The one thing I don’t like about the show and the only thing I dislike is how Grover was not really part of the battles
1: when they were fighting Medusa in the book Grover knocked her out hitting her on the head saying this is for uncle verdehan!! In the show he sorta floats off and Percy/annabeth does the battle
2: in the book during waterland Grover came and was the one to rescue them from the spider pit but he just stayed behind in the show.
Overall the show was really really good and made me cry, and Grover’s acting was amazing but the script for Grover could have been better

I really love the show as it is but I do want it to be better. There are things I didn’t like (pacing, fights, Hades) but those things can be improved on in future seasons (hopefully). When it comes to the show I like to say this. The show is faithful to the books, but not accurate. To me there’s a difference between a faithful adaptation and an accurate adaptation.
The Movies were not faithful or accurate, which is why they are bad.
The show is faithful but not accurate, which imo makes it infinitely better than the movies.

For me biggest issue I had with the show (which, for the record, I did thoroughly enjoy as a whole) was how they handled Asphodel, basically completely disregarding how it was described in the books. In the books, Asphodel was the place where spirits end up if they were neither evil enough for the Fields of Punishment, nor good enough for Elysium. It was not a place for spirits who couldn't let go of their regrets and subsequently get turned into trees.

i do definitely get some of the comments but like also ppl need to get the fact that it was their first time working together and it might’ve been weird just because there new to each other but u can tell like by all the interviews they are getting more and more comfortable with each other and are rlly becoming best friends so i really think that season 2 is gonna be rlly good and probably better than season 1.
also i think that even thought it was there first time working together i still think season 1 is still quite good. and the cast is saying that it will be a good season and that they will try very very hard to make it there best and stuff

The show wasn't horrible, it was good. For me 2 changes would be nice
    1. Dont have the characters (mainly Percy) know who the monsters or who the gods are immediately. Give him and others time to find out so the pace doesn't feel so rushed
    2. Just put in more emotion. If they have to do internal thoughts that's fine but what i loved most about the Percy Jackson books is you could never take Percy seriously sometimes

If I were to write a review for this show, as a long-time fan (I first read TLT seven years ago) I can't possibly approach this from anything but an inherently biased and nostalgic viewpoint. I read PJO for school and right after the teacher made us watch the movie. It sucked. Ever since I've been hoping for a better adaptation to come along, and I was so excited and had waited for so long when the show came out that I overlooked a lot of its flaws at first. Things that I loved : the casting, the interactions between characters, and the depth added by new scenes like when Annabeth pleads with Hephaestus to free Percy from the golden throne. Things that I hope will be changed in future seasons : longer episodes, make the fight scenes more interesting, and the lighting has to be better because I couldn't see much of what was going on a lot of the time and it was frustrating to squint at my TV screen. The fact that we want more of the show (more episodes / longer episodes) is a good sign or at least that's how I interpret it : it means it has great potential and we want to see more content from it instead of less. I hope future seasons take the time to review the fan's criticism, whether from non-book readers or dedicated fans. All in all I'm so excited that we're getting a new adaptation.

i love this because yes there are some problems but that doesnt automatically make the show bad as someone watch the show first then read the books i could also be biased as i saw it just as a show before it became an adaptation in mind but still i really enjoyed it after reading the books and seeing what had changed

I love the show but I wish they kept the tunnel of love scene the same like its a cute moment of these 12 year olds being embarrassed about going into a romantic ride they made it too serious. I don't understand the Hades hate people are doing. If Poseidon can be a middle aged fisherman in loud hawaiian shirts, and Dionisus can be a drunk dude in even louder hawaiian shirts why can't Hades be the guy he was in the show? In the books he also didn't want to have anything to do with his family bc it was dyfunctional af. People forget that he basically said the same thing in the books, just bc there he was described as intimidating and in a show it's hard to give an "intimidating" character that same vibe.

    • @vashtinayagar1325
      @vashtinayagar1325 5 месяцев назад +3

I don’t understand ur argument? Just because he can be like the other gods, doesn’t mean he should be. He was supposed to be the only god in the first book to intimidate Percy, and because they basically changed him to fit his character in the movie, they took away any stakes that the gods could have introduced into the story. They felt more like goofballs in the show and it felt like there were no consequences for Percy.

