I know it took me longer to get this video out. I'm looking into a new format for news. In the meantime, what are your thoughts so far on Dynasty Warriors Origins?
I saw some character with unique models that made me hopeful that they are finally getting rid of named cloned officers (And if not thats a let down, and they need to) such as Zhang Jiao's brothers, Guo Si and Li Jue, and a couple others with unique portraits and models.. It seems to be the case and if I am right, Empires would be phenomenally better if they followed this up with one like they usually do. Nothing dissapoints like facing powerful famous officers (when you know the history) like Wen Chou or Cao Zhang, only to have them be generic clones. Really breaks the immersion for some. Its why people always want more characters added despite most not playing as them. And I'm sure it will have a free mode as well....At least I hope....
I'd say the gameplay looks too good. The characters look better than I thought. I'll expect more such as better english dub than Dynasty Warriors 9,more gameplay footage and how story mode would play with the Nameless Hero.

There IS a game that has me hyped though (Metaphor Refantazio) but only because I played the demo and that genre is my "thing". Although I try to have your outlook and maintain low expectations, I kind of can't help it with either that one, or Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 remake LOL.
It's really all the series needed honestly. That and, well, like, I saw a video where a guy was facing lubu without any peons around and he couldn't access formations or whatever it's called. Meaning it doesn't just pull troops from the ether, you're rallying the forces around you and giving them orders. It's legitimately all the series really needed. This is peak.
1. Yes that’s Xiahou Dun, and as for Yuan Shao It’s not a mix of his DW6 and DW9 looks it’s his DW9 outfit plain and simple with a hair color change. 2. They confirmed the nameless hero DOES have an identity, he just has amnesia and his true identity will be revealed in the story. 3. The director said around 20 weapon types will be in the game. 4. Characters swapping IS the bodyguard feature. You swap to a character that’s your body guard and only a small amount of characters will be body guards (most likely the characters that got full makeovers like Zhang Jiao, Guan Yu.. etc.)
dynasty warrior in a narrative format is a win for me. finally an iteration that's "doing something new" instead of just tech updates and mechanics expansions.
Great video! The jokes, the presentation, an enjoyable watch 😁😁 definitely excited for the new game, not getting my hopes up too high but hoping for the best. It sucks that its not the full timeline and they wont go all the way through the story (yet) but hopefully on our way to the end its enjoyable & the replayability is worth it, thats the only thing im worried about
Well, let's hope this dosen't got the way of DW6 and 9 with Koei going out of their way to completely revamp everything. Might wait for your pros and cons video before giving it a shot, lol.
But after waiting 12 years for a real Dynasty Warriors sequel. I think we will still have to wait until Dynasty Warriors 10 before we get a true successor to Dynasty Warriors 8. I feel like Dynasty Warriors Origins is a bit of a method to test their new DW format before making the real and true Dynasty Warriors 10. I can't wait for it.
Great video, man! Really excited for this one. I like the main character's design a lot; that being said, it would be nice to have customisation options.
They should have made the protagonist be your custom character it would be way more successful. This game has a high chance of flopping bc devs decided to force us to play as the fixed protagonist

