In round two, you mention Seeds of Innocence as a card you might consider boarding in Welding Jar for. It's important to note that Seeds of Innocence (as well as Serenity) circumvents Regeneration, as it was originally printed as "Bury" which then became "Destroy, it can't be regenerated". Jar is great against Meltdown, By Force, Pernicious Deed, and some similar effects, but not Seeds.
Thanks for the shoutout Phil :) It might help push me towards that 2K subs! As for the deck, I think you had some awkward match ups along the way for sure and I agree with you about the nature of presenting threats. Whilst there are definitely some games that Sphere etc can just win on their own, there are other games where that isn't the case at all. I found myself leaning more into playing threats before Tangle Wire to try and tempo a little, but obviously with MUD your gameplan is largely dictated by the opening hand. Deck felt really good for me based on the match ups I had, but this deck lives and dies entirely by match ups and opening hands on both sides so is a bit too volatile to be reliably good enough in the format. The ruby storm round was good fun especially :)
Crystalline giant is so cool and fun to play with. Also ive only played with it in digital and i am horrified at the idea of using it in paper, not just because of the horrifying stack of tokens but because its really hard to do the dice rolling for all the effects once its got some counters.
@@juanchetumare this is what I do, but I let my opponent choose one from the bag. It prevents any suspect of foul play and plus it's fun when they seal their own fate by picking a clutch counter like haste or hexproof
It took me 6 times to count how many different counters could be on crystalline giant. I kept coming up with 11 but it's obviously 10. Roll a d10 and assign each option in order. Should be fun. Just gotta get 2 more grim monoliths and I'll build it in paper. Love the daily commitment!
Welcome to episode 20 of our recurring series. Today's decklist has nine Reserved List cards. At the top end we have a one of The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale at $4,299.99. On the other side we have 4 Grim Monolith for a comparatively paltry $279.99 a piece.
i love playing it in historic, which i get is generations weaker than legacy but still - copies artifact lands, ornithopters, retrofitter foundries, all sorts of stuff
Round four was amazing, I love slow prison games! Also I really wish crystaline giant didn't have reach or menace, if it had just a few less bad counters it would be so much better
Ususally cloudposts are more all-in on locuses being the acceleration method, 8 sol-lands + 8 posts is not a landbase I've seen before, I'm pretty interested to see if it works! I think the closest I've seen to it was like, 10-post with veteran explorers
Im thinking the round two opponent was on uro and probably court kf cunning, gives card advantage for pitching and is a real wincon against anything withoht a shuffle titan. Seens fun tbh
Golem is a cool card, but it seems limited by its primary ability. If it were d4 dice chance were: lifelink, +1/+1, hexproof, flying. (only +1/+1 counter can get a repeat roll). it would be so much better and not too power-crept for legacy. :) I liked this video a lot. It highlights how some combo decks are very persistent against prison and/or hate pieces, and aren't easily shut down.
i think a single copy of Monument to perfection would fit rather good in this deck , if only to search for the locust lands to consistantly ramp, it could also possibly become a finisher if needed
does the deck have any way to untap Grim Monoliths? Maybe something in the SB to grab with Karn? If all Monolith do is add one mana, could just use petal instead?...
The idea is that if nobody can cast spells under multiple Spheres of Resistance, you can spend alternating turns untapping Grim Monolith and tapping it to get above your own Spheres once every other turn.
I still have MUD almost fully foiled out (old border when possible then master piece then brothers’s war. Wastelands are classic Player’s reward tempest Foil wastelands.) I need my playset of crystalline giants.
At the beginning of the video, "Think of a random deck", I thought of D&T. While it doesn't play Brainstorm or Ponder, not only do I get where you're coming from, but I very, VERY much approve of this playstyle. Here's to a good, grindy league.
why cristalline giant over patchwork automaton or nettlecyst? automaton has ward 2, wich is important, expecially with trinisphere. nettlecyst is good as a free meat for tangle wire and it eventually can be equipped to other stuff
Am I the only one who wishes there were a separate version of each format where all cards with the text "you win the game" were banned? I get so tired of just seeing different ways to mill oneself and dropping Thoracle. No interaction with the opponent required most of the time. Just playing solitaire in a multiplayer game and being allowed to win.
Should I be watching real meta decks to study up for the 10k tomorrow? Probably. Am I gonna watch Phil play some janky Almost-Shops instead? You bet your ass.

can confirm it is a massive headache in paper
once it only has 6 options, just roll a dice. Before, you use /random on your phone. Really not that bad if you have some tools at hand
The easiest way to do it is to have the counters in a little bag, shake it, and pick one out at random each time

My jaw DROPPED when I saw the Mycosynth gardens in this list. So inspired. Love it.
I was 100% expecting Expedition Map over City of Traitors. This deck is wild

The quadruple sphere line was dirty. I thought you were worse off than your opponent until you finally unlocked the power of cloudpost. What a card.
The utility of Mycosynth Gardens is just so *chef's kiss*

That game 3 against ruby storm was wonderful

LOVING these intros, by the by...

Round four was amazing, I love slow prison games! Also I really wish crystaline giant didn't have reach or menace, if it had just a few less bad counters it would be so much better
This is one of those magic the Gathering Decks that I've always wanted to play it has all the stax pieces, I love God Pharaoh's Statue
Crystalline giant is such a sick card
Still so awesome Coolstuff picked you up.
Colorless prison. Yep I'm here. Just put together karn control so this is hype.
4 spheres against ruby storm is so dirty I was giggling the whole time
Finally, a deck that speaks to my love language

18:35 Actual Thwart in the year of Keranos 2023!
Algorithmic duties fulfilled.
Oh thanks for the reminder to subscribe! Hadn't realized I wasn't.
Mono red storm game one: This game is incredible!

The Legacy impression of Prison Shops

Good old mud!!
I miss MUD :( thanks for this!
Hitting the brown note today I see.
Let's get you to 20k!
leveler is kind of nuts in the green deck in pioneer
I love Sphere of Resistance

I think that the idea is that it snowballs over the time that the stax pieces give you. Both of those suggestions are totally reasonable though.
Not fully thru the deck tech yet but I hear stacks and I'm upset that it's not smokestack stacks, but the d&t stax
Obligatory algorithmic contribution
Mr. Thraben I'd subscribe twice if I could
Is there a reason why you don't run torpor orb in karn or artifact decks.
On what turn would Torpor Orb hit play if I did run it as a wish target? While it has utility, it's very slow as a wish target.
@@ThrabenUniversity Bruh it was in there im just blind.
Colorless it has been a while my old friend
no fast mana like led or others?
@kaziksmolski3429 or mox opal, and all is dust would help; to
I❤mud!
That round 1 game 3 was such bs lmao, natural aether vial and both pieces in hand vs chalice on 2 and two spheres. Sometimes they just have it all…
Mud mud mud!
Wait, you watch Crucible of Words?