I watched the show before i read the book and enjoyed it once i read the book it did notice the changes that were made in the show but i don't see them as a bad thing. when someone says a more book accurate adaptation that doesnt mean every little thing has to be exactly the same, changes can and will be made so people will have to deal with that. what im trying to say is just because its more accurate doesnt mean its going the exact same thing as before. and you can like a show and still see problems with it but that doesnt mean its a bad show.

Yeah, I try to not hate this show and yet I agree with many of these comments. Still, wouldn't give it 1 star, but maybe 2.5? Show had potential, and I want to believe that it still has, but at many points it felt like it's missing the mark on what made books good. Characters don't feel like themselves, Grover in particular is WAY too confident for this early in the story and his obsession with nature is tuned down a lot. Percabeth as a couple is way too rushed but at the same time lacks foundation. They basically made them enemies to lovers, while in the books they were closer to frenemies to friends to lovers. Tension is non-existent and fight scenes are short at best and completely underwhelming at worst. And while I obviously agree show can't (and even shouldn't) be the 1:1 adaptation, I do think they didn't really choose which scenes to include really well (e.g. they included Crusty but excluded Percabeth talk in the truck). Direction and writing are... questionable, which also makes acting not so great, particularly when kids are involved. Kids being way more like their characters in interviews than in the actual show is a major problem.
I am still cautiously optimistic about season 2, but mostly because I genuinely want it to succeed, as I still love the series and just love seeing these kids bring the characters to life. Sadly, I do worry about what will do with the continuity with so many changes (both in story beats and in characters) that will just keep snowballing. Also problems with writing and lack of tension don't feel like something that'll just disappear because the show is out longer. Maybe if they actually focus on it, but it doesn't seem like they really pay attention to this.
And yes, the show should have been animated.

Wanting a 1:1 adaption is insanity , the Books had flaws and that’s something y’all not ready to admit . Y’all claim that Rick doesn’t regret the writing but he literally said he did 🤷🏽‍♀️ every character was undeveloped and the main plot was badly introduced because Rick didn’t think he would write an entire series he thought it would be 1 book .
    1) annabeth not knowing a single monster was bullshit . Granted it would’ve be more fun if the didn’t know anything about the lotus however why do y’all keep lying about them knowing everything? They only knew medusa . The others told them who they were and crusty ( who I didn’t even remember) identity was revealed in the letter .
    2) luke spent 4 books being a goofy Disney villian with zero depth and direction. Then Rick tried to save his character at the end by giving him substance so we can sympathise but it was too late and I didn’t care . So seeing people mad that they added substance this early so we can actually take him seriously as a character is wild . I don’t care if his mom was mentioned in book 5 , I didn’t want to watch 5 season of a brat getting kids killed just because his daddy ignored him , it wasn’t a good enough reason .
    3) being told that Percy is Poseidon’s favourite and that he loves sally yet he never shows it is weird . Yes the flash back and him giving them 4 pearls was important.
Would more action be more fun ? Yes it’s why I enjoy the mcu . However I’ll always prefer storytelling. Y’all might be mad however o preferred season one over book 1 . It was a better foundation, the characters were better , now they can build and add extra stuff .

Agree to everything! I think these people wanting 1:1 are people who are still blinded by their first read of he book and haven't picked it up in awhile. @@nicoleterego I’m not against complaints but I need complaints with substance.
For example a flaw that was both in the book and show is that we didn’t get enough luke and annabeth scenes . it bothered me more in the show because they are supposed to be close siblings .
A scene of just them talking and laughing in the distance while Percy is walking with Chiron would’ve been cool . or Luke being the overbearing and overprotective sibling when they were about to leave and telling annabeth to be careful /giving tips to survive in the outside world would’ve added that extra sauce in the show . But i am mature enough to know that just because we didn’t get it now doesn’t mean we never will .

