Sad Fact: If you do the Recycling sub story, you can fight in the real world and your party can receive all emotions except Sunny, he can feel Sad and Angry, but isn't affected by Happy, he's so guilt ridden that he refuses to feel happy.
Even sadder fact: In the flashbacks where you can move around and inspect stuff in order to repair the violin, you notice that Sunny speaks in the first person, as himself, but after 4 years of self isolation and seeing himself as the Omori, he talks in the way the Omori does, the third person
he also has no tier 2 emotions, rivaling the fact omori is the only one to have tier 3 emotions, it's like omori is the manifestation of everything sunny isn't

Omori is truly a game that changes you. When you finish the game, it leaves you with some sort of emptiness inside. it makes you want the ending to change, it wants you to have Mari back, It wants you have all the characters back together and happy for once but it doesn't. It leaves you with either Sunny killing himself and him admitting the truth to the others about how Mari was killed. It doesn't show their expressions or reactions, only Basil's which he is happy due to the guilt of covering up the death has finally been lifted. Who knows if we will get Omori 2 (probably not) but we will never know about the gangs reactions to this information and that's what makes Omori so special. That its about "our" acceptance of death, we at the end of the game may not accept this as an ending but overtime we will. It makes us grieve as well, almost as if we knew Mari personally and we did because we played as one of the people she truly loved the most, Sunny. We are Sunny and just like him, we have to learn to accept what happened, to accept that Mari is gone but not matter what happens, she will continue to be there in our minds, the memories, the good times that happened when she was here.

Poor fucking sunny man. It's so impactful how his and his friend's lives changed completely by just a simple argument between a little brother and his sister. Repressing feelings and encapsulating himself in a fabricated perfect reality just so he can avoid the truth and the pain is so damn heartbreaking, specially knowing he was just a child with a bright future ahead (not saying he doesn't have one at the end of the game, specially after the secret post-credit scene). But it's so beautiful how in the end he forgives himself, hugging omori, accepting his past mistakes, and moving on, cause that's what Mari would've wanted. I've seriously never been impacted in such a deep way by a videogame, and I'll surely keep this game close to my heart
Took the words right off my mouth, my dude. Also, I recognized your profile picture coming from the only thing that devastated me more than Omori, and it's none other than Goodnight Punpun. Omori is no doubt a tragic story, but since the main characters are children it still has that charm of forgiveness, hope and redemption coming form your friends. Omori is sad and yet still hopeful in the end (if we're talking about the true ending), Goodnight Punpun however is tragic through and through because it's within an adult perspective. When you're an adult, you can't just pinpoint your sadness and tragedy on one single thing or event unlike Omori. Omori shows us how loving and forgiving children can truly be no matter how terrible you are as a person, Goodnight Punpun shows us just how heart-wrenching adult sadness can truly become and no amount of reminiscing about the "good old times" of your childhood can fix that. It just leads you to commiting suicide just so you can be finally "happy." In simpler terms, Omori represents childhood trauma, while Goodnight Punpun represents adult mental scars. Omori represents the wounds that can be healed over time, Goodnight Punpun represents the physical/mental injuries that stays with you forever. As much I truly love Omori for its story, Goodnight Punpun made me bawl my eyes out more than the latter. It means I can relate more with Goodnight Punpun than Omori, because I'm not a child anymore.
@@Starry_Wave this is such a great analysis for a comment that not many people will see. Punpun didn't have particularly no one to rely on while growing up, family nor friends, leaving his scars to dig deeper and deeper till he could no longer recognize what they were. He could only cling into that idealized version of aiko, portraying her as some kind of thing that would instantly make things better. In the end though, things didn't play out as he thought they would. Aiko probably did something pretty similar, wanting someone who could just forget about himself and give up everything just for her, again, cause she never had anyone to rely on while growing up, and of course having a mom in a cult. They reunited at their worst, which made things go in a downward spiral of despair and toxicity. Punpun's ending is a bittersweet ending, but it kind of ends on a hopeful note, with him ending up with sachi and having good people around him who can help and support him with his scarred psyche.
Now, going back to omori, i couldn't agree more about it being about childhood trauma, but thank God sunny had some really great friends on his side, and he wasn't completely alone (after those 4 years of isolation of course, which probably were very excruciating and horrible) and we can see how he forgives himself and tries to find a way to liberate himself from his past mistakes and move on. We never saw punpun doing that. Maybe he will eventually forgive himself, but things are a bit more complex when you can't really find an origin for all of your problems, unlike sunny (btw, this all sounds like I'm minimizing sunny's suffering, which I'm not. Poor kid).
My conclusion; I don't know, I just wanted to share some thoughts. It was cool
@@sir.santiago5922 Excellent analysis, it's pretty much how I viewed the manga and Punpun as a character. Here are my last thoughts about all of this. Sunny was still a child so it meant he could still save himself from suicide. As the game shows us in the true ending, suicide was merely presented as a *choice* for Sunny to do. Meanwhile suicide is presented as an *ultimatum* for Punpun. As bleak and depressing as the manga became, suicide was the only way Punpun could have ever liberated himself. It makes a lot of sense because suicide through the minds of a child like Sunny, it can only bring sadness to his friends. Punpun's suicide on the other hand represented a very cruel reality that no one was there for him in the end. Suicide was Punpun's liberation, in this sense. It at least gave him the one chance he might have always wanted, being born as a child again.
@@Starry_Wave Adding to that I think Punpun's struggles all stemmed from multiple negative things in his life (for example his parents divorcing) which were all basically entirely out of his control. In contrast Omori experienced only one action which, although he could not entirely fix, he could mend by being honest about what happened with Mari. I think both stories also show the importance of letting go and moving on as seen by Punpun's inability to let go of his idealized version of Aiko and Sunny's inability to progress past Mari's death. Fortunately, Sunny had great friends and childhood memories which kept him with even the smallest sliver of hope and gave him something to push for, where Punpun really didn't have those amazing people (realistically most people don't), having all his childhood friends split off. Despite that Punpun is still saved by someone who motivates him, namely Sachi, and although she's very flawed, she still pushed Punpun forward and cares for him. There's this amazing analysis of Punpun some guy wrote that makes perfect sense and is multiple pages long. Really glad to see these two fandoms colliding tho. Punpun and Omori are two of my favorite stories. I actually found both of them through Bo en's - My Time. The Punpun amv then led me to the omori trailer and I ended up discovering both of these in the same day haha

