Great sermon indeed. Truly, I couldn't live without the holy spirit. With his guidance, my life has transformed and I constantly think and talk about Jesus. The power, the love, guidance, convictions, signs and wonders...for those out there who haven't received the most wonderful gift ever imaginable, seek Christ, and his Holy Spirit. There is no life without him. May Jesus bless you.
Praise be to ourLord Jesus Christ on hearing this sermon. Let the Holy Spirit consume every believer to be on fire and transformed everyday. God bless you bro. Piper....
praise God for this sermon may God bless you John Piper. most of comments below this video are inspired by the devil himself, just to discourage you not to listen to truth. considering themselves wise.
As a prophet of God, i declare that this message is from God and that this man is born of the Spirit of God, and anointed to preach this message, in these last days God is revealing His truth so that those who are robbed of this truth will be set free, and KNOW that all who are born again HAVE received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. God Bless you brother John
No i dont get to wear fancy robes, nor would i want them, i am fully dressed in the full armour of God, my mind being renewed by the word of truth, anyone born of the Spirit knows the words of the Spirit, we hear the words of the Father and speak those, we commend any worker in the field for truthfulness to the doctrine of Christ, and we speak out against corruption of the pure word of God hope this helps you.
Who is God, and what has he told or shown you personally that will come to pass in the future? When a person says "I am a prophet of God" that immediately throws up a red flag. But now prove it by telling what God has told or shown you that will come to pass in the future?
I've never seen the Body so divided...whatever happened to "God bless you" and "I receive that?" There's so much condemnation and not enough "Let's pray over this and see what the Holy Spirit reveals to us." I think we can all agree on this: if we simply cannot love each other, if we cannot look past over who knows what and how they present their arguments, it does us no good how knowledgeable we are of the Word. We would just be modern day Pharisees. I don't know about you guys, but I just want to say I love you guys and I hope for peace among us. Blessings.
acts 2:38-39 it is so clear but those who do not love to do the work of the Lord Jesus can find all kinds of excuses to say no to the boldness that we need to walk the resurrected walk for Jesus. If it was good enough for the disciples it is what we need to withstand the devil's wiles. I have been Spirit filled for over 29 yrs and I have never ever been sorry that I have the infilling of His Holy Spirit. I have been able to withstand heavy duty attacks from the devil coming against me. I am bold as a lion and harmless as a dove. I am able to free those who the devil has bound with sickness and disease. Why would not all Christians want gift that God wants us to have His Holy Spirit Baptism of Fire for Holy Boldness for all Christians. Praise the Lord Jesus for all that He has given us.
Jesus came and saved me and I had no idea what had happened. I was not and would not go to any church nor pick up a Bible. After I was born again a brand new creation I searched the Bible to find what had happened to me. In Ezekiel 34th chapter God says he himself will gather his wandering sheep. Then he baptized me with his wonderful Holy Spirit. Again no man or denomination had influenced me again I searched it out in the Bible. That was 1977 and he has done so many things I cannot write them all. Never allow men to turn you aside from bring saved then baptized by Jesus in his Holy Spirit.
I watched the first 30 min and subscribing to the baptism in Holy Spirit as manifested almost always by tongues as well I couldn't agree more with John Pioer
If a brother or sister in Christ can declare JESUS IS LORD, but doesn't receive their prayer language at the moment, you declare their faith in Christ null and void? You sound a lot like the Pope.
The batism of the holy Spirit as the penticostal churches teaches was actually an empowerment of the Spirit that the first believers needed for them to spread the gospel of salvation in a hostile society. Thats why they were summoned by Jesus to wait for the occasion before they assume the work. And please observe that not all of the believers of that time experience the same even Paul who can speak in tongues better than the rest. Please take note that baptism of the holy Spirit is administered by Jesus and not by any preacher that forces the believers to mumble the believers as they perform the rituals. And there is noting to boast for even hindus can speak in tongues.
Jesus is God, he said so here: John 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. The Father says the Son, Jesus is God here: Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Also, answer this question: In John 15:24 Jesus said this..If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not sin; but now have they both SEEN and hated BOTH ME AND MY FATHER. Now, If Jesus isn't saying he is God here..how did they SEE THE FATHER? Repent from following a false god and praying to an idol black stone before you end up in hell with Muhammad. I'm trying to help you, islam destroys 100% of the people who follow it. And there are more muslims who believe Jesus is God than there is that do not believe Jesus is God, and that is because all of the dead Muslims know the truth. Don't be like them, repent of your sins of idolatry to Jesus in hopes of receiving salvation and being born again...then you will Know God Personally. You can know Jesus personally. I hope you will make the right decision for your own eternal welfare.
Islam is a false religion wiith a false god. Repent of your idolatrous ways from praying to a dead god and bowing to a black stone. And show that you really love Jesus by following him in spirit and truth as your Lord and Savior. Save yourself while you still have time, by leaving and denouncing the cult religion of islam.
The arguments for and against, speaks in volumes on our categories of interests with little regard for the Spirit and His activities in individual lives.
Amen! You are Baptized by the Holy Spirit then Filled thereafter, He is a gentleman, you must pray and ask Jesus for the Baptizing and then wait for Him to come as He chooses, The Holy Spirit gives the gifts as He wills 1 Corinthians 12:11.
+Jonathan Harness ROFL! ACTUALLY, KID, YOU HAVE NEED OF SALVATION - YOU HEARD ABOUT PAUL AND THE DISCIPLES OF JOHN ON THYE INTERNET, YOU NO MORE KNOW WHERE THAT STORY IS IN THE BIBLE THAN DOES THE MAN IN THE MOON. I SCOFF AT YOU, KID!
How are we Spirit baptized and our sins washed away? By calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!~ACTS 22:16 Jesus holds the reigns to baptism now, and we have man taking back the reigns and doing what he has no right to do!!
earl clay You are baptized by the Holy Ghost when you believe on the Son of God, out of a pure heart. God gives his Spirit to those of a broken spirit and contrite heart. See Psalm 51:17 Who are you to say who has or has not the Spirit of God? Jesus said, "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. John 3:8
The Son of God wants to give All Persons on the Earth The Spirit of God for a Teacher and Comforter Forever. The Spirit of Truth will bring All the Words of Christ to our Minds, and Teach us of things to Come. The Messiah gives us Perfect instructions to have The Spirit of God in the Bible book of John, chapters 14, 15, and 16. The Lamb of God is Worthy of our Repentance, and Love. May the Peace of Christ be within you.
