I was in a pretty big band when this hit, And I stand by this statement, the music world at the time needed Vulgar Display of Power, This album in my opinion was a monumental and epic piece that set the table for Heavy (at the time called Thrash/Power/Speed metal) Musis, I had the honor of meeting and partying with Pantera in the early 90's, they were like dudes from your neighborhood, there was never any judgement and they treated you like they had known you your whole life, righteous band, great guys, RIP Dime and Vin, thanks for the reaction, as always....and I tell you every time, stay true to you, you're kickass
Pantera and Alice in Chains were good friends back in the day. There's old videos of AIC and Pantera touring together. Phil once sung the song Would? with AIC after Layne's death on VH1. Next Pantera song you should check out is Cemetery Gates
I second a Shedding Skin reaction for anti love month. Side Note (fact): every band you've ever reviewed worships Dime's guitar solos... it is a fact - He is the One who gaveth
I remember being a kid and watching the ozzfest concert Pantera played this and all the women started flashing the camera made sure to catch all of it traumatized now lmao
Pantera has some amazing stuff. Suicide Note Parts 1 and 2 are both fantastic. Especially when listened to as one long experience back to back. Definitely worth a listen at some point. Even if you don't react to them! Though that would be cool to see. :)
Another great one. I remember hearing this song for the first time (first Pantera song ever) watching late night music videos at a friend's house. It's been awhile, but Pantera was a big part of my young adulthood.
I don't know if that was mentioned, but AFAIK they were buddies with Alice In Chains, at least judging by Pantera's bassist autobiography. Also worth mentioning, there's a live video on YT of Phil from Pantera singing Would? with AIC.
😃 from when I was 22. I listened to this one as if I recommended it myself, with goosebumps. From the time that proper guitarsolo's were pretty common. Here we disagree. I think that guitarsolo's add a lot to metalsongs. I guess we don't have to agree on everything 🙂 Rock on 🤘
Hey lauren No more Head trips LOL Guitar solos r one of the best things about a song ;) Also if u look up Top ten Anti-love songs this song is basically always in the top 10 lists
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song so much and your reaction. Luckily, I got over your disinterest in guitar solos some time ago, so it's not surprising here. Granted, I love Dimebag Darrell's guitar work so much though.
I'm glad you reacted to this song and liked it. I remember recommending it back then. Also I'm glad you picked the original version not the shorter one. May be you can try the song "Porcelain Heart" by Opeth. It's a sad song, and no growls here.
@@unknownartist0101 For example, half the song on Far Beyond Driven didn't have a legit solo. See: Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, Slaughtered, 25 Years and Use My Third Arm. There's an obvious change in song structure compared to Cowboys, no?
Maybe something like Katatonia - My Twin would be a good one for the playlist. Also you said you don't like guitar solos while reacting to a Pantera song which is pretty much blasphemy but I applaud your honesty.
RIP Dime and Vinnie. One of the greatest live metal shows I've ever seen. You should check out some more, maybe Floods or 10s for starters. Their entire catalog is 🤘🤘
Shedding Skin is another good anti love Pantera song. There'd be no Corey Taylor if there were no Phil Anselmo. Phil's vocals changed metal. Dimebag's solos will keep you entertained. One does not wait through a Dime solo.
As long as you're true, differing tastes are not a turn off, but for guitar solos, I recommend Trivium. A good Trivium song might change your mind about that. Guitar solo's have to have good taste
Great song...and yes, as others have noted, Phil Anselmo had ridiculous vocal range back then (check out Cemetary Gates). As far as guitar solos are concerned, I get why you don't really like them. I think they got to a point where many bands overused them. But I will say there are a few guitarists that can fit a solo into the feel and meaning of a song in such a way that the solo almost transcends the song itself. David Gilmour and Alex Lifeson did it regularly and there are plenty of others.
Hi Lauren! Someone else suggested “I Don’t Believe In Love” by Queensryche which is a very good choice. Also, “Too Late For Love” by Def Leppard would be another good one.