if Aubrey had not lost the shoe she would never have met Sunny and the others and would not have led Basil to make friends with them. It was Basil's idea to give the violin to Sunny for Christmas, so if Aubrey hadn't introduced Basil to the others Mari would probably still be alive and everything would be fine.

There are so many small factors that could have prevented the incident. Sunny deciding not to throw the violin or push Mari, Mari being less harsh on Sunny, if they were on the first floor Mari would have been fine, Mari surviving the fall, Basil coming to visit just a bit earlier before Sunny had pushed Mari or thrown his violin down the stairs, etc. Ultimately what's done is done and the best thing that Sunny and his friends can do now is make efforts to move on.

How is this a miserable ending though?
After all this time, all of the pain, suffering, trauma, and guilt that Sunny has gone through, he finally learned to forgive himself and leave his life as a hikikomori shut-in behind. Rather than create a happy life in his head where Mari lived and nothing ever happened and everyone's having fun, Sunny recounted his entire life, actively recognized himself and reality in the process, and finally forgave himself for her death.
Rather than waking up in white space, Sunny ends his dreams after waking up in that fateful hospital.
We have an idea, but we don't know how everyone will react to the truth coming out. But now that's not just a possibility, but an inevitability. Regardless of the outcome of the truth, him and Basil finally learned to let go.

Yeah, that moment is what got the tear ducts to finally open up, and then when they went right to the scene where they were standing on the stage, and I saw Sunny's face at 1:48, as he was trying to catch a glimpse of Mari, the tears finally trickled out some.
This scene for me is the acceptance of Mari's death. It made me realize: "Sunny is going to tell the others, and they might even forgive and understand him. However what it doesn't change, and cannot change, is the fact that Mari is dead. Mari is dead and no one can do anything about it. That last scene where Mari lies in the coffin with flowers, is basically: "You can rest now, we all love you but we have to move on."
Not to mention she is surrounded by the same flowers Basil’s grandmother had before she died. “My thoughts will follow you into your dreams.” Amazing symbolism.

I noticed that this song is actually like a representation of Sunny and Mari’s lives. It starts with only the piano, likely because Mari is the older sibling and Sunny wasn’t born yet. Then, after he is, the majority of the song is played with the piano and violin together, and Sunny and Mari spent most of their childhood’s together, never separated. But at the very end of the song, the only instrument that can be heard is the violin, obviously because Sunny accidentally killed Mari, and now he’s an only child. He’ll never see his sister again. Yet it’s this song that plays during the good end of the game, where Sunny lets go of his guilt and learns to forgive himself. The piano doesn’t disappear just because Mari died. It disappears because Sunny learns to let go of his trauma and let Mari move on

the part of this game that really hits me in the gut is this: we see mari perceived as a perfectionist, yet she's this pretty and kind older sister to sunny. and in the end, we never even got to meet her. we only see her through memories and dreams.. and none of it is real. thats what really hurts me about the fact that she died. we never met her, nor ever will. she's dead. she's been dead for four years and even sunny and his friends cant accept that despite having met her. no one will ever meet her because she died when she was only around sunny's age. yet the game still manages to portray perfectly how much she meant to everyone, and how big of an impact her death had on the group, especially sunny.
I agree. We never really fathom that we never talk to Mari once in the real world in the entire game. Only through flashbacks and the dream world. But because she's always talked about and we see all these flashbacks and memories of her, it really feel like she is alive and is there. And I think that's a big takeaway from the game. She's gone, but the thoughts and memories of her are kept close to everyone at all times, and still mend the friend group's bond. In the dream world, Sunny put away every memory about Mari, even the good ones. So when he finally remembered to enjoy those happy memories of her when you go down Memory Lane, we realize that there was happy moments with her, apart from the obvious tragic one. She's always with us, so all we can do at that point is to remember the happiness, own up to our guilt, and yearn for more. Happy memories were made with her, if we break away from our suppression, even better memories can be made now with her in our minds.

