The wc as scheduled in June- July. As an indian, summer holidays and cricket starting at 03:00 PM, what else you can ask for. 3. This world cup was a true contest between bat and ball. Batting used to be an art during those days. You need skills to bat in seaming conditions and against top class bowlers. 4. The world saw Shoaib Akhtar in full flow in 1999 wc. The FASTER bowler and in full flow in England swinging conditions. 5. Epic semifinal between Australis and SA that brought tears to almost everyone eyes. 6. Lance Klusenser showed the world what is the meaning of All Rounder. 7. Almost every team was strong. Even Zimbabwe beated India and South africa. Pak and Aus were outstanding thought out the tournament. What a superb bowling display by Paksitan in this match. Unfortunately S.A were very very lucky. Pak lost 3 wkts as run out otherwise the total could be 250. Bowling was superb. How Azhar bowled Rhodes was the delivery to watch. Absolutely superb bowl. Despite that Kallis did superb along Pollock and Klusener was the difference at the end. If kids today want to see the level of cricket and specially Bowling, you can see these three teams Pak Aus S.a. 60 runs in 50 balls were difficult to chase.
I had a little bet with the guys at school that Pakistan would win the WC. During this match, I was on the edge of my seat. When Jonty Rhodes was out, I thought Pakistan had it in the bag. But Kallis and Pollock stabilised things, and then of course, Zulu pulled it out of the fire. He deserved his MOTT award, although Neil Johnson, Roger Twose and Warne ran him close.
I remember Akram promoting Razzaq to the 3rd no. in batting throughout this worldcup, and I personally believe that Pakistan should've persisted with his batting order in future as well.
South Africa lost this World Cup just because of Hansie Kronje. He selected 3 fast bowlers despite having Kallis and Klusener. And many times he brought Donald after 10 overs or 15 overs. Pollock and Donald could have destroyed any batting line up if they were asked to bowl first 10-12 overs.
If anybody makes all time South Africa XI and don't put Klusener and 5 more players eq- Donald Kallis Pollock Rhodes Boucher in their playing XI, then they don't know cricket.
No doubt one of the best and strongest team of pakistan with bowling attack comproses of greats like wasim shoaib saqlain. But fielign was like ever worst. Those things make big difference
