One like for this amazing guide is not enough, I cannot express how useful this guide was. DoH was so frustrating but now he's dead and I can rest easy.
@@TheJunkShot I've actually never tried that cheese, although I did attempt many times to make that leap of faith from the tower to the wall, and I just don't have the righteous jump powers. Was easier just to fight him lol
This guide is elite level. It's informative and thorough as fuck, and most definitely not boring. The title card is beautiful, the intro and outro are super sweet, and the way you broke up the guide is great. The timestamps are of course mega practical. This is just so great.
It's definitely a huge improvement from the first version, which is a rough-cut compared to this. Fuck making guides for now though, Christ. Didn't even have time to actually play the last few days. But anyway thank you so much for checking this out!
This is an amazing guide! I managed to learn some stuff and I've beaten the DoH probably 7 or 8 times now and mostly only use the Umbrella because I'm garbage at trying to judge what to do vs. the Spread Shots. One thing regarding getting the extra dialog where Wolf recognizes the sculptor - it's actually a lot easier than all that: 1. When Owl Invades (so like after you gather all the incense materials and Kuro's room becomes inaccessible and you have to go confront Owl) Emma will *ALWAYS* move to the Dilapidated Temple (probably so that she's still accessible if you have Gourd Seeds to give her). While she's there all you have to do is eavesdrop on them. 2. Once she's left the Temple again and its just the Sculptor there talk to him, and he should tell you that he wants you to be the one to kill him when the time comes And that's it. You literally just need to overhear Emma and the Sculptor talking about the flames of hatred (which always happens during the first "invasion") , then talk to the Sculptor after she leaves. All of this works mostly independently of the Purification stuff - you can't progress the Purification stuff far enough along to get in the way of the Sculptor's dialog because some of it can't happen until after confronting Owl, and the Sculptor/DoH related eavesdrop always occurs during Owl's Invasion. You just have to make sure you get the dialog with between Wolf and the Sculptor before Emma returns to the Temple for Purification quest line.
Thank you! I'm happy that this was helpful to you. Honestly those Spread Shots are a pain, at least in terms of getting a no-hit; there is I believe a 20% chance it'd turn into a double, and I *have* been lucky a few times, as I ran fast enough, and far enough to the left, to get back to him, but I did get hit by the double, maybe once or twice. The umbrella is actually amazing for absorbing his damage after the Jump Slam; throwing it back at him with Projected Force deals pretty insane damage, especially if you're buffed. However, I feel, especially in NG+, unless the player is confident in remembering the moves and knowing what to do, it's highly likely that they'll bust out the umbrella more often than they should. I know I did. As long as I had the umbrella on me I was bound to use it when I didn't have to, and before I knew it, I was out of emblems and started panicking. It was more of a crutch for me, and I definitely learned the moves so much better after I took it off. And WHOA. I saved my total complete and utter shock for last lol. I absolutely did not know that this is what would happen. I NEVER went back to the Dilapidated Temple when Owl first invades. I always just went back AFTER I fought him. So that's how things got over-complicated for me, in trying to get all dialogues and boss fights. Thank you so much for the detailed walkthrough. It definitely saves me some travel time. You just totally changed the game for me : D
Finally beat DoH with the help of this guide, thank you! I’m legally blind so Sekiro has been quite a hurdle to overcome but it’s been the awesome people in the community such as yourself that make learning and playing far more enjoyable! Time to watch your Isshin guide so I can confront him. Thank you sincerely once again!