Scene at 1:30 actually disintegrated my emotional structure, it really showed the true loneliness and despair Sunny feels knowing that Mari would’ve done anything for him, and knowing that what he did will never make up for what he lost

The couple of scenes after that are my favorite with Sunny finally playing the song with Mari and then Sunny watches her enter a window to Heaven. Just every detail like Mari's face not being visible implying that Sunny is playing with a ghost, the fact that they're likely playing on the stage they would have played on if things never went wrong, Sunny's slightly nervous but focused face when he looks at her. Just a perfect symbol of closure and acceptance.

Just over a year ago, I lost my older sister in a fatal car accident involving a drunk driver. We were extremely close and I miss her every day. Recently, I was scrolling through youtube and this song appeared in my feed. The comments told me the name of the game, and solely based off that song and picture I decided to give Omori a try. When it's revealed that Mari is your sister, I became hooked. As pathetic as it may sound, I needed to experience that hug in the game. I stopped at every picnic and exhausted every dialogue I could with her. I finished it in less than a week. Throughout the game, I related to Sunny/Omori. Many times did I think back to my experiences in losing my older sister, and the feelings I had or lack thereof. Prior to recent therapy, I hated myself as well, and refused to forgive myself on many of the things that I have done in my life. Coincidently, my sister gifted me a violin before her passing, which was another reason the song was so fascinating. Inputting my real name made some segments especially difficult. When the ghost of your dead older sister comes back to say "I love you \[name\]" it hits. A lot of the events of the game I related to my real life and many parts just felt like I was reliving the last year. I sympathized with Sunny and thought that his feelings were just depression and grief from the loss of a loved one.
When it is revealed that you actually killed her, then staged her suicide... I was very angry. I paused the game and just sat there for a few minutes considering what my feelings were towards Sunny. Part of me wanted to just turn it off and never give him the satisfaction of an ending. Another part hoped that there was an ending that involved his suicide or imprisonment. I thought "You took a wonderful girl from the lives of so many people. And then lied to everyone, allowing them to blame themselves for years. You are a terrible person who doesn't deserve to be happy." When Basil teases Sunny for having a crush on Aubrey, I thought "You don't deserve to love someone, or to have a normal life." Naturally this hate was mostly fueled by the negative emotions I have regarding the man who killed my sister, who is still alive but in prison.
When given the choice to save basil or not, I considered just letting him be miserable and going back to sleep. After a couple minutes deciding if I should or shouldn't save him, I went with my gut and got the good ending. It was really interesting playing the final boss fight against Omori because he is saying everything that I was thinking. "She loved you but you killed her. Hero loved her but you killed her. You don't deserve the right to live. You should just die." All are thoughts that I had previous to the confrontation. I almost refused to use "calm down" and other skills because I felt he didn't deserve to be mentally healthy. After things settled down and the credits rolled, I calmed down and processed everything that happened in the last hour.
He was just a kid. He did not want to kill her. After doing so, him and Basil were both bombarded by emotions, and made a stupid decision in their adrenaline filled meltdown. I had countless fights with my sister, many being in more dangerous situations than at the top of some stairs. I am lucky that none ended in one of us getting injured or worse. The guilt of their actions destroyed both of them. Sunny didn't leave his house for years. Basil was clearly unstable the entire game. Both of them are at the brink of suicide, seeing as multiple endings lead to their deaths.
So after much thought, I believe that they are worthy of forgiveness and happiness. Just some kids doing some shitty things in a shitty situation, and feeling shitty afterwards. Their friends and family get to decide what kind of relationship they each want with Sunny and Basil. I believe that Kel, Hero, and Aubrey will reach the same conclusion as me, and can learn to continue to be friends and even grow closer without the guilt of the past weighing on them. This was an incredible game about learning to forgive yourself and allowing yourself to grow, feel, and move on. It struck many many chords with me, and my emotions are in shreds. This game brought back many many memories, about 1/3 of them being pleasant. One of the most powerful, helpful, and impactful stories ever. I love each character and I am incredibly happy that Sunny gets to have a fresh start wherever he moves to, and will always have his friends to help and support him.

