Real musicians making real honest unadulterated music. Nobody white did swamp music better. So many weak talents are successful but just few of us stateside were fans. First heard him when I was 15 or 16? Such a recognizable sound.
He was very successful in his music. Nobody can match his style and live performances. He was just the best. Simple tunes and played with plenty of soul and feeling for what he did best. I saw him live and felt very privileged to have enjoyed his performance.
I was sitting in a graveyard late one night, I Didn't know why. Had an old guitar and a bottle of wine Fingernail moon hanging in the sky. Kudzu grow. I had a little song going through my head then I started to cry burden laying heavy on my heart Too much on my mind I was staring out at the shadows When a tall woman appeared I heard a whisper "we know why you're here" All around her, they were gathered. Then the guitar was in my hand everybody's singing with their souls I can see the release on all their faces but they knew it was time to go. They left me there In the cold gray dawn I felt like a man walking in his sleep made it back to my car But now I had a shotgun rider She said: "I ain't going far" I hope you remember what you've seen here... for as long as you live. I'm gonna have to leave you now but you got something to give.
... it’s was sadden to hear the passing of the guy who influenced Elvis. And while I’m standing here doing dishes listening? I can’t wait to go out front, amplify this to the world, and playing along with my Bass.... it’s the only pure gesture of appreciation? Play it openly to the world while playing along, and playing it loud....I hope the Fiesta across the street don’t mind ....
Tony was among a few other of my idols who showed me how good playing without a pick was.. switched over about 30 years ago and never went back... thanks to TJW and a few others :)
I ve seen him in a little french village called Lamanon during a tour in four capital towns ( why Lamanon ? ) and he with his drummer were marvelous even when a horse came to listen near the stage 🙂 A very good souvenir Thank you Tony
TJW still can hit it out of the park--I'm talking in particular about the album this song is from. It's kind of dark and rich, with a really neat tonal balance. And not a bad cut on it, rare in this era of one-hit wonders. Tony's the real deal, all the way back to the 70s. Check the man out.
What a unique sound man hes good. I've always kinda put TJW and Billy Joe Shaver on the same type of hill. Both bad ass and can play and write a good song.
Yep,that's how it's done one drummer, one guitarist and poetry.
this man forever will be the blues.
love you Tony Joe white
His music changed the way I approached my guitar...forever. Thank you for sharing your gift to the world. RIP Tony
He put the hot sauce on it.

Never understood why he wasn't more successful! If you're from down here that sounds like LIFE. Bless his heart.

Cigs claim another great one 15 years before his time, ,,, Jerry Jeff...

I'd love to think that that Strat and the pink one are exhibits in a museum somewhere. Anyone know what happened to them?
There was a TJW ‘58 Strat at Carter Vintage Guitars that was supposedly given to him by Waylon, but it wasn’t the guitar in this video.
Dank u wel