I had a friend that was at the show where Dime got murdered. Never talked to her about it very much. obviously. This video was definitely on Beavis and Butthead, which was such a great part of that show. "You treat your stepmother with respect, Pantera!"
Going into the anti-Valentine's day playlist... I nominate these songs: "Lovin' touchin' squeezin' " by Journey ... 'Black' by Pearl Jam ... "Love's a loaded gun" by Alice Cooper ... 'Too young to fall in love' by Motley Crue... "I'll get even" by Megadeth ... "Scarred" by Dream Theater ... 'Payback' by Slayer ... "You're crazy" by Guns N' Roses ... "You don't love me anymore" by Weird Al Yankovic ... 'Black Lodge' by Anthrax ... 'Honeymoon suite' by Lacuna Coil ... 'Warning' by Black Sabbath... "Goodbye to romance" by Ozzy Osbourne ... "One by one" by Foo Fighters ...
Sorry Lauren, but I must disagree with your Alice in Chains comparison. Alice in Chains is a great band. Every time I've tried to listen to Pantera I've just wanted to scream "MEH!". By the way, Alice in Chains Heaven Besides You is a great anti-valentine song.
Machine Head released a single called Circle The Drain and that was literally released as an anti-valentine song so I suggest checking that out if you haven't already, another good one is My Last Serenade by Killswitch Engage
And do i hear Bon Iver in the back? ( if so, so you actualy still have that little spark of light deep in your heart , you cunning , sweet lieyng, wana be suffering little butterfly :) Take care

What band were you in?
Forgot to give a shout-out for this one. Thanks to Hattem AlHajery! :D
Thanks Lauren
👊🏽❤❤
Dime has some epic solos that might just make you go against the grain of not liking solos
As a rock fan and a Texan, I would be thrown out of the state if I was not already familiar with this one 😁. Phil is so good at giving angry vocals.
Pantera and Alice in Chains were good friends back in the day. There's old videos of AIC and Pantera touring together. Phil once sung the song Would? with AIC after Layne's death on VH1.
Next Pantera song you should check out is Cemetery Gates
R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell & Vinnie Paul. Both Abbott brothers gone way too soon.
Truly Legends
I second a Shedding Skin reaction for anti love month.
Side Note (fact): every band you've ever reviewed worships Dime's guitar solos... it is a fact - He is the One who gaveth
Another good anti love song is Shedding Skin by Pantera.
I remember being a kid and watching the ozzfest concert Pantera played this and all the women started flashing the camera made sure to catch all of it traumatized now lmao
Now you need to react to Pantera Floods
Pantera has some amazing stuff. Suicide Note Parts 1 and 2 are both fantastic. Especially when listened to as one long experience back to back. Definitely worth a listen at some point. Even if you don't react to them! Though that would be cool to see. :)
That whole album is one of my all time favorites and I can't say why I haven't listened to it for so long. On my to do list for tomorrow:)
That faded outro at the end is also kind of an intro for the next album track. Slow fade into a punchy start on the next song.
React to pantera floods next.
🔥 vid
Another great one. I remember hearing this song for the first time (first Pantera song ever) watching late night music videos at a friend's house. It's been awhile, but Pantera was a big part of my young adulthood.
More Pantera please and thank you 🙏
And guitar solos, we can talk about that too. I think you just like smart made, fit to the songs solos. So, thats completely fine :)
Oh you need to react to Floods
++
Love? by Strapping Young Lad should be on your playlist.
I don't know if that was mentioned, but AFAIK they were buddies with Alice In Chains, at least judging by Pantera's bassist autobiography. Also worth mentioning, there's a live video on YT of Phil from Pantera singing Would? with AIC.
Great reaction, I appreciate your hard work! You really should react to Floods by Pantera, thanks for your time.
Bullet For My Valentine - Pretty On The Outside or Alone 🤞🤞
😃 from when I was 22. I listened to this one as if I recommended it myself, with goosebumps. From the time that proper guitarsolo's were pretty common. Here we disagree. I think that guitarsolo's add a lot to metalsongs. I guess we don't have to agree on everything 🙂 Rock on 🤘
You made me f’n LOL! Throw in some Cowboys from hell, cometary gates…also please do Opiate2 by Tool.