You know what makes me cry the most?
It's the fact that the piano doesn't start up from a sad, mournful tune. It starts with a happy, almost childish melody that feels...pure, in a way. It makes you feel nostalgic, full of joy and and like you're watching them both grow up (even without watching the video/only listening to the audio).
I kinda interpret this as Mari showing her brother that, even in death and after *he killed* her, she's not sad, nor is she mad at him/holding a grudge against Sunny.
She's just...happy to be able to play the song she and Sunny once practiced day and night, for at least one last time.
To be honest, looking back on this moment I may have under thought it. Sure I sobbed a good bit, but reading that, it felt like a punch to chest there, like I didn’t take that into account at that moment it time. God dude, I love this game
Unfortunately I watched a video of youtubers reacting to this, so I spoiled myself and before that because people were mentioning that Mari died in other videos I already knew she was dead, but for not watching/playing the whole game to the finale I did not cry (which makes me sad, I want to forget this when I wake up and continue the game without knowing this) but I read this comment while listening to this and it hit me next to the heart (didn't cry or sob just felt the sadness) which made me a little bit happy because I atleast experienced what the song was supposed to do atleast a little bit

It's funny how different people cry for different reasons. I had started crying during the OMORI fight because Sunny's self-hatred hit a little too close to home (along with the score of the fight), but continued crying til the end over how in the span of one duet the game perfectly illustrated their lives and how much they meant to each other.
My friend, the younger brother of an older sister, said it reminded him of their relationship and the thought of losing her after everything they've been through led him to tears. I love how art can resonate through different people
Honestly the part in Omori that made me cry the most was the bad ending because to think that someone could just be overwhelmed so much by life that it’s their only option was really sad to me and even scared me because I wondered what if I ever get that bad. Then the thought of whether someone could feel relief or fear out of doing that also really got me sad.
I cried after the Omori fight (good ending) at the start of the final duet animation and kept crying until the end.
It's crazy how a Game can make people so emotional i just couldn't help myself thinking of what poor Sunny had to live throught

This is probably the first time I've seen an indie game that digs so deeply into the player's soul. This game breaks you down and makes you cry. You start to feel like the main character, you start to blame yourself for what is happening and you feel all the pain of the main character. This game is worthy of a much larger audience and, hopefully, it will find this audience.

right? like i watched a bunch of streamers play this game and I had a weird sense of satisfaction everytime what they said reflects what Sunny feels.
for example, a good portion of streamers said they wanted to be in headspace forever, while another portion wanted to get back into the real world to figure out the mysteries. Sunny could have been feeling either, or both.
Omori is a game that made me realize to what point my depression has come. in scenes like this where many people start to cry or have any emotional reaction, i barely can show any reaction. it made me notice how much my mental state has been broken by things like being depressed for over 5 years (i‘m 18), constant loneliness for a very long time, the lack of friends or any social interaction, being a heavy internet user (up to 10-12h a day) and slowly losing the hope for the life or any of those things to get better, resulting in losing the very will to live, knowing i always mess up when i actually do something.

I beat the game in the first week of January, in only four days. It's hard to think that it's been almost 4 months since then but I can't get that damn game out of my mind. Final Duet makes me tear up every single time. I don't cry that much nowadays but my heart feels so wrecked and it hurts. It's funny how such a game made us feel that way.
When the Kel scene at Mari's grave came, for the first time I fully realized how Mari's death affected everyone. Hero's grief, blaming himself for her "suicide", Aubrey's anger, thinking everyone abandoned her, Basil's been closing to himself more, and Kel, while seemingly fine, has gone through his brother's harsh year, Aubrey's new behaviour and lost two dear friends, had to put on a smile, not because he was happy but because he had to. He was Kel, and Kel is just Kel. It was the first time I cried at the game.
The second time was at "Do you want to have a picnic with Mari?" Then By your side played, slower, reminding us she wasn't there. But she also was, in some way. I was staring and sobbing at it for at least a good 15 minutes. Now, I am wondering how Sunny, back then, didn't just break out in tears and confess the truth.
And then.... Final Duet. Shit. I somehow managed to hold back. Only teared up. The real breakdown came after the whole truth, after Good Morning. The “thanks for watching” screen. The realization hit me. That's it. Nothing else. That's all. Cried a lot that day. Went to the bathroom to not make my family worry. My smartass self thought it would be okay to rewatch Duet that night. Haha. Hardly had any sleep.
Some weeks passed. Didn't stop thinking of Omori for a single day. Haven't opened the game at all either. I was too scared. But I decided to open it. The new screen melted me. Sunny being happy again, his eyes glowing. The title song (leitmotif of Duet T_T) being a whole more lively, birds chirping in the background. You probably picked it up by now, cried again.
That night I also watched Final Duet. But that's when I found a version with lyrics. They were obviously fan-made but I watched it. Holy hell, I almost cried as hard as the first time I watched the Duet. Didn't have any sleep either. Now, after many hearings, I realized that the saddest part of it is not only the story behind it, but the fact that it can apply to literally everything. It doesn't have to be about Omori. (The fact that it is tho makes it sadder)
I don't know why this game affected me so much. Maybe it's the fact that it gave us a taste of a friend group, being happy, spending time together, bonding, and then proceeded to take it away in such a forceful and cruel way.
My personal life isn't the best but it's not the worst. I'm not ‘happy’ happy, I'm not ‘sad’. I don't know. Some things make me feel like the world is great. Other things make me hate myself. Maybe that's life for me. I don't know. I do have friends, a friend group if I could call it. We're not even close to the bond they have.
I don't know why I wrote this. Nobody is gonna read it. It's gonna be buried in the sea of those comments. This one is not the most emotional one. Not the funniest. Not the most annoying one. It's just my thoughts. Not worth your time reading this. But if you have, thank you.