John Piper is correct in his definition of the term, baptized, or baptism. It means to be immersed, plunged or dipped into, but it is talking about being placed into the body of Christ. That only happens one time, which is when Jesus accepts a persons repentance and plea for him to become Lord of their life. All that comes after that are "being filled" with the Spirit. We cannot be placed into the body of Christ any more than we already are at salvation. I don't want to try to make too much of this, because it may be splitting hair, so to speak. God did what he did, and He will do what and how He wants to do it, so what we call it may be of some importance, but not of eternal. What we call it does not determine our salvation.
Acts 8: 14-17 and Acts 19:1-7 and 2Timothy 1:5-7 all indicate the baptism is a second event....there is a difference between having the indwelling of the spirit when you believe... And being submersed (is baptized) in the Holy spirit.
+earl clay, This "apostolic oneness rhetoric" as you have called it is a reference to something written plainly in the Scriptures (Acts 19:1-7). And I do indeed believe baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sins, as it is written in Acts 2:38.
+earl clay, I am a Christian. I have no idea what a montanist is. I also do not care to find out. The reason I spend a lot of time speaking on those topics is because they are foundational and have to do with obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ. God is one. He is not made up of three persons. Most people who profess to be Christians do not know this most basic precept, and so I feel it needful to preach that in particular. If you only want to continue arguing about these things, save your time, because I will not entertain that. However, if you have any earnest questions about these things, then I am at your service to minister to you in these things as the Lord Jesus Christ makes me able.
He is faithful! His blood is sufficient for the atonement. Repent and trust alone in Him. He is the Holy righteous God who made us able to stand in His presence through the blood of Christ. You may know that you have salvation with a positive assurance. Romans 10:9-10 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved
The Gospel of John taught me two things about the Spirit and that is “upon” and “in” - The Spirit “upon” is not a new concept as O.T. Saints like Samson, Elijah, Elisha, David had experienced. - Through the risen Lord, we can expect the Spirit upon us to do ministry (Luke 4:18-19; Acts 1:8) just like Jesus said in John 14:12. - Through the risen Lord, we now have the Spirit dwells “in” each one of us (John chapter 7 and 14 and 20) that the O.T. Saints didn’t have and this is the fulfilment of the promises in the book of Jeremiah and Ezekiel - In conclusion, the teaching of John Gospel include the Spirit “upon” just like Jesus so we can do the same works (John 14:12) and the Spirit “in” us corporately and individual are temple of he Spirit. Out of the four gospels, only the gospel of John emphasised the Spirit will be “in” the believer (Jesus is the temple of God as in John 2:19 and now we are the temple of God). Therefore the Spirit does both “in” and “upon.”
when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all filled with one accord id the n one place. suddenly there came a sound from heaven ,as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tounges,as of fireand one one sat upon each of them.AND THEY WHERE ALL FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPRIT AND BEGAN TO SPEAK IN OTHER TOUNGES AS THE SPIRIT ENABLES THEM. Acts 2.38 Acts Acts
Piper is scripturally sound... The comment section below makes me groan in the Spirit... It almost sums up all of the years that I've clashed with pentecostels. Sometimes the birds that snatch away the seeds also nest in the Tree. Look up Matt 13 and read the whole chapter.
I agree with John, but the heart has to be right before God before His Spirit will indwell within that person. They must have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, understand what they are as a sinner, and have a contrite heart for their sin condition before God. Only a repentant heart can receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Are you baptized in the Holy Ghost?? Tell me about that experience please. How did the HG came to you??? Did you felt a phisical being come in to your body? Or was it all a mental experience? one in wich you persuaded your self that you reach a level of worthiness, as you said(the heart has to be right with God)once you proved to God your heart was right. Please tell me about the experience, I'm very interested to know how this Holy Spirit works, pecause everybody tells me he is a person, and a person needs a body. Plus, every preacher of every denomination says the Holy Spirit talks to him. Who is lying?? They can't all be right. Either somebody is full of shit or this Holy Ghost is telling everybody a diferent story. Wtf???
pablo sori God can see through to the heart, and does not need one to prove their self to Him. Luke 8:15 but that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Only those who desire to do God's will are born of His Spirit. It is not a physical feeling or experience, as some claim. It is a new birth. No longer dead in sins and trespasses, but alive in Christ as servants of righteousness. No longer living unto the flesh, and fulfilling the lusts thereof, but walking in the Spirit, unto the will of God.