Also your content is vastly different in terms of warrior content coverage and quality. you uniquely stand out from other RUclipsrs because you do deep dives into the games and have experience playing all of them and your very funny. Your reviews are always the best so don’t ever worry about redundancy. Game wise, I like the new approach they are taking the game, it reminds me when they first revealed dynasty warriors 7 where they took the game back to its roots after dynasty warriors 6’s blunder. Also the darker tone and story focus seem to be somewhat reminiscent of 7. The thing that surprised me was the world map, it reminded me of a total war game map where there are open world approaches and choices but “instanced” battles, which I think is a better game style approach for a open world DW game compared to 9 where it was real time open world and the world felt empty. Definitely agree with not showing too much because when I played 7 for the first time I felt like I was playing 3 or 4 all over again but with new features and it felt awesome to unlock characters and weapons all over again. Given it took koei about 4 years to revamp from 6 to 7. And now about 7 years to go from 9 to origins. I’m hopeful the new changes will bring us back to our familar DW roots again (hopefully)
Wait, wait, that Helmet Li Jue got made me think of one of the helmet options for DW8 Empires. So maybe we get something like Spirit of Sanada NPCs who had designs based on CAW looks
Great vid Chris, We share alot of the same reactions and thoughts, you mentioned the arcade pick up and play feel might be void in Origins and I’m starting to think this might be common for Warriors moving forward. Immersion and long play seem to be the move for not only Koei but most AAA games. I pray for a free mode or something that can be more casual for gamers looking for a quick hack n slash fix. Also BlackKite does amazing work every musou/anime/gaming fan should check out their work!
As long as we have a decent character turnout and unique moveset (aside from main protagonist) then I’m good ngl. that’s all I’ve wanted for a long time
I kinda like how they're throwing a Final Fantasy Character into the Dynasty Warriors World. Also it having a more in depth combat mechanic where dodging, parrying and counters are more significant feels like a welcome change.
I’m a bit worried about Origins but on the surface it’s mostly things I’ve wanted for a while. A more in depth story that focuses on a smaller time period, hopefully with multiple games tackling later smaller sections of the Three Kingdoms era so eventually we get a like mini series of the whole period up to the Jin Dynasty story. Peons, both allied and enemy, being more impactful, as well as there being a lot of them. I hope this game rewards moving up with your allies and punishes charging alone. A lot of the games like DW8 had lines for when you encounter an enemy officer while alone critiquing you but then the game wasn’t hard enough to actually feel like you messed up. I don’t hate having a main character in the story mode as much as some people do, but I hope it’s like SOS where you play as the same couple characters throughout the story mode but then you have a free mode where you can play as anyone you want. Another thing as well is that when they start Shi Sui Gate, the commentator says “we’ll start with a Gongsun Zan this time” or something to that effect, making it sound like you can play battles with different starting points which I think could be pretty cool and add a bit of replay ability. Might be like DW8 where different characters have different roles, but because there’s one main player character, you can choose what role/start your character has. This is just speculation though. Overall, I’m sceptical because of Koei’s track record when trying new things but I’m liking what I the trailers are showing at this point. Really hoping they deliver with this because as mentioned it got a lot of additions/changes I’ve wanted.
It was recently confirmed that u can swap to specific story characters connected to said levels. Which means there will likely be no free play mode where u can just play as anyone.
I would be okay if they only promote story, but release the game with Free and extra modes. All I care is that they give us that pick up and play gameplay in some form. That was a big thing that was missing from DW9.
Hey Chris did you also hear that Koei Tecmo will continue to do collaboration games and supposedly the next one's going to be a Final Fantasy one. And also reminder they did make Final Fantasy Dissidia NT. Also Zhang Liao better have his Crescent blade back💯💙

He got the Imagawa Yoshimoto treatment. Storyline must’ve revolve more around the yellow turban rebellion, so they gotta make him serious for the story. Just like Imagawa Yoshimoto was portrayed as a silly goofball in previous samurai warrior, but in samurai warrior 5, he is portrayed as a powerhouse that Nobunaga struggled to overcome.
As I heard, General in golden at Sishui gate is Li Jue. What you need about him, he and Guo Si, after Lu Bu trasform Daddy Dong into kebab, start civil war in Chang'an, meaning killing all Dong family members(even gothic loli) and take all power for them two...actually there was three of them with general Xu Rong, who was mvp in Dong Zhuo army, but those 2 kill him too, because he want free smol Emperor. Li Jue even start war with Guo Si, who then escape and just becamoe a bandit. This guy end like hobo, who lost all his power, lands and influence, everybody just forgot so he even exist.
After nine (or eight, as far as Japanese Dynasty Warriors fans are concerned since the first game isn’t acknowledged as part of the Dynasty Warriors lineup) Dynasty Warriors games and countless spinoffs and expansions, will guys like Cao Hong and Liao Hua be promoted to playable status or continue being condemned to remain as generic characters?
i think the game will be decent since it's not going to be a true sequel and every entry has never pleased every fan so idk im hopeful for the future of the franchise as a whole either we get better new games or ports/remasters of old games. At the very least this looks like a true next gen warriors game and that is hype
My question is after Dynasty Warriors origin is wrapped besides potential DLC. I hope there’s a possibility that we are going to get more dynasty warriors clone games all pirate warrior Gundam samurai Warriors. Cause I would love another pirate warrior and especially Gundam Warriors game using the origins engine. I hope someone can tell me what they think?
That would all depend on the rights holders of the IP. It's always up in the air with those until they're announced since Koei doesn't own the rights to it.
I dunno. We're only getting a third of the story (for now). I'm thinking I'll be waiting for the Empires variation of this game. I'm still on the fence, I guess. The jokes are fine with me.
im loving this game/// i am an empires fan i CANT WAIT I hope they add mod support for PC and allow us to go ham with their newest engine implementation. I love parry and dodging etc needs to allow chaos and etc to be actually hard and mechanically challenging as well... not just tankier harder hitting but more attacks and needing to be more close to reading and etc... i like it .... i hope they keep it like that even maybe make it better. lets hope for coop. I have major concerns about this game. No caw and you cant edit some random nobody,weapon swapping could lead to clone movesets,the game only goes to red cliffs,and apparently only 9 playable heroes. I will wait till after release because i dont want to get ripped off like samurai warriors 5.
I personally liked SW5. I'm also concerned about literally all that, plus whether there will be a Free Mode. But my god does the combat, movesets, animations, and story look to be incredible.

