Still the Beaver 1983 CBS TV movie, original cast (revised)

- Revised and higher quality version of the original 1983 CBS TV reunion movie that I first posted here on my RUclips channel in November 2018.
Twenty years after we last saw the Cleaver family in Leave it to Beaver, we revisit them in this CBS TV movie first broadcast March 19, 1983. This was a precursor to what became a revival TV series also called Still the Beaver starting in November 1984 on The Disney Channel that ran for four seasons through June 1989, the last three on WTBS under the name The New Leave it to Beaver.
In this initial TV movie, Beaver (Jerry Mathers) is grown and has two boys of his own but his wife is divorcing him, so he moves back in with his mother June (Barbara Billingsley) at 211 Pine Street in Mayfield (Ward has died about six years earlier). Wally (Tony Dow) is a lawyer married to his high school sweetheart Mary Ellen Rogers (new actress Janice Kent) and they are trying to have children. Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond) is back and is the same personality as ever, running a shyster construction company, and he has a son (Eddie Jr. - he later was renamed Freddie in the series) who is a chip off the old block (his real-life son Eric Osmond). Friends Lumpy (Frank Bank) and his father Mr. Rutherford (Richard Deacon), Larry (Rusty Stevens), Richard (Richard Correll), and Tooey (Lucas "Luke" Fafara II, aka Tiger) are still around, as is Miss Canfield (Diane Brewster), now principle of the school of the Cleaver grandchildren.
The presentation here is commercial-free due to the ads being edited out from my original Betamax recording of 37 years ago.
Copyright restrictions on RUclips also required shortening some of many clips in this movie from the original Leave it to Beaver series, but every clip from the original series shown by CBS in this movie is still represented here.
Of course, this Still the Beaver movie doesn't offer all the 1950s-era innocent charm of the original but it is filled with touching and fun remembrances, including numerous clips of the classic black-and-white series, especially with father Ward Cleaver (Hugh Beaumont died the year before this movie was made and had been ill for several years prior to that). And there are numerous sweet and nostalgic references to the first series.
Corey Feldman and John Snee play Beaver's sons Corey and Oliver, respectively (Corey was replaced by actor Kipp Marcus as Beaver's oldest son Kip when it went to the series). Eddie and his son (who was renamed Freddie for the series) are two highlights of this movie and the series. Ed Begley Jr. re-creates Whitey, and Joanna Gleason plays Beaver's wife Kimberly (she was replaced by Jeannie Wilson to play Kimberly in the final episode of the series six years later in 1989). When the series started, there were a several cast changes, including a replacement to play Mr. Rutherford in the first couple of episodes since Richard Deacon died. Kaleena Kiff was also added to the cast as Kelly, the daughter of Wally and Mary Ellen.
Beaver walking into his old house along with the voice over of Hugh Beaumont is beautiful. ❤️💔🥰
Tears welling up😥
Made me #PuddleUp.
Right?!?! Talk about tear jerker!
R.I.P. Tony Dow, Barbara Billingsley, and Hugh Beaumont! Thanks for the laughs and the life lessons!

I am 12 minutes into the movie and can't stop crying... The old clips and music make me think of home and family.
im glad im not the only emotional one
That's crazy! This movie was released the year I was born, but the show was long before my time. Yet it has me very emotional as well. Likely because the original series was a favorite of my late father. Every time I watch the re-runs, it brings memories of my pop.
I thought it was just me crying. 😢Seeing some of the old footage,
and then seeing everyone grown here in the movie, with families of their own... hard not to be touched by that.
It just tells me how much we adored these people from the original TV series. ❤
Boy, that was a time to remember, wasn't it? Love and miss the 80s😢
Since I watched this last, my priorities changed - at 66 I had kidney and respiratory failure, and spent a month away from home and my wife - I faced my own mortality and can no longer put off thinking about death and how none of us get out of this world alive. Make sure when you leave your mortal life and enter eternity, that you do it with Jesus as your savior.
Amen!
Best comment ever!
So true.
THANKS👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽
People might complain that this doesn't belong here but once a while we need to be reminded.
Amen
True!
It doesn’t belong here. And a mortal man who died approximately 2000 years ago?
Thanks for all the good memories, Tony. Guys like you only come around, once in a lifetime! (April 13, 1945 - July 27, 2022)
The news of Tony Dow's passing brought me here. I was born the year this movie was released, but this is the first time I'm seeing it. I'm a fan of the original TV series, as it brings fond memories of my father. Miss you pop!
R.I.P.

