Don't think I've ever heard this track described as "atmospheric" but the term sure fits. The whole album is a work of genius, and fittingly, has one of the best album titles of all time.
alguien allá x los '80 me invitó a escuchar misceláneas musicales , y entre tanto vinilo apareció T. D. enseguida Ma seduzco un sonido nuevo , original , atrapante . Época de vinilos y casettes , y una sana costumbre de compartir
I am crying for sound. There is an ingenous leal attempted by our artist for his success but these were the H., Duck years.right at this time, What could you do but take a blimp to Budapest!
Well there's more because you just have to check out "One of Our Submarines" and "Europa The Pirate Twins". I have been listening to this artist since the days of cassette tapes. He is still one of my MOST favorite artist of all time!
Thomas Dolby. Songs that need to be heard. I Live in a Suitcase. Budapest by blimp. Eastern Bloc which is part 2 of Europa and the Pirate twins has a solo by Eddie Van Halen that was put at number 7 of Van Halen's top 10 solos of all time. Screen Kiss, brilliant song. I love you Goodbye. Nuvogue. Armageddon is a song you won't believe is really him. My wife said it sounded like something serial killer would listen to 😂 Dolby is the reason Def Leppard guitars sound the way they do on Pyromania and Hysteria. He also does the intro of Foreigners song Ive been waiting for a girl like you. The guy never repeated himself and his production skills are off the chart
This is the TD song that made me go and buy Aliens. The whole albums a work of art. But this song, especially. It brings back a memory of a 20 year old lithe wispy model-type blonde in a satin sash sensuously dancing a floor show in 1989. I asked the doorman who this was...he said 'ask the dj'...and that was like asking the great 'OZ' as he was seated what appears like on the second floor in the dj booth of the New York stage at The Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre..Thomas Dolby was my answer
I apologize for the belated reply - thank you so much for your comment because back then I had a tall platinum blonde female friend from west London who also looked like model- such, such were the memories-
@hindsighter Good one! For someone reason the vid kept uploading with dead air at the end. Each time I tried to reduce the duration of the song in Windows Moviemaker, it would cut the last half of the song off. After several attempts I just uploaded it and left it as it is.
I respect mister Thomas Morgan Dolby Robertson cuz' he didn't try to market his name just like a vulgar Dr Dre for screwed up headphones, Mister Dolby IS the headphone !
Yeah I mentioned the first in an addendum comment below-- btw it was literally decades later with the help of the internet that I found out that Dolby was the artist-- shame on the radio for not making it more obvious- back then "Blinded Me" was on pop stations and "Submarines" was on rock stations. A friend of mine with whom I shared "Submarines" was so impressed that he purchased "The Golden Age of Wireless" and shared with me "Airwaves" which I had never heard before.
Nooo.. TD provided Budapest by Blimp as the dream-like music playing that the girl chose as her third and perhaps most important song in her dance set --the floor show. The near orgasmic soloing at 5:30 or so sent her into spasmic writhing on the stage floor, fully nude by now, and it was just...plain..beyond words in terms of beauty..the (then allowed) cigarette smoke hanging in the air with the followspot searing through it like a knife..She was a Thing of Beauty, and the song serves the memory
Dolby is currently teaching in a grad course in film sound and recording for Johns Hopkins. So, like another poster said, he's not just the headphones, he's the Master! hub.jhu.edu/2014/03/01/thomas-dolby-johns-hopkins
If you've only heard "Blinded Me with Science" and "Budapest by Blimp" check out "The Wreck of the Fairchild" and "Airwaves". On the album the first segues into the second, so I put them together in one vid on my channel. Thank you for the positive comment, by the way.
Yay Thomas !!I'm 22 years old... Still showin yer music to my generation. Love ya and may you're fans be with you. Peace man keep it funky!!!!!!!

Timeless classic. A man i'd like to thank for the past 25 years. One of the few good artists of his time and still active .
I love this song. Probably my most favorites.
Haunting.
This funk-jazz has been working inside and outside my subconscious for a very long time now... Thanks for the initiative...!

Thomas Dolby: Intellectual Entertainer. Poet, Bard. Definitely cult.

Moving in so many dimensions you don't have to get a clue to know what's in between fifth and forty second dimensions !
Dolby produced much of Prefab Sprout's best work
Misteriosamente nostalgico.

@extantia OK! Long live Thomas Dolby, anyway!

Oh almost forgot-- check out "One of Our Submarines", another Dolby sleeper great.

sounds very much like prefab sprout !
So Thomas Dolby was the lithe wispy model-type blonde in a satin sash? :D
Et ses séquelles : DX 27, MSX, Atari...
Vive le DX7 !!!
Did he say "built on the ashes of the jews?"
Yes he did-