I love how the scariness of Mari's death is portrayed to us through literal, ingame horror. It kinda gives us the same feelings Sunny was going through and the desire to not uncover the truth due to its scariness. It also makes sense that the intensity of the horror sort of dies down in the middle of the story as the first and last steps of confronting her death are inevitably going to be the most difficult (compare how scary the stair battle is to the water battle and youll see what I mean)

There are so many tiny details in this cutscene the more you look into it. The colours of the flower pots Basil plants matches the colour of clothing each friend wears in the next shot, showing how he planted flowers representing each of his friends. He is always shown nearest to Sunny, signaling that they had a closer relationship to each other as compared to the rest of the group. They even both had a flower in their ear at one point, so it's like foreshadowing that they had a closer bond and shared much more with each other, even before they both started carrying the guilt of Mari's death on their backs. There's one shot where Sunny is sitting next to Aubrey on the swings, and I think that's supposed to symbolize how, out of everyone to Sunny, Aubrey changed the most after Mari's death and was the most affected by her death after him. They're sitting on swings, which match with the idea of hanging. Ropes, dangling with your feet off the floor etc. Then of course, the idea of windows being the gateway to the truth. When Sunny looks up to the window, he sees the room where his violin that started that entire mess was kept and then sees Mari lying surrounded by flowers, showing his acceptance that she has died because of that incident. That's the truth. Then there's the flowers. They're the same ones set by Basil's grandmother after she passes away, and they mean something very profound: I will be with you even in dreams. Which perfectly mimics how Something, which is Sunny's guilt over Mari's death, is always following him even in the Dream Scape. But it also signifies how the Mari herself in the Dream Scape is always there for Sunny. She is literally his save point, the place where he will reappear and continue, and try again. She has and will always love him, and will always be there with him.

Yeah sunny and basil were closer of course, that's why basil knew and believed sunny couldn't have done something so horrible, he believed some kind of force actually was behind sunny acting up, that's how much of good friends they were, even if it was an accident and basil ended up covering for sunny which was worse they still believed in their friendship, that's why basil felt betrayed after sunny stopped talking to him and everyone and later knowing he was leaving for good, he had done so much for him and almost ended up alone forever

I never understood why people consider this ending so depressing. Sunny comes to accept his trauma and finds peace within himself. He doesn't need to hide within white space and he can finally truly connect with people and find genuine happiness. It isn't going to be easy, no, but whatever path he takes, he can finally be true to himself. The reason I cry every time I think of this ending is because it helped me come to terms with my own trauma so I could finally find my own happiness.

Actually found out that one translation of “Omori” is “A Weight” and I think that fits nicely for what he’s supposed to resemble in Sunny’s mind. Omori is the weight of Sunny’s actions keeping him from moving forward in life, keeping him in the little world of his where everything was still ok, and eventually keeping him from coming to terms with reality in the bad ending and taking control to make Sunny kill himself. The weight is hostile and unforgiving when Sunny goes down the path to try and accept reality and forgive himself as Mari would want, the weight does everything it can to either hold Sunny back or end it all. And when Sunny perseveres and plays that final duet, Sunny comes to terms with the past and present, and the weight is lifted and accepting. Omori is only there as long as Sunny holds and represses the weight of Mari’s death.

You are your past after all. Your achievements and mistakes. Everything makes who you are now and trying to hide or run from your past is equal to running from yourself. If you can't live with your past you just can't live at all. It's a really tragic story but one that i'm sure hits the reality of many people, also teaching us that forgiving yourself is the only real way to move on and that having good relationships helps you when you most need it

@Naranja Socialista Thats how Sunny SAW himself. He saw himself as a monster for what he did; an emotionless, cruel monster. But in a way, i don't think Omori was necessarily selfish. I believe that Omori was originally 'created' with good intentions; to hide the trauma and put away the guilt. But the way he did that was, of course, harmful. Combined with the intrusive thoughts, Omori was a monster. But thats how Sunny believed he was for killing someone that not only he, but his closest friends, cared about.

a song that would be equal to final duet is "undertale", since it also tells a story (it starts happy and sorta energetic (when Asriel meets Chara), then it gets calm and sad (representing Chara's death), but still it doesn't end since the STORY does not end yet; the it's the peak, when the humans see Asriel and attack him and he refuses to fight, and the end, where he dies and turns into a flower)