That is amazing, congratulations on beating him 🎉🎉🎉 and for making it all the way to end-game. The fact that this game is so aurally-structured must be a great boon to you, it certainly is to me, as I've learned to memorise each fight like a song. If you need help with Isshin, just let me know! I hope my guide is helpful to you, as the DoH one was 🙏
@ Thank you! The game being aurally structured has been life saving - particularly the sound of an unblockable attack! I’m a musician so once I find the tempo of the fight, it becomes quite a beautiful rhythmic dance! (This has helped me feel the fight rather than relying on visual ques) Some portions of the fight can take a slower feel but when you clash blades and trade hits, it almost matches the intensity and feel of a really good chorus! I think your analogy of thinking each fight like a song is a great way to understand the rhythm Sekiro wants you to learn! I’ve had a few goes at Isshin now and his fight seems to flow smoother rhythmically than DoH. Hopefully he goes down in the coming days! 🙏
@JacKT_3205 oh awesome! I know a lot of musicians who seem to share a feeling of distinct advantage playing Sekiro, as the musical and rhythmic nature of combat pulls at you - at us - so intrinsically. And yes! The flow of Isshin's fight is definitely much less erratic than that of the Demon. I'm popping all of Wolf's balloons for you! 🎈 your victory is near-at-hand!
Thank you for the high praise! This guide is definitely the one that took me the longest to put together (and to get the no-hit demo at the end!). Was the Demon a lot of trouble for you? He was easy for me in NG and NG+ because I just cheated with the fire umbrella. Come NG+2 though, even tanto-ing wasn't enough to save me so I had to come up with a sword-only strategy.
@@Katiecakes i'm in ng+ and it's my first time facing him since I achieved the Shura ending in my previous playthrough. I'm experimenting him at the moment. No confetti or sugar, just the sword to get a feel for his moves. It's like you've mentioned in the beginning of your video, he's a very different boss. He's a souls boss that's in a game that emphasizes on parrying. Since I've not played previous souls games, it's not easy for me to follow the "dodge and hit" mechanic.
@AKMH7 Ah okay. I am curious! Did you know that the Shura Ending would cut the game short? Or did you go in blind? :) And yes, the premise of the fight is "hit and dodge", however it's not entirely souls-like either as you are given opportunities to deflect (without taking damage) in tight spots, such as his feet and his non-fire arm. Even the fire arm can be deflected but the timing can be tricky (and intimidating). I look forward to hear of your eminent victory!
@@Katiecakes Nope, not at all lol. I didn't give much thought before I chose the dialogue with owl, so because of that, I got the bad ending. Yeah you're right there are chances to deflect, but that might make the game a bit harder since the fight is not very straightforward compared to the majority of the bosses. Thank you so much. Once again, kudos for uploading this guide. It's definitely going to be helpful.
@@akmhd I found it very interesting, that when I chose the Shura ending on my second playthrough, if you choose to stay by Kuro, you have one shot at getting the answer right, but if you chose to abandon him, the game does ask you, are you sure about this? It's just interesting that it doesn't do that if you choose a good ending. The game is endlessly fascinating, so many new things I keep discovering that I ponder over.
I just wanna let you know that I finally beat him! :) It happened this past Saturday. It actually didn't take me a lot of attempts, and all of a sudden it just clicked. I've been him a total of 4 times so far. I really like this boss fight now! Your guide helped me so much.
This guide is so good. I was trying to beat demon of hatred without charm and with bell and kept dying. Watched this and beat him first attempt after. The advice on keeping your distance in phase 2 helped a lot. I found that the overhead flamethrower arm slam was the one move I couldn't figure out how to avoid for the life of me. Thank you so much!
That is in-fucking-credible :D serious congratulations are in order. Is this in NG or NG+(n)? I can't imagine how absolutely disgusting his health bar must be on charmless demon. I'm certain that charmless gives enemies double health, based on my experiments. Did you record your victory fight? I'd love to see it.
@@Katiecakes I played on NG using the boss rush mod. Thanks for the congrats! It's not so bad because yashiriku + malcontent locks him out of phase 3. Surviving phase 2 was the hard part >
@@danielsun6703 Oh yeah I've seen fights where he's absolutely annihilated in THREE MINUTES using yashariku and empowered mortal blade. I think it's at a much much higher AP than what you get in NG though. It's kind of like obliterating the Ape's first phase. Also a fun strategy is stun-locking him with the lazulite axe, but only if you can get it to spin. If you spin it continuously into him, it can posture-break him. Hard to find the right timing though.
