Hey Mark; I’ve been watching and learning from your videos for close to a year now. I think they are all great videos; I’ve been installing since 2001... some of the material are great reminders and others are brand new skills, techniques and processes that I’m extremely thankful for you sharing here. I’m about to get on my laptop and come up with a design for my brand new (used by myself for maybe 12 hours total playtime) MB QUART PWD 304 subs that I’ve been holding on to for way too long... time to put them to some great usefulness. I’m excited to get started and use some of the techniques I’ve learned from you and wanted to give you a shout out of appreciation. As long as you’re still making videos I’ll be sure to keep watching. Thanks again bro!
THE WORK YOU DO IS FANTASTIC. YOU ARE VERY METHODICAL AND THAT IS A GREAT TRAIT TO HAVE UNFORTUNATELY ITS NOT A QUALITY I WAS GIVEN BUT SOMETHING I AM LEARNING. YOUR VIDEOS AND TUTORIALS HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE VIDEOS YOU HAVE MADE AND SHARED WITH ALL OF US!!!!
Nice video. Interesting choice of materials that you used to construct the a pillar housings. In the past when I've done moldings I use high density foam and I find that it's really easy to work with and easy to shape.
Mark... I have been doing customs installs since the 90s... However even with all the experience and time I have doing installs, I still watch every one of your videos. Never too old or experienced to learn. At least that is how I look at things. As always Mark, awesome video, great tips and "tricks" and please keep the videos coming!!!!
Hey Mark, thanks for making this video!!! I am in the process of doing another system in my new car , and right now, I am looking for car audio equipment!!!
Hello, and good day to u Mark! So, I have a 2001 gmc yukon that iam planning to add a 4inch mid range drivers and 2.7 inch tweeters to the A pillars . I just wanted to say thank u for all your videos and especially the A pillar videos because this will help me alot to set up and make my own A pillars . Great job and keep on making those awsome how to videos . 😃
James Green what kind of ride do you have? Do you have install experience? I’ve been installing for a while and can say starting and finishing an installation on your own is very rewarding, especially when it’s your own concept. Absolutely use what you’ve learned here and apply all of it to your install. You will have a positive sense of pride as an outcome and more likely than not; you will come up with new ideas as you are working on your stereo.
I just had a thought. Since 3d printing is fairly common now, and 3d scanning is also becoming more common; why not scan the interior of a vehicle, import it into a cad program, find the focal point of where the lasers would be, create a flat surface for the speaker to mount to, extrude that surface into the 3d scan of the pillars, do some shaping for the end product, and make a cavity of where the pillars are, then print the speaker mounts. It'd fit the pillars well enough, if not perfectly, and it'd have the speakers would have correct aiming, and you'd have the finish shape without a ton of fiberglass work. You could probably even make it hollow with some support material, and use expanding foam later if needed. Even if you don't print the end product, using a scan and cad would give you the proper angles and lengths for those dowels or whatever supports you want to use.
Xander Zoolander high frequensies is directional unlike bass, therefore it needs to be pointed at your ears, otherwise the stereo image suffer, unless you are tall and sit in the middle.
Read the comment again, maybe read the whole comment if you didn't the first time. I said the speakers would have the correct aiming, and I never implied the aiming wasn't for the driver only.
I'm thinking about doing this with my pickup. But Fab is not a strong area of mine. This kind of video is great gives me an idea on how to go about doing this myself.
roki buča I guess it's all about personal preference. Sure you can go with what comes in the box or you can go that extra step. For me it be the extra step, I have a 76 Buick Regal. ✌️out
Question on aiming, why did you chose a focal point by the overhead interior light as opposed to asymmetrically aimed on axis towards the driver? Is it because these drivers exhibit a good off axis response or are you trying to present a two seat front stage?
Alberto Garcia check out some of the earlier videos... Mark has a lot of videos showing how to’s with a more basic set of tools... no router required. This far I haven’t found any other channels that break it down the way Mark does on a continuous and continuity based format. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. Plenty of people are here to aid in your installs.
Ahmed Salam get a cheep laser pointer and put in location of where the tweeter is going to be in the vehicle (A pillar e.g) aim it at the listening position of where your ears are while sitting in drivers seat. Customize your tweeter pod based on how the tweeter is located while the laser is pointed at the driver side headrest. Rinse and repeat for the passenger side tweeter, remember to aim the laser at your listening position, not that of the front seat passenger. You can take care of a 2nd EQ by using time alignment in your stereo or with a DSP for when you do have a passenger or multiple passengers.
