    I'm an American who last year rented a car, stayed in Porthmadog, and visited as many trains in Wales as I could, including the Talyllyn. Your roads are so narrow, hilly, and winding it's a miracle I hit nothing! I imagine the coach delivery from Porthmadog to Tywyn must've been extremely white-knuckled!

      @@Nurwin1 Still? We announced and started building our new gauge back in November, and to be fair, no one on the teams were the ones doing the arguing. Also with the 150th event we held with the Glyn Ceiriog museum, things have never been better. On wards and upwards!
      In terms of time for a Talyllyn visit, well, we're part of the 2' 3' community now, and want to grow a good relationship with them, and Corris. We also have a bigger more established team now, so I'm sure a couple of us can find the time to make a visit to our friends at both railways every now and then.
      Thanks! And well done again to Talyllyn for their new coach!

      How? Wharf can't extend westwards because of the Cambrian Coast line, and can't extend eastwards because of the road going over the line. I imagine Dolgoch Falls station would be extremely costly to extend westwards because of the gorge and probably no room eastwards either. Abergynolwyn station can hold 2 trains anyway.

    I agree with all the positive comments, but why did everyone stand so close and underneath the coach when it was being lifted and no guy ropes used. Also it was picked up with four 2 tonne slings that were chocked (-20% working load) and twisted... sorry to be a downer but at least when it was unloaded everyone was made to stand well back.. looks great though...

    person 1 : first new coach in 50+ years with the last one being coach 23 in 1975
    person 2 : this is the first complete brand new carriage to be delivered to the railway we believe in 156 years
    in not knowing the history, does that mean coach 23 was actually Not new or Not completely new and just made by cannibalizing parts from already existing coaches?
    i'm confused

    • @TalyllynRailway1865
      @TalyllynRailway1865  Год назад +2

      Since 1951 we've built a lot of coaches ourselves in our own workshops, Coach 23 being a joint effort - a company called Tisdales built the wooden body, and our workshops built the underframes. Once together, it was painted by our volunteers.
      Coach 24 however is the first completed "ready to run" coach delivered to the Railway since 1867.

    • @adamtebbs8783
      @adamtebbs8783 Год назад +1

      So coaches 1-5 were delivered as complete vehicles brand new to the railway in the mid 1860s, 6 was delivered complete, but second hand in the early 1950s, all the other coaches were either:
      i) second hand and modified; or
      ii) new, but only partially complete (e.g. most of the bogies coaches, which were delivered as new frames, but Pendre works built the body), or
      iii) in the case of some of the open carriages and 7 (I think) built completely from scratch by Pendre.
      24 is therefore the first carriage since 1-5 to arrive that is both complete and new. 23 (built in the mid 1970s) was the last new coach, but it was one of the ones where Pendre built the body, so it didn't arrive as a complete vehicle

      @TalyllynRailway1865  Год назад

      As said at the end of the video, our new coach 24 is the first "ready to run" coach delivered to the railway in 156 years!
      However we have had other new coaches built for the railway in that time, but we have always built or finished them in our own workshops, such as coach 23 which entered service 47 years ago. So both year margins are factual and both are very notable milestones in the railway's history!

    But all the bogies coaches were built in the 1960's and 70's ??? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Talyllyn_Railway_rolling_stock so where does the 156 years come from ?

    • @TalyllynRailway1865
      @TalyllynRailway1865  Год назад

      Coach 24 is the first to arrive at the Railway "Ready to Run" since Coaches 1 & 2 in 1867!
      All of the coaches since the 1950s have arrived part-built or have been completely built in our own workshops, so while we have had new coaches - this is the first completed new coach in 156 years.

    • @rickhead

      An odd (and very misleading) definition of new then ! Perhaps 'first bought in' coach would be more accurate and informative. @@TalyllynRailway1865