Best guide for this fight I've seen. After watching it I was able to beat the demon after a couple tries despite struggling for months previously. My issue was not knowing how to survive the mid and long range scenarios with this boss. Thanks so much for this detailed and helpful guide!
You're very welcome and wow, massive congratulations are in order for beating him in so little attempts after watching the guide :) have you gotten all trophies now then?
This guide looks promising so far I keep getting stuck stuck on FaZe 3 I've almost got him but closes not good enough hopefully this one I helped me finish
Do you have enough healing to last you to phase 3? What are the moves that get you the most? I'm guessing maybe - 17:13 - Dance ; and 13:14 - Double Spread Shot ? And phase three I'm guessing - 22:24 - Ring of Fire ? I actually have a different strategy with the Double Spread Shot now. If you care to wait a bit, I will be streaming on Wednesday (I stream on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, on my journey to platinuming Elden Ring), at 1300 PST / 2100 London Time. I'll be happy to do a live demo of this fight for you. It's been years since I made this guide and I have altered my methods slightly over the years :)
Just defeated the Demon of Hatred and this video was quite the key to success! Well made and organized. The no-hit demo was not just entertaining, but helpful in showing how to defeat the demon. I didn't count the dozens of tries, but it would have been a heck of a lot more with out this. Thank you very much for putting this together and posting it. Now on to Isshin!
Nice! Many congratulations on your victory! 🎊 it's a boss that takes considerable learning. Your effort is commendable! And I'm glad I was able to help. And hey if you have trouble with Isshin, I got a guide for him too 🙂
Hey you're welcome! :) You CAN, if you deflect them perfectly, negate burn-buildup when you just stand your ground and deflect his melee fire attacks. It's a pain though, and each hit, even when blocked, just hurts so hard. I hope you had him beat!
i LOVED THIS GUIDE! And how calmly and clean you went through it and every aspect and detail of it, this fight cost me so much, even though i still have not yet defeated him, it reminds me of Manus of the Abysm, and how it invincible it seemed to be at first, and tho it costed me dearly, i ended up mastering him and doing the no hit run on him, even when it seemed invincible at the end, i managed through, hopefully just like his fiery raged cousin. Thank you very much!
Ahh yes a lot of people compare him to either Manus or Laurence (Bloodborne boss, in case you haven't played it). Manus takes a little bit to figure out, but I think he's easier to manage than Artorias, with his stupidly unfair hitboxes (when he's abyss-buffed). I hope you get your victory soon! It's a very satisfying win :) Which will be yours!!!
@@Katiecakes Yes! i did it finally without prosthethics (just the contempt three times at the end + heavenly confetti) now that i am struggling with Genichiro's Gramps, it would be so good that you also do a guide on him, with the same quality of this one, (just a thought lol) I see you are doing a no hit run, i wish to become a good hitless shinobi just like u, regards.
Pretty good and detailed guide. I had studied this boss on my own and had issue with only the dance move where I had 50% chances of surviving each time he did it. This guide pointed out the most basic thing which I had forgotten and that would be blocking the attack. After knowing this much I just used Suzaku umbrella whenever i was out of position while he performed the dance. Thanks for the help and I beat the boss right away in my next attempt. Deserves more likes and views though for this much detailed video.
You are so welcome :) Yeah that dancey-dance move can fuck off lol, even the most experienced players can get screwed over by that attack, if you're just a little bit out of position. The fire umbrella is *awesome* for emergencies like that. Congratulations on beating the Demon! May you forever bask in the sacred glory of putting in all that effort to learn the key moves!
Thank you so much for this perfect guide! I cannot express how many tries I have already spent on this boss and today he's finally dead! I wish you much more subscribers, this video really helps.
