Kennan's section getting into his m5 service costs feels more like an intervention than a segment lol
As much as he touts his M5 as an “icon,” there’s something absurd about those maintenance and upkeep costs associated with his particular ownership.

Doug, next time you do a remote podcast set your phone on the counter put on the voice recorder and record a copy of your audio there and then send it to the editor and you’ll have much better sound

I love the E39 M5. A THOUSAND DOLLARS PER MONTH is absolutely bananas.
The production quality on this one is about a 5 out of 10. What's up with the lag & mismatched audio in studio?
This was most likely recorded and uploaded through Doug's laptop, which is in a different state from the studio. And this is a podcast about talking about cars, video quality is barely relevant. You want high production quality car content, go watch Top Gear

Some of the specs are drop dead gorgeous
The only one i find beautiful is the blue exposed carbon one with black carbon accents. Its gold wheels are meh though.

15:37 This client order the Huayra instead of the Utopia for simple reasons Taste & 1-off the kind hypercar : The manual transmission, The Gullwing door and no glass cover for the headlight on the Huayra. Good choice ! (Except the color).

Doug has a good point. The BMw M5 is a fast sedan but it is going to come up short against fast EV sedans. Either BMW come up with a dedicated EV platform for the M5 or they give up on the arms race and make a slower more fun BMW M5 with a V8.
And those fast EV sedans are also lighter than the new M5. Even BMW's own fully electric i5 M60 is 130 kg lighter than the new M5. I genuinely have no idea how they made it so heavy.
He could be driving a Tesla Model 3 Performance for 500 a month

I really like Kenan. I also really appreciate his love for his car, and with that, his drive to keep it going (and in great condition). BUT… BUT… I’m sorry K-dawg… You’re spending $20,000/year on this thing… That could be $1600/month on a dream car. That could be buying another cool enthusiast car every year. That’s more than I spend on maintaining my 18 year old Ferrari. SERIOUSLY. And that’s had convertible parts rebuilt, engine work done, etc. If Kennan is a millionaire and this car is just so sentimental to him, than fine… Go for it. But at some point, this is just silly… And it sounds like the silliness started around 50,000 miles ago. I mean, kudos for doing it… but yeah… wild.

As a 135i convertible owner; it handles incredibly well. Just be careful, all e82 and e88 have an open differential except the 1m.

@quintonulm2435 if you have never owned a bmw. Look for oil leaks!!! If you can't diy a bmw it's not cheap. Good luck on the search my man 🫡
Saying that the 02 Galant is a non-carguy car is offensive. I have a heavily modified 3.0 AWD manual one and it's a beast. There were sport packages from the factory, it was a 5 series competitor!

What do you fellows think about the new regulations in Europe that requires all cars sold from July to have speed limiters in them that read signs, and/or rely on GPS, to prevent exceeding the posted speed limits ?

As someone who owns several high mileage cars that I may spend too much on fixing: just fix what it needs and makes it enjoyable to drive, and reliable. Replacing all 4 fender liners on an old BMW because they’re imperfect is just pissing money away. It’s never going to be new again. Let it age gracefully.
... and I love your enthusiasm and loyalty to your M5. It's like your women. Just because she falls apart doesn't mean you swap her out! The journey is better with what you have than always looking for something better.

The CDK issue has been resolved by the time this aired. My dealership was affected and as you mentioned they wrote things down on paper. I bet CDK invests heavily in IT enhancements and cyber insurance moving forward.

The past ones have a lot of genuinely hilarious moments. The contrast between Kennan and Filipo, and Doug being the bridge between really solidifies the fun in the podcast. Way better than some podcasts where all the hosts have the same opinions

I work on a distribution centre in Germany. We have more than 12K cars on the property and we had no problems with our distribution system for the US dealer markets.
I remember when brand new C7's (Stick with the Z51 package) had massive incentives and could be had for $48,000...

44:00 I owned a 2011 135i. It was an amazing car on paper but a maintenance nightmare. The engine ended up blowing up due to rod bearing failure at 88,000 miles.
Also, the rear end of the car always felt like it needed a little bit of modification. Maybe an LSD
I would not recommend this car to anyone. A 128i is a much better idea. after the engine blew up, I didn’t even want to fix it because I just thought about the new engines failures. I spent every other weekend underneath the car.
Get a Porsche Boxster 987 instead you will be much happier, especially if you like working on cars once in a while

The new M5 weighs more than a Tesla Model S. I’m not sure how they managed to add that much weight to a 5 series…
When it comes to choosing the best Ferraris I always say there's two classes best classic Ferrari and then the best modern Ferrari
The Aspark Owl replica in the roundabout is there because the carbon chassis is made by Ars Tech, a small company near the roundabout
Sometimes Doug isn't that far off base. I worked at GM from 2014-2018. I took a tour of the plant in Plano, TX. It looks modern, but in some cases some of the Bosch controllers on the line were so old that Bosch didn't support them anymore. Some of them were over 15 years old.
Kennan’s M5 service bill makes me glad I drive an 8 year old Mazda hatchback
Kennan is spending almost the same money on plastic fender liners as I did for my entire '03 Lexus ES....

Iowa is about 310 miles, so you can get through it in about 4 hours (5 if you stop in Des Moines to grab lunch at High Life Lounge, as one should).

I love the E34 M5, the later had the 3.8 in it. when I see a E34 or E38 those are some of the most beautiful BMWs ever. I did see a E60 M5 that looked awesome. wouldn't mind having one with a LS3
I live in Northern Virginia, which is heaven for large SUV's driven by Moms for all 4 kids to all of their sports. Heaven for them. And I just saw my first new Sequoia until yesterday. And it was white like Dougs....
