Certainly one can say this: one of the most beautiful songs ever written and recorded, interpreted flawlessly by the incredible Roberta Flack. Stunningly beautiful from the greatest decade in music, the 1970s.
She had such a interesting life and career , I watched her documentary it was really good ! I've loved her since I was 10 years old and I'm 61 now ! Her music was the soundtrack of the seventies !
Same here only I was a working adult. Now 70. I ran right to the record store. I had to have it! Such a beautiful love song on top of her glorious voice and beautiful face
No one has surpassed Roberta Flack's cover of this song. many people had never even heard the song before she recorded it. one of my all time solo singers along with Ella Fitzgerald Etta James and of course Sam Cooke , Jerry Butler, Brook Benton and jackie Wilson..Great song to react to..
..."Class of 76"...Roberta Flack was one of my "favorites" in my collection of 33Lp's reserved specially for candlelight and wine....now a married man of 65 my wife and I still listen to Roberta in the same way...many many great ones try...Killing me Softly...Thx!
Written back in 1957 by Scottish singer/songwriter Ewan Maccoll for Peggy Seeger. A relative of the greatest Folk Rocker Pete Seeger. The Roberta Flack version was used in the 1971Clint Eastwood movie "Play Misty For Me." Her rendition of the song captured a worldwide audience and made the song one of the greatest loved ballads ever.
Peggy was Pete Seeger's sister and when Ewen McColl wrote this for her she was his lover as he was already married to someone else. Kirsty McColl was one of his children from the first marriage.
This came out my 1st year of high-school and I have to say ... The First Time I Ever Heard This Song ... I knew nothing could touch it and still can't. My fav love song of all time then and still.
This beautiful song was Billboard's number one song of 1972, which was the year my parents got married. They are still married to this day. Shawn and Mel, I wish you many more happy years together.
I first heard this song while I as driving. After the first 30 seconds, I had to pull over and just listened. Amazing song, amazing composer, amazing singer.
Roberta’s first album First Take is a masterpiece as well as her second Chapter 2. Her duets especially with Donny Hathaway are classics. I have followed her ever since Les McCann introduced her (@1969).
Beautiful cover indeed. My favourite version. It was written by a Scottish folk singer 15 years earlier for an American folk singer, though he was married to someone else at the time of writing. However, those two, Ewan and Peggy, did eventually marry each other in the 70's. ❤
An absolute beautiful song . I had my very first kiss as this song played on the radio way back in the day . We never forget that first love . Thank you so much for reacting to it & bringing back that teenage feeling of love .
the guy who wrote this gorgeous song lived next door to my great aunt in salford england his name was ewan mcoll he also wrote dirty old town about the place where i live thankyou for this roberta flack did an amazing job🇬🇧❤️
Awe, Mel you are so cute. You need to check out the song 'Magnet & Steel'. It's awesome & seems appropriate. Love watching how cute you two are together.
A fantastic song , outstanding voice ......Totally surprised to find out that her song .' Killing Me Softly " , was in tribute to hearing Don McLean , he of " American Pie , and I believe , Vincent .
I was maybe 11 when this came out. My sister played it, and I was mesmerized. Since then, Roberta Flack has been my standard for beauty, grace, and style. There were many greats, but she affected me like no other. As a young white boy, that might have seemed odd, but no one compared. Thanks for bringing a big smile to my face.
Never get tired of that song and of The beautiful voice of Roberta Flack. You two had the perfect reaction to it, bringing up memories of your own relationship journey, with genuine love and emotion. It's very sweet. Happy for you. Love the songs that you're reacting to these days, many that I haven't heard in some time. Thanks
Roberta never fails to thrill & fill my eyes with nostalgic tears. I am reminded of my youngest maternal uncle showing me his new stereo setup & he played this song. He & my aunt had just moved into a new house & I was there for a housewarming party with all the cousins & other family who lived nearby. He then let me pick other music to play for the party on his new stereo & it made me feel so special. This song will forever be burned into my memory because of that day.
When people give the list of the greatest legendary singers most of them forget to add Roberta Flack to them, her music was very influential in the sound of Soul, R&B and pop. Her music will always be considered song of the greatest songs in music history.
I’ve always considered this the most beautiful song ever. Thank you, thank you for posting this. It’s one of those songs that make you cry from the emotion. ❤️
It is so (need adjectives)… refreshing… cute… sweet… poignant… moving… (some work escapes me) to say how much I appreciate that you spun off the lyrics to itemize all of you “first times”… and your love is so much fun to watch on this channel… very appreciate you both!
These songs were IMMENSELY popular in their time. ALL listeners, from Country & Western to Rock 'n Rollers, to Big Band-era, etc. Try "Say a little prayer for me." Aretha version or Roberta Flack.

Check out some of Roberta Flack's duets with Donny Hathaway "Where Is The Love" and "The Closer I Get To You".
Top tune, beautiful song.
Roberta Flack is also wonderful on the duet with Donny Hathaway THE Closer I get to you.
Back in the 70's, I had friends who had someone sing this song at their wedding. Almost 50 years later, they're still married.
That's beautiful
You don't have to wait to listen what an angel sounds in heaven!
Adorable couple...Roberta is an amazing musician and singer. Mesmorising...My Love. PEACE.☝️🤓