Dear Shinobi of the Realm, CONGRATULATIONS on beating one of the hardest bosses ever created :) I hope the victory was satisfying. May I ask, roughly how many tries did it take you to beat him after you consulted the guide? Just for me to gauge its usefulness. Were there any other bosses in Sekiro that were super challenging for you?
@@Katiecakes Yes, victory was satisfying and enjoyable. After I have watched the guide there were about 10 more tries before the Demon was beaten. And yeah there were a lot of hard bosses, such as True Monk and Headless/Guardian Ape, but this guy is on the 1-st place in my own Difficulty list.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your guide helped me beat this boss. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. I also looked at your combat video and it was immensely helpful. I can tell these guides took a lot of effort and it is much appreciated!
Fantastic guide! I love in-depth videos like this. Got curious about his mechanics now that I'm at the end of my new playthrough, and you more than sated my curiosity. I used to use Malcontent and Suzaku's Lotus Umbrella to fight DoH in the past, but now I can safely say I'm much more comfortable trying this boss without them since I know how the attacks actually work. Thank you so much!
I am so sorry it took me this long to respond to you, it's been a crazy week. Yeah I also used to depend on prosthetics for this fight, I mean I still kinda do use the brella for emergencies, but yeah, knowing how to deal with this fight with no load-out is pretty crucial, in fact it applies to every fight. Gotta nail the basics, gotta know how to deflect and counter all the things. I mean hell, if you had ministry dousing powder, and many took a rice like Fine Snow or Kuro's BALLS so you're healing all the time, you can even deflect the Demon's homing fireballs. Just to feel like a badass.
I hold your videos in the same caliber as vaatividya: simply God-tier. Informative, comprehensive and such a pleasure to take in both visually and aurally. I don't understand how you don't have millions of views and subscribers already because your Sekiro guides are quite literally second to none. I'm on my first playthrough and am currently on this fight, I've died to Sekijo a handful of times already but now I'm looking forward to taking him on tonight, armed with the wisdom you've bestowed upon me here.
@@KatiecakesWow! I'm so appreciative of your response and additional insights. Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I'm not able to use them now because I JUST TOOK THE FLAMING MOFO DOWN!! 💪🏽😈 And it's all thanks to you! Without your incredibly thorough guides I would have died a thousand more futile deaths trying to crack his moveset. Prior to watching this vid, his dance-y dance would regularly pwn me. Thanks to you, I welcomed them and gleefully ran circles around his nutsack before giving them a slicey-slice. This is my first FromSoft title and as much as I have been amazed at the rock-solid combat mechanics, the true wonder is how supportive the community is. Please keep doing what you're doing. The quality of your content is truly astounding and I will be eagerly awaiting your Isshin video; as I'm sure everyone else is! I look forward to exploring the Realm of the Dainty Pie-Hole With deep respect and admiration from Perth, Western Australia 🙏❤
Your channel is very underrated and underappreciated! This and the other videos have been super helpful!!! Thank you for the effort you put in these videos!
Well not exactly😅. Since the pandemic struck I didn't quite save up enough money to buy the game so I look for your guides to help me once I finally play it!!! Oh and I also wish that your channel will blossom into a big one! Much love from Philippines!
@@Andrei_Patio Big love TO the Philippines :D Are you on console or PC? Every now and then the game will go down in price. Also I only really started working on my channel seriously since this March, and at the time I started out with less than a hundred subs :) It's happening. Nice and steady growth is the way to go. Have you played other FromSoft titles?
@@Katiecakes I am currently playing on console. And I have played and finished dark souls one several times. Its the only fromsoft game I have played so I may be late and bad with the newer games like sekiro! I will tell my friends about your channel! We're a huge soulsborne fans so I really think they would appreciate your channel:))) good luck to you!!!
