    As someone who hunts with hounds it’s very hard to try to explain this to people that have only had dogs as pets

      It is true. They love it and Lance takes such good care of his dogs. You can see in many videos how much his dogs trust and love him and the sport and you can see how much Lance loves and trusts his dogs as well.

      I am from greenland so i can relate to Lance... he knows his stuff... even if i am not a professional dog sled racer. I meet snowflakes in the wild contrary to the Liberal human attention whores you people are forced to live amoungst.... but my tip is. The best way to remove a snowflake is to melt it. turn it into it's base component. and that is H2O. What i am trying to say Remove what makes them special and teach them humility. "Part of the Sheeple" they claim other people are. force them into that level. they'll learn quick not to act superior

  • @575forza
    @575forza 7 лет назад +48

    He's right. A pet sheep dog will herd the kids if they dont have anything to herd.

    • @doggodoggo3000
      @doggodoggo3000 4 года назад

      And they are overbreeding them and culling them when the aren't useful. They like pulling a sled and running. yea. But theres alot wrong with dog racing.

    • @noominiacal
      @noominiacal 3 года назад +3

      Yep, my first border collie always tried to herd my 4 brother and I when we were kids. We'd actually humour him sometimes. We'd try to scatter and we'd let him guide us all back together. He demonstrated the highest level of intelligence in an animal I've ever seen. You could see in his eyes he was thinking and solving problems. I've had 2 border collies since but they're nowhere near as intelligent.. they are/were very smart but not smart like a 5yo kid level smart.

    All dogs have a instinct to do their job- my lab catches wild rabbits and ducks for me, he has never killed them only grabs them for me. His instinct is so strong he’s broken his leg trying to get my rabbit

      They like it. But racing promotes overbreeding, culling, it displaces alot of dogs and its super ugly. Mushing is great. Dog racing is another thing entirely. Its bad for all the same reasons greyhound racing is. And greyhound racing was just banned in florida and is illegal in 41 states.

      Plus its a modern invention. The first iditarod was in 1973 and these dogs are running faster and farther than ever, what are we actually judging? Where is this headed? there alot of variable besides just the ability of the driver and the ability of the dogs.
      The margins to win is some races in seconds or minutes. You could, and people DO, lose a race because their dog fell while pooping and running. And people "train them" to poop and run. That just means not slowing down for them and freaking dragging them by their neck until the poop comes out or he falls. Some of these races are at around 20mph. Dragging a shitting dog by its neck at 20 miles per hour is something that has only started happening in the past 40 years or so, historically these dogs never ran that fast. "mush" means "walk". What people justify to make up those seconds and minutes gets GRIM. Trust me. I work in racing.
      Racing has turned mushing into something completely different than it was back in the day.
      Inuit mushers usually have 10-20 dogs. Iditarod kennels start at around 40. Some mushers have well over a hundred. That wasn't even possible 100 years ago. 100 years ago people still made chains by freaking hand. And these chains wear out. A dog will go through two or three in their life most likely. Cant tether 100 freaking dogs with rope. good freaking luck.
      Lance mackey is cool. But all these mushers sort have a bad habit. They don't have to be evil. They are wrapped up in something cool and doing stuff the way its always been done. We can get rid of racing with out it demonizing any one or taking away anyones way of life. Racing doesn't make up the entire world of mushing. It just currently dominates it.

    I was hoping he would ask them about the 150 or so dogs that have died doing what they love. Not saying Lance is killing the dogs but some of them are and it should be addressed just like horse racing. Sometimes you need to know when enough is enough and its time to call it a day. Dogs really can't do that.
