  • In this, my first vlog, I travel to the Vermont home of Rudyard Kipling where he wrote The Jungle Books, Captains Courageous, Kim and some of the Just So Stories. I meet you all back at home in Maine afterwards for a chat about Kipling and show you some of my favorite illustrated versions of The Jungle Books, and other of his works. Enjoy!!

Hello Readers and Friends! I hope you enjoy this video! I just wanted to put in a note that, I do realize that although Rudyard Kipling's, literary genius, advocacy for the preservation of animal species (during a time when many animals were being hunted to near extinction) and the many other positive influences he left along the way do stand true, they are overshadowed by his political views which were and still are, problematic. I thought about how to approach this video. In the end, I decided to stick with the theme and focus of this channel: children's literature, (with some adult reading thrown in), and illustrators/illustrated versions of classics. With that in mind, I structured my discussion and vlog. I am no Kipling scholar, but I do believe that life and experience shape our views and who we are, and I do wonder, if, he had remained in Vermont at Naulakha, this note would even be necessary. Anyway, take care, and see you in my next video!🦫

Hey Friends! I just want to add that (and I don't know how I didn't catch this in editing but...) when I said the Cars movie with Lightening McQueen etc. is based on The Black Stallion and/or Captains Courageous, that was 100% my opinion!!! It's not fact - just something I wonder at! Anyway...I just wanted to make sure to make that clear! Sorry about that!!!❤

Loved seeing the grounds and quaint rooms at Naulakha, seems a simple but full life to have been lived there. Your voice and personality are so calming, we could listen all day! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge!

Thank you for your sweet and kind words! I have to record my voiceovers in the wee hours of the morning, so it probably has something to do with that! Thank you for watching!!!💗

Wonderful wonderful video! I've found those books you mentioned and hopefully I will read them on the weekend! The first edition with original illustrations of Jungle Book is in the public domain, I've viewed them and I was enthralled by them. Thank you so much for sharing Kipling's works and life.

Oh Heather amazing vlog. I live close to Batemans and will revisit now due to your inspiration. As a child I lived near Ashdown Forest and where A A Milne set her Pooh stories. Such a joy to watch your episodes 📖🙏🏻
