When I was 15 I did a reimagining of the cover for Animal Farm and Ralph Steadman was a huge inspiration to me. Weirdly enough, the year before that I did a huge portrait of my father in the style of Francis Bacon. It seems we have a really similar taste in art folk and that's so cool. I tend to do a lot of meticulous, cutesy, cartoony drawings but when I let myself go and do big messy pieces in black, that's the stuff my tutors tend to like the most. I think I often feel that I should have one style when in reality I actually have about 3 or 4 drawings styles that are all COMPLETELY different. This was so ace dude. I could watch you all day!
No way!! Do you still have them? I'd love to see your darker stuff! I've still got Steadman's version of Animal Farm, I actually looked through it again for this video!
Love it!! I don't comment on things that frequently, but just wanted to say that I love both your art and your videos- they always bring a smile to my face :)
Absolutely love his work! What a great tutorial on how easy, carefree and fun it is to just let loose and make something happen out of a big splatter of ink. It's as if you hastily knocked over the ink bottle and decided not to waste it. I love Ralph Steadman and had no idea who influenced him. Thanks for that tip bit of info. I will go off and check that artist out. I can't wait to try this out! I'll have to Dexter out my kitchen with plastic or something. Too many of these types of tutorials you might need to do the same to keep your camera safe! Thank you. I'm saving this video. Subscribing and liking.
Garesh? Goresh? Gureche? What are you saying! This is fantastic. I came here looking for some help bc what I'm working on is crap right now. And whatever goreche is might be a big help
Thanks! It's Winsor & Newton, but the key is the waterproof Indian Ink, which is the same brand. They have one that runs when wet and one that doesn't!
Hi Guy, I love this--Steadman is my favorite artist and I watched this several times. But I have to ask, what is best to use for the splatter technique?? Is that acrylic paint? Black ink?
Thank you Tommy! It's a mix of black india ink and watercolour. Waterier the better, but if you're using water be careful that the paper isnt tilted or it'll naturally run. Thicker acrylic paint is doable too but might give blobby results or close-knit raised domes!

I haven't painted in ages but this seems like a fun way to start.
I liked how out of my hands it felt!
P.s.s
One of my favourite artists is Hopper. I just adore the scenes he creates and how he presents people in his work.
OOH. A challenge, but maybe I'll give it a go!
so so cool
Excuse the extra cameraman hiding under the blue sheet.
Guy Larsen what paper is best for adding watercolours over ink drawings? Thanks
GOD that fish is SOOOOOO COOL!!!! So are you dude. Subscribed. Thank you!
Such fun! ~ Even as a non-painter, I think I could make some Steadman art easily. Thanks for the tutorial!
It's way more difficult than it looks....
Awesome. A revelation!
Great video. Thanks for posting. Would you ever do a video of francis bacons 3 studies? So few bacon tutorials online.
I'd like to see what you can do with David Firth's style. Not his animation but some of his visual art. It's very unique and distinctive.
Oh dear. I fear another hobby coming on. Great videos. Thanks for this.
Good! Keep it up!
Also- gouache is my favourite ever material to work in. I am a slut for gouache.

I'd love to see your take on Margaret Keane's work!
Great job man. Was that watercolor you used directly after the ink? I was surprised to see it didn't make the ink run.

Thanks Guy. Much appreciated. Was looking for a new project during this creepy time when I came across your video. We'll see how it goes.
Whats a dry brush?
I came here, watched a video, immediately went to subscribers and join the millions of- wait, what?
Double take doesn't cut it
Ha, very kind! Thanks for following!
My pleasure :)
Damn I legitimately thought he did it all by hand 💀
What type of pen do you use to draw?
Guy Larsen thank you
Remember - White is light.
At first glance I thought this was a ninja warrior of some sort
Ha, I don't see it! I wonder what a psychologist would say about our different readings of it!
Guy Larsen the thumbnail looked like a angry doodled ninja with a red cape to me... I guess it's like the Rorschach test since both are inksplatters
Uh...Sure
tamara de lempicka
total rip off of Gerald Scarf style
