My 5512 was inherited from my dad, a 1968 one..meters first, beautiful patina. He was an MD, member of 40 fathom club in Orlando, Fl diving with World record holder Hal Watts...so this watch has been to 240 feet. Just had it serviced, runs great but will not pass pressure test any longer.....never selling, leaving it to my son.
I have a ‘72 Submariner, bought new, my everyday watch for past 48+years, including working in heavy industry, changed the Flip-Lock with Rolex service 7 years ago ago, as always, keeps perfect time. I also have. later model gold and stainless Daytona and beautiful Breitling Chronomat that I hardly ever wear. My ‘72 #5512 Submariner 4 Line has become a timepiece that has marked the time of my life. Thanks for the affirmation and history of the iconic #5512.
Nice review, sir!. I bought my 5512 brand new in 1966. I was just a 16 year old kid, and sold my sufboard to fund the purchase. The price then was $210.00. A far cry from today's prices! I had it serviced by Rolex earlier this year, which took 6 months, and it looks fantastic. I always wore mine as a tool, having worn it in pole vault and broad jump events in high school. In 1966, the Submariner, and even Rolex in general, was not that widely known in the US, and was not considered to be such a luxury watch as it is these days. I'll never sell it.
Great review of an icon Submariner. I have a different view of my 5513 which I bought in Vietnam in 1969 at the Long Binh PX. I still wear this watch every day and am not afraid at all to wear it out and about. It is the best timepiece ever made and the coolest too. How many can say the have worn the same watch every day for over 50 yeas?
I first viewed this watch in 1962 at the Rolex store in Zurich Switzerland. I was 13 at the time and thought it was without question the coolest watch I had ever seen. Forward 10 years, I am out of college, working and looking for a new watch. The jewelry store clerk saw I was interested in a diving watch and said he had just gotten one in that I may be interested in. Back he came with, yes a 1966 Rolex Submariner 5512 . He said the original owner could not make the payments so he brought it back. Then the shocker, he said I could have it for $150.00!! Even in 1972, new Subs were selling for around $375.00. Forward 46 years, my 5512 is still on my wrist. Naturally, it has been serviced and I eventually replaced the original bracelet with a flip lock model, selling the old bracelet for twice what I paid for the watch. As you said, it's a valuable watch to wear everyday but like my sports car, why have it if you don't enjoy it?
This particular Sub is so over polished. It shouldn’t be mirror polished like that it should be brush. It’s a great watch but the case and bracelet seem ruined.
A family friend bought one when he was overseas some time in the 60s. Took a Brillo pad to it to “knock the shine off.” Never had it polished. I think it actually looked better that way.
I scored my 5512 no date 4 line and a women's Datejust at a community garage sale. It's a 1978 5512 with a 5513 case. This was acceptable in the day from Rolex. It's a beautiful watch, lovely patina on the lume. It's in very, very good condition. Works perfectly without any service from me. Running as found. I love to wear it, and I do. Nobody knows it's a Rolex, unless you're a watch person, or high end thief. :-) I love to enjoy my watches and move them for someone else to enjoy later once I get them out of my system. Of course for a handsome profit. When we die, we take nothing, so might as well enjoy them while here.
Beautiful watch, great quality, durable, high quality, nice ageing, nice movement, nice crown, nice lugs, nice condition, nice bezel, great domed crystal, nice bracelet. A great watch and nice video. One of my dream watches. Thank you for the great video. Thank you to your friend for letting you show the watch to the world and make a video on it. This is one of my most favorite Rolexes, along with the ref. 5513. By the way, I like most vintage advertisements, mostly cars, airlines, and watches.
Thank you for the review. I have a very close friend who is going to leave me his 1975 5512 with feet first on the dial. He’s 75 years old and the original owner with box, papers, and receipt. To this day he wears the watch every day and keeps it in immaculate shape. I am not looking forward to the day the watch comes into my hands because obviously I would much rather have my friend around, but I told him that I would take really good care of it and tell people the story of how I came about to owning it. His legacy will live on every time someone inquires about the time piece. I’m proud to pass on his story.