I know the in a car you're aiming for "front stage" when it comes to SQ. The one car I built for myself in my teens actually aimed the pillar speakers at the windshield. They were more horns actually but it was a nice warm sound that allowed me to achieve higher clarity at over 120DB. have you experimented with aiming speakers inside the cabin? I got a lot of compliments for how that car not only sounded clean but clean from very far away.
I would like to add something to my a-pillars but most new cars have airbags behind them. what's the best course of action when you have a-pillar airbags?
That's a good man I do the same thing when doing any custom fabing to my truck I always get the same part in the wrecking yard so if I ever want to put it back to stock I can keep my builds and reinstall them in another vehicle if I sell that one I did the same thing when I did my door panels dash ect. It's fool proof 😂.
I noticed you're installing in a Grand Prix. I have a 2002 which is the older model. Ever done any work on the older model Grand Prix's? Unfortunately they came with 5.25's factory so getting a 6.5 to fit in the factory location is kind of difficult without fabbing up the existing door panels.
Love your videos! I am a complete amateur and you give me incredible incredible insight and knowledge into planning my future car audio projects. I've been watching this series and your other A pillar installs, and the one question I still have is, how do you maintain precision stereo replication of your new molded A pillars? You showed the light method and that is awesome and well thought out, but I guess I'm asking how exact is this method?
Hey love your videos they have given me so much ideas for my set up I'm about to do. But need some help. I want to mount a small midrange on the door but don't want to go crazy on it. I have a 10th generation honda accord. If you can help me out would be great. I'll be making a video of the install I will be giving you a shout out. Thank you
Great work . I appreciate this very much as i have built my own and you have now shown me how good a result is possible. Makes my effort look pretty poor. Thanks for sharing your expertise .
Mark which is the best/better sounding set up for a 3-way active set up... 1. Tweeter & mid on the A-pillar and woofer in the factory door location 2. Tweeter & mid on a kick panel and woofer in the factory door lacation
That's a real can of worms to open up. I like #1 BUT: What sounds best is different per vehicle, and what is acceptable to the owner. Some vehicles have crap space for kicks, some have A pillars too close for comfort, and some have obstacles/reflections that color the sound. You can try diymobileaudio DOT com/forum/ Can be really helpful for vehicle specific answers.
Can you make a video about using factory in dash location. Normally not ideal bouncing sound off of the windshield, I know. But, can using time alignment correct the bad location?
Mark,I just finished my pillars and now they won't fit back in correctly. There is a gap at the top where the pillar meets the headliner.Any idea why this would happen?
I am making a A pillar pod with hidden compartment and speeker/tweeter I am having a hard time with the leather I am applying any tips or tricks for complex shapes
Random question not related to the video... Is the deck as important as what is backing it? I just want a USB deck with sub, mid, and highs, amp's, crossovers... No touch screen, Pandora, Bluetooth...
Quick question. How do you go about making sure both pillars are symmetrical? that shape you stretched the fabric seems like it would be difficult to get both sides the same. Do you just eye ball it?
Bigchuck678 they probably won’t be exactly symmetrical if passenger side tweeter is aimed differently then driver side tweeter. Either way the subtle differences are not going to be noticeable since it’s fiberglassed in giving it an OEM look
Airbags deploy with an amazing amount of force, I would not recommend modifying or installing anything near airbags. The problem is, anything mounted there with the airbag can become a "missile" and cause serious injury or death
That's why i think a pillar should be avoided and kicks used instead. No matter how much time alignment you do you will still have the off access output of a driver blaring right in your face.
OK so the issue with "highs" is they are extremely dependent on direction. SO mounted down low in the kicks or door panel you have so many problems with interference from materials in the center counsel and seats. By mounting them higher up you maintain all of the details... AND using the proper equipment and speakers, you can easily "tune" everything to sound good. Without any issues of the highs or lows over powering everything.
Dude you could do with making you r videos like twice as long as no and cover more then just 1 small section of the build. It would make watching the build more enjoyable and not seem to take forever to complete. But other then that I love watching your vids just wish they were a bit longer
Check out the next video for this build here: ruclips.net/video/yihuFkrgGuI/видео.html :) :) :) Thanks for watching guys!
Hi, how are you?
How do I get your products?