Hey lauren No more Head trips LOL
Guitar solos r one of the best things about a song ;)
Also if u look up Top ten Anti-love songs this song is basically always in the top 10 lists
5:08 Indeed, and they sound alike Corey lists Phil as one of his inspirations :)
it's funny you mentionned layne and alice in chains because pantera were friend with them and they toured with them
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song so much and your reaction. Luckily, I got over your disinterest in guitar solos some time ago, so it's not surprising here. Granted, I love Dimebag Darrell's guitar work so much though.
PANTERAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I'm glad you reacted to this song and liked it. I remember recommending it back then.
Also I'm glad you picked the original version not the shorter one.
May be you can try the song "Porcelain Heart" by Opeth. It's a sad song, and no growls here.
Phil believed the need for the guitar solo was a dying. Their last couple of albums, Dime often half-assed it and dove back into the riffs.
When did dime half-assed it ever?
@@unknownartist0101 For example, half the song on Far Beyond Driven didn't have a legit solo. See: Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, Slaughtered, 25 Years and Use My Third Arm. There's an obvious change in song structure compared to Cowboys, no?
You should played This Love and Rise Together!!!!!!
Maybe something like Katatonia - My Twin would be a good one for the playlist. Also you said you don't like guitar solos while reacting to a Pantera song which is pretty much blasphemy but I applaud your honesty.
I recommended this one also, I think it would be a great pick!
Going to double down on My Twin by Katatonia and I Don't Believe in Love by Queensryche!
generally speaking, Pantera fans like guitar solos, I think...Dimebag was basically the Eddie Van Halen of Heavy Metal
Out of lyrics = Dimebag! :)
Check out the Dead South Banjo Odyssey, In Hell I'll be in Good Company, The Recap.
RIP Dime and Vinnie. One of the greatest live metal shows I've ever seen. You should check out some more, maybe Floods or 10s for starters. Their entire catalog is 🤘🤘
More pantera songs please.
Shedding Skin is another good anti love Pantera song. There'd be no Corey Taylor if there were no Phil Anselmo. Phil's vocals changed metal. Dimebag's solos will keep you entertained. One does not wait through a Dime solo.
Vicky! Do you prefer shredding skin over use my 3rd arm??
Hope this is the long one with the breakdown!
As long as you're true, differing tastes are not a turn off, but for guitar solos, I recommend Trivium. A good Trivium song might change your mind about that. Guitar solo's have to have good taste
Yeah, not my favorite. I do love Cemetery Gates. You should check that one out.
Moon baby by Godsmack. Great love song (or anti love song)
Great song...and yes, as others have noted, Phil Anselmo had ridiculous vocal range back then (check out Cemetary Gates). As far as guitar solos are concerned, I get why you don't really like them. Used to love her - Guns N Roses!!
guess it's Corey that has Phill vibes, if they are similar 😉
I would request Alice in Chains - love hate love..
great one!!
Strapping Young Lad - Love?
Wednesday :)
Dead Skin Mask awesome love song
Going into the anti-Valentine's day playlist... I nominate these songs:
"Lovin' touchin' squeezin' " by Journey ... 'Black' by Pearl Jam ... "Love's a loaded gun" by Alice Cooper ... 'Too young to fall in love' by Motley Crue... "I'll get even" by Megadeth ... more... more... more...
Machine Head released a single called Circle The Drain and that was literally released as an anti-valentine song so I suggest checking that out if you haven't already, another good one is My Last Serenade by Killswitch Engage
Shedding skin would have been better for the theme.
MAP18
you just haven't heard a good guitar solo yet.
Don't like guitar solos... in metal.... that's sacrilege!
And do i hear Bon Iver in the back? ( if so, so you actualy still have that little spark of light deep in your heart , you cunning , sweet lieyng, wana be suffering little butterfly :) Take care
I love guitar solos so long as they aren't shitty guitar solos/
