- We had a little accident with our fire. Our kids are very good at not getting near the hot glass. They all know it is hot and they always say it when they walk by. However, Wren was doing a tap shoe dance and since her shoes were slick, she slipped and her hand landed on the glass. Poor toddler got a 3rd degree burn on her hand from a fire accident. When we took her to the doctor they had to scrape all the skin off to avoid infection, and that wasn't the most fun. Wren is amazing though and nothing can bring her sweet spirits down.

When reading the title, I somehow knew that was Wren, whom I call her "the wild one".
In case you get hate comments, let me tell you that you reacted exactly as any normal parent would have! We are always struggling between the “rush to ER mode” and the “let’s wait a bit and see”. ERs are full of real emergencies, and if we fill them up with consults or dubious cases, the patients in need of urgent care get pushed behind. I think it’s important that we use discretion before rushing to an ER. But I’m so glad that Wren got the medical care she needed! I wish her a full and speedy recovery!

Wren is a trouper. I was babysitting once with the children at McDonald's. Someone walked by and spilled hot coffee on one arm of the children I was babysitting. McDonald's did not have a burn kit. I was so lucky a lively couple helped as I had 3 children and drove us to a children's hospital. It was only a second degree burn but you never know. So happy she is so resilient

Aww poor Wrenny Roo!! 😭 I swear she is the toughest kid though, she gets the most bruises but just such a little warrior and I’m convinced that nothing can keep her down or ever dim her bright light of a personality! 🥰 Honestly I wouldn’t have thought the burn was that bad either based on her initial reaction, I’m just glad you followed your gut and took her in just to be safe and now she is getting the proper care and I know that her burn will heal and she will be perfectly fine. And oh my goodness Jade!! 😍 I remember when Gemma and Jade were soooo tiny and were the absolute cutest together! It was like they had their own little language like best friends do and I will never forget how freaking excited they would get every single time they saw each other again! And even now they still get so excited to be together again and pick right back up where they left off like no time has gone by at all! 😍 They truly are going to be best friends for life and I am so incredibly grateful that I’ve been able to witness their friendship form from such an early age! 🥰 Like mamas like daughters 😉 Jade is so big now and she still has that sweet Jader-Bug smile that we know and love! It was super cute how Pia was comfortable with Jade holding her too. I’m also about to download that Brush Stroke app! I’m trying to get back into my artwork lately (I used to do pet portraits among other things with colored pencils), I feel like this app will let me do this effect on some of my pictures and inspire me to draw some creative stylized portraits and pictures! Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰 Oh and Cara I absolutely LOVE that photo of you in that gorgeous dress with the snow all around you, I just think it is one of the most glamorous and stunning photos (that are not professionally done) 😍

Hugs to Wren, She's such a warrior! I have raised seven (youngest being 13yo) and I can't even count the amount of times we went to ER. Accidents happen, esp w kids, you are GrEaT parents! Accidents will happen no matter what you do. Wren doesn’t seem to be bothered with it when wrestling with the rest of her siblings. She is happy with her pink bandage. She will want red for Santa 🎅🏻 Reese is such a little sweetheart going to check up on Royal to see if he is sick or tired. That interaction between Reese & Royal might seriously be the sweetest thing I've ever seen! Kids mimick what they see, so that probably says even more about you guys as parents then it does about them. Either way, they are absolutely priceless!!

My mom fell on a wood stove about Gemma’s age, she ended up having the imprint of a cabin that was on the stove scarred on her hand. Hope Wren feels better!

As a ER Nurse we see many , preventable burns unfortunately. PLEASE put a barrier around your fireplace when you have it on. There are many styles to choose from and are quite common in England. Accident prevention should be a priority in your household. Healthcare providers can ( depending on State laws ) report such incidents with CPS. Royal also had a choking incident , but it happened out of State. Usually a report will be made with three or more incidents. Safety must be a priority. God bless , and may you all have a safe New Year. 🙏
Try not to be too critical of this lovely family! They put themselves out there sharing their lives with us. Accidents are going to happen at some point with kids!

I will be praying for Wren. It's so hard when our child is hurt. Just realize that you did your best for her. An accident is not planned. That's why it's called an accident. Keep up the good work of parenting.
Oh no poor sweet girl. I pray she has a quick recovery. Any injury with any of our babies…can be pretty traumatic. Don’t be hard on yourselves. Accidents happen. Believe me…I know.