This is the best instructional video for pillar pods I've seen. Appreciate the video.
+don carleon thanks for the positive words! Glad you enjoyed it

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video and this series!
Great video Mark. This is exactly where i am at in my build and will be following along to see how things turn out.
Nice video. Interesting choice of materials that you used to construct the a pillar housings. In the past when I've done moldings I use high density foam and I find that it's really easy to work with and easy to shape.
Just under 4k views in 2 hours. Damn son, not too shabby. Love your work.
Супер! Выбрал Вашу работу и сделал себе! спасибо за Ваши уроки! Украина, Донецк.

MasterMech77 I couldn’t agree more. I like the community we are building here thanks to Mark’s efforts and everyone else for participating.

Cool Name for your doggy 🐕 😀
Everyday you learn something new.
I'd sure like for Mark to put an upgraded stereo in my ride, so it can sound as sexy as it looks. Your the best I've seen out here.

Once again great work Mark!

Very informative mark....setting the standard for tutorial car audio build videos
This is what I’d like to do with the 3 way blam signature series on my 2028 gmc Denali… thank you sir!!!
Awesome video, Mark. This made it really simple.
Love your work. I learn heaps of tips. Fan boy from Australia
great vid. love the dogs cameo....
Thanks for the knowledge I just started doing audio installation work at my auto shop and you give me such help thank you !
I wish we had a shop like this in Oklahoma
Awesome. Now it solved my doubts on how to mound tweeter on pillars
Looks really good mark keep up the good work 👌🏾
Buenísimo muchísimas gracias por compartir tus conocimientos 👍👏
I'm thinking about doing this with my pickup. But Fab is not a strong area of mine. This kind of video is great gives me an idea on how to go about doing this myself.
Mark's my hero! haha. loving this series, brotha!
nice ..very good,,, from Ecuador
Wow that's some trade secrets man!! Love it!! I have a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix, I've always wanted to mount my Alpine Type-R tweeters up there!
I love that your dog is named "Hz" you could call him "Cycles per Second" to confuse him!! Hahahaha
Stephen Kelley if you still have em give it a shot
Awesome job 👍👍👍. ✌️
I believe this great diy tutorial would be great to make some built-in gauge pods
I like the tweeters in the kick panels of doors. I'm weird like that.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Well done.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU DID MARK! lol good vid brosef
I'm thinking about putting a midrange speaker placement in the piller, on my 2019 edge st 🤔
Thanks Mark for another great vid. Going to do my tweeter pods this way. ✌️out
+2BASS IS 2SLAP thanks for watching and always commenting, it's appreciated!
which is beater make own speaker pods or just use one that comes with speaker
roki buča I guess it's all about personal preference. Sure you can go with what comes in the box or you can go that extra step. For me it be the extra step, I have a 76 Buick Regal. ✌️out

There's no doubt this guy does crazy badass installs. Unfortunately most or all of his work is not for the average Joe
Alberto Garcia check out some of the earlier videos... Mark has a lot of videos showing how to’s with a more basic set of tools... no router required. I have went to the junk yard. Great use of the English language.
Enjoyed the video
but can you clarify the tweeter alignment method and how should I choose the where to point it .