As someone who's fallen off dynasty warriors since 6 I like to keep tabs on musuo games. tried playing samurai warriors, sengoku basara(even importing some games but i stopped after not being able to follow the story as easily.) I think I'm going to dip my toe back into dynasty warriors with this entry.
Same boat buddy. Was die hard on ps2 until 6 on ps3 then I felt it stagnated hard and I fell off. Last one I played and liked was Spirit of Sanada. but willing to give it another chance all these years later.
I'm not excited about another nameless protagonist. They did that with Wo Long and the story was a mess. I'm also so sick of being required to clear places bit by bit. I miss charging behind enemy lines and fighting my way out like back in Dynasty Warriors 5.

I agree. I feel like sales opportunities could have been higher if they marketed it as Destiny Mode, the game. Which is what it's seeming like save for the custom character.
Do you mean in the story? I'm pretty sure they confirmed you can and there will be multiple endings. Whether that means only 3 endings or more depending on your choices throughout a playthrough, we'll have to find out.

I just don't like the 'I'm sooo much better than everyone else' fake-stoic body language and facial expression of the MC. I don't WANT to play as him at least his face. I need to be able to change both his face and his facial expression or else this is gonna be yet another 'wait-for-sale' title for me.
The lack of customization is a huge deterrent for me. The huge cast of these games is a draw. And here predominantly not playing them, means I want my take on the hero not a nameless hero

They should have just made musou Empires and added a world tour mode where you battle against other historical figures in the era and outside the era like Julius Caesar, Oda Nobunaga, Vlad Tepes, Shaka Zulu, Alexander and Leonidas. Oh well wait will be painful.
They tried to copy elden ring gameplay into DW Origins, and in my opinion was the WORST thing they done. The game is messy, there is too many stuff going on, its stressful to play it, not joyful. Too many combos, there is too much of everything !! The quality and graphics are dope asf ! But the gameplay is terrible, is it so hard to implement DW3/4/5 fights with a 2024 graphic system ? The concept about a random guy with amnesia chosing his path sounds awesome ! But the battling gameplay is just terrible, there is tooooo much going on ! Go back to DW3/4/5 fights, with alll the new stuff, is it so hard to achieve ? Damn
The issue with producing a game with the classic mechanics would be that it wouldn't sell well enough. The way a game stays active is by building a fanbase. KT is going down the route of evolution. Considering DW5 is usually rated higher than DW4, but didn't sell as well, doing the same thing with slight tweaks wasn't going to keep the franchise alive forever. Hopefully we see remasters/remakes to fill the gap of classic Musou games while Origins shows a more complex, story driven experience. Crossing my fingers we get the best of both worlds.

Dynasty Warriors Origins feels like it's a middle ground between Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Classic Dynasty Warriors.