@@euphoria2737 You are sooo right. That's why it infuriates me when I hear "criticisms" that doesn't make sense or are just made to complain. It needs to be valid and have a basis.
And I agree about luke and annabeth scenes! Literally one of the things I wish they focused more too (in addition to world building). This is one of the telling and not showing complaints that I can get behind (cause some of the complaints were just being whiny). I feel in the books, they focused on it more by annabeth having a big crush on him but now that they removed that aspect, they have to show more of that familial bond between them. And like you, I also believe there are opportunities to show that in future seasons. I believe SoM is a great season to explore that since we'll be introduced to Thalia, we'll get to see her desires through the siren scene, AND she'll deal with the aftermath of his betrayal. There are so many things they can add to enrich their backstory and I'm excited for that.

In my opinion, this show was just alright. I am 19 so maybe that’s why I couldn’t keep being focus on it and was constantly checking my phone while watching. Maybe I’m just not the target but I don’t think I would enjoy it much better if I were younger. It was okay though. The only thing that is really annoying me about this show is how it is portrayed in media by fans because I feel like a very huge part of pjo fandom treats this show as the updated cannon and acts as if Rick really regretted decisions from the books which is just not true. I feel like the situation would be different if the casting was more book-accurate, because if Annabeth and Percy would be casted as described in the books, the fandom wouldn’t feel this compulsive need to protect the series and treat it as the only true and up to date cannon. And it’s obviously not the castings fault. It’s the lack of maturity in this fandom that ruins it for me.
And before someone accuse me of hating, I will add that I am ok with the show being considered canon. I just feel like those 2 - the show and the books are two separate medias and shouldn’t erase existence of one another.
I usually don’t interact with fandom online, but just by seeing fandoms behavior on Twitter, TikTok and Tumblr, I feel like this fandom is more immature than it used to be and feels like a group of kids that are doing too much. “Whitabeth”, calling people racist for making fanarts of “old” Percabeth, like? I really might become a 45 years old man calling people out for their “woke-ness” soon 🤔

The argument that the show is only boring "cause it's a kids show" is not as valid as people would think it is. A lot of people have this idea where they think that childreen's media shouldn't be complex. Stay with me. A lot of kids media like some cartoons are made like childreen are dumb, but if you go see it, the childreen cartoons more aclaimed are cartoons that have a a complex plot, interesting characters and subjects and they don't treat childreen like they're dumb. Kids like complexity too, don't make shows where they already know what's going on with simple plots, make shows where you're making them learn new things, show them that life is not that simple. Of course i'm not saying that kids are going to like watching adult day to day life and taxes and all of that in shows, i'm just saying that while using childreen communication, you can teatch them a lot of things, a great exemple of that is the amazing world of gumbal, gravity falls, inside out and other pixar movies etc. With that, if the show didn't had removed the more complex scenes and aspects of the books, even more childreen would love this show. And with that, as many adults like to watch media that supposely is made for kids but is also engadging to an adult audience, like avatar the last airbender, harry potter, spiderverse and, of course, the percy jackson books etc, we, fans of the books for years, would also had loved this show.

The Percy Jackson books are better than the movies those books have really good stories

I really tried to love the show I have no problem with the character appearance I love the Trio and the other characters. BUT the pacing was horrible and the portrayal of Hades was soo bad they just made him a joke. The god of the underworld was intimidating to percy in the books, a broken man that is tired of his brothers and the godly family. I just can't get why they changed such a cool and good character into a joke! And I didn't like the lack of action or the decision to make Percy know every Enemy he was fighting against. They are supposed to be kids that are falling for traps and learning from their mistakes. They made the episodes to short and failed the "show don't tell" recipe for a good story. So yeah I LOVED the books, the movies were horrible but the show was something in between. I just hope they learn from the mistakes they made this season I really like the trio they are perfect but Rick should stick to his own book and shouldn't change perfect scenes like the original lovetunnel scene where Annabeths' fear of spiders was perfectly portrayed

It's so rare that I watch a video like this and I agree with all the negative reviews XD The show wasn't good at all and the acting and directing were abysmal. I just really don't understand how it turned out like this when they have a great source material. They didn't need to do all that. It didn't work at all.