@@Andrei_Patio Actually it doesn't help at all to be a Soulsborne veteran, when it comes to Sekiro :P at least, combat-wise. It's actually insanely difficult to shake off the habits of dodge-rolling, and constant maneuvering. Sekiro is the first game to really implement the physics and mechanics of weapons interacting with weapons, as in the combat is literally structured around that, versus simply dodging out of the way to avoid getting hit, or parrying with shields/certain weapons. What I'm saying is, you might surprise yourself, as in, you might be really good at Sekiro right off the bat :D
This is awesome, love the narration too. Excellent and comprehensive breakdown of his moves. This will really help players cut down on learning-curve time
Katiecakes it happens! I will be definitely studying this for my next no-hit with this crazy beast so I will let you know if I happen to discover something new 😳
@@shebnitz Haha I'm dreading that possibility , t yes of course, let me know! His rng and move sets change rapidly depending on your positioning, so, I'll be disappointed in myself for missing it, but I also won't be entirely surprised if you're able to discover some hidden move :)
omg Congratulations! That's probably the fastest I've heard someone manage to beat him after watching my guide. I hope you feel awesome about your victory. And yeah I definitely "cheesed" him with the umbrella on my first playthrough, and I also used Malcontent, but, yeah as I mentioned in my guide, when I went into higher NG+ iterations, I no longer had the emblems to rely on them anymore, so I had to learn to fight him sword-only. And I thought from what I learned, I could probably share my experience and make a guide and help others who have trouble with him :)
Beat him on the second try after watching this (i had already fought like 3 times before watching it). The advice to run to the right was the life saver, for sure. But also just all of it was SUPER useful.
That is AMAZING that you got him in a total of 5 tries. Congratulations on obtaining the key prizes that are rightfully yours! :) Did you end up using the umbrella and Malcontent? They're what I used on my first couple playthroughs... until they stopped working lol, not enough emblems to kill him in ng+3.
I studied this guide hard before coming to the fight and beat him in about half an hour. Thank you so much! Your guides are so well put together and so entertaining and fun to watch, Thank you for all the hard work you've put in - for a very mediocre player such as myself they've been a godsend! Isshin next!
Congratulations!!! That's quite a feat, just half an hour. Very well done :D I hope you're having fun with Isshin. And if you have trouble with him, I got a guide for him too lol.
Incomparably less elegant than yours - with no healing items left and by using the umbrella too! I've watched the isshin guide twice, it's brilliant...now all I need to do is face him 😮
Haha our first times beating these bosses usually end up that way - no heals left. My fight only looked that way because of the countless hours I'd already devoted to him by the time I put that guide together. I believe in you! Isshin is no match for your prowess! ⚔️🥷⚔️
You can always go into ng+, whenever you want, after you've beaten it. And you get to keep all your shit save for keys and key items (think, event-triggering letters, things like that). So just go and beat his ass 🫠
I’m barely a third of the way into this guide, and I am stunned on the cinematic highlights of the trial and error process it took to make this thing. If somehow when Elder Ring comes-out and you figure-out a way to kill a gigantic boss with nothing but a spoon... 🥄
Aye I gotta say, back then it was quite the process, especially ps4 vs ps5 load times, there was no Reflection mode back then so I had to use a USB for save-scumming. Every win - 80 of those in total - meant I had to switch off the game, load up the Demon's save file, and restart the game. That alone is tedious. And then the fights last anywhere between 7-12 minutes depending on his RNG. Yeah it took two days, my whole weekend, of sitting here until even in my sleep I was seeing fire lol. There are a lot of plans for when Elden Ring comes out. Guides and lore videos will be amongst those, as well as of course live first-impression. I also plan on getting the Japanese disc version because one can glean a lot more from the Kanji names than the cryptic English ones.
With the help of your guide I finally beat him with no kuros charm and demon bell. only meaningful change was using Suzaku's Lotus Umbrella to occasionally to avoid damage, mainly during that multi-part ‘dance’ move. Thanks again for the great guide.
