How to Make DIY Powered Car Subwoofer Box

- Hey what is going on RUclips, make your music listening more enjoyable while driving around in your car, van, truck or even on a boat! If you have the time and skills you can make your own active subwoofer enclosure for your car.
Yes, you read it right, has built-in subwoofer amplifier board mono channel. There are 10 steps in this tutorial so let's get this thing kicking:
STEP 1 - SUBWOOFER ENCLOSURE DESIGN AND CALCULATION
I used a free web 3D design software called TinkerCad and you might as well use the design for your reference. Here's the link of the project - www.tinkercad.com/things/8JlH...
Enclosure volume calculator - www.hometheatershack.com/forum...
STEP 2 - UNBOXING OF MAIN COMPONENTS
I purchased a subwoofer plate amplifier on Aliexpress.
Subwoofer driver is a JBL CS1214 12" 4 Ohms Single Voice Coil car subwoofer, purchased on Lazada (Philippines).
STEP 3 - ENCLOSURE BUILDING
In this step, carpentry skills become very useful and I admit I need to practice more doing carpentry stuff. ^_^
A 3/4" (0.75") MDF board is the coolest choice over marine plywood. Stikwel wood glue as adhesive. Used a plunge or palm router in cutting the subwoofer hole. Hole saw for cutting smaller holes. And a bunch of clamps for holding the project while gluing and screwing. I prefer using jigsaw in cutting the board because I suck at cutting with circular saws.
STEP 4 - INSTALLATION PORT TUBE AND BRACES
JBL subwoofer box recommended a 4" port tube in a 1.75cuft enclosure but I made this slightly smaller. I used a 12" long with a diameter of 3" PVC pipe for port tube venting in this 1.65cuft enclosure.
STEP 5 - COMPLETE THE BOX BUILDING
Cut an angled edge MDF board for the back cover wedge shaped enclosure. Screw everything down and don't forget to flush drill holes. Protruding metal screw heads are not cool.
STEP 6 - CUT HOLE FOR AMPLIFIER PLATE
I enclosed the amplifier plate board using scrap MDF and plywood. Must enclose to prevent tiny electronic components on board get damage by strong bass air pressure inside enclosure.
STEP 7 - DRILL HOLES FOR SUBWOOFER DRIVER BOLTS
Secured the driver with 5mm stainless steel T-nuts. Bolts are Allen Hex, back steel.
STEP 8 - CARPETING
A 1 meter x 6 feet black speaker carpet and adhesive is a contact rubber cement. Box cutter with extra blades in cutting them into seamless look.
STEP 9 - SOLDER WIRE TO DRIVER AND BOLT DOWN
Original plan was to use Allen Hex screws in fastening the subwoofer plate. In the video, you see I used an ordinary black wood screws. Bolted down the subwoofer in this step and tighten good.
STEP 10 - VEHICLE WIRE WORKS
Must use an 8 AWG gauge automotive wire for power. Secured the power wiring with a 60A car audio fuse holder. Remote cable is a 16 AWG gauge wire with color blue soldered to head unit REMOTE PWR tab. Wrapped the cables using a cheap plastic spiral wrap. This tidy up eveything, aesthetic looks and added a marging of safety.
FINAL STEP - TIME FOR SOME BASS TEST!
Macbook Pro attached to head unit AUX playing the following tracks from RUclips:
1. Bass Outlaws - 3 Kinds Of Bass - • Bass Outlaws - 3 Kinds...
2. The Ultimate Bass/Subwoofer Tester - • The Ultimate Bass/Subw...
That's it, 10 easy steps in building a car subwoofer with built-in amp! I hope you like and subscribe to my RUclips channel and thank you for watching! Хобби
Great job, super clean nice looking build ! Don't worry about some of these other negative comments. Not all ports have to be 6" X 12" slots or 6" round. The only reason for using a large port is usually to increase efficiency and reduce any port noise. A lower powered system as you built does not have that worry. I bet in the van it sounds pretty good. Again well done.
Yessir! Audio system not for showing off but entirely for music listening. ☺ Thanks for the feedback.
Τhe first reasonable comment I read about this built!
Hey man great job! Looks really good. Looks better than pretty much any pre built box and I'm sure sounds really good too.