After nine (or eight, as far as Japanese Dynasty Warriors fans are concerned since the first game isn’t acknowledged as part of the Dynasty Warriors lineup) Dynasty Warriors games and countless spinoffs and expansions, will guys like Cao Hong and Liao Hua be promoted to playable status or continue being condemned to remain as generic characters?
i think the game will be decent since it's not going to be a true sequel and every entry has never pleased every fan so idk im hopeful for the future of the franchise as a whole either we get better new games or ports/remasters of old games. At the very least this looks like a true next gen warriors game and that is hype

That would all depend on the rights holders of the IP. It's always up in the air with those until they're announced since Koei doesn't own the rights to it.

im loving this game/// i am an empires fan i CANT WAIT I hope they add mod support for PC and allow us to go ham with their newest engine implementation. I love parry and dodging etc needs to allow chaos and etc to be actually hard and mechanically challenging as well... not just tankier harder hitting but more attacks and needing to be more close to reading and etc... i like it .... i hope they keep it like that even maybe make it better. lets hope for coop. Empires game variant i wanna see is a 2 or 4 player coop man... that would be sick... couch and multiplayer.. hopefully they fix the horrendous desync the other games used to have. and let the P1 have peer to peer and etc. i am looking forward to this new revamp it was needed and i hope to get that challenge of combat in AI terms not just tanky and harder hitting... i mean i have to use a Mod on Dw8e and other Dw games to make it harder so i have a challenge. hope this gives me all i am hoping for!! lets gooo

I have major concerns about this game. No caw and you cant edit some random nobody,weapon swapping could lead to clone movesets,the game only goes to red cliffs,and apparently only 9 playable heroes. I will wait till after release because i dont want to get ripped off like samurai warriors 5.
I personally liked SW5. I'm also concerned about literally all that, plus whether there will be a Free Mode. But my god does the combat, movesets, animations, and story look to be incredible.

As someone who's fallen off dynasty warriors since 6 I like to keep tabs on musuo games. tried playing samurai warriors, sengoku basara(even importing some games but i stopped after not being able to follow the story as easily.)
I think I'm going to dip my toe back into dynasty warriors with this entry.
Same boat buddy. Was die hard on ps2 until 6 on ps3 then I felt it stagnated hard and I fell off. Last one I played and liked was Spirit of Sanada. but willing to give it another chance all these years later.

I agree. I feel like sales opportunities could have been higher if they marketed it as Destiny Mode, the game. Which is what it's seeming like save for the custom character.
Please go back to the old Square and Triangle moveset. I tried DW9 and really hate the new moveset with R1.

It's hard to say. I think we'll first need to see how well DWO does and whether it's a true reboot or just a spin-off.

Do you mean in the story? I'm pretty sure they confirmed you can and there will be multiple endings. Whether that means only 3 endings or more depending on your choices throughout a playthrough, we'll have to find out.

I just don't like the 'I'm sooo much better than everyone else' fake-stoic body language and facial expression of the MC. I don't WANT to play as him at least his face. I need to be able to change both his face and his facial expression or else this is gonna be yet another 'wait-for-sale' title for me.
The lack of customization is a huge deterrent for me. The huge cast of these games is a draw. And here predominantly not playing them, means I want my take on the hero not a nameless hero
A dw with harder combat, strategy, pre battle war counsel and some kinda total war over map. Give me a story mode and a free mode and I will buy it.

They should have just made musou Empires and added a world tour mode where you battle against other historical figures in the era and outside the era like Julius Caesar, Oda Nobunaga, Vlad Tepes, Shaka Zulu, Alexander and Leonidas. Oh well wait will be painful.

They tried to copy elden ring gameplay into DW Origins, and in my opinion was the WORST thing they done. The game is messy, there is too many stuff going on, its stressful to play it, not joyful. Too many combos, there is too much of everything !! The quality and graphics are dope asf ! But the gameplay is terrible, is it so hard to implement DW3/4/5 fights with a 2024 graphic system ? The concept about a random guy with amnesia chosing his path sounds awesome ! But the battling gameplay is just terrible, there is tooooo much going on ! Go back to DW3/4/5 fights, with alll the new stuff, is it so hard to achieve ? Damn
The issue with producing a game with the classic mechanics would be that it wouldn't sell well enough. The way a game stays active is by building a fanbase. KT is going down the route of evolution. Considering DW5 is usually rated higher than DW4, but didn't sell as well, doing the same thing with slight tweaks wasn't going to keep the franchise alive forever. Hopefully we see remasters/remakes to fill the gap of classic Musou games while Origins shows a more complex, story driven experience. Crossing my fingers we get the best of both worlds.