Excellent work. I haven't seen a quality breakdown like this since fuzzy barbarians video. Videos like this don't teach you how to beat enemies they teach you how to dominate them. I'm sure a ton of time when into making this video. Deserving of many more subscribers. Quality content in a sea of subpar content. Beat the game 9 X on PS4 Pro when it came out and on my second run with the PS5 now. I have to say the extra frame rates make the game so much more manageable. I'm not going to say it's easy but those extra frame rates really make a big difference. The combat in this game is second to none in any video game ever made. This is the greatest video game ever made. It's deserving of quality videos like this. Ty I'm sure this video has helped countless people defeat the demon of hatred their very first time. Taking the time to learn and defeat this boss is so much more satisfying than taking the time to learn how to jump from that Tower LOL
Heyo! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed reply. I was actually inspired by Fuzzy's guides! And found ways to build my own guides in a format that I wish I myself had when I was having a tough time learning this game. I'll be honest - I have never, ever been able to make that jump, lol. Even in a completely empty arena. Same thing with the Jason Bull skip. Can't do it. But I do know how to cheese Kevin Bull at the Fountainhead. It still works, since launch! It was patched but at some point it was brought back. Anyway! From what you indicated, you're a fellow dedicated fan. How many times have you beaten the game? :) Have you tried any key challenges?
No I haven't tried any tough challenges yet like you. Haven't done charmless yet. Only a few demon Bell runs. Currently trying to no-hit a few bosses before I go give kuro the charm. I did no hit Genichiro. I saved that clip LOL of course. After re-watching it, it really shows me where I can improve. In certain situations I tend to spam block too much. I almost no hit demon of hatred last run. His third swipe on the fire Circle in the third phase hit me once. I do seem to have trouble with that particular move. I have beat it nine times on the PS4 Pro and I'm currently on my seventh run on the PS5. Almost to demon of hatred again. Why I'm re-watching this video LOL on the last run I did not die until I was fighting isshin and accidentally jump/got knocked off the cliff LOL it's nice when Emma gives you the dragonrot charm when isshin is dead after beating the Divine dragon instead of getting it from dying earlier. She just automatically gives it to you if you talk to her during that sequence. Never knew that LOL. I would like to do a few no-hit bosses. Then give Kuro the charm and try to beat it charmless. I have all gauntlets done except for the 17 boss rush. I got through isshin and father without a problem but genichiro did give me a problem for a bit. Lol just playing around till elden ring comes out
@@robk5437 This game sure is addictive isn't it? :) And you're awesome for going after no-hits. I recommend save-scumming at all the mini-bosses so you can fight them any time you want. Pretty easy to do on a ps5 since the load times are so fast now. Sekiro was the first game that I consciously set goals for no-hitting. I'd really like to have a charmless demon no-hit run under my belt... I'll see what I can do about that, how to make it reasonably fast so I face the least amount of challenges lol (just for my first no-hit run; I've done my first challenge run where I beat all 40 bead and memory bosses without healing or resurrecting). I'm really impressed you got through dinner dad so easily! He took me the longest. All three dinner bosses were challenging, but yeah I got them. And I got the mortal journey gauntlet... though... it's kinda pointless >_> I won't spoil it for you, in case you ever do want to give it a shot. When you do go charmless, I highly recommend taking that HUD off :) it'll do you so much good. AND YEAH the dragonrot charm, I did a playthrough once where, yeah I didn't die till near that point and I was so surprised Emma gave it to me out of the blue.
@@Katiecakes yup that mutal is one of my favorite people and they pointed me your way when I was asking them for tips! And yes Demon of Hatred has been vanquished!
Thank you so much I'm currently almost done with my Isshin Sword Saint guide. It's 3 and a half hours long lol. Been two years in the making. Anyway I hope this guide helped you beat the Demon!