Salvation I was listening to John Piper, a world famous, internationally known and in great demand (at least in baptism circles) pastor teaching his rendition of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. I began to take apart his main points and noticed various serious errors in the theology used. If you listen to him and know as much as or less than him you could easily mistake his statements concerning the baptism of the Holy Ghost as true which they are not. When these erroneous teachers start marginalizing any work, gift or doctrine given by the Holy Ghost it is time to move on. Excruciating drama doesn’t make up for a lack of knowledge and truth. The scriptures teach us clearly what the baptism of the Holy Ghost is. Piper began by saying that John the Baptist, baptized with water but Jesus baptized with the Spirit. Totally false. Reference: Matthew 3:11 11 “I baptize you with[a] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[b] the Holy Spirit and fire. (NIV) At face value this sounds accurate until you realize that the Holy Ghost into which we are baptized, as the “second baptism”, had not been given until the day of Pentecost. The day of Pentecost is the day the Holy Ghost’s ministry started on Earth and the first day the baptism of the Spirit was available to the church which was 40 days after the crucifixion. Piper would be the first to agree that the trinity is separate and individual persons that have distinct and independent ministries to the body of Christ that are not redundant. Jesus says this as well in Acts1:4-5 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them (180 people including his mother) that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.” Jesus is saying wait for the promise of the Father (which John was talking about) and you will be baptized with the Holy Ghost, which has not come yet. Here is the obvious error of Piper: the scriptures confirm that while Jesus was on Earth, no one was baptized in the Spirit by him because the Spirit wasn’t available to the body of Christ at that point. The Holy Ghost and the baptism of the Holy Spirit came only after Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. Jesus is the Redeemer amongst other titles but He does not intrude into the Holy Ghost’s spiritual responsibilities of which Spirit baptism is one. We see Jesus’ distinction that the baptism in water is one purpose and the baptism in the Holy Ghost is another. By Jesus’ own words in Acts 1:8 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Notice, before this baptism they had no power to witness for Jesus or Jesus would have said “receive more power and then go.” This empowerment is absolutely essential to do the work of Christ referred to in Mark 16:15-18 15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes (active tense) and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe (passive tense) will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Without the empowerment in Acts 1:8 the above works cannot be produced in the individual which is the proof they are a believer. Check your own life and see how many are functioning in your life daily. For many of you it is time to stop hiding behind your pastor and open God’s word to learn to do what you must do. Remember we each have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. Mark 16:15-18 is the only true door which shows us how to enter heaven as a born again believer. The first of our individual, imperative commands given to each believer by the author and finisher of our faith, is to preach or share the gospel (life, death, burial and resurrection) of Jesus Christ. We are all called to this, without exception, without excuse. Trying to justify one’s choice not to do this will not stand in the face of God on judgment day. What Jesus is saying in verses Mark 16:17-18 will shake out all of the other non-believers regardless of who they think they are or how they try to hide their unbelief which comes in a huge selection of excuses, fears, lies, denominations and plain disobedience. Not one thread of these pure acts of disobedience will stand for anyone in the judgment. Mark 16 is the true and only way to enter life eternal with no subtractions or additions being acceptable. Nothing contradicts these requirements in any other part of the new covenant which would create confusion for the seeker. All men will be held accountable to God Almighty for the same, simple measure to enter everlasting life. Verses Mark 16:19-20 confirms the instruction given to followers which believe to do works that will endure until the end of the age. 19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. The sufficiency of Christ is found in all of the above and the sufficiency of the Holy Ghost is found in everything after Mark 16 referring to his ascension. To preach is our job, to bring forth belief and maturity in the gospel is the Holy Ghost’s. Only the Holy Ghost can make believers. If seekers believe the gospel, and are baptized they will be saved, if not they will be damned. These are Jesus’ words, not yours, like it or not. It is simple, clear. The only way that anyone has permission to preach the word is as Jesus gave it to us regardless of your theological brilliance. He is God and He will judge, you will not. We do it like we are told to do it, obedience is everything. It helps to remember that salvation is a multi-faceted, progressive work that takes years to complete and mature. Being born again is only the beginning steps. You must go on to spiritual maturity with the Holy Ghost who becomes your teacher and guide to insure you are a fruitful and productive servant of God. You cannot stay in the born again nursery but instead you must grow in the Spirit and learn to hear and be led by the Holy Ghost as the scriptures say. Reference: John 16:13 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. As a final comment: The parable of the talents isn’t about investments, it is about spiritual profitability to God and the rewards or punishment for the lack of. Take heed for your souls. Reference: Matthew 25:14-30 The Parable of the Bags of Gold 14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, [a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 “His master replied, ‘well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ 24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ 26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
I personally do not believe in WATER baptism being legitimate anymore, because Ephesians 4:5 says ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism,.... I'll take Jesus' baptism of the Holy Ghost over some man's immersion into water. And verse 7 But unto every one of us given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is a GIFT from Jesus!!! Not something you earn by getting dipped in water by a man.
Mellomoon Haze "Go into all the world and make disciples... Baptizing them in the name of the father, the son and the Holy Ghost." No one can baptize someone in the Holy Ghost, the only baptism we can perform is water baptism. Furthermore, all converts in Acts were baptized in water. Careful what you reject!
Baptism of the HS? I thought that's what happened when we received Christ? You mena there is another one? Please show me where the bible says there is another baptism. The baptism of the HS is when you accept Christ isn't it?
When we receive Christ we do receive his spirit but there is another part to it you are saved if you have repented the baptism of the holy spirit is speaking in tongues and feeling his presence and touch strongly! i am a born again christian praying for the baptism of the holy ghost i'm really really close to getting it the bible speaks of many times of this take the day of Pentecost for an example the disciples were saved and washed in the blood but it wasn't until the day of Pentecost they received speaking in tongues and the baptism of the holy ghost. -Acts:2:4 God bless you.
pigjubby1 You helped me realize one thing:. The Christianity that is on RUclips might be good watching, but to follow it as your faith is odd. It's not so much the videos, but the comments that result from these videos. What a waste of time this is. I'm reading my bible.
From the comments on here from those who believe in a second baptism, and from the attitudes of those comments, if this is what it means to be baptized in the holy spirit, I don't want any part of that spirit. But I thank God that the Holy Spirit I was baptized with would not allow me to talk like that. That is the purpose of the Holy Spirit, to convict us of our sin. He is not some kind of magical instrument to give us power like is demonstrated here in the comment section. He does not give us power to glorify ourselves like is demonstrated in this comment section. His purpose is for us to give glory to God through our conduct and speech so that others can see an example of Christ through us, for we are His ambassadors..
