This is a great way to tighten a rope, sometimes too tight to get the knot untied, especially with smaller cords in wet weather. One way to make a knot easier to untie is to put a dead toggle in the knot. Just pick up a finger sized twig and put it in the knot as you tie it. When time comes to get the knot untied, just break the twig and pull it out. Now, the knot will untie much easier. Thanks for being such a good teacher. Give your boy a pat on the back from Papa. My favorite knot is the truckers hitch. I’ve used this knot in several different situations. It takes the place of ratchet straps if you don’t have ratchet straps. I am a Merchant Marine and ratchet straps will rust in a salt water environment pretty quickly, so if I needed to secure something lite like environmental barrels,,, the truckers hitch was my go to.

I will tell you why I am looking for a tight rope: I am tying a slack line without rachet, and I will use the trucker's hitch in series to get that line really tight without a rachet.

Is worth notice that these are teorethical numbers, in reality you lose some of the mechanical advantage to friction, a theorethical 3 to 1 in reality would be 1.8 to 1 (when using pulleys to reduce friction you could get a 2,8 to 1).
Dan, excellent video. I have been doing that for years with heavy canvas wall tents for the ridgeline rather than having to cutting poles. They need to be tight especially when you have some distance between the trees.

I was embarrassed after using the Truckers hitch the first time that I hadn't been using it for decades, kinda like I felt using a hammock. Now THIS variation, I'm embarrassed I hadn't thought of it myself, as this will solve an issue I've been having with something I'm working on. Dyneema cord is ultralight and ultra strong, like paracord size but 3/4 ton strength with zero stretch. It's amazing stuff. It's also really slippery and trying to pull enough tension on something that doesn't stretch while trying not to lose the tension when you tie it off has been a challenge. I bet this solves it. There are a lot of bushcraft experts out there and imo they are usually the tin foil hat super prepper, ex military, gotta conquer the known world, the is government bad, cliche examples of the people you don't want to meet in the woods.. Very few have a very practical and easy going approach to minimalism and bushcraft. Keep it up!!
50 Years ago I was driving a lumber delivery truck. I broke 5/8 and one inch hemp rope doing just what you described when tying down loads. Landed flat on my back and four foot down from the truck bed when the rope broke one time and rolloed off the truck bed the second time. .
So good. Such a great way to do another truckies hitch which is strong and tension is so tough. Ive seen a few ways others do double truckies hitch but this way is so good. Keep up the awesome work buddy

I love the one-handed tie..!! How I missed the first video I don’t know. And, as always, one use leads to many more uses. You mentioned one Dan, moving logs with my ATV. Presently I use a logging chain (choker chain) but I like the idea of having another tool that is easier to work with and not nearly as heavy. Jeez, it took me longer to write this post than it did for you to teach me the double truckers hitch!! Lol!! Thanks for the hard work Dan!!

I realize this is from 10 months ago but it sure sounded familiar and I had to comment. My appendix ruptured...didn't know it. Hell, it didn't hurt, just felt weird and I went to work! Didn't get operated on for 3 days as well! Gangrene, peritonitis, 7 days in the hospital...cost a fortune of course. But I didn't die, full recovery, hope you're doing well.
Loop on the trucker's hitch can slip with paracord, I always make a fully knotted loop. Harder to get out but it won't slip no matter what. There's probably a better way, but that's what I do.
That is so righteous. I have been trying to understand multiple pulleys and this brings me a little closer. Could this possibly be effective enough to help me get my motorcycle on a trailer if I clip in two carabiners onto the loops to reduce friction?

For tightening things i prefer double half hitch quicker and easier but i can see how this knot would be useful in situations a double half hitch wouldn't suffice

Good stuff. If you use a locking, aka "automatic", trucker's hitch on the second loop you won't lose any of the tension when you tie off.

I did exactly that with three loops to lift a huge limb off a roof one time. Also used it to help square up a wall. Love the truckers hitch!

A 4 to 1 advantage as a pulley system goes. You can also lift very heavy loads with this. Like a canoe full of gear up a steep river bank with ease.

Add two to a 3/8" nylon rope, you can pull a truck out of the mud. I guess that's why they call them Pullies.
Pulleys are block and tackles; "Pullies" are disposable underwear for toddlers; a truckers hitch is neither.
