So when laws allowing gay marriage went in to power, this is God's will. We should all accept these laws. If the old testament was replaced by the new testament, surely God can give us new laws through our government because we have been misunderstanding or mistranslating the new testament.
Imagine if God sent us a new prophet with a set of laws that needed a bit of clarification. The prophet would get laughed at or even locked up in a mental health institution. So what better way to clear up the stuff we've gotten wrong, than to use the government that He put in place? (Romans 13: 1-2)

Only if the tattoo is "for the dead," also Jesus made it clear that the old laws don't apply to Christians though that should mean that being gay is also not a sin. Though there is negative talk about being gay in the new testament too so it's kind of hard to say what is and isn't a sin outside of the 9 commandments Jesus said still apply to Christians.

Also Jesus came to temper mercy to the harshness of the laws in existence and make it easier to have a link to god, rather than having to go through the priest, Pharisees, Sadducees etc.... You could just have a direct link to god .........
Also, the law of do not tattoo was not invalidated, but rather reinforced in the new testament (1st Corinthians precisely), where it said, your body is the holy temple of god, do not defile it.....

I questioned God and faith when I was maybe 5 years old. In Sunday school I was told that when you get to heaven you forget everything from earth. And being the hopeless romantic I was at 5 I thought, why. Why would you love a person so much here on Earth only to forget them in heaven. How can you be in paradise without the person you love the most?
Once we go to heaven we will have glorified bodies that cannot sin no more it's on the bible

At my university I followed a religion course that we all were kinda obligated to take but to be honest it was a really interesting book that discussed the bible and it didn't really say that the bible was bad or evil but that we must also understand that there is enough evidence that
1° The bible was written AND rewritten multiple times BY multiple authors.
2° It was also written in a time (the PAST) where other practices were more common than now and also usually written in dark times where people needed to be given hope. Like if I remember correctly the 10 commandments also known as the Decalogue was actually written for the Isreali men of that time and for example the commandment "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor" was actually meant to maintain the order in Isreali society ruled by men whereas you can see as the sentence say "anything that belongs to your neighbor" also means that everything HE owns including his wife. Therefore you cannot take the commandments literally, which sorry to say this is also a problem with some hardcore Christians/Catholics/Witnesses of Jehovah which tend to use only the parts of the Bible that benefits them but neglect other sentences like "But anything in the seas or the rivers that has no fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you" which means you cannot eat shellfish. And this is only one example of many.
3° There are different variations of the bible (old testament and new testament ) and also translations which are not always accurate because the words and meanings didn't really exist or because the author chose to translate it as such.
4° The Bible is made out of many different stories that we should not take literally but try to understand on a more ethical surface and use to reflect on our own situations.
Hence we should also not use the Bible literally but try to understand the essence and morals of these written passages and use these in our daily lives to try to become better humans. (of course you don't have to but that was what the book was about. About how the Bible could still be of use to us in these new modern times.)
How is that even useful? Humans have come up with far better moral systems than thouse found in the bible.
I am an interpreter and when we were studying bible translations and editing at college i t was clear that you can’t blindly follow a text that’s been transformed over an over by different people for centuries, this is just ridiculous

When it came out he was gay (which was illegal in the at the time), he was chemically castrated with substances that destroyed his genius mind and lead to his (debated) suicide.

The entire idea of marriage was invented at some point by someone, so how is changing the definition any different? 3. The definition of words can and does change. A computer used to refer to a human whose job it was to do math, and now it refers to something different because the old definition became outdated.

The bible has some really terrible war crimes and shit in it, as well as countless attacks on my personal being. This is why I never tried to argue whether the bible is true, because it doesn't matter, you are not going to stop me from being bi. And, it doesn't change that the government's definition of marriage is different than the bible's definition of marriage, because the US government has separation of church and state. Marriage also serves no purpose in society and never should have been invented to begin with, but I'm not going to stop you from getting married, because I don't like to get into arguments with random married people on the internet and be like "marriage is a social construct, and you wasted thousands of dollars on your wedding", because I don't care.