Your unbelief and rejection of God's Word in many places is duly noted. That you cannot see your blasphemy against God when you're intending to insult other Christians is offensive. That's tragic. When did God ask you for your opinions? If you're going to a church, that church is cheating you. Now, please pay attention... please. Notice Peter's words in Acts 2:38. "Repent..." OK, I think you don't yet have a good handle on that, but let us call that "step one." Then he says, "and be baptized." OK, that's one thing you just about couldn't mess up so you got that. We'll call that "step two." Here's where your reading comprehension is on the level of "brainwashed" for step three starts with *and* ... now, because you're brainwashed, it's likely that you're going to read this over and over and over and still not understand so I'll break it down for you. "Repent" doesn't *necessarily* take a long time *but it does take some amount of time, even if it's only a few moments or, amazingly, maybe a few seconds. The point is that you *cannot* get baptized *until* step one is *OVER* (unless, you're one of those weird ones who is in the baptismal tank (or a river or a pool, etc.) and it suddenly dawns on your darkened mind that the man that is about to baptize you doesn't even know you haven't really repented and the revelation from God hits you and you decide to "give your heart to God" the split second before you go under the water. OK, other than that, they are two entirely separate experiences that *TAKE TIME FOR EACH ONE*. Are we clear so far? Here's where you're going to have to make an effort to clear out the brainwashing and you're going to have to try really hard. Why? Because now we have the "and... you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Why does this mess with your brainwashing? Because the "systematic theology you've received *LIED TO YOU AND TOLD YOU THAT THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST CAME BEFORE YOU GOT BAPTIZED IN WATER! Now, because of that brainwashing, you probably need to take a few days to think about that because either Peter LIED when he said *AND* you will receive that gift of the Holy Ghost (and Paul *also lied* in Eph. 1:13 when he *also* said that you received the Holy Spirit *AFTER BELIEVING*) or the Bible is right and the guy who taught you your "systematic theology" *LIED*! I know, God forbid. But, there are the facts and either you'll sacrifice the Word of God for your pride's sake or you'll repent and believe the truth of God's Word, which, btw, is also confirmed when Paul found disciples and Ephesus and *discerned* that they were not baptized in the Holy Ghost and asked them if they had heard of Him. Again, *illustrating your brainwashing* that question in foreign to you because the unbelieving "believers" who taught you *NEVER EVER, NOT ONCE EVER* have you *ever* heard one of those preachers ask *any* Christians if they'd received the Holy Spirit "since" they believed. If your brainwashing is as bad as I expect, you're not even reading this. Nevertheless, I'll continue. There is *also* the experiences in Samaria. I could *easily* spend more than twice the time on that situation because it is so *beyond dispute!* Not only had Philip preached to them *and* baptized them *and* cast out demons and performed miracles (any of that happen in your church? I know the answer! It's "of course not" "we're unbelievers" ... oh... you didn't say that last part *even though it's true!* for the evidence, notice Paul's words about unbelievers in 1Cor 14 and you'll see that he calls Christians "unbelievers" and "non-gifted" both because of their ignorance of the manifestations of the Holy Ghost that come *only* after one is baptized in the Holy Ghost.). Back to Samaria. Here they are *saved and baptized!* *Unless you want to take the position that God sent Philip to Samaria when he was too stupid to know not to baptize unbelievers!* Is that what you want to believe? OK, so they are *saved and baptized* in Samaria! Oh... and "there was *great joy* in that city! Still want to pretend they weren't saved? What next? *READ THE PASSAGE UNTIL IT SINKS IN! The apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God and sent Peter and John.... What? Why? Aren't the saved and baptized and full of joy? This is where your *BRAINWASHING* SHOWS OUT! No one *sneaked* Acts 8 into your Bible *when you weren't looking.* Yet, how many decades *have you pretended that it DOESN'T SAY WHAT IT SAYS?* The Holy Ghost is bestowed through the laying on of hands *AFTER ... AFTER... AFTER... PEOPLE GET BORN AGAIN!* Now, when are you going to quit lying about God's Word?
The purpose of the Holy Ghost is not to convict us of sin. (That responsibility falls upon your heart and your conscience and, if that doesn't work, your enemies and your friends.) The Spirit convicts *the world* concerning sin, righteousness and judgment. The Spirit is our Comforter, Helper, Guide and Lord (remember He's here in Jesus' place for us [Jn 16:14], but we're here in Jesus' place to minister to the world as He did. Remember He said, "As the Father sent Me, so send I you"?) You're supposed to listen to Jesus teach you His Word. You really need the baptism in the Holy Spirit even though you've disdained that. You need to read the Bible *much* more carefully, as I've spent a good deal of time illustrating in my previous post. I do hope you paid enough attention to see how much you've not recognize what the Word actually says but have believed the teachings of men. The only reason I spoke to you is because of your comments a week ago where you attacked the precious Holy Spirit baptism in your ignorance and unbelief. I didn't take too kindly to that. Your words reveal you know nothing about he baptism in the Holy Spirit. That's understandable because you've spent entirely too much time in Baptist churches. Lest you misjudge, *all* of my family on *all* sides were Baptists (except my Great Grandmother, who was Methodist) and I grew up in the Bible belt and NOT ONE of them *ever* told me of *one* answer to prayer, *one* miracle, *one* healing, not even *one* time the Lord spoke to them! NOT ONE OF THEM. Does that sound like "faith" to you? Do you ever meditate on "whatever is not of faith is sin"? So, I grew up in the same unbelief of all my Baptist relatives, Mark 16:17-18 doesn't make allowance for that kind of unbelief. But, the "smart" Baptists have decided that Mark 16:17-18 doesn't belong in your Bible, right? Have you ever read Romans 14:23b? I referenced it above. I recommend that you meditate on it. The OT has a number of references on meditation and if you look up the Hebrew word and examine the usages, you'll perceive what Biblical meditation is. One thing you'll see is that Biblical meditation references speaking more than than just thinking. After you do that, you might consider learning that the word "saved" in the NT is the Greek word "sozo" pronounced "sode-zo" and it means "saved, healed, preserved, protected, and delivered." If your preacher doesn't preach that you need a much better church. If we hear the Word and don't do it, James called us a "hearer" and he wasn't very nice about it.
IamaFreeWillOffering John 14:36.The Holy Spirit teaches us how to live as Christians. Also, that whole business regarding the heart convicting us of sin? Let's see what the Bible says about our heart: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" (Jerimiah 17:9) The heart isn't good. We should not listen to that which is deceitful above ALL things. Also, another problem you have: You think that all baptists don't teach that miracles and healings are for today. Ironically, John Piper is a continuationist, meaning, he DOES believe that miracles and miraculous healing is for today as well as speaking in tongues (however the Bible should be the final authority on how to use these gifts.).
