Since its inception in 2009, the red ball series has had a very interesting and unique history. Likewise, the speedrunning scene that surrounds it contains events, strategies, and stories that may be somewhat unknown or hidden to casual observers. In 2021, a Red Ball Speedrunning iceberg was created in order to collect these various aspects and topics, ordered from most known to least. Moving down the layers, the light from the sun shines dimmer and dimmer, as the relative knowledge of the topics becomes more sparse. This video will aim to analyze just the first three layers of this iceberg, the surface, while the subsequent part will aim to explain the bottom three, the depths.

Honestly, Red Ball is my love at first sight when I played the game on Friv back when I was a kid, and despite that it has no story, it's has a simple premise.

Also, for any new runners out there, I highly recommend playing the fifth game in the series, Red Ball 5. It's a little underrated because it's not an official game in the series, but it's a very neat game nonetheless. Please play it, I am begging you.

I think it's crazy that there's so much depth and even lore to these silly little flash games with a red ball. Such a cool community honestly.

My friend and I, who had iPod touches with no wifi, would use the Bluetooth function to connect our phones to play Minecraft PE locally. I know you are young, I’m almost 40, and I played very few flash games as when I was younger they weren’t as polished as many of the ones your speed run videos showcase. I think that in the lore, RB4 comes before RB3 for the swimming fact and because at the start of RB3, red ball and pink ball already knew themselves but in RB4 they first meet in the Vol. 5 opening scene

The uneven ground might be an explanation for double jump? The brief window in which you can jump in midair might be a safety net to make sure uneven ground doesn’t lock you out of jumping.
Yeah, we believe that mid-air jumps or "coyote jumps" exist partially because of the uneven ground. The mechanic doesn't exist in Red Ball 3, so the bumpy ground just causes jumps to be completely missed. A buggy implementation of coyote jumping is likely why double jumping exists.
