… cost almost a half billion dollars.
Can you only think in dollars??? You don't know a solution? Disgusting and arrogant city-council. Create a big home for those homeless people and feed them and give them enough money.
the problem is homelessness..... and no rich pricks or other communities care
I feel like i just went thru national geographic documentary with this music lol
😂 I'll need to get a kindly old man with a British accent to narrate my next one...
These encampments are clearly a danger to public health and safety of everyone. They are a hazard to the people who live and work in the area, a hazard to traffic, and a hazard to people in the camps. The solution is to clean them out and set up well regulated shelters in safe locations.
Many homeless morons are to dunk or drugged out to be allowed in a shelter. Give them 3 hots and a cot in prison!
no bills , , no rent or mortgage power or water bill, nope just living on someone elses land ,
That’s one way to get them out.
I like that way
Why not build an expressway to house the homeless underneath? Fireproof. Fence it in and put guards outside. Oh, wait! That’s prison!
As long as the homeless pay for it all. I pain for my house and they can do the same.
i think you have a serial arsoniat
Someone`s dropping hints.
All these people say that they care about the problem But no one stoped too see if anyone was hurt.
Due to lack of LOVE for other people.
The whole city would explode if that ever happened again I hope it doesn't
They are dealing with pyromaniac's, they get turned on to fire and the fire trucks fighting fires! They are always nearby witnessing what they created!
That was nifty. :)
Does Washington pay the homeless like California?
Firefighters in the United States are very very slow when they arrive at a fire!! they take a long time to get the hoses out and put out the fires compared to firefighters in Europe who are much faster and more direct.
Completely true, they need training, a lot, and not McDonalds food, bad for yr health as you can see.
At 3:50 did I see a bus that is powered by overhead catenary, like a trolley?🤔
You did! We have quite a few "trolley busses" in Seattle.
Hope they had insurance. They lost everything they worked so hard for. Hope they can rebuild Seattle would never be the same without them. Maybe we should start a go fund me.
No, the encampments are not the problem, the problem is a greedy and heartless government and an equally greedy and selfish element of society that doesn't give a toss about its people!
The homeless industry is too big to fail now. Enjoy this and more.
Everywhere there are these encampments they get fires. Drug addled and mentally ill people cannot be allowed to live like this. Mental institutions need to have resident care and the drug addled need jail. Jail is not a bad thing, it's sometimes the only way they get sober and treatment. Brilliant folks who thought we needed to allow them to set up encampments on the public commons don't have to live with the fruit of their so called compassion.
It's as if that "community" is trying to eliminate itself. That's not entirely a bad thing, really.
Seems like a good outcome..
Arson at it's fullest.
We have a homeless problem here in the UK, I work at a food bank on a Saturday feeding homeless and people who cannot make ends meet. Some I find have mental issues and cannot cope, I suspect you will find that quite a few of these people have the same issues (alcohol and drugs). 😪😪😪😪
Alcohol and Drugs are a choice.
I feel bad but there's got to be something better to do with the homeless
You don't know a solution? Disgusting and arrogant city-council. Create a big home for those homeless people and feed them and give them enough money.
DONT ALLOW THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they won't leave then burn them out ?
makes you wonder is one person setting them? arson??
Stores need to lock up their propane and their MAPP gas
Sounds to me like one or more serial arsonists to me!!!! It definitely bears investigating!!!
I've gone to over twenty five in two years. There are times when you'll have two or three in one week.
The biggest problem is the fact that these encampments exist!!!
Yes, for a long time. And growing.
Ask yr city-council why.
"its unclear what the solution is" How about affordable housing?
That would be a start for sure!
Explosion???? Where , when.
Clean everthing out and just behave yourself.
Smokey the Bear says only you can prevent homeless fires
Here's a thought, how about making it against the law to camp in the city! duh
Arson investigation
You should show your love (if you still have) for homeless people. That's the duty of the community for these people.
Looked like the dude that took off with the bike might have started the propane fire. Even though it looks like trash to most people, that is all they have in this world. Whether they caused it or not it’s a hard life😢🙏🙏🙏
Oh, what a shame. How will we ever recover from such tragedy. Please stop these senseless fires, I can hardly sleep at night knowing these refuges of American imperialism are under threat....said no one with half a brain cell.
This comment section does not pass the vibe check.
Welcome to California
It's so nice that so many people want to incarcerate them or put them in work camps to punish them for being homeless and then have no help for when they are released so they can be punished some more. This must be "Christianity" at its best.
How many of these people have you invited into your home? Or are you just anothe "Progressive" hypocrite?
@@SoloPilot6 A little caveat here, I'm not the wealthiest of people but I have done what I could for people, from something as simple as giving someone a home cooked meal to as far as giving a family significant financial help for months until they were able to get back on their feet and a multitude of people in-between. Not that I have to justify myself to anybody, neither am I asking for a pat on the back or a well done, I'm not but you did ask.
its very simple to stop the problem. stop be a safe place for the homeless and pass laws that don't encourage the to stay
The reason for a lot of homeless people. Drugs, drugs, drugs.
Used to be a great town - third world country now! Whatever the city government is doing isn't quite working.
The worst thing about watching this is that NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE had any decency to stop and use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.
Of course Michael....everyone carries a fire extinguisher with them or in their car. /s
How many fire extinguishers are you expecting people to keep in their cars? Why is it now their problem that human filth victimize each other like that? They don't care anyway, if they did they wouldn't elect the morons that enabled this. Seattle is getting exactly what it voted for.
I have a simple solution - put those criminals who keep making fires in prison!
You should show your love (if you still have) for homeless people. That's the duty of the community for these people.
someone up set with those who are ?? unhoused and as it is said marginalized ,
I really feel for these people. It’s unfortunate that they lose their “second” home to a fire or they lose some prized items they had. There isn’t a voice for these people and often are left to fend for themselves. I hope things get better for the homeless in this city. It will probably get worse before it gets better.
Yeah, it's tough because it seems like there are definitely a few kinds of people on the streets. There are absolutely people that need our help, but there are also a ton of people who use the camps to sell drugs, run chop shops and prey on other homeless people.
It seems like if we had more/better shelter options, we could house the folks that need it and jail the people committing the crimes. That seems like it's still a long ways off though.
The people in the camps are typically people who got kicked out of the various rehab programs. There are resource, but if somebody refuses to follow the rules - they can't be helped.
Hitler had a solution for mentally impaired people, but no one wants to suggest anything that might help the people into a better life for fear of being called a Nazi by woke idiots.
This is an example of the consequences of the "Freedom" they espouse so "Religiously". 😇
Has nothing to do with Religion. In yr country i saw that the police is arresting people who are preaching on the streets. Awful, shameful, is this America. Thats why God gives yr country so much hurricanes, tornado's, heavy hailstones, earthquackes, heavy rain, terrible lightning, floods, rock- and landslides, and still you do not repent to Jesus. You get what your country deserves.