***** "Also, that whole business regarding the heart convicting us of sin? Let's see what the Bible says about our heart:" You didn't mean, "Let's see..." You meant "let me tell you" because you think you're qualified to teach, but you're not. You're not even close. I could ask how it you missed 1Jn 3:21, "Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God," but not having a hearing ear (Prov 20:12), your pride wouldn't allow you to see your flagrant misuse of God's holy Word or to hear the scriptural rebuke for your bragging in your ignorance. Neither do you apparently understand that you're supposed to have a new heart and a new spirit. "John Piper is a continuationist, meaning, he DOES believe that miracles and miraculous healing is for today as well as speaking in tongues" *"BALONEY"* It's ALL HOT AIR. If he believed it, he'd experience it. That's a concept neither you nor he understand because you don't have "the same spirit of faith" (2Cor 4:13) of those you criticize. Then why doesn't he see them in his church? *Because his preaching and teaching is grievous to the Holy Ghost* and that's why the Holy Ghost doesn't move there (and you don't have enough of God to understand why... but you think you do... you're all "we're right" but yet *none* of you have enough of the power of God to get a someone's sniffles healed, much less cancer). I know about John Piper and I've heard him talk about how angry *men of God have made him* because they believe *some* of the parts of the Bible that John can no longer deny, yet won't humble himself before God enough to see what's wrong with his errant theology *just like you won't*. You would do well if you gave up that "I-know-it-all" spirit until you can demonstrate some of the evidence in the Bible you dishonestly claim you believe. You might look in the mirror and ask yourself why you pretend to believe the Bible when Mark 16:17-18 is the Bible's repudiation to your and Piper's claims. Is that too subtle for ya? When you start healing the sick, casting out demons and performing miracles, that will be the proof that you believe the Bible. It's not enough to say, "I believe it" when you quote Scripture that says you don't, i.e., giving me Scripture confirming that you see all men as unregenerate, with "desperately sick hearts" and don't have enough sense to recognize that quoting Old Covenant Scripture in a New Covenant context makes you look pretty stupid... and unbelieving of the promises of God, which we know, of course, is your and Piper's and MacArthur's foundation--*unbelief*. Jesus' redemption is available for all the desperately sick hearts that want Him and *that same redemption provides healing and miracles. You don't believe it because you say you do. You believe it when you *show it*. I'm sure there is a girl somewhere that you can impress with a tight t-shirt or something. You're wasting my time and I'm not impressed with your hard heart, your posturing and your pretentiousness. I wrote a great deal on this page before you ever responded to me. You could have actually learned a great deal if you only had ears to hear. *That's a gift of God that you don't have and are not likely to get* if you don't humble yourself and ask God for it. How smart do you need to be to realize how clueless you are about that which you don't know? Apparently smarter than you are. I'm moving you to the designation of "ignore."
Maybe instead of arguing or debating one should ask God to equip with the holy spirit as a guide to discerning his word. A lot of people are reading the Bible but they aren't STUDYING THE BIBLE. There's so much depth to the holy spirit so much I've been both confused and corrected on myself but to those seeking more understanding or are utterly confused I suggest you find yourself in a church WHERE the power of the holy spirit is made manifest through prophesy, tongues, healing, etc..... conservative churches ARE NOT GIVING BELIEVERS THE BREAD OF THE WORD!! how long can you be sustained by milk?? If we really study the word of God and call ourselves desciples of Christ then we really need to ask ourselves WHERE IS THE POWER???? WHERE IS IT IN THE CHURCH?? WHERE IS IT BY THE CONGREGATION, THE PASTORS??? We can't step foot into the desciples shoes and the sad thing is GOD GAVE US THAT ABILITY TO WALK AS THEY DID. Believers are to comfortable!!! Be baptized in the spirit and receive the POWER God is giving to us. For those who don't believe that baptism of the spirit is necessary let me ask you where is your power as a Christian??? How strong is your prayer life??? Aren't our first examples of followers in Christ the desciples?? Do we work as they did???
You made some good points, but I'd like to point out a truth you've apparently not noticed. Nowhere in the Bible does it command us to study, but Jesus did say to eat His flesh and drink His blood. The word that begins the passage in 2Tim 2:15 is wrongly translated, *"Study* (to show yourself approved") does not mean "study," but "be quick" or "be instant." Now, don't misunderstand, what we do in reading and learning God's Word can be called study but Jesus chose to call it "abiding," as in "If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you can ask whatever you want and it shall be done for you" and "If you abide in My word, then you are truly My disciples and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." Why did God *never* use the word "study" in the entire Bible? My guess is that He wants us to associate our relationship with Him and His Word as one of love and not work. :-)
***** Your failure to ground yourself in the Word of God has caused you to not be able to tell the difference between good and evil spirits. The Word is God (the Bible) is the truth and the Holy Spirit is the One who reveals it to us. Obtaining saving faith is a cooperative arrangement between God and us. Faith is the "vehicle" by which the Lord ministers to and directs us. You greatest error appears to be that you think it's OK to believe what you want and you seem to fail to grasp how important it is to not only believe that the Scriptures are God's Word, but that must be more than mental assent. Real faith is imparted as we receive what God gives us through believing His Word with the faith of which He is the Author. Supernatural experiences are great. We should have them. But supernatural experiences are not guarantees that the way you're following is in agreement with holy Scripture.
***** "When the bible is called "Gods word", that means the people who wrote it give their "word" it is what happened. It's not the word passed down by this God the Father in Heaven, its a history book." You're greatly mistaken. God Himself claims the Bible is His Word. If you don't believe that, then you have no standard, no foundation and you're as flaky as a three dollar bill. I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for what you believe. You've rejected God's testimony. Jesus said He was the perfect representation of the Father and He also said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but by Me." You've effectively called Him a liar. That's not smart and you will be the loser for it.
***** You think you've got a mind of your own, but you're led around by the devil. That's evident because *you refuse to believe the testimony of Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, which all testify that the Scriptures are TRUTH*.
A person who is yet to be born of water and of Spirit (John 3:5) will never walk in faith to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit by Jesus. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a one time experience as the dove descendant on Jesus on one occasion only. John 6:33 is more of receiving the Holy Spirit, not baptised in the Holy Spirit. John Piper is confused about receiving and baptised in the Holy Spirit.
To: constantly87 "Amen. BUT, notice, the Spirit was never something sought" That's a blatant lie, showing you listen to too many unbelieving pathetic preachers and NOT TO YOUR BIBLE. Luke 11:13 3 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” That's so plain, you'd have to have someone help you to misunderstand it.