It was exactly 40 years ago today this movie first aired. Happy Anniversary.
Lord have mercy 10 minutes into the movie and I'm already tearing up. RIP WARD
Yeah that kinda got to me as well. For some reason I thought about my mom who I lost in 2021.
died of a heart attack in Germany visiting his son.
Those flashback clips integrating with their present dilemma in order to solve their problems was so emotional and done well. There is a satisfaction in knowing what we, as the viewers, have seen in the origins of the show come to a full circle 20 years later when this movie was made, as the boys have now taken on the wisdom of their father being grown men themselves. I like that kind of arch in a story's characters, especially for just a sitcom. I'm glad they decided to do this years later because it meant Ward's lessons were not in vain. And that we get to see the torch being passed on.
Hugh Beaumont was my favorite TV father. I wish my own father had been more like him.
I still watch the original everyday..and I always walk away having learned some type of valuable life lesson from Ward. I still view him as my father. Such a wonderfully understanding father character that I think ONLY Hugh Beaumont could have portrayed in that manner
Nothing wrong with your Daddy.
Cant forget michael landon. I love leave it to beaver as well, robert reed next, brady bunch
My Dad was like him and himself,, always had the right advice when we needed it! I Love and miss him so much! 🤎✝⛪
Yeah. Let’s not forget he was a TV character meant to embody the perfect father.
I like the flashbacks of Ward. nice tribute to Hugh Beaumont who had passed away the year before this reunion movie came out.
This movie was dedicated to the loving memory of Hugh Beaumont and I heard that in one of the TV series' episodes, his real-life sister made a guest appearance.
@@ekweseman , thanks for the info.
Was kind of sad see that Ward had passed away, I didn't see t that coming.
I used to wonder why they had Ward pass away in 1977 as opposed to closer to Hugh Beaumont's actual passing, say 1981 or even 82 when he died. Then I realized the family would still be grief stricken so soon after and the movie would have had too melancholy a feel. The narrative needed that 6 year gap to have allowed the family to move on.
@@ekweseman Hugh's sister guest stars in the thanksgiving episode in the first season of the series revival
Classic. RIP Barbara Billingsly, Ken Osmond, Frank Bank, Richard Deacon and Hugh Beaumont.
They were the best actors ever
Mikey:
This program and the movie are two forms of being classic.
In the program, "Leave it to Beaver" I remember being taught the same values as Wally and the Beaver.