Toddlers are resilient and I got second and first degree burns from a fireplace too. I was 5 and sweeping 🧹 all the stuff into the fire (parents were not around and they told me never to touch the fireplace or anything around it without them around) and the broom caught fire and I tried to save the broom 🧹 that didn’t work out very well. You did the right thing taking her in to the doctors. You both are amazing parents. Merry Christmas to your family from mine.. 🎄🎁🎄⛄️❄️☃️

Aww my poor baby Wrenny! 🥺😱 ugh this just break my heart. Cara I bet you were freaking out. Wrenny I pray God will give you relief and heal your little hand. And Cara mother to mother anytime you feel uneasy about something with your kids you just take them to the dr. If you are worried that will be the only way to ease your mind and make sure they are okay.
That sounds so painful, the scraping of the skin, poor baby.💓At least she loves her pink owie.💖
When it comes to burns if you can get the affected area under running water and keep it there for 10 minutes take it out, if still stinging do it again for another 5 - 10 minutes. I worked for years with workers getting burns from their work eg welding etc The heat burns through layers of skin hence the reason you need to cool it for a while. Glad she is feeling better x

When my daughter was 1 she got 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree burns on the palms of both hands. I remember having to clean her hands everyday. Had to give her Tylenol with codeine to take the edge off the pain. I’d say that Wren’s burn was a bit more serious as the skin on the top of the hand is more delicate than the palms. So glad she seems to be doing better. My daughter almost had to have skin graphs, but ended up not having to thank goodness.

Cara My hand also got burnt last year 27th dec, same Dr scraped all of my skin off with scissors. It's been a year and my hand still has no color. It was recovery of more than a month. Nurses usually changes dressing very fast so it hurts so I changed my dressing at home with Saline water slowly slowly as The dressing gets stuck with the new coming skin. It hurts very badly and is the worst that can happen to anyone. Keep her happy and content, but as I was adult I use to think about I am not pretty anymore and was depressed until my whole skin was healed. It's a long process I hope she gets okay soon.
Wren is a real trooper. I am sooo sorry she had to go through that experience. Her healing will be quicker than we think. She has the healing power of pink the bandage and lots of LOVE to carry her through. 💖💝💘💞💓💕💗

Cara, do not feel bad. When we gave birth to them, they did not come with instructions. My sister has two boys. When she came home from the grocery, they always came out to help take groceries in. The oldest boy reached down and grabbed her muffler. His palm of his hand immediately started to blister. She rushed him in the house and put his hand in the sink, running cold water and she added ice to it. I do not recall what degree he sustained but it was scary. As a parent we can expect anything but all we can do is our best. You are a great Mom, so do not feel bad. Accidents happen and that is why we call them accidents..merry Christmas Chatwins’ family.
My daughter had a similar burn injury. For two months she had to have old skin removed and new dressings. This is done so new skin can grow. Otherwise they have to do a skin graft! Wren get better soon!!🥰💖🎄🙏

Cara, just want to let you know that you are such a trooper. Such a great mom and wife. Do t know how you do it. I’ve watched everyone of your videos and your temperament is always so sweet. Even in labor with Asher! We could all learn something from you and your husband. I think having children later in life, instead of in your teens, makes you a better mother. Thanks for being a good example.

Wow poor Wren ☹️. I want to give you some hope cuz when I was 19 yrs old I had scalding hot water poured on my arm which gave me 3rd degree burn but I healed without any sign of EVER BEING BURNED!!! They told me @ the hospital ER that I would have a permanent scar BUT THEY WERE WRONG!!! I've had several bad sunburns on my arm over the years after days @ the beach but where I had been burned years ago you can't even tell that had ever happened 😁. So please have hope for Wren's hand to heal up just fine. I'm praying for Wren as she is on the healing process 🙏. Love how all the kids are so caring & loving towards each other 💕. Can't ask for a better way to heal than the loving bond of siblings & parents ❤️. Glad to see that you are feeling a little better Darik 😊. Poor little Wren😭 I’m so glad she’s okay and she’s feeling better & just in time for Christmas!🤍 I went through something similar with my oldest but with a dog bite while she was with her dad. I cleaned it & she went to bed but woke up the next morning in pain because it got infected. The ER visit was one of the hardest things I’ve had to see as a parent & beat myself up for not taking her in sooner. I’m happy Wren is okay and you guys aren’t beating yourselves up for it! Now you guys are even more prepared! You guys are awesome parents ♥️

How ironic that literally happened to my daughter Sky she’s two years old and we were out camping in the summer and we were roasting marshmallows and when we turned around for one second she tried to roast a marshmallow when we weren’t looking and got a third-degree burn on top of her left hand. I used vitamin e oil after it healed and the scar is pretty much gone. It’s been about 5 months. She’s so strong for not worrying about it 💗
