Nailed it!! No question about that! They dove in like two otters in the wild coming across a new stream. No hesitation, nuttin! 😊
I’m impressed by how much you got in there!! I had said before I was unaware how mu😂ch the sand mattered. Otters here use the sand, but are more inclined to use the grass, and snow of course in winter, haha.. they do spend a lot of time on their fur! Here they are very few and far between because the pressures decades ago left them almost wiped out. They have returned, but lost so much habitat. Fishermen often harass them thinking they take the best fish, but more often than not, especially in the rivers, they were eating suckers! Easier to catch, don’t bite back, taste great to the otters. In the heat of summer I would see more walleye or trout depending on the streams. Trout slow down a lot in the summer and are likely a treat. They don’t decimate the trout though. Walleye are the smaller ones as the big ones can hurt the otters. It’s a win/win for all of us in the wild! Might be fun to throw some fish in the pond occasionally for the otters to hunt & eat. Not sure if that’s feasible, but maybe.
It might have started off as Team Otter vs Team Bear, but in the end, Team Busch Wildlife was the winner! I have been to their old site many times. I was able to see many of the improvements they made there, one being to get their gator moved from the concrete bowl it had called home for far too long, to the lush natural enclosure around the corner was really amazing. Now I get to look forward to visiting the new place after a couple of my favorite pond builders put in two gorgeous features for the animals, keepers and guests to enjoy. By November, when we're down there again, it should be well on its way. Especially if Kenan's projects are any kind of example. Plant a seed and get a jungle 15 minutes later! 😂

Being that this is a great animal sanctuary and this project is for the animals was this project done as a generous charity at least the labour ??? That would be a really amazing generous gesture especially when it is being done for the greater good of nature 🙂 What have been created is an incredible project of great imagination and dedicated team building of collective hard work for the very appreciative animals 🙂

Cement the edges then cover it with dirt. Those otters are going to get to the liner
We used concrete cloth in the beach area and buried the liner deep!