Since I can not get that Rolex 5512, I just bought Tisell Submersible, ha ha ha. Maybe I shouldn't be talking about Tisell subersible when this vid is about Rolex 5512, however, Tisell is all I can afford even though I WOULD LOVE.... to have Rolex 5512. Anyway, going back to Tisell, the accuracy of Miyota 90S5 is just amazing. more accurate than ETA2824-2 from Ginault and Steinhart. Yes, it has kind of noisy rotor sound, but I like it because it gives the watch some sort of distinctive characteristics. However, Tisell make some great value wonderful Submersible EXCEPT the bracelet. Always something is not working right on the bracelet. in my case, few of screws for the links can not be tightly screw in. couple of them are just spinning inside...sad.. anyway, since I can not have the real Rolex 5512, I will just be happy with looking at that Tisell submersible. :+) another good vid, Oleg. PS: by the way, when is the marathon date? why am I keep asking about your running? because I always admire people who can really do real full Marathon. that takes a lot of training and preparation and specially will power to go thru... which I do not have at this point in time, ha ha ha.
This is one of the watch channels that help me decide to get a Tisell marine diver. I am not used to the weight, it's 150 grams. I also have the screw problems with the bracelet and I wrote to the company and the guy told me to use something I never heard of but I looked it up and all it is just some kind of glue. Geeze, yeah those keep coming to lose and I love the watch itself but I don't care for the bracelet as much as I would like to. It kind of feels a bit sharp and cheap. I love the glide lock. They did not leave much room to squeeze in very many bracelets being to close to the watch (spring bars) The watch itself keeps good time and I like the 28,800 beats per hour, it's smoother. If you have any ideas for a replacement bracelet I would love to hear it. Not many straps can fit this thing. Thin ones will fit.
@@scottsj4625 yep. their bracelet sucks!!!! so, for me, I am just using black rubber strap. it looks very sharp with black rubber strap. you can buy them from amazon around $10 to $15 range with quick release spring bar. try that out. it looks better than with the stupid bracelet. thanks scott and good luck to you.

With modern manufacturing techniques, I would definitely buy new homage versions of this watch. My favorite Super Bowl ad was the Stella beer commercial. Who doesn’t like the Dude.
4 digit reference numbers for any good working Rolex will be expensive. I would be afraid to wear that one outside too or getting robbed even. Also hard to get parts for those and costly servicing much more than a modern Rolex would be. I would keep those in a safe and let them gain more value if I owned any. I know some people hate homage watches, but I like them as they can have a nice classic looking watch for a fraction of the cost. BTW, how is your training going? Can you give us any updates? I would imagine the Gshock you got for around 50 dollars, maybe a little under or over. I forgot, but those things can really take a beating and I would recommend those for any athletic training as most come with stopwatches and count down timers and inexpensive and tough. Lightweight too.
A watch like this is an investment as much as it is a timepiece. It was very special recording this review. Training is going well. I did a 20k run on Sunday. Feeling good. Training with the G-Shock almost everyday:)
Love the old Rolex references, although not too keen on the polishing of the one reviewed - my dad has had a 5513 since I was a kid and it's still going strong. PS. nice wall clock (on your left wrist)
Chronometer certified movement in the 5512; non-certified for the 5513. Otherwise, they are essentially the same watch with the same case and same durability. The 5512 is more expensive today based on rarity - far fewer 5512s were produced than 5513s (one 5512 was produced to every six 5513s produced). Which one is "better" is purely subjective and up to the wearer.

Thank brother!
It looks so overpolished though. Submariners were never fully high-polished, correct?
Back in the day they didn't care about over polishing the cases:(
Rolled links. Really ? What's the huge railway clock on your wrist Oleg?
It's from '60s there were not solid end links. Do you like my new favourite Diesel watch?;)
@@24hourstime At least it's not a sub mariner homage 😂. It's a sub marine depth guage 😂😂
What watch were you wearing, its a gigantor
Do you like my new favourite watch? Diesel big daddy;)
I have a Rolex 5508 submariner all original condition
The shortest commercials on television are groovy...
I'll never understand the appeal of these watches, so moving on ... if you type "a hazelnut in every bite" into the RUclips search bar and click on the first result, that's one of my favourite adverts. :-)
I'll check it out:)
How appropriate for you to review a 5512, then end the video with Bond. He's the man. I see what you did there.... 😎⌚🍸
He like the stick to be thrown not shaken;)
Amazon add...like the Harrison Ford ending
That's a good one Craig!
What is that on your wrist ? 🤔
Don't you just love my new favourite watch?
Nice video
Great content on your channel
New supporter
Thanks brother!
Fantastic watch
Isn't it? So beautiful:)
Nice Video
Hallo from germany
Thank you:)
The NFL 100 year commercial by a mile
That's a good one!
The only legend here is Bond. More screen time for Bond, less for overly scratched, non sapphire crystal watches. Even you admit modern MVMT are better than this watch.
the womanizer's watch
always Omega over Rolex
