Good to see Tim further developing his kayak concept. As a boat designer, I could see that the original was too wide forward of the cockpit inhibiting paddle catch (entry) close enough to the kayak to be paddling efficient and yet somehow it worked well enough to be one of the best SOTs for years. This says more about the poor designs out there. This incarnation is a huge improvement. My only wish is that it was not shorter than the original. 15' would have been the sweet spot. I have not seen or tried the Scupper 14 in the UK yet. I will be sure to try it when I do.
Enjoyed your history and watching pros paddle, I have paddled a scrambler for 21 years and with 9 boats to choose from it still travels, moves and stays fresh better than $20,000 in my other boats. Thank you!
This is amazing. I took a Pro TW all along Catalina. This new model is fantastic, was very sad to see the Scupper had been discontinued by OK years ago.
Somewhere around 8 minutes in I realized I use the same paddle lease method as Tim! I see sea kayakers use a short paddle leash and surf skiers use a leg leash to the boat. But I like Tim's method best. It was great to see him poop and pop that wave! Oh and did I hear that right about 6 inches wider seat than the original Scupper Pro? So will it work for a wide fat paddler of 230 pounds plus gear?!!
I had an Ocean Kayak Scupper Classic 14 from 1986 How is this scupper from 2015... Nevermind...I'd only watched about 2 minutes of the video... 9:06 Mine was blue and like the one next to him missing the hatches (My hatches weren't missing) Mine had a 6" screw top Viking hatch between your legs too. I kept calling it a Scupper 14 but it's actually the SCUPPER CLASSIC ruclips.net/video/qXl5dTGYLG0/видео.html
just a heavy scupper-pro. im pretty sure its slower. the deep good tankwel of the scupper-pro that accommodated safely a big scuba tank became shalow and high above waterline, similar to the poor designed prowler. scubatank flips the kayak even on shore.
I still have two old Scupper Pros. I love them both for just fishing, diving, just exploring.
