As someone who has dealt with mental illness since I was 12, part of me feels bad for this guy. He genuinely believes that what he's saying makes sense. I'm diagnosed with bipolar with psychotic features and during my first manic episode, I genuinely believed that I was an alien from another planet that was sent to earth to save humanity. Yes, you read that correctly. Mental illness is a very real thing and I hope this guy seeks help.

There is a large cult built around that idea currently. I can't remember everything, but I do remember they think they are from higher dimensions of existence having lived past lives as ETs. They also believe a federation of extra dimensional terrestrials are working together to raise Earth's vibrations into the fourth and fifth dimension so that suffering will end and evil will no longer exist. They call this the new earth. I remember they kept making predictions on when this would happen, but it always didn't happen. It was very frustrating to watch them rationalize that... And continue blindly believing. But at the same time, they made me feel a lot of compassion... Because I could see that many of them felt scared and hurt and trapped in a life, mind, body, world that they couldn't cope with. Which reminds me of my Self. People just want to be free from suffering.

Mental illness sucks. I've been dealing with a lot of depression/anxiety for the two years, especially within the last three months. There are only three major things keeping us from getting really bad: my friends/family, my future goals of college and a career, and lacking the cognitive dissonance that I would have had if I were still Christian. No where in there does a god help my mental health. In fact, a god would probably hinder it. All of this anti psychology bullshit from Christianity and other religions such as Islam is fucking discusting, and it harms so many people. Mental illness is very real.

"Trust in God and your anxiety will go away." The number of times I heard this same statement growing up and into adulthood is astronomical. Man, I felt that pain with that guy when he said that. Therapy helped me understand that one of the major contributing factors to my anxiety disorder was my religious upbringing. I was raised Evangelical Christian. My family loves me. My church family loves me. But that religion is not love. I separate the people from their religion.

Very much so agree. My parents loved me and my community loved me. But when I say to them that the religion hurt me they don’t understand. It’s the core messages of the religion that hurts people. Telling people they are good for nothing without a person up in the sky in their life and that your inherently broken is damaging to the psyche. That what I have a problem with and thank the gods I got out of. Tbh my anxiety probably has to do a lot with religious upbringing too.

The church really can be one of the biggest hypocrites and liars about what the Belief is really all about. It can be so detrimental and dangerous. Especially with the preachers who get off on their authority and think themselves untouchable.
The people who will say these things and make you the problem for suffering you didn’t ask for, really need to be clocked upside the head. And forget it if they ever become afflicted themselves, they will quickly back up on their words, the hypocrisy is just too much.
I hope you are doing ok today. Anxiety can be a real b*tch and it’s definitely not easy to manage.

@@_DanielFernandez_ The original comment is referring to 2 factors that combine into a problem. 1, the religious doctrine talks about an afterlife, something "better" that isn't going to come. 2, "we are supposed to suffer in this life" will compel people to not change a problem, rather suffer through to the end with it.
These combined will lower said individuals quality of life through till the end of their life.

I felt so burdened to tell the people around me about Jesus because to think of them going to hell was too much to bear. There was a lot of intense guilt and fear. I tried to make it work for me for a long time, but my search for truth and answers ironically led me away from God. I still wonder if I never “had it right” and that’s why I lost belief, the whole no-true-Scotsman fallacy. If God exists I’ve never known him, though. If Jesus lives, then where is he?

That's how they keep people trapped. They indoctrinate each other, and literal children, to be riddled with self doubt. It's the same tool abusive people use to control their target. It's also a tactic of psychological warfare used for literal torture at Guantanamo. They use the best parts of you - your desire to be good and kind, your love, your compassion - as a source of pain to control and weaponize you. They use that one strategy to make people too afraid to leave, and to deflect any accountability whatsoever. A Christian did a bad thing? Not really a Christian. God didn't answer your prayer? You're bad at prayer. God isn't speaking to you? You're not doing enough for him to want to. You're questioning your faith? You're not being Christian enough. The answer is always more religion. Always. This is intentional manipulation and again is the same tactic abusive narcissistic people use. If I hit you, it's because you weren't nice enough to me. If I cheated on , it's because you don't love me enough. The answer is always to give more and to stop asking for the reciprocation you were promised. It's sick. It's terrifying. It's the most evil force on earth. If these people truly cared and believed in Jesus, they wouldn't drive people away from him by using him as a weapon to gain power.

I get it man. I went hardcore atheist for several years. I've bounced back a little. A very little. I've had a variety of experiences with meditation and some choice hallucinogens and I've decided that the only god is the dynamic connection between all things. Religion is horseshit. There doesn't need to be some spiritual reality or some all-powerful god to recognize the connection between all things. Hell, if neuroscience is on the right track (and I'm a machine learning engineer - so I'm pretty comfortable saying this), then consciousness springs from the complex interplay between "nodes". Which means that it's not just in our brains - but in all networks, including the interconnected human collective. It may very well be that the human network is what most people think is "God". If you love yourself repent of your sins (lying, hatred, unforgiveness, sexual sins, taking the Lord’s Name in vain, stealing, dishonouring your parents etc) & believe in Jesus for forgiveness of sins. (Jesus died on the Cross as a sacrifice and defeated death by rising from the dead)

@@melissaroszkowski8911 That's not true. You seem to have a misunderstanding of what agnostic means. It just means you're not gnostic.. In other words; you're not pretending to know one way or the other, but you can still *believe* one way or the other despite recognizing that you don't actually know and can't know. Agnostic theism for example is someone who believes in God or a higher power but admits nothing can be known. The theism part is just what they believe or assume, not what they think they 'know'. The vast majority of people are agnostic about their beliefs in God but they still have beliefs. Look up agnostic atheism and agnostic theism.
There's even also two different kinds of atheists. People who simply lack a theistic belief, and then there's people who *actively* believe there is no god. The former is just waiting on evidence or something to convince them, which likely wont ever happen but they're usually still open to whatever. Gnosticism and agnosticism is a completely separate question about the belief of one's own *knowledge* on the question.

Every time he says brow I'm picturing him wearing football pads like Kevin from Daria. "bro, what's wrong, Bro? Bro. BRO!!"

Jaclyn, I am a Christian and a Believer, so I suppose we are slight odds with one another in that respect, but I have to say, you never fail to give me a chuckle and make me laugh.
I mean you’d have to have a stick up your bum to not watch some of these people and feel your brain turning to moosh or wait for the day we see them on the news or an episode of snapped.
These are the same types of people who will put down the phone and go kick a puppy, I swear.
I just wanted to say thanks for the laughs. I can’t always agree with everything you say, but I see you as a beautiful, funny, entertaining person and I wish you and your lovely little family much happiness and health.