He is the Alpha and Omega. "Spirit hovered over the surface of the deep" The Spirit is not something one acquires. It is given by Jesus. You're misinterpreting the text as if one can gain the holy spirit for oneself. Bless you
John Ho You didn't quote me and after long consideration, I've concluded that you were addressing jon willard. My words (whatever they might be) about the Holy Ghost were based on Scripture, God's personal revelation to me and experience. While I think your point about "acquiring the Holy Spirit" isn't quite right because the Holy Spirit is "the promise of the Father" and a gift to Believers, nevertheless your being a bit put off by jon willard's terminology is understandable. Therefore, I'm removing most of my comments. Because most haven't received the Holy Spirit, there are many who have very strong and unscriptural opinions rooted in unbelief and bad theology taught by unbelieving preachers (like Piper) who lead people *away from practical, genuine, evidential faith in Jesus*. (If you don't understand that sentence, then simply read Mark 16:17-18 and look in the mirror and ask yourself, "Have I experienced what Jesus said in this passage?" If the answer is "no," then look in the mirror again and tell yourself, "you are unqualified to be instructing people regarding the gift of the Holy Ghost if you have not *received by faith* these plain and simple words of the Master. Unbelief and inexperience is the problem with most bad teaching about the Holy Ghost because the Holy Ghost is the Teacher. Bad teaching about Him, keeping Believers from receiving Him is what *causes* people to stay ignorant and "in the dark about the precious member of the Godhead who is given by the Father to all true Believers who will receive Him by faith. Peter gave the pattern. "Repent, then get baptized in water, then anointed Believers can lay hands on you to receive the Holy Spirit, or one can simply receive directly from the Lord Jesus, who is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. This experience is the normal second part of the "One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism of Eph 4:5 and 1 Cor 10:2, that you've probably never heard any preacher or teacher teach on because, not having the Holy Spirit, they haven't heard Him teach accurately the truths of the New Testament and the glorious truths revealed to the apostle Paul. True religion is of the heart. We're *commanded* to "repent and believe the gospel" by Jesus Himself. Jesus said those who believe will speak in tongues, cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead and perform greater miracles than He did. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is the basis for experiencing the evidence Jesus told of in Mark 16. For example, "...as if one can gain the holy spirit for oneself" suggests you've failed to see God's plan in giving the Holy Spirit to Believers, for Jesus referred to Him as "the promise of the Father" (as I said before) and He also said "He shall come upon you," "He is with you and shall be in you." Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is clearly referred to as "the gift of the Holy Spirit." Is "receiving a gift" foreign terminology to you? It's very scriptural. I don't see where I or jon used the term "acquire" but I also see no reason to fault someone for using such a word, although there is a great deal of what jon said that leaves his comments highly questionable and unorthodox. Furthermore, the purpose of the gift of the Holy Spirit *is* for ourselves, and you can find that in the Scriptures. One place is 1 Cor 2:12 where Paul said, "Now we have received, not the Spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." Now, one needs to see and understand that all the New Testament Scriptures were written to Believers who had already received the Holy Ghost, for, as we see in Acts 8, after Philip preached the gospel to Samaria, the apostles in Jerusalem made it a point to go to immediately to to Samaria *to pray for the new Believers to receive the Holy Ghost*, something you'll be hard pressed to find any Baptist pastor admitting, yet the Scripture is *inexplicably clear*. Haven't you read Peter's word, "for you were chosen that you might inherit a blessing"? If one inherits a blessing, is that inheritance not "for oneself"? I don't know how much you know about the Holy Spirit. He is a gift (Gr. "doma" a gift in the form of a person) to Believers, also called Comforter, Helper and even Lord. How can you look at those descriptors and not see that the purpose of the Holy Ghost is to *help* us? You think you can live this life without God's help? You don't see "help" as being "for you"? You don't define "acquire" but seem to have a bit of an odd definition for it, because we "acquire" or receive both the Lord Jesus by faith and afterwards, the Holy Spirit by faith also. Remember John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice and I know them and they follow Me"? Seek the Lord in His Word and I think you'll see that I've represented His Word and His promises accurately.
***** Your ignorance of Scripture should compel you to listen and learn rather than speak contrary to Scripture as you have done. The Bible teaches that Jesus baptizes Believers in the Holy Spirit. It also teaches that the Holy Spirit is a gift for Believers. Therefore, it's not a stretch for people to think and say that Jesus "gives" the Holy Spirit to the Believer. Additionally, the Spirit is never referred to in Scripture as a "she." Only masculine pronouns are used. You can learn more with any number of Internet searches or you can go to:
***** Everyone is ignorant of some things. What makes people stand out as stupid is when they clearly don't know about that which they speak but keep on talking. Jesus always existed. He is the Creator of the Universe. Everything that came into being was created through Him. You'll find that in Colossians. Now, please stop advertising your ignorance.
To all you tongue talkers out there seeking the spotlight, you need to read Acts again. The languages spoken were known languages of the day not “as seen on tv” gibberish. They are even listed by name. What known language of our day are you speaking? That’s what I thought, it isn’t a known language but unholy spirit nonsense. Tongues was a sign to the unbelieving Jew... to be Scriptural, which does not seem to be important to you, there must be an unbelieving Jew present. You must speak one at a time, which is another impossibly for you spotlight seekers are looking for your 15 minutes and trying to out gibberish the other guy. Then absolutely no women were allowed. This alone would put you all out of business! Piper’s Spirit is “another spirit” who cannot seem to get things right the first time at their “alleged” salvation. Mark and avoid this new age, syrupy sweet ding dong nut job and get back to the KJB and the work Jesus gave us to do in the Great Commission and it was not speaking in tongues our employing pagan, new age practices so you can hover above your candle in the lotus position waiting for a vision. Ohm...ohm...Read your Bible!
"I thank that I speak in tongues more than all of you. Nevertheless in the Church I would rather speak 5 words..... "(1 Corinthians 14:18). Brother, David, I hope you are a tongue speaker like Paul. And yes, if you rather talk in tongues at home, do that. Blessings.
Gary, why would you say such a thing? Your not even providing evidence for your statement. Your just ranting and judging out of anger, and trying to make others look down on a man who has done more for the gospel than most could ever dream. This kind of speaking will make others turn from Christ as we so called Christians fight against one another. What is interesting to me is that if John Piper is not baptized in the Holy Spirit, then you better step back when he is cause this man is already on fire! That kind of thinking has always baffled me, cause if this man isn't filled and I am then why is he doing so much more than me? (this a rhetorical question by the way)
you should stop trying to brake the body of Christ for having a different view of scripture than you. it won't win you any points with God accusing his Sons like that...
earl clay have you even read the Bible because it does not sound like it. Stop trying to divide the church. If you have to question if a believer has been saved then maybe you should ask yourself if your faith is real. Wipe the speck from your own eye.
