A lot of people say "Armenia deserves this because they chose Russia over Ukraine" do not understand that Armenia has No choice but to support Russia.
Azerbaijan not only wants Nagorno Karabakh but possibly Armenia as well. Turkey also has weird ottoman ambitions and Armenia is in the way of connecting turkey to Azerbaijan.
If Armenia chose Nato over Russia this would not save Armenia since turkey wouldn't allow them to join Nato or would disrupt any process of Armenia becoming closer to NATO.
Armenia has no choice to support Russia because the benefits are that Russia possibly supports them military and Iran also supports them since Iran has 10+ million Azari's in their own borders whom could threaten to separate from Persian dominant Iran.
This war has nothing to do with religion either. Armenia is Christian but Shia Iran backs Armenia over their Shia azeri brothers while turkey is Sunni but backs Shia Azerbaijan one because they are both Turkic people and 2 they are a gateway for turkey to expand its influence into central Asia.

The Ottoman's were just orcs straight through and through. They were so Orcish that Muslim tribes and nations actually sided with the Christian colonial powers of Europe over the Ottomans.

They should have used it and negotiated a peaceful settlement in which they keep Nagorno region while giving the rest back to Azerbaijan. 1. Azerbaijan use to be Albania before Turks took over.
    2. You implied that Russia played as a "peacekeeper" in this conflict, but they actually were the ones exacerbating it.
They layed a lot of the foundation to migrations and ethnic disparity in the region and supplied both sides with weapons (half off for their good buddy Armenia 😉).
This is the 1 and only Russian "tactic":
    Create ethnic tension
    Arm both sides
Support one side if they become puppet state
Claim to peacekeep but Take over everything
Armenians and Azeris use to get along quite well, but Russia and Turkey are using them as proxy war to test out their cool eath gadgets.

At least that's how it was explained to me in college Arabic class, I could be wrong. Architecture, and innovation in architecture is way more culturally significant in the middle east than in the west.

10:05 none of that is true. Armenia sides itself with Russia and Iran not the West. Azerbaijan is more a Western ally than Armenia. In fact, the international community sides with Azerbaijan over Nagorno Karabakh. Nancy Polosi was in Armenia to essentially steer it away from Russian and Iranian influence since the two pretty much failed to guarantee its security. Azerbaijan is diplomatically one of the most secure countries in the world, Armenia has hardly any friends.

    • @archuk6058

We all know what the reason is Azerbaijan has friends, and its not "because of their pretty eyes", a saying among Armenians. BP (Great Britain), EU and Israel are major investors in azerbaijan, only because of oil, its called "caviar diplomacy".

    • @sultanskinny
      @sultanskinny 2 года назад +1

@@archuk6058 Yes. But it also cooperates in international affairs at a much more sophisticated level than Armenia. Georgia, which is a country with far more in common culturally than Armenia is more friends with Azerbaijan. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan refuse to even have diplomatic relations with Armenia due to their support of Azerbaijan. The Armenian parliament meanwhile has consistently seen protests calling for resignations and full on brawls occur between parliamentarians. Their state apparatus and diplomacy are not comparable. Governance plays a key role here.

Azerbaijan also sides with Russia as well. They offered absolutely no diplomatic support to Ukraine during the war and are very friendly with Russians. They are only a “Western ally” in the sense that Israel pumps them with military weapons. But the U.S., France, European Parliament, etc. condemned the Azeri attacks on Armenia numerous times. Armenia is strongly allied with France and Greece which are a part of the West. So both countries have allies on both sides, so you aren’t correct.

The Caucasus isnt even Balkans 2.0
But its more that balkans is caucasus 2.0
The semi-nomadic horse confederations had from Ukraine to north Persia pretty much on lock and groups of them would press down through the caucasus and btfo the middle eastern Empires, and even when these guys would basically take over or establish new Kingdoms/Empires in the ME, many generations later those very kingdoms would try it on and get dunked on too, w very few exceptions.
The historical records indicate that there were even amazon tribes that operated there and could outmatch the imperial forces of the south. Cyrus the Great (who was a Hell of a Godking, lauded by pretty much all sources) got wrekt by these Scythians and their Amazon Queen, and it became known that it just wasnt a good idea for these empires to mess with the region.
And it stayed hardy - it wasnt really until the golden age of the Russian Empire that this whole dynamic could truly be said to have been overcome, and even then.