Awesome clean build dude big like!!
tenx 😉😆😂
wow its really awesome .
😆
Nice and clean build
Thanks for the feedback. Yes the amp is a bit underpowered for the sub but the total output is more than enough I need in my prefered level of music listening in and out of my mini van. 😊
Yeah i figured out that sub is only 250w rms so i edited that out, but it should be enough for daily listening :)
Excellent build! Great job! Your craftmanship alone is a great teacher!
Thank you ☺️
Dude! Your skills and videos are sooo awesome! Much respect!
Thank you M Awesome, you too are literally awesome! 😎
nice i love how the cable management looks :D
😃
CHRCLMNKY hi can i ask the title of the background music you used at 5:46 tnx😄
Track title: Huma-Huma - Not Too Cray
tnx so much :D
WHen you are installing power cables from battery (in most cases just +, and gnd is taken from the trunk) alwayz use one side of your car for power cables from bat, and other side for signal RCA cables from headunit. Just because you can get buzzing alternator noise from your loudspeaker. If you once get buzzing alternator noises you have to check your ground and make it better, if you still got this problem you can buy rca ground loop fix condenzators. Or cheapest solution is with a simple wire ground your rca conectors on the hadunit to headunit cover, this work :) Worked for me too, even im used different sides, ive got a BOOM sound when I turned off my engine.. Using a high quality rca cables could solve this , but its not recommended to install these cables together. Btw nice clean work , looks great, and nice MDF high quality materials are you workin with . Keep up the good work . For my builds , visit channel wutdafuqq22 on youtube. Sorry for my eng , homies.
Excellent job. Great work. Appreciate the hard work.
Very nice work, too clean
Yessir. Thank you. 😃😄
Plug the port with a rag or something to test it sealed, it might sound better. Usually those lower powered subs like sealed boxes.
Nice build.. Oh, I love the music while hooking up box in yo ride..
Thanks. I agree. 😎
Finally I saw your face brother. You inspires me to do it myself.
Love it, builder after my own heart. I can smell the MDF dust!
Be sure to wear mask when sawing or routing. Don't end up like me who inhaled massive amount of dust and now complaining why my lungs hurt.
I loved your work and always your first support
Thanks brother
Your work is so precise...!👌
Thank you Omkar for the nice feedback.
i have the same subs. They do pretty good. Nice build btw 2 thumbs up!
Yessir 🙋
Finally stumbled upon this, I have the same sub amp and was wondering what it sounds like.. Thanks for uploading the vid! PA-60A PMPO 600W
Hello, the amp sounds good, can deliver the right power for the subwoofer. Built-in active crossover is very accurate.
Kinsa man Ang nag ukab Ani HAHAHAHA
YOWNNN proud bisaya here HAHAHAH 🧡

Thanks! 😄😄😄
Nice skills 👍

@@chrclmnky actuly im 52 yrs old indian now working in oman. Bro i hv 1 hertz amp but on that amplifire no bridge connection for subwoofer . Here u hv any idea that i can use subwoofer ????
Good Work...
Thank you so much 😀
Magaling po...maganda din po ang tunog kung may foam sa loob nkadikit sa wood...
Yes sir. :)
Nice build
Thanks very much. 😁
Nice
Beautiful
Thanks Anup
Could have 'recessed' the amp a bit more to make it more durable and less subject to 'knocking' because you have the 'cut out' anyway. Nice clean finish simple look. Love it.
Thanks. 🥳
Wow superb
Nice build kabayan! Makes me wanna build my own powered subwoofer
Thank you Sir. ☺ I'll build another powered subwoofer soon. Sealed type.
Looking forward for that build sir. I will also build a sealed powered sub using a shallow woofer ala pioneer
Can I Use this for home ??? as a subwoofer and maybe add a set of stereo speakers to get a 2.1 system?????
Yes you can but it will not sound as loud like in a car
Why
...very good... thank you form thailand 11 november 2022
thanks
i got inspired by you and bought the same amp and a Dats.
👍😎
@@chrclmnky I built an enclosure for an 8" JBL Stage 82 tuned at 50Hz using a larger enclosure than the one suggested by JBL in the manual. After testing it, as you do so, with Dats, it turned out to be turned at 46Htz.