Best message John Piper ever preached!
Wonderful sermon coming just at the time in my life when I most need it. And I basically stumbled onto this. Praise the Lord!
Me too! God bless you Vincent.
Just BEAUTIFUL! Thank you Father. precious
I received more than a pot of gold tonight listening to this sermon. Thank you Holy Spirit, o risen CHRIST ❤️
Piper....
Praise God for His life. May the Lord continue to use you in His Kingdom.
praise God for this sermon may God bless you John Piper. most of comments below this video are inspired by the devil himself, just to discourage you not to listen to truth. considering themselves wise.
This message is so great...thank you❗GOD bless John Piper and protect your servant...
God Bless you brother John
as a prophet of God do you get to wear fancy robes and make folks kiss your feet or ring or do you just give your blessing on other's work?
Very interesting. Didn’t realize we need to ask for the filling of the spirit every day!
Blessings.
That's what religion does, it divides people who otherwise be in unity.
Shiites and sunnis, same story in all religion, a giant pile of steaming shit.
acts 2:38-39 it is so clear but those who do not love to do the work of the Lord Jesus can find all kinds of excuses to say no to the boldness that we need to walk the resurrected walk for Jesus.
❤❤❤❤❤ hallelujah so beautiful
Thanks for sharing this message and thanks for keep sharing this message!!!
Shout outs to Planetshakers College students watching this for their assignment
Acts 1:8: You shall receive POWER. More Lord... !
The Spirit changes lives and personas.
thanks for those words, you are a man of god
Thank You God my Father in the name of Your Son Lord Jesus Christ .
As a muslim i love jesus
If you loved Jesus truly you would be a Christian.
Jesus is God, he said so here:
John 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
The Father says the Son, Jesus is God here:
Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Also, answer this question:
In John 15:24 Jesus said this..If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not sin; but now have they both SEEN and hated BOTH ME AND MY FATHER.
What is sometimes overlooked is the privilege of engaging Holy Spirit in private prayer. It is a powerful means of prayer as the Spirit leads.
Never fail to be bemused by Piper's "judo and karate" choreography...
Amen! You are Baptized by the Holy Spirit then Filled thereafter, He is a gentleman, you must pray and ask Jesus for the Baptizing and then wait for Him to come as He chooses, The Holy Spirit gives the gifts as He wills 1 Corinthians 12:11.
+Jonathan Harness GIVE US ONE SPIRITUAL ISTANCE WHERE ANYBODY PRAYED FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE BIBLE - JUST ONE!
Paul, when he prayed for the men who had only John's water baptism, look it up, have a good night
+Jonathan Harness A BIBLE SCHOLAR, SUCH AS YOURSELF, SHOULD GIVE ME THE SCRIPTURE REFERENCE - HAVE A BUSY NIGHT.
Simply ask the Holy Spirit to teach you, and He will, ask Him to show you Scriptures and He will. You don't have need of me or anyone else
See Psalm 51:17
Who are you to say who has or has not the Spirit of God?
Praise GOD
Jesusiseverything The gospel of Christ: www.trustinginthewordoftruth.com/Salvation.html
earl clay,
Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed (with the evidence of speaking with other tongues)? Also, how were you baptized?
+earl clay,
This "apostolic oneness rhetoric" as you have called it is a reference to something written plainly in the Scriptures (Acts 19:1-7). And I do indeed believe baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sins, as it is written in Acts 2:38.
+earl clay,
I am a Christian.
Romans 10:9-10
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved
The Gospel of John taught me two things about the Spirit and that is “upon” and “in”
- The Spirit “upon” is not a new concept as O.T.
Saints didn’t have and this is the fulfilment of the promises in the book of Jeremiah and Ezekiel
- In conclusion, the teaching of John Gospel include the Spirit “upon” just like Jesus so we can do the same works (John 14:12) and the Spirit “in” us corporately and individual are temple of he Spirit. Out of the four gospels, only the gospel of John emphasised the Spirit will be “in” the believer (Jesus is the temple of God as in John 2:19 and now we are the temple of God). Therefore the Spirit does both “in” and “upon.”
I'm going to ACTUALLY listen this time... and keep my nose out of the damn comment section.
Thanks for letting us know...... I'm writing 8 years later.
when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all filled with one accord id the n one place. suddenly there came a sound from heaven ,as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
You know, when someone ask me to believe something without evidence.I take that as evidence of some major bullshit going on.
Thanks any ways. Good day
pablo sori lol... okay.
+Glenn Dunbar I don't take the bible as evidence for nothing but the stupidity of man kind.
There's many "holy" books and they're all full of shit.
All Christians read Galatians too.
Salvation
I was listening to John Piper, a world famous, internationally known and in great demand (at least in baptism circles) pastor teaching his rendition of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
Reference: Matthew 3:11
11 “I baptize you with[a] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[b] the Holy Spirit and fire. (NIV)
At face value this sounds accurate until you realize that the Holy Ghost into which we are baptized, as the “second baptism”, had not been given until the day of Pentecost.
Jesus says this as well in Acts1:4-5
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them (180 people including his mother) that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John baptized with[a] water, but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus is saying wait for the promise of the Father (which John was talking about) and you will be baptized with the Holy Ghost, which has not come yet.
By Jesus’ own words in Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Notice, before this baptism they had no power to witness for Jesus or Jesus would have said “receive more power and then go.” This empowerment is absolutely essential to do the work of Christ referred to in Mark 16:15-18
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
16 Whoever believes (active tense) and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe (passive tense) will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
Without the empowerment in Acts 1:8 the above works cannot be produced in the individual which is the proof they are a believer.
Reference: John 16:13
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
As a final comment:
The parable of the talents isn’t about investments, it is about spiritual profitability to God and the rewards or punishment for the lack of. Take heed for your souls.

The Parable of the Bags of Gold
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.
See, I have gained five more.’
