I saw Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends four times in London, and in 2025 it is coming to the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles (Feb. 8 to March 9) with Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga. Then it moves to Broadway with those two stars starting March 29 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater. I hope they bring along some of the great British company.
Seeing Old Friends was honestly the most incredible experience!🎉 I have never experienced anything like it, and probably never will again. It was pure magic.
I was lucky to see this a few months ago... two major theater stars, and a British cast of amazingly talented people. Sorry to say, this may not happen again.
I really enjoyed seeing Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends at the Gielgud Theatre in London on Wednesday 27th September 2023 and it was absolutely fantastic
This was the best production I've seen in years! I arrived anticipating great things from well established stars who I love, performing the genius of Sondheim, and wasn't disappointed. I left with a list of new (to me) young talents who were absolutely on a level with those stars, and who I intend to seek out in future productions as their careers will surely go from strength to strength.
Sondheim wasn't always so lionized or exalted as he is now in the UK. The West End transfer of Sweeney Todd in 1981 closed early and there was disapproval that another show from the colonies about Albion could be written by them after the success of My Fair Lady.