$35 for the pointing tool is a good deal, I started my A pillars today but I want to make sure the speakers are pointing to the same location.
Awesome video, keep it up

Muy buen video, me ayudara mucho, thanks, saludos

4 years late, but front dash sail panel becomes the next best thing.

Great Work Mark! When is the 3rd video of this coming out?
Soon. ;)
Time to check the latest video!

Is it worth doing component speakers in the front doors if you already have dash speakers ?

Went to crunchfield. No info for the 2020 Freightliner cascadia
Do we need to follow any specific measurements while we build pods ?
Great work . I appreciate this very much as i have built my own and you have now shown me how good a result is possible. Makes my effort look pretty poor. Thanks for sharing your expertise .
Great how to!
what's a good way to keep your system running cool? amps & woofers in winter and summer
Your dog's name is Hz?!? That's awesome!
+ohio houston haha, better yet he seems to really enjoy going to the shop with me
He runs at subsonic speeds.
Mark which is the best/better sounding set up for a 3-way active set up...

Might be a stupid question but do they make a hot glue that’s better than others?
nice job
Does this method work if my pilars are cloth wrapped from the factory.
I want to add some bullet tweeters to my back deck. Should I make a little box or buy some pods ??
Please make a video on installing multiple tweeters on an amplifier.
I subbed and liked the video cause it truly helped
Hi! Can the a-pillars still be treated when there are airbags behind them? Thanks!
Hi can you share schematic stl or gcode pour support of lazer plz? Thanks
Can you make a video about using factory in dash location. Normally not ideal bouncing sound off of the windshield, I know. But, can using time alignment correct the bad location?
Mark, what would a good alternative, and less expensive 4" mid driver?
LONGER VIDS PLEASE :(
Mark,I just finished my pillars and now they won't fit back in correctly. There is a gap at the top where the pillar meets the headliner.Any idea why this would happen?
Ummm question..... what if u have chrome a pilars.... I also like and subd
How can I get the speaker rings?
When I stretch the material it always bunches up/wrinkles then it looks bad. What is the best way to stretch material and do you need a certain kind?
I am making a A pillar pod with hidden compartment and speeker/tweeter I am having a hard time with the leather I am applying any tips or tricks for complex shapes
Contact cement or epoxy with small areas, note i dont have any background knowledge in said topic
Random question not related to the video... Is the deck as important as what is backing it? I just want a USB deck with sub, mid, and highs, amp's, crossovers... No touch screen, Pandora, Bluetooth...
Good lookin Aussie Hi Hertz!! An Aussie or Black Cat make good Car Audio builds!
Where are the rest of this series?
Quick question. How do you go about making sure both pillars are symmetrical? that shape you stretched the fabric seems like it would be difficult to get both sides the same. Do you just eye ball it?

I'm an average Joe.
LIKED AND SHARED awesome vid
Rip it! ... wait no don’t rip it. Wrong channel. 🤣
Stretch it‼️
Any info where to purchase those illusion speakers?
Any recommendations for a paint alternative instead of the fabric finish?
Do you have any speaker builds that include E-150 cargo vans
Not at this time, but all of these techniques can be used for any vehicle.
Where can I get those speakers?
So this glue and fabric does not come up when you apply the resin?
what grit sand paper do you recommend?
Is it safe to do this if I have airbags in my A pillars?
Airbags deploy with an amazing amount of force, I would not recommend modifying or installing anything near airbags. The problem is, anything mounted there with the airbag can become a "missile" and cause serious injury or death
shouldnt you go as far forward and back as possible to reduce the amount of unequal distance? like in the kicks
That's why i think a pillar should be avoided and kicks used instead. No matter how much time alignment you do you will still have the off access output of a driver blaring right in your face.

Lmao is dog really named hertz? Thats perfect.
Car audio is hard work
What grit sandpaper?
The Aiming tool is always out of stock. Please start selling them again. I need one.😢
should I made sealed box in a pillar for 3'' fullrange driver?!
Hey Mark are you sharing the stl file for your speaker aiming device?
rchxb05 no but he does sell them