You know what's actually "Frickin' ironic" "honey?", the fact you criticize them with a book you've never even read and take things out of context. The Bible says to judge a righteous judgement John 7:24- "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." So I'm not seeing the contradiction in this statement? The implication wasn't that we were free from sin... The majority of us are probably worse then you are. The bible says we're all evil in our hearts and there is not one righteous person in the eyes of God. That is why by the Grace of God, he sent down the sacrificial lamb (Jesus Christ) to die for our sins. That way we can be saved from our sins. That is why when he was dying on the cross he said "It is finished", that was the great news.

I feel like many religious people who argue that being gay is a choice are often bisexual (or of any sexuality that allows them to "choose to be gay"). There's no way to get an accurate statistic for this, but as a bisexual myself, I could understand why it might seem like being gay is a choice for some people.

Personally, I don't believe that being gay is a sin at all. The Bible says something along the lines of "man should not lie with another man," but I've heard that the original translation is closer to "man should bit lie with boy," condemning pedophilia. So, if you look at the ten commandments, it advises ten sins. Every single one of the sins listed involves hurting someone. Murder is obvious, jealousy is hurting yourself, worshipping idols n stuff is hurting God, etc. But being in a consentual relationship with someone you love is a beautiful thing.
People may call me knit picky because of this but the Bible wasn't written by God. It was written by prophets and it is their personal interpretation of God. And then we interpret that however we want to.

In fact, Jesus himself affirmed the covenanted union of one man and one woman as the only normative expression of human sexuality. Also the entire biblical narrative presupposes that sexual relationships are supposed to take place between a man and a woman in the context of marriage. God indeed does love everyone, however God does not love everything. If someone says that they love God, then obviously they are being completely abstinent from same-sex (sexual) relationships etc. since that's what the word of God compels them to do. The bible definitely says that being gay is a sin. Multiple times. Directly and indirectly.

I used to be just like them! I totally get where you’re coming from. I still consider myself somewhat faithful, but I definitely do not believe in the Bible. Back when I was a religious freak, I was always miserable and I had so much contempt about all of the “sinful” stuff people were doing. I had that “I’m not judging but you’re going to hell” outlook on the lgbt community. And it turns out I was gay the whole time. I love to pick apart the psychology behind religious indoctrination. It’s not talked about so much because so many people are just okay with it. I feel really bad for Paul and Morgan. They’ve constructed a rigid set of values and it as made them so closed minded. I’m also upset with them, though, for not seeing how terrible what they’re doing is. I hope they can accept that the truth of the world is not bound up in one book that a bunch of old white guys compiled (and edited/misinterpreted the shit out of). I felt so much more free and human and (in a weird turn of events) CLOSER to God or whatever spiritual creator exists for me.
My father in law is gay and was raised Mormon. Was told by a bishop to settle down with a good Mormon girl and everything would be fine! It wasn’t fine. They divorced, remarried (for their son), had another son, she caught him having an affair with another man, they divorced again. They had two kids, but he’s STILL GAY. 🙄 Married to a man now. My mother in law has been to hell and back because of it all. Conversion therapy doesn’t work. Marrying someone of the opposite gender doesn’t “cure” your gay. It just places you and everyone involved into a dark pit of unhappiness and dissatisfaction until one or both of you decide to call it quits.
That's awful, he rejected a part of himself for so long in his lifetime and dragged another person into that mess because they value these rules above their own lives.

I've grown up in a Christian home my whole life....I felt wrong for a long time for being pan...but I'm finally accepting myself.
My dad (who is a preacher) and mom who does children's church has always told me "oh it's a sin to be gay trans etc ( they say homosexual) and sometimes it hurts me mentally , emotionally & physically (I used to hurt myself bc I felt like exploding....I didn't know what I was feeling.) so I'm gonna say.....people in the LGBTQ+ community are some of the nicest, most amazing people I have ever come to know.
I do believe in God, but I WILL NOT be part of their little "cult"
When I finally get my own place, I won't be going back to their church.
If I ever go to church again, it will be at a LGBTQ church.

These kind of people break my heart, especially since I'm gay and my parents are exactly like this. Sometimes it's so hard to not think about getting married one day-and my parents not coming because they "couldn't support it". So sad, hope they realize how hurtful this attitude is towards lgbt people.
My neighbor had a very strict religious father and when she realized she was a lesbian he said the same thing. 10 years later she got married, he walked her down the aisle with happy tears in his eyes. Ultimately love wins out.