I like how it starts with piano and ends with violin. Because I think that it shows how Mari was born first and that she died first, before Sunny. The violin was second born, ends with violin because whichever ending you choose, Sunny will always be the last to die. And the visuals, if you know the context, will make you cry, sob even, it shows what Sunny has gone through, how they all grew up together, how good of friends they all were up until Mari died and how much they all split apart. Like, in the very beginning, you see Sunny and Mari sitting at the piano, and then at the very end of it all, you see a lone piano, Sunny, nor Mari are there, I think that's saying that after everything that Sunny went through, he forgives himself and is allowing him to move on. Also, I love how intense the music gets nearing the end, in the beginning, it's so calm and heart-warming, near the middle it starts to get intense, and then, at the end, it gets so passionate and you can just FEEL the emotion put in to music without even knowing the context to the full story

i think that last image, the empty piano, is what hits the hardest.
no matter what sunny hopes, mari will never come back. she will never bake cookies, she'll never have picnics, and that piano will remain empty forever, because she's no longer there to fill it.
mari is gone. and only now is sunny finally beginning to accept that.
edit: also wanna note the last echo of the piano as sunny finishes the last few notes of the song. even though she's gone, her memory will stay with him throughout his life. she will always be his big sister.

2:00 I just realised the flowers that Mari was laying on were “White Egret Orchids” the same one from Basil’s grandmas room. The meaning of the flower is what’s important though.
Yeah, it mentions in the game that it’s means “my thoughts will follow you into your dreams” which is really fitting for it.

What's interesting is the game makes you think the flowers are referring to the giver's thoughts following the deceased into their dreams (aka eternal rest)
But it's the opposite for Sunny, Mari's thoughts followed him into Head Space.
This is the type of song that can make someone cry instantly, make someone softly cry, or make someone cry later in the night. No matter what, it’ll make you cry.

On the one hand I really want to believe Mari's ghost was watching over Sunny, forgave, and in the end gave him that tiny push of strength he needed to overcome Omori.
On the other hand, literally the whole point of the game is about facing and accepting the truth and not trying to hide away in a fantasy world where everything is fine, which is exactly what the first hand is doing.

This game really puts player in Sunny's shoes. I have no idea wtf is real or not. The first night when "Mari" was knocking the door, I truely had no idea Mari is dead and Sunny is hallucinating Hellmari. We will never know if the Mari that was playing the piano and tell Sunny she wishes Sunny will forgive himself one day is just him imagining things or not. And that's the saddest thing ever.

The thing that makes it hurt so much more is that there were so many things that could've prevented Mari's death. If she never hurt her ankle, if Sunny was never stressed by the task of the violin, if he never threw it down the stairs, if Mari and Sunny had a talk, and alot more. So many things could've prevented that, and life would be happier. The thought of the friend group still thriving on as teenagers and adults IS 100% possible, and you can even imagine the adventures they'd have in that time period, but instead, the timeline in the game is the rare case where Mari passes away..
I discovered this game in the last few days of January and yes I cried over it and felt an empty, dark feeling for the next month or 2 whenever I thought about it. It's still unbelievable that there's only a third of the year left to go since then.

Through most of this, Sunny has the “light” in his eyes, but it disappears when Mari dies and only returns after [SPOILERS] the true ending when he confesses.

Whenever I hear this song, no matter what shape, way or form, I always cry, even if I don't want to, even right now I'm crying
I love love love how you can just barely hear the unsteady hands all throut it, the way the bow is drawn sporadically at inconsistent speeds and pressures, the small slightly off beat notes, the way the fingers sometimes don't find their notes immediately but autocorrect a tiny moment later. Sunny was a novice after all, and he likely never heard his piece played perfectly, and remembers the faults well...

When you go from one string to another there's a certain way your supposed to do it to make it sound better and it he doesn't do that.

When Kousei played the piano on his final performance with Kaori, in spirit, right before she died. Them playing together in th sky and seeing him cry was so sad and heartbreaking. The final duet reminded me a lot because of the, same instruments, playing the instrument with someone closest to you who is dead, and the final time they'll be close together. Why the piano and violin combo always bring sadness? :(
That "will it reach her?" quote always gets me from Your Lie in April. Omori has been the most I've even been emotionally invested into a game. Their both just so good!

For those ones who say "its not a good ending", literally the goal of the game is forget about the mari's trauma.
With this scene, sunny remember literally everything about her and understand that she is not going to come back, and yes, was his fault.