RIP
Jerry Mathers supposedly was killed in Vietnam...
Barabara had a long life
They just don't make TV shows like that anymore. I hope that You can preserve it for many years to come.
As a very depressed woman of 21 years, I come from a divorced household and I just hate life so much that I often think of ending it all. The way our world is and the ugly politics of this country makes me sick. The only thing that keeps me going (for now) is tuning into stations like MeTV to see old shows like Beaver, Andy Griffith, My Three Sons, The Rifleman and others. The stuff on TV today should be criminal but sadly represents the times we live in. I truly wish I could have lived back in the 50's which seemed like such a peaceful time with good family values and love of God and country. Thank you for posting this movie Russell, I really enjoy this.
@@radhikapamula4380 I completely understand. The only thing that kept me going last year was revisiting old classic shows that I grew up. It's a comforting feeling to escape back to when life didn't always seem like shit. For my birthday last year I bought the complete series of the original Leave It To Beaver. My fiancé didn't grow up with all the old shows I did (unless he happened to catch them on Nick at Nite - whereas I saw them all as reruns before their shift to cable). But he knew what last year was doing to me and really supported my new addiction of classic TV. Also just got the complete series of Maude and The Jeffersons and have been watching lots of Three's Company (and downloading everything I can think of that will never be on DVD that I wish to revisit). I hope this year brings you some much needed comfort!
@@billwenham I bought the Leave it To Beaver complete series too and someone stole it off our porch before I got home. Is it worth buying again? I read some reviews on Amazon that said it is poor quality and has commercials. Not sure if that's true or not. I have close to 100 Beavers on my DVR but I know someday when it fails, I'll lose them all. I also was going to buy the complete series of either The Rifleman, Adam 12 or Walker Texas Ranger but they are extremely expensive. I do own the complete series of Andy Griffith (not the colored episodes though, YUCK) the complete Everybody Loves Raymond series and the complete Incredible Hulk series with Bill Bixby and also the first four seasons of Dallas with Jock Ewing on it. After he died, I didn't like the show as much. I hope you have a great year too! Oh and btw, I have Season 1 of Leave it to Beaver and I believe the first 2 seasons are the best. I'm a big Larry Mondelo fan and once he left the show I really didn't like Beaver's friends at all. Wally had the better friends, especially Eddie!
@@radhikapamula4380 Now I wish I had never gave away my VCR movie collection, I am almost jealous.
@@radhikapamula4380 It sounds like you were a victim of porch piracy.
RIP Tony Dow. Such a good actor. Been watching Leave it to Beaver for a couple of weeks now. Love it.
One of the best shows ever
This show is popular among people of all ages. My husband and I grew up watching it on television. I've shown it to my boys and they love it too.
Yes. I'm finding out also that people of all ages still love LITB.
I watch leave it to beaver every morning
Beaver remembering his father always hits hard.
Cute show.
Especially if you’ve lost your dad...I don’t blame beaver for having that reaction and reverting to a childish state to cope with it all.
The part where Beaver walks in the house and Ward says" Is that you beaver? Beaver was just reminiscing about all the memories he had in that house. It reminds me of my family how and how i think now that my mom and dad are gon. All we have is memories and we hold on to them, laugh and cry. What a great show Leave it to beaver is. I watch it daily. I even fall asleep to it😊
In my lifetime I have got to see Jerry Mathers twice, I hope I can get to see him again someday. He's a great actor, I grew up watching Leave It To Beaver
Lucky you!
Good movie…Typical 1987 all around with twist.Good to see alot of the actors in this.
Who’s still watching The Beaver in 2024?!!🎉
It aired in 1983.
I was born after this series in '88 Dec and I love LITB! My older brother (b. 1973) said episodes used to air often late at night or on USA network, etc.
Barbara Billingsley looked amazing and was sharp as a tack for being almost 70 in the movie.
Thank you so much for uploading this movie! I never saw it when it came out and I actually just found out that it was made tonight! What an excellent movie! They did a nice job keeping to the original theme and showing what a family should be!!! I wish life was still as simple and pure as life with the Beaver was!
You're very welcome!
I wonder how many of you know that Ken Osmond, the actor that plays Eddie, became a Los Angeles police officer after being unable to find any rolls after being typecast as Eddie Haskell.
Anyways he was shot in the line of duty three times by an escaping suspect: two went into his bulletproof vest and one went around the vest where there wasn't any protection but he survived.
I had no idea, I just learned this a month ago and blew my mind!
When Ken Osmond passed away, Jerry Mathers made a beautiful statement in honor of him. He described Ken as the best actor on the show, because in real life, he was nothing like Eddie Haskell.
A story about him was aired on the old TV show emergency 911 telling about how he got shot!
I met him along with Frank Bank about 15 years ago. They were both very nice guys and never gave me the business.
@@Jeff98177 good one, Jeff.....did Eddie say to you "Hey, Sam, you're a squirt!"
@@essessessesq Maybe :-) In the picture of the three of us, he had his hand draped on my shoulder like he would do with Wally sometimes.
I watched the New Leave it to Beaver as a kid. Then my mom was like it was a show when I was a kid and showed me the original. Been watching them for over 30 years now. June always reminds me of my mom...Sweet but firm at the same time
Rest Peacefully Hugh. Barbara... Ken.. We're still watching.
The Beaver still squints his eyes while delivering his script for drama effect. The only actor I can recall that does that. His idiosyncrasy works well for him.
I was babysitting the night this was broadcast and made the kids watch this with me. It was a little embarrassing because I actually began crying at the scene at Ward Cleaver’s gravesite. I was caught by surprise at how deeply the loss of Hugh Beaumont and the place he held within the program affected me.
Yeah, me too.
Honestly here, Beaver is a tragic character. He’s grieving the loss of his beloved dad and that is causing him to revert to his old behavior that he had as a kid. Breaks my heart honestly.
I can relate 😔
Agreed. Honestly I don't find this movie funny. Poor Beaver.
I miss network movies of the week. Was such a novelty
Yeh, the ABC TV Movie of the week, or ABC Tuesday Night Movie. and they had good well known actors in them! Todays TV is really bad.

I love the flashbacks....showing their Father. Sadly Hugh Beaumont had passed away in 1982 the year before this reunion movie came out in 1983.
Principal photography of "Still The Beaver" took place in 1982, only months after Hugh Beaumont died.
Thanks so much for posting the reunion movie for the original series, which I still enjoy. I watched "Still the Beaver" when it first aired on CBS and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great watching June, Wally, the Beaver, and their family circle adjust to life in the 1980s, but it moved me to tears (as it still does) to see the movie travel back to the 1950s and '60s to pay tribute to Ward. Surely, June was a nurturing and calming presence for Wally and Beaver, but it was Ward who provided a foundation and a moral compass to help the boys meet life's challenges. And he didn't even hesitate to discipline his sons when it counted. RIP to Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Beaumont, Tony Dow, and most of the supporting actors associated with both the original series and the 1983 movie. Glad Jerry Mathers is still with us:)
Thanks for posting this. I grew up watching the original show ever day at lunch and I remember watching this movie when it came out but i haven't seen it since. Great memories!