Que programas es ese queusas para hacer el diseno ?
Good Stuff
good job Bro!
thanks 😄
This is amazing.... I want to make subwoofer like this.....
Yes sir you can. Enjoy building car subwoofers. 😄
how did you create the subwoofer in the app. Please do a tutorial on that.Asking for the 2nd time.
Hello Nihal, there are ready made subwoofer models on the internet to download and export into TinkerCad.
@@gilberttan7244 LPF? Set lang nasa 63Hz. Masakit sa tenga if mas taas pa nyan.
@@chrclmnky ngayon po nasa 80hz sya low pass filter. babaan ko pa po? 6.5 inches po ito
Nice 👍
Very Good bass and subwoofer
Thank you, Rasmus
that's pretty interesting. I noticed that you have a lot of DIY stuff going on here and wanted to know if you've ever tried the ozone generator method of getting rid of bad smells in a car.
My apologies never heard of about that. Sounds very sciencey.
it's supposed to be plug and play, like put a boxy thing in your car and wait, but I've never really done anything like it so I wanted to ask since it's supposed to be some sort of like "insider guru" level stuff that's super simple. I figured with your awesome DIY knowledge you might have heard of it. Thanks for the reply man :)
Nice work
Thank you Dipak, have a nice day.
Kindly provide me with the name of each tool and materials used
awesome video gunna make one myself
Yes sir, very easy and fun to build car subwoofers.
waow nice music
So good
Bro which is good for getting bass inside and outside the car very bommy...
JBL Basstube or this JBL subwoofer in ported box
Ported box, around 2-2.5 cuft total volume for JBL S2-1224 or better yet, JBL S3-1224, with 4 inch circle port with 15 inches length.
For cutting the speaker hole, what bit did you use and what is the name of the thing that made it a perfect circle?
Palm router
Ka nice sa gawa mo ka idol harang pa
nice video
😁
Now I know who to look up on when I need ideas
That is very humbling. Thanks.
ពិតជាឡូយមែនធុងបាស់
Dili mn kaya ang box sir ga haming na. Gwapo n kung less volume lng para smooth
Hola! Disculpa no hay problema al no tener ventilación el amplificador, no se sobrecalienta demasiado
Pregunta?
Gracias me gusta tu trabajo.
Hello Maudilio, the amp has its heatsink facing outwards. As you can see the big aluminum fins, those are the heatsink.
What is that wood cutting machine called and the angle changer thing
Trim router and jigsaw.
Przewód łączący wzmacniacz z głośnikiem to jakiś żart ?? 0,5 mm???
This makes me wanna to get my hcca 12.2 ready for stereo season but I fried my sound stream 2,5000
Nice guru
nice
Thank you
Super
Hi! I have a question i was planing to buy the exact amp that you bought
But the subwoofer im going to use is a targa subwoofer it only has a peak power of 250watts so is the amplifier gonna toast the speaker at max volume or the speaker will handle max volume fine?
This amp is nothing. Get a separate and dedicated amplifier that has at least a thousand watt RMS to drive your 250w subwoofers.
@@chrclmnky maybe when i got a job 😂 I'm just saving up the money that my parents are giving to me 😊
@@anxiety1209 😆
great
600w PMPO is bullcrap specs. That amp is probably 150w to 200w at best however It will work.
😄😂
150w rms is good enough. Unless u have a very low sensitivity woofer, thats a different story.
Not even 150 thats max 80Watts with no controll or dampaning of the woofer and cause the box is small and not even calculated right it won´t be loud a all
1kw peak.. 250 Watts rms
I would give it 200rms
Plexeezda YT if you mean the Woofer you are right
very nice
That dog be like "oh new house for me"....
wah Bhai manna padega aapko
Woww !!!! 👌👌👌👌👌
I like it.
Una pregunta por cuanto anda el presio de uno así ?
Nice job! Can you help me ? I need box dimensions for Pioneer TS-W306C
Thanks. Ok will post a link to TinkerCad later.
What kinda of car??
awesome😍😍 ( bass )😲😲😘
Shubham Raikwar we
waow very2 strong ampli haaa...if that speaker shake? that mean?that speaker not strong enough, and that amplifier? big watts

Salamat bai, cheers! 😎😁🤭
so nice :)