I think Omori is a master at using contrast. A tragic story can't just be your characters having bad things happen all the time -- you need happy moments, to know what it is you're losing when things go wrong. Similarly, as a horror game, you can't have a game just filled to the brim with scares, or that becomes the norm. You have calm moments, normal moments. Then when something uncanny happens, like the music suddenly cuts out, it shocks you.
I love how OMORI's headspace "glitches out" at some parts. Like, if you look into the mirror twice in the bomb puzzle room, everyone will distort and becomes a kind of zombified, because, despite the comfortable interior of the headspace, OMORI is never truly safe there. He can never remove his memories, they are just hidden, in the same space, he uses as his coping mechanism. There are a ton of these and you'll never see them all on your first playthrough, so that's why I think it goes hand in hand with what you said. you have no idea when or what leads to jumpscares, you know mirrors sometimes cause it, but then again 90% of the time it's fine. Yet looking into the mirror is still completely optional, but of course, we as the player, still look. In the same way that sunny wants to reveal the truth to himself. I think it's neat
@@outlawthesecond7597 Even though mirror jumpscares are somewhat cliché, what I like about Omori's distorted face jumpscare, when looking repeatedly in the mirror in Headspace, is that it's somewhat based in reality. Especially in low-light conditions, people who stare into a mirror for a really long time might be see their faces distort -- it's pretty much *expected*.
Yeah that's really the key. I've never found a work of fiction that was able to impact me or others anywhere near the level of this indie game, and I think it's because it spends SO long building up the characters and taking you through whimsical adventures with them. The happy parts of the game are so bright and numerous. And then the real tragedy hits, and it hits like a truck. It's the basis of grief and nostalgia - the pain you feel when people die is proportionate to the time and happiness you had with them.

I started playing the violin when I was 10 y/o. I was pretty good at playing, and I liked it, but there was something wrong with the music school. Maybe I wasn’t in love enough with music to be as good as everyone was expecting of me to be, I had talent and they didn’t understand why I couldn’t put more effort and get better scores, so as the years passed by and everything got harder to study, I started to feel mediocre and not worthy of all the money, time and love my parents spent on me. We’ve never had much money, but they gave all they had for me to have a musical education. My teachers also thought that I should give more and more, my grades never were better than a B, so all this feelings started to overwhelm me. I thought many times of leaving it, but the feeling of guilty and thinking that all the people around me would be disappointed was eating me. There was a moment in my life where I just cried everytime I would go to class. All my teachers had seen me crying, some of them understood me, but the main problem was confronting my parents. For them music school was something essential that I should not leave.
Sometimes I thought about hurting my hand so I had not to play. Just opening the violin case made me feel dizzy, nausea and cry.
I felt like I was being ungrateful and exaggerated, but I couldn’t help but to feel that way. I hated that something I used to love felt like an obligation.
Suddenly I exploded. I told my mom how I was feeling (It takes me a lot to express my feelings), and after an argument and some days, they accepted it. I felt relieved and better, but I totally rejected my violin. I felt like if I played it, it would be to render to my parents, so I didn’t play for a year.
My brother followed Omori since almost the beggining, and when it finally came out, he played it and spent some days crying and playing the songs. I used to listen to him playing and fighting with Sweetheart.
He started to insist on me to play it, over and over again. I was having a bad era so I wasn’t in the mood of playing games, but he continued insisting because “it reminds me of our relationship”, he said (he plays the piano and is younger than me), so I accepted and we started playing.
At first It was just funny and cute, but as I played more and more, the story started to captivate me. I played with my brother by my side (👀) all the time, he was excited to see me play. The Truth was heartbreaking. All the time I felt like I was Sunny, so when the plotwist came, it hitted right in the spot. In my heart. I went trought all the grief stages, even hate. I didn’t believed it, it felt like a dream. When the final duet played we were fully silent, as he was expecting my reaction all this time. I cried a lot. I didn’t feel this heartbroken ever before. I finished it and wished the Truth were a lie, I wished It had never happened, but over all, I wished I could forget everything, every detail of the game so I could play it again and feel all this emotions one more time.
After that, my brother told me that he had the sheets for the final duet, and I didn’t even doubt it. I said we would play it together everytime he wanted, so for the first time in a year or more, I dusted off my violin and started to practice. No regrets, no fear, no guilty and not a single piece of resentment.
Now I’m picking up with te violin. I think I have more motivation to play than ever, all because Omori. I have “Good Morning” as my alarm ringtone because I cried too listening to that after the duet. It felt just like I felt at that moment. Omori has saved my mental health and my heart, it made me reconcile with my passion for the violin, and has made my life better, even if you think this would sound stupid or exaggerated for just a game. For me, ir is a masterpiece. Thank you for reading anyways, I just felt like I had to say this because I listen to this two times a day. It makes me cry everytime, but it’s okay. I like how this make me feel. It’s just not sadness, but hope.