21 “His master replied, ‘well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant!
Hi Larry, I read your comment and I'd like to say thank you. I finished reading it and learned a lot. ❤❤
I DON'T HAVE IT, I DON'T THINK. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME
thank you. God bless you
Larry, you need the baptism of the Spirit.
acts 2.38 repent be babtized in the name of Jesus receive Holy Spirit=tounges =live for the lord do his will.
Matthew 28:19. Ephesians 2. By Faith.
John the Baptist was a fool? and Jesus was insincere about his own baptism at John's hands? are you out of your fukn mind Mellomoon?
-Acts:2:4 God bless you.
dylan fields Show me that in Scripture
i metioned scripture in my comment Acts 2:4
Okay, they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
How is that baptism of the HS?
pigjubby1 You helped me realize one thing:.
"Repent..." OK, I think you don't yet have a good handle on that, but let us call that "step one."
Then he says, "and be baptized." OK, that's one thing you just about couldn't mess up so you got that. We'll call that "step two."
Here's where your reading comprehension is on the level of "brainwashed" for step three starts with *and* ... now, because you're brainwashed, it's likely that you're going to read this over and over and over and still not understand so I'll break it down for you.
No one *sneaked* Acts 8 into your Bible *when you weren't looking.* Yet, how many decades *have you pretended that it DOESN'T SAY WHAT IT SAYS?*
The Holy Ghost is bestowed through the laying on of hands *AFTER ... AFTER... AFTER... PEOPLE GET BORN AGAIN!*
Now, when are you going to quit lying about God's Word?
The purpose of the Holy Ghost is not to convict us of sin. (That responsibility falls upon your heart and your conscience and, if that doesn't work, your enemies and your friends.) The Spirit convicts *the world* concerning sin, righteousness and judgment. The Spirit is our Comforter, Helper, Guide and Lord (remember He's here in Jesus' place for us [Jn 16:14], but we're here in Jesus' place to minister to the world as He did. Remember He said, "As the Father sent Me, so send I you"?)
You're supposed to listen to Jesus teach you His Word.
So, I grew up in the same unbelief of all my Baptist relatives,
Mark 16:17-18 doesn't make allowance for that kind of unbelief.
After you do that, you might consider learning that the word "saved" in the NT is the Greek word "sozo" pronounced "sode-zo" and it means "saved, healed, preserved, protected, and delivered."
If your preacher doesn't preach that you need a much better church. If we hear the Word and don't do it, James called us a "hearer" and he wasn't very nice about it.
Again, thank God.
IamaFreeWillOffering
John 14:36.The Holy Spirit teaches us how to live as Christians.
Also, that whole business regarding the heart convicting us of sin? Let's see what the Bible says about our heart:
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" (Jerimiah 17:9)
The heart isn't good.
*****
"Also, that whole business regarding the heart convicting us of sin? Let's see what the Bible says about our heart:"
You didn't mean, "Let's see..." You meant "let me tell you" because you think you're qualified to teach, but you're not.
"John Piper is a continuationist, meaning, he DOES believe that miracles and miraculous healing is for today as well as speaking in tongues"
*"BALONEY"* It's ALL HOT AIR.
I'm moving you to the designation of "ignore."
acts ch 2 vs 33 read it and meditate on the evedance of what the Holy ghost receiving really is.
*****
Why is an unbeliever like you bothering to annoy Christians?
You made some good points, but I'd like to point out a truth you've apparently not noticed.
Nowhere in the Bible does it command us to study, but Jesus did say to eat His flesh and drink His blood.
The word that begins the passage in 2Tim 2:15 is wrongly translated, *"Study* (to show yourself approved") does not mean "study," but "be quick" or "be instant."
Now, don't misunderstand, what we do in reading and learning God's Word can be called study but Jesus chose to call it "abiding," as in "If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you can ask whatever you want and it shall be done for you" and "If you abide in My word, then you are truly My disciples and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."
Why did God *never* use the word "study" in the entire Bible? My guess is that He wants us to associate our relationship with Him and His Word as one of love and not work. :-)
*****
Your failure to ground yourself in the Word of God has caused you to not be able to tell the difference between good and evil spirits.
It's not the word passed down by this God the Father in Heaven, its a history book."
You're greatly mistaken. No one comes to the father but by Me."
You've effectively called Him a liar. That's not smart and you will be the loser for it.
*****
You think you've got a mind of your own, but you're led around by the devil. That's evident because *you refuse to believe the testimony of Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, which all testify that the Scriptures are TRUTH*.
It's amazing there are actually people who are listening to his preaching. Hopefully they realize though that he is a false preacher.

"Amen. BUT, notice, the Spirit was never something sought"
That's a blatant lie, showing you listen to too many unbelieving pathetic preachers and NOT TO YOUR BIBLE.
Luke 11:13 3 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”
That's so plain, you'd have to have someone help you to misunderstand it.
He is the Alpha and Omega.
"Spirit hovered over the surface of the deep"
The Spirit is not something one acquires. It is given by Jesus. You're misinterpreting the text as if one can gain the holy spirit for oneself.
Bless you
John Ho
You didn't quote me and after long consideration, I've concluded that you were addressing jon willard.

Your ignorance of Scripture should compel you to listen and learn rather than speak contrary to Scripture as you have done.

Everyone is ignorant of some things. What makes people stand out as stupid is when they clearly don't know about that which they speak but keep on talking.
Jesus always existed. He is the Creator of the Universe. Everything that came into being was created through Him. You'll find that in Colossians.
Now, please stop advertising your ignorance.

What you do is lie about the Bible and God.
Piper believes in a false gospel as he says you must work to receive salvation.. Eph 2:89 refutes him.
Blessings.
John Piper should repent of his unbelief and blasphemy against his brethren and get baptized in the Holy Spirit.
(this a rhetorical question by the way)
+earl clay
Because is all bullshit
you should stop trying to brake the body of Christ for having a different view of scripture than you. it won't win you any points with God accusing his Sons like that...
earl clay The Bible
earl clay have you even read the Bible because it does not sound like it. Stop trying to divide the church. If you have to question if a believer has been saved then maybe you should ask yourself if your faith is real. Wipe the speck from your own eye.
Best message John Piper ever preached!
