Looking the part Dave. Really good to see the depot area coming together and looking as good as I knew it would. Don't worry, you can certainly see the work that has gone into the section. Top notch!
It's amazing what a difference it makes, layering up all those techniques, a lesson in patience. That whole area is now looking so much better thus far and so much more to come. Looking forward to seeing all the fine detail go in, again a testimony to all the effort put in. Top job.
Who’s been a busy boy then, as usual, a brilliant video with good detailed camera work. I do admire your attention to detail, don't think I've got the patients. Keep up the good work.
You have a great layout Dave, and yes all the time and effort is well worth it. Keep up the good work and thank you for keeping us so entertained and informed and most of all educated on the techniques you use.
"Driven by Detail" is certainly an apt tagline for your layout Dave - I always enjoy your attention to detail! I'd say the results are most definitely worthy of the time and effort you've put into this scene to date. And yes, it is obvious, that you've spent a good bit of time, effort and thought working on the depot. Enjoying the progress! Best, John
It's coming on really nicely now Dave. Ballasting and weathering really changes the look completely. One small thing... I was surprised to see you mention you've got point motors in the depot area. Looking at photos of Haymarket, the points are controlled by hand levers (even today). Fortunately, point levers can be fabricated by bending a paperclip and mounting it in a plasticard deck.
In fairness, the trains that run through Haymarket aren't DCC controlled so where do you draw the line in being prototypical? Modeller's licence has to be used on every layout I think, especially here otherwise Dave will be running himself ragged run from one side of the loft where his control station is to the other just to change the points there - and had he not mentioned the motors and told you they were controlled by the hand levers he's put in, you would be none the wiser :-)
@@PaulDovener I think you misunderstood what I mean. :) I'm not talking about the 'working' point motors under the baseboards, I'm talking about the 'cosmetic' ones that are scenic items. If you pause the video at 1:00, you'll see a cosmetic point motor on the left next to the office, and on the right next to the shed. These are more likely to be point levers with a white arm that is pulled to change the point. Here's an example at the bottom of the pic below the right-hand 47. www.flickr.com/photos/walterburt/48026275342/
UK Diesel and Electric Railway Modelling Thanks :-) I deliberated about what to do with the turnouts entering the depot. I decided that since the entrance was also semi part of a branch from the mainline that the first one should be automated with motors. Then since there were two more in succession I made these the same. The ones within the depot are all hand operated. Cheers.
@@DeanPark There's no problem with the one entering the depot to be powered by the local power-signal-box, but once on the depot, they'd be levers. Of course that doesn't change anything about how great it's looking compared to bare wood and track! :^)

Well worth putting the time in The depot looks a lot better for it. Always best working from photos and observing the real thing. Hi Dave, great update. Got a question though. How large is your tmd section and where did you get the single line through engine shed from? Thinking of doing a tmd layout similar to yours :)
Amazing work. Thank you for sharing this video. May I ask what air brush you are using and do you use one for water based paint and a second for other types of paint?
DaveClass47 thank you. Many years ago I had to retouch photographs and my employer insisted that we use one airbrush for black and white and a second for colour. We used only water base pigments and cleaned after each use. I guess equipment has improved over time.
I worked as train crew on BR in the 80's and went to many loco depots and never saw vegetation, they were too dirty and toxic for anything to grow, also in those days the Pway used a very strong weed killer (certainly not allowed today), this is just a point of info from my days, no criticism intended.
kurwayork hi, no that was very helpful. I’ll not be adding vegetation in the depot.. but may... just may have some weeds in that wide area at entrance of depot. Cheers. Dave
I'm sure it's been asked before, but what will you do if you have to move house at any point in the future after all the amazing work you've done and thousands of hours you've put in? Not to mention the money you've spent on it!!!!! - it wouldn't surprise me if it's all worth more than your house now, I hope it's all insured separately...
Paul D Hi. I do not intend moving. This is the family home now. You only need to insure individual items that are if a value of over £1000 or thereabouts. It’s just insured as part of the contents. Thanks.
@@DeanPark We've had to insure our items separately if anything is worth over a certain amount such as all the trains - however, I'm pretty certain they would only cover me for our baseboard, and not the hundreds of hours I've sat in there pretending to work on the layout as opposed to sat there playing trains and drinking beer/wine instead. I was going to suggest you make photos to prove all the money you've put into the layout which should reflect it's true value if you were to (unlikely have to) dismantle it and sell it, but then realised where I am writing this comment :-D My major concern is if you were to have a house fire or theft/vandalism - pretty sure Rod Stewart would step in and offer a few Scottish quid should the worst ever happen (which I have to say was very good of him for that train expo that got trashed recently) :-) Haha, now there's an idea, see if you can get Rod Stewart round to Dean Park, pretty sure he would love it same like the rest of us!!!!!!!!

Looks great in the depot. Do you mask the signal sensors before spraying the rails/sleepers?
Phil Parrish yes. Pop a bit of blue tac over them!
@@DeanPark Thanks. That's what I thought of too.
Looking fantastic the grime on the track looks amazing. Need to get
Myself some of them point leavers. Who did you say manufactured them?
March West Junction TMD Hi, thanks. Dart castings make them.

Thanks David
I worked as train crew on BR in the 80's and went to many loco depots and never saw vegetation, they were too dirty and toxic for anything to grow, also in those days the Pway used a very strong weed killer (certainly not allowed today), this is just a point of info from my days, no criticism intended.
kurwayork hi, no that was very helpful. I’ll not be adding vegetation in the depot.. but may... just may have some weeds in that wide area at entrance of depot. Cheers. Dave
Well done it looks very good You put me to shame I should get on with my layout . But thses things dont take 5 minets
I was going to suggest you make photos to prove all the money you've put into the layout which should reflect it's true value if you were to (unlikely have to) dismantle it and sell it, but then realised where I am writing this comment :-D
My major concern is if you were to have a house fire or theft/vandalism - pretty sure Rod Stewart would step in and offer a few Scottish quid should the worst ever happen (which I have to say was very good of him for that train expo that got trashed recently) :-)
Haha, now there's an idea, see if you can get Rod Stewart round to Dean Park, pretty sure he would love it same like the rest of us!!!!!!!!
amazing work, needs some trackside graffiti and buddleia invading for true UK feels?
i come from Kennoway in Fife
