Yeah. Honestly he was in love with her long before he realized it. He just didn't recognize his feelings as love until he felt something when they kissed.
If Colin hadn't said that dumb sh*t at the end it would have made for a beautiful flashback moment for Pen to have of him saying she was special to him
Missing are the 2 scenes where Colin dances w/Cressida & takes her broken ruby necklace while Penelope watches, then Colin takes Penelope to the drawing room to show her the fake ruby necklace & interacts w/corrupt Cousin Jack with Penelope & her Mom in the room.
Something that just occurred to me is how much Colin was drinking in season 2. The flask, multiple 🥂 throughout the ball.... I think his ignorant comments about Pen were partly influenced by the alcohol BUZZ he'd acquired.
