I have been running a Quantum pump for over a year on my SV1000S with good results. I used stainless steel safety wire to secure the sock "filter" retainer. They get distorted with age and most likely ethanol blended fuels. I use non-ethanol whenever I can (in everything I own!). Edit: If I have to reuse an o-ring I massage it with dialectric grease (silicone, like for lightbulbs) and have had great luck.
Couldn't sleep woke up in the middle of the night and I was thinking how frustrating it can be to work on anything with a motor . Funny story, my son said the only thing I've ever taught him was to go down at the End of the Street in find the tool that I threw . It's hard for me to work on anything I don't have a garage or even a driveway so everything has to be done on the sidewalk when I do anything to my bikes. But all we can do is Soldier on.
If you take the tank off again it would be a great tip to mention to check the rubber grommets that the tank slides into up front to make sure they’re secure. Had one fall out before a trip once. Keep up the great work!
Another thing you might check is the gas cap. There is a tiny hole that allows it to breathe. When it gets clogged, it can cause vapor locking and can cause some studdering
Good to see another man of fine taste. Guiness is a great beer and it's definitely superior out of a bottle vs a can! Stoked you're making some progress with the trusty steed.
Nicely done! Can't wait to hear it fire up again! Does it have a way to purge the air out of the fuel lines? A car I owned had a Schrader valve on the fuel rail, but it was a returnless setup, so maybe it'll just work here.
Those host clamps were to replace the clips on the hoses. Probably just an extra add from the company that makes the filter. Clamps will take a lot more abuse before they come off, but I have never seen the stock ones come off either. :) Cold and the battery do not mix. Can’t wait to see you run it
So, Brandon, I'm figuring out which years the 109R came in black; 2006, 2011, and 2016. That's what I think anyway. I really like the black/chrome look of those early modles. I'm actively looking for an M109R right now in black for sale. They're few and far between in Northern Utah. I guess people hang on to them they're such a nice bike. Can I ask again, in your opinion, which years I should be cautious about buying? That 2nd gear fail you experienced on the one bike you bought scares me.
@@BrandonBicasso Hey, thank you for the quick reply. That information will come in handy looking for a 109r. You convinced me what a good machine it is. Hope I can find one. I'm an old, 75 y.o., ex-Harley rider but these 109's seem amazing. Thanks partner.
Did the bike ever start correctly. I'm having any issues with my fuel system. Just checking to make sure it all worked out. I've done the strainer...not the pump yet. Got some bad gas and bike hasn't really started since. I'm furious. I miss my baby. Cheers to the GUINNESS
@@BrandonBicasso gotcha. Yeah, siphoned and dumped tank…checked filter…looked good (since it’s literally brand new). Fuel pump primes nicely. Battery super weak. Gonna have to replace. 😒😒😒. Thanks my guy! Love the vids. Been wanting a 9 since 08. Picked her up in 18. Love it!!!! Bad gas got me feeling a type of way.
so did it work? My 2007 is having the same issue. I had the spark plugs replaced and changed the air filters. now its still chuggin in 5th gear. it should be darting off and it kinda is but then its really not. if that makes sense XD
My bike is not priming. I know I don't need a fuel pump. There's no power to the fuel pump. I can't figure it out. I've been through the whole bike thoroughly. I had a motorcycle mechanic look at it for 3 hours, and he couldn't figure it out. It seems like a simple thing to solve, but it is not. Tip over is new. I tried a different ecm. The only thing not replaced is the kickstand switch. I even tried a different ignition switch. I don't have the Fl light. The pump works when you hard wire power to it, but there's no power going through the yellow wire with red stripe, and I'm pretty sure it isn't the relay. It turns over, but something is stopping power from getting to the fuel pump. All of my fuses are good.
Try checking your crank sensor. I'd have to check the wiring diagrams for the 109 but on Indians for instance.. the crank sensor went out and it prevented the fuel pump from priming. If the ECM doesn't know what location the crank is in, it won't allow the fuel pump to prime and send fuel. Worth a look.
Real men drink Irish Whiskey not beer... Just saying. I recommend Knappogue Castle if you can find it and it's only acceptable to drink it in shot form. Mixing it will get you sent to the "special hell". Avoid Jameson, yuck. Green Spot or Tyrconnell is acceptable if you can't get Knappogue Castle. If you drink enough of them your repairs will go MUCH faster 😁. The repairs to your repairs might take a lot longer though.
@@ralphaelconfer9719 dunno. Depends on your goal with the bike. They’re different. Ones more suited for long distance and the other for mobbing the streets. I’d go M109R but I’m biased with 9 years.

Truth. I’m very fortunate for this garage. If I didn’t have it, all my jobs would have to be done a lot faster.
Getting closer every day. Keep at it man.

What do you think of that windscreen? Is it helpful?
@@soulgivesoul07 yes, it’s helpful. Takes the wind off my head and gives me about 10mph more comfortable cruising on the highway.

heat pure heat my guy .I hope that fixes the problem
Would you dare to try Kawasaki VN 2000?? Have you ever? It would be interesting to see your opinion on that beast. Cheers from Slovakia!!
I’d ride a hotdog if it had wheels.

I tried one of those pumps on my victory kingpin, but it would only build up 29lbs of pressure, so it doesn't work on mine. But good luck on yours.
If you think that was tough, try doing it on a 1st gen Ducati Multistrada!...good job though👍
Ok love the sork your doing on your m109r. Im changing my fuel pump out this weekend. Did it fix your problem?
Yep. Might not fix yours unless you’ve checked other components first.

Also, check your battery grounds and tuner if you have one.

So far no issues!
Brandon, have you rode the 2022 Indian scout rogue yet?
I have not. I've been told they won't go out until April. I wouldn't be surprised if it's on a demo truck somewhere, though.
I could do that--drinking the Guinness, afterwards the rest would be a crapshoot!
