At what point to you give him any personal responsibility? Had he made better decisions he would not be dead. See here’s the problem , I don’t know all the specifics of the case , I’m not inferring he’s a bad person but his actions were cruel. It’s common sense to not kneel down on some neck to suffocate of oxygen. Sure If he is acting violent then yeah you need do what you need to do to take him within reason. But after you do that and he’s subdued and under control then it’s completely common sense and NO reason for him to kneel on the guys neck for 8 minutes with your body weight .
It doesn’t matter race , religion , culture - cop or not. You gotta be held accountable for you’re actions whether you are a cop or not. Most cops are good but there is a serious need for police training reform and they way we prioritize the treatment and handling of those who acting with reason and without but essentially at least the bare minimum more in depth mental health training for those who are mentally disabled. The guy was overdosing on fentanyl, driving around whilst on drugs potentially killing someone innocent, using fake notes in a store and generally acting crazy, had a history of violent armed robbery and then on top of this decided to physically refuse arrest forcing the officers to subdue him. At what point to you give him any personal responsibility? Had he made better decisions he would not be dead. Maybe the officer shouldn't have used so much force but ffs the guy was a total liability and put himself in the situation you aren't going to get treated with kid gloves. It can't have been that much weight on his neck given that he was there for like 10 minutes otherwise he would have passed out in a minute. I think given the situation the cops did nothing wrong, floyd made some very very stupid decisions and ended up bearing the brunt of those decisions. I mean if you have a heart condition and decide to take massive amounts of fentanyl you are basically signing your own death warrant. Really he had every chance to cooperate and decided not to you don't have a choice to cooperate with the police force unfortunately you do what they say or suffer the consequences as ultimately that's what keeps society safe and orderly for normal people who aren't career criminals.