In memory of Hugh Beaumont.
I remember the old TV Guide. It was such a great TV guide until all the cable channels were born and TV guide went history.
There was a closet at the top of the steps before,I remember Mrs Cleaver opening the door in one episode and an accordion falling out and rolling down the stairs, and she says.. Ward it's accordion!and he replys yes we've already determined that dear,I still laugh when I watch that scene 😄
Thank you for posing this movie. I think a lot of people can relate to the Beaver.
That was a surprisingly (for an 80's movie) touching tribute to Ward Cleaver

Always Loved Leave It To Beaver. Still watching it today at 53. Tv for the last 40 years is nothing but trash. May all the cast who past away Rest in Peace in God's Kingdom.
No matter what age you are, most people feel the the shows you grew up with were the best and everything that comes later is trash. You say the last 40 years but that would include this Still The Beaver/New Leave it to Beaver revival series, which I enjoy, though not as much as original. And although I love the original Leave it to Beaver and many other series of the 1950s and 60s, I also think there have been many other great series in each decade since then, including Downtown Abbey just a few years ago.
I used to watch Leave It To Beaver everyday after school in the 70’s & 80’s. It was truly a wholesome family show. Am sad that Tony Dow died today. You’ll be missed.
What I do like is the lovely ending. June Cleaver, so very, very famous and so under-rated. Always so wry, gentle, smart and savvy, but bowing to her place in time when she raised her family. That knowing wink in her eye! It is such a meloncoly thing to see June shipping herself off to a Leasure World, but this is the order of life. Reciting off her long time list of accomplishments as the mistress of the Cleaver house is so touching. Nobody did it better. In your audience's hearts forever...
Thank you!!! What more can I say but thank you for uploading these. I am in the UK but the legend of Beaver is far and wide and I just got done watching the original show. I couldn't watch this when it originally aired but watching it now brings back great memories of growing up in the 80s and 90s. It was a different world, a simpler time and one I really miss. It is nice to relive it a little watching this now :)

I remember watching this at the time I was only 12 at the time. I never got to watch a rerun. No DVRs back then. Brings back good memories.
First of all the people that left a comment, I'm happy to say that I have not been the only one.❤ And Scott awesome thank you I am so glad that you caught this. I kept flipping out I'm like when did you get this, I did not even know this existed,my mother passed away in 1983 I guess I did do a little bit of hide and seek then. But why I was really excited Ken Osmond and Tony Dow just passed a while back, and though I loved the show. I think these two guys kind of had a slight edge over the rest of the characters. Let's face it Eddie Haskell could sell igloos to Eskimos. And Wally became like a great filter of things happening around him having to always take care of beaver. Deal with Eddie , lumpy, you know so he was so cool he did his own thing yet he had everybody's back. So this part in the movie was right on the money. Beaver I think a lot of his habits growing up you know putting worms in his pocket s and dead things to play with. I hope that doesn't wear off on his children maybe they will grow out of it. But I do have a lot of experience knowing about childhood stars etc. And I think he's another one he just needed a couple good of good scripts. Custom wrote. I mean people knows him as one way they just need to get to know him another way he's not the same person.😮 Thanks again Scott I hope I'm subscribed, 👍

Gary Chambers , I agree sadly Hugh Beaumont passed away the year before the reunion movie came out.
Yes, Ward certainly would have given Beaver parenting advice father to father. He would have been a doting Grandpa to his grandchildren.
Ward would have told Beaver think twice about getting married.
@@schallrd1 Ward probably saw something about Kimberly he didn't like and thought Beaver deserved better.

Still my favorite family show ❤️❤️
I’m glad I watched this. I saw it many years ago when I was a kid and watch the show every week on MeTV. Ward was always my favorite tv dad.
I used to watch MeTV every morning. They had the cartoon show then Leave it to 🦫Beaver🦫. Since we dumped Cable-TV and began using a digital antenna, there were quite a few decent channels. Sadly though over the last year or two, those really good channels were changed. Now where MeTV was they dumped MeTV and swapped IonTV, and where IonTV was now has Defy & Grit and then THREE QVC/Home Shopping network channels! Oh boy! MeTV had some amazing programs, classic 📺TV📺shows that many of us grew up watching, or spent years watching the syndicated re-runs. I really enjoyed that channel. Every season change we seem to get a "new" 📺TV📺station lineup. And so far they've been horrible! We lost another good channel and got another QVC type Shopping channel, this one for jewelry, jewels, rings, and other "accessories". Again, YIPPEE!
I watch it also on MeTv comes on 7am to 8am.
The Movie is kind of sad. But ends up happy. Just sad most of them passed away now.

How did 1983 get so far away from us? It was ULTRA-MODERN times! Now it's loooong ago, in the mists of time and golden memories. Most of the people I loved then, have been gone for quite a while. I remember by 83, I already missed the 70s so much by then. To me the 70s were ridiculously awesome. Early-mid 80s were only good, because we just had the 70s!
That's funny you said that; I used to see it that way too- as "ultra modern" times....
The 80s were better than the 70s.