Really Jaclyn, I think I can relate. I remember the concern that my atheist brother was going to hell, even my beloved Grandmother was in danger! She was always “spiritual,” but never gave me a straight answer on whether she accepted Christ into her heart. Sometimes it’s aggravating to hear this bigoted shit and then think, “these are human beings who were victimized, the worst thing about it is that they were taught to victimize others.”

As a former christian and as a gay person, I have very little empathy for them. It’s mostly disgust and rage. These people are the sort of people who made me feel unwanted by “god” and made me fear and constantly doubt about hell. Constantly feeling unworthy. -!: sinful - and that’s beyond being gay. When you’re a christian the narrative is always “we’re so flawed and unworthy, born in sin” and so on... I truly believe it’s damaging. Thankfully I also came to the conclusion that I couldn’t be so unkind and unloving to myself based on a few thousand years old book, of questionable origin, without any evidence. Nor that I needed that book or any god, to be a good person. Fuck their whole “holier than thou” approach in talking to other human beings.
Eventually, I really can’t empathise much with Paul and Morgan. I feel way worse for lgbt+ people who truly believe in those words, and the implications and consequences of that. I didn’t go to conversion therapy, nor no one ever forced me to have relationships with men, however I could never escape the whole narrative of sinfulness and shame. It’s psychologically unhealthy, it hurts others when you’re asked to evangelise, and it simply misleads you in blindly following certain rules and ideals and never question them.
I hope they do take up your offer for a debate or chat on YT, I’d love to see what kind of mental gymnastics they can come up with, justifying their ideas.
Another thing: if they believe that being gay is a sin, as much as anything else in the bible, how are Morgan’s tattoos fine?! as someone who used to be extremely religious, i completely understand the feelings you were going through watching that video. i really feel horrible for them even though they kinda suck because that shit really is terrifying. i doubt they ever will, but i really hope they open their minds one day and lose some of their more radical beliefs.
Like you I'm formerly religious, and I also see the hurt and fear alongside the bigotry. I can relate when you talk about having that fear those you love were going to hell. Although, I was very happy as an evangelical Christian and it was devastating when I started to question it, particularly as it coincided with me leaving my abusive and cheating ex husband (as you've probably guessed I was criticised and shamed, told I was destroying my son's life). Though looking back I started questioning some things after I was told I am chronically ill because of sin. I love your videos and can relate to the things you say so much.
I went to a catholic school since I was 5 until I was 14, and during that period of time I realized I liked girls. I had to hide it from most of my friends, who I knew cared about me, but they still were judgemental and wouldn't even hesitate to rat me out on it.
I had this friend who was a couple of years younger than me, super religious and she had the same smile on her face and spoke in the same tone as the couple in this video. God and Jesus were her devotion and church and being part of the community was a huge part of her identity.
When I was 15 I changed to a non-catholic school and she calls me on the phone one day, sounding extremely nervous and anxious, asking me about how I was sure I was gay. Then she asked me more about how I was dealing with it, if I wasn't scared and so on. After that call she never talked to me again, even though I called her. multiple times to her house (Early 2000s, there was no other way to contact her). She was heavily controlled by her parents, so it wouldn't surpise me they heard her talking and forbid her to talk to me again. It makes me feel so sad, cause I truly believe she asked me all those questions cause she was curious about her own sexuality, yet people like her rarely have the courage to come out and they end up living a lie, marrying the opposite sex and spending the rest of their lives trying to repress themselves cause they think what they do is sinful and they deserve to be punished.

I really appreciate your commentary here. When I was Christian I had to do so many mental gymnastics to believe in god and the Bible. There were many things that I always questioned and it made me feel so bad that I questioned god. There was a lot of guilt and shame. Letting go of religion helped me to feel so much happier and free.

I would love to hear some of these people (P&M, Girl Defined, etc) talk about asexuals. I would love to hear them explain how people need to feel this sexual attraction and need to want to have sex, but at the same time advicate for lust being a sin. I NEED THAT!