Watching Sunny and Mari's sibling relationship hit me like a truck.
I see my older sister the same way Mari is depicted in relation to Sunny. She's an amazing sister -- protective, caring, and always there for you, even when it doesn't seem like it. She's so artistic and hardworking, too. And while -- thank goodness -- she's still here with us, I've always been terrified of losing her. Almost to an abnormal extent. A lot of my nightmares and bad thoughts are related to losing her or accidentally hurting her...and even though it's not real, that wave of guilt still rushes in.
Watching the truth unfold in-game tapped into that fear...I can't even begin to imagine how Sunny feels.
I'm going to make sure that I don't take a single moment with my sister for granted. I'm going to cherish every last second I get to spend with her.
Oh man, love her very much and give back all that she has given you, to be there for her too and not betray her. How lucky you are, at least in my case I have never had anything like it since my family is not very close, but it does not matter. Hopefully this game reaches more people and touches their hearts

I have a sister and right now I am the same age as Sunny and my sister is the same age as Mari when Mari died. After this game I am really cherishing her and loving her. Because of the similarities I have I can really feel how sunny would feel if my sister died because of me
My sister is 8 years older then me and when she moved out to start her adult life it was kinda traumatic for me. This game reminds me when I was 11 years old not seeing my big sister in my house anymore.
I mean, I think that's a really cynical way of looking at it. SUNNY made a mistake, killed MARI out of a pure accident, and tried to cover it up since, as a child, he wasn't sure what else to possibly do. It was a fatal mistake, it was wrong, but it was never out of malice or anger. SUNNY simply fucked up. That's why, personally, I think the ending (including the true ending cutscene afterwards) is the most effective. Everything leading up to this point is a substantial development to where SUNNY initially begun as, being the enclosed shut-in that he is, unable to accept the reality of what he has done. It's about putting the faith in his friends, it's about learning to accept your actions... And, as we can see, they're there (in his mind) to support him before he goes onstage and faces OMORI one final time. To me, the good ending is about having faith in those who are closest to you. Will they be able to forgive SUNNY? Who knows. It's why the ending is left open to us, because we decide whether or not such a horribly misguided action could be forgiven. Maybe it's just me being optimistic. But the support his friends give to him, the care they've always shown SUNNY, how they know how much SUNNY has been through... I feel like whatever the case, they wouldn't abandon him. They may be angry, frustrated. But he was a child, and he made an irreversible mistake. But, even that doesn't happen. SUNNY came to terms with his trauma, his deeply seeded psychological issues. And as you can see in the true ending cutscene, he learns to be happy. Even if they don't forgive him, SUNNY after that ending, I feel, will have the strength now to move on. And, at least, he will still have BASIL :) also dear SUNNY... please forgive yourself...

God... Omori's story is so heavy... A disagreement between brothers that ended in tragedy... All the denial that Sunny does to forget what happened... The dream world... This game is almost perfect, it's a shame that it focuses too much on random things in the dream world that have no consequences in the real life.
just realized that im just so attached to the omori cast bc i never had a big friend group, and frankly, that's probably what little me wanted. i'm 20 now, and sometimes wished that i'd reach out to more people and become friends and have this big friend group of 5-6 people that i could hang out with everyday. makes me sad man.
I once had a group of friends in primary school, 5 of us. We were the standard nerds who liked video games and did dumb things. They were the only real friends I had back then. After we moved to high-school, most of my friend group moved to different schools, one even moved to a different state. Only one of my friends went to the same high-school as me but he just doesn’t see me as that friend anymore, more like just a normal person walking by. I didn’t get my other friends contacts so there was no way I could reach out to them. And when I did meet with them in person, our times together were brief and bland, almost like we had forgotten who we were. I miss those times, for 4-5 years of my life they made me feel wanted and loved.
I had a big friend group but they were awful people so I'd imagine part of why I fucking love this cast (and this game, really) is because I wanted friends like that instead of ones that treated me like actual garbage. I also wish I would do the same and form a big group like that, but I like my current thing I have with my one friend (who is great and I don't deserve him).

So I found a new group of ‘friends’ but they treated me like shit, harassing me, blackmailing me, making fun of my depression until I had enough and just stopped hanging out with them. It took them 2 weeks to notice and when they confronted me they said it was my fault for everything that had happened and that they were the victims and that really pissed me off. Now I’m in a supportive friend group and I hope you can find the right friend group for you.
God this, I can relate so much. I had lanaguage impairment since I was young and because I couldn't build sentences properly I had no one to relate to. From the beginning of 2016 to 2020 I stayed alone and push people away from both online and in real life. Until those 4 years past I felt cowardly to make any friends at all. When I tried making friends online it started out bad but, until I found friends who were like me I felt happy. I recontacted my friends from highschool and we made a friend group and then... This game came out. This game is what finally broke my shell to finally talk to people again. But, I do hope you find the friends your looking for, it might be bumpy at first but remember not to give up hope and despite finding bad people, there's still millions of golden gems out there who are like you finding friends.
i'm kind of the opposite, i'm in a big friend group currently but i'm not particularly close to most people in it and always feel like i'm just sort of there in the background. i would love to have a small group of really close friends like in omori.
