This is actually good advice. Thinking of my hand as a nightmarish spider always gives me a confidence boost and improves my playing. This should be taught.
Are you raising the guitar higher for wide stretches like this? It kind of looks like it. I see you play in the "rock" position most of the time, but to me it always feels so uncomfortable high up on the neck in the left hand if I don't raise the guitar higher than my leg.
For technical stuff I recommend either standing up and tightening your strap so the guitar gets higher, or sitting down with a footstool and the guitar on your left leg.
In addition to the insane shred, he throws in that tasty blues improv afterward. Master! Great tone too... if that's a plug-in or digital device, it sounds fantastic.
