My experience is that ive changed my toughts on some of the whiskys/whiskeys over the year.some i liked more now, some ive liked less now.except Machrie moor (havent tasted the talisker) i agree with you .Keep the videos comiing, i like watch them :) cheers mate, from North-Norway
Cheers, I really enjoyed hearing your list. I don't have a large whisky collection to comment on but I did buy a couple of bottle of Compass Box Transistor a few years ago when it was on offer. It didn't really have any character although it was a colab project with Brewdog. The idea was to pair it with one of their beers. Perhaps the compromise they decided upon was to produce a whisky that was fairly neutral to pair well with the beer? Perhaps I should have tried it with the beer which may have elevated the whisky.
You’re welcome! Thank you. Maybe, that could have been fun to try but maybe you was right and it just wasn’t a very good whisky! Fairly neutral whisky can just be a little boring, sometimes you want something strong or a really strong note of something to keep it interesting, cheers!
Thank you. Really good review. I've been thinking about those I regret buying, but I don't have as many yet, even though I've probably bought close to 100 diffrent whiskys. But I do have a few at the bottom, wich I won't buy again. The worst one has to be Balvenie Double Wood 12yo. Way too expensive for what it is. Another is Glen Moray peated NAS. Fortunately it's a bottom shelf whisky, so I didn't loose that much. But it's more or less just smoky ethanol. Glenrothes 12 is not a bad whisky, but it's too expensive for what it is. Famous Grouse Sherry Cask and Tamnavulin French Oak and Glen Moray Port Cask are way cheaper but still better.
Thanks again Hakan! You’re right with the Balvenie though, in many markets from what I’ve seen it’s £55-60 and there’s other 12yo that are much cheaper so I get you on that. Unfortunately I’ve not had the others or maybe I should say fortunately! 😂
Ah yes that’s a good deal more expensive but unfortunately it’s location. I was talking to the whisky neighbour today about Canadian whiskeys but I just can’t find many in the UK so we also suffer in a different way! I do want to pick up a couple of bottles though this year. We have bear face and pike creek 10 readily available at supermarkets for £25 but that’s about it
No offence at all! I really don’t like it though and for the price, I think there’s way better value out there. But that’s the beauty of whisky, always great debates out there :)
I think you should not see those bottles as regrets. If you buy a considerable amount of whisky, there will always be bottles which do not meet your expectations. It is part of the game! For example, I bought this year a bottle of €200 after I thought about it for quite a while (as I usually not spend that amount for one bottle). It was good, but not €200 good (far from that). I have, however, not any regrets about it. I only thinking about a statement of Charlie Maclean: older whiskies are not necessarily better, they are different. In the meantime I definitely not rule out to buy another bottle in the same segment.
You’re right, it’s a much better way to think and I used to say exactly that during my first few years getting into whisky especially because everything is so new and varied and you’re learning all the time, the bad bottles I think you learn more with buying but recently especially after many more bottles and you know where your taste preference lies, I do tend to see it a little bit more of a regret now when I buy something that either I don’t like or I feel like I’ve overpaid but you’re spot on, it’s all part and parcel of the game and it does keep it interesting!
@@WhiskyWars It's by no means bad, I just found it a bit harsh and alcohol-y which for me dominated the taste a bit. Compared to say Ardbeg Uigeadail, which is 8% higher abv (and cheaper) but tastes less of alcohol. Could be just my palate though. Maybe the 2024 release is better.
Im far from praise myself but looks like im 6 times more lucky than you. Ups. Have not tried any of these 6 bottles and now definitely not going to try even wanted some of them. Im not a person who spend so much money on hyped whiskies. Always do research, check the reviews and read between the verses to be 99.9% sure my money are good spent and avoid disappoitment. According to Diageo and their products im simply boycott them because they spit in buyers faces and laughs at. P.S. funny fact: i live aprox. half an hour from Hinch Distillery but nevet visit it 😅. Have to go this summer and try some of their whiskies. So far i tried just sample of 5yo finished in amoroso sherry and it was nothing special but ok. P.S.2, i see that number of your subs is growing 😁 so hopfly you can celebrate 1st milestone very soon 🤞🤞🤞. P.S. 3, sorry for your regrets 😉 and wish you good weekend sipping enjoyable whisky worth the money Slàinte 🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
I do feel like I have to say that a lot of reviewers love the talisker parley so I could be wrong on that one but I think it’s so poor for the money so I can only be honest even though it goes against some peoples opinion. Oh really?! I think it’s fairly new right? So perhaps they’ve released some newer stuff that’s a little older and perhaps a little better but this peated one was a shocker and I don’t like being negative about a whisky but I feel it’s more important for me to be honest because it can save other people wasting their money on a bottle for it and for me, that’s the main thing. I know! I’m super happy with it, thank you. Fingers crossed it gets there soon! 🤞 hey my regrets make me feel a little better if it prevents other people from having the same regrets! I’m currently sipping on a laphroaig 16 which is possibly one of my top 5 whiskies because of that pine note 🤤 it was my special treat whisky. My most expensive one yet at £85 but worth it. I hope you get the chance to also pour something nice this weekend. Have a good one and thank you for the lovely comment
@@WhiskyWars Laphi 16 😁 well done its a banger 👌 i bought it at quite same price along with Ledaig 18 and both are my most expensive whiskies but man they are delicious and worth every penny. I just sipping Meikle Toir Sherry one which is very nice with Ardbegy nose and some Laphroaigy notes in a taste i get. Bottom half is much better than neck pour. Cheers 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
@peatbull3426 ahh at Xmas I went to get the ledaig 18 because I really wanted it but saw the 9yo CS for £20 cheaper on sale and went with that instead. It’s very good but I do think I made a mistake there, would’ve loved to have tried that 18yo. I’ve heard a lot about the meikle toirs. I can’t afford anything for a while but definitely when I can they’re on the list, you’ve interested me with your comparisons, really want to try it now. cheers!

Thank you so much Kai, I appreciate it!
Great job Ash as I am getting back to having more whisky due to the weather. Enjoy your newer format and will spend more time seeing your content.
Thank you I appreciate that and I hope you treat yourself to a nice whisky this winter! 🙂

Thanks for a great and informative video! We need to hear this perspective from time to time too!
Thank you so much!
Terrific video! Old Pulteney 12. I really found it to be awful and I tried it 3x. I’d never buy it again.
Thanks for sharing your whisky regret Christine! I think everyone who buys whisky will have one at some point
I loved pulteney 12 and I cant get my hands on it anywhere now =/
@@johnrefe Not a fan at all but I respect everyone's likes and dislikes! Hope you find some!
We pay so much more. When I heard the Talisker prices near you I was thinking Sky and Storm are over $100 Canadian. Probably $110-$115 before taxes.

My biggest whisky regret is purchasing a 25 year old travel exclusive Bruchladdich. It had no complexity for 25 years old.
Ouch! I bet that wasn’t cheap. You won’t make that mistake twice though
Another great, yet somehow sad video. Thanks for sharing and saving me a few $$
You’re more than welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful
You had me till the Parley… which I love! No offense but you’re the only one… so far that I’ve heard not liking this release…
Cheers 🥃

Decent whisky shops offer you a wee taste before you buy, they're harder to find these days but it's worth asking the question before you buy.
Very true, that’s a great tip

I was disappointed by Kilchoman Loch Gorm (2023), having loved the Machir Bay and Sanaig I didn't feel like it was worth the jump in price.
Oh really? Thanks for the tip, I must admit, I had the loch gorm on my list so now I’ll look at other whiskeys instead
