Tony Joe is so good at what he does. He and Ry Cooder are the only two players I know that keep that backbeat rhythm going all the time while picking at the same time. They have different beat and style, but they play it all. Tony Joe has his beat that is unmistakably his. No matter where you are or what song, the first few notes and it's recognized as his. He didn't have sustained commercial success because he was so unique..but he damn sure had, and has, sustained Respect. One monster musician. I am playing that again. Peace...