The only way I beat this boss was thanks too the adoption of the Mist Raven prosthetic which was thanks to your wonderful guide on its use. I just could not figure out how to dodge the Rake or Mega Trail attacks so I decided to just Mist Raven through and heal the fire build up after the Mega Trail. I feel a little silly for not trying jumping or any other standard ways to dodge perilous attacks. I also had a very different approach to the fight which caused me to see the attacks and combos completely differently and some not at all. I personally do my best to figure things out myself the first time around and then do some research about how to be more effective and efficient and your videos help a ton with that. Spectacular video as always. You make some of the best guides for any game Ive seen. Thank you for all the effort you put in to make these for us.
I gotta say - super smert and resourceful of you to use the feathers against his powerful attacks. They can be a bit tricky to time, since they're delayed attacks. The whole fight is quite complex, as it comes down to a matter of predicting what he'd do and how he'd chain his attacks - out of 26 moves/combos. So, figuring out definitely takes some doing. And I applaud you for taking on this massive challenge. A lot of people simply cheese him, which, I must admit, even after 1600 hours pumped into the game (I'm not joking), I've never accomplished lol. I just can't make that wall jump, even when there's no Demon (or Gyoubu) around lol. Congratulations, Shin-OP! May you revel in your key sacred glory.
Great guide. I just beat the demon of hatred with this guides help. I only reached the final phase twice before beating him too. That surprised me. The 2nd phase was particularly wrecking me before I watched this guide. Because I would sprint towards him after the charge attack like you should do in phase 1. I just didn't know how to deal with his new attacks in phase 2, and it was hard to learn them because I was still mostly dying in phase 1. Without this guide I'm sure I would've struggled just as much with the new moves in phase 3, but instead I knew what to do.
Congratulations!!! I hope it was a massive rush and sense of accomplishment for you, it's hard work! Thank you so much for taking the time to view my guide, I'm just glad I was able to help.
Such detailed study. Arigato! This shall aid me in my battle since I have decided to go on the path of the shinobi once again. This time to the end. I shall study the bosses like you from now, that would be the way.
Thank you! And, nice that you're getting back into it! I took a break from Sekiro for two months after I no-hit Isshin Sword Saint and the Demon of Hatred. Actually needed to relearn some things and re-establish my skills and memory for attack patterns! I'll be making some more guides for the really tough bosses, so hopefully those would be helpful to you as well.
@@Katiecakes Awesome! Something to look forward to on a weekly basis. ❤️ This video is so high quality it's unreal. So much depth and care went into it. You're the best. 😃
@@Jeff_H86 aww thank you! Means a lot that you took the time to check this out. I did upload a much rougher version of this guide back in October, but it was a real snooze-fest as I was reading purely off a script. So this time I improv'd from notes, just to help it sound more real . Guides and lore videos are SO MUCH work. I have some of those planned but in the meantime it'll mostly be me doing stupid fun stuff, and playing other titles.
@@Katiecakes You're very welcome. I thoroughly enjoy all of your content. 😁 Script, no script, silly or serious. It's well made and worth the time to watch it all. I find it not only informative but also soothing and oddly relaxing. 😃
@@Jeff_H86 That's the goal! To create playlists that you can just pick out and have on in the background or whatever. It's what I do myself with a couple of my favourite content creators. It's just like chilling to your favourite tv show but better because they're about games or whatever topic that interests us :D
I can't wrap my head around the fact that they added such a souls-like boss in a game where you can't i-frame roll, and you are just a shinobi with a tiny katana that's meant to break posture, not do massive damage, even Darkeater Midir from Dark Souls 3 doesn't have as many attacks FFS. Good job figuring all this out, it's really impressive.
Thank you :) It IS really a mind-trip. But ultimately, I'd like to think this is a stepping stone towards combat in Elden Ring. We still need to be mindful of our positioning, but, we can also defend ourselves against pretty much anything. And dude, lol. 26 attacks is nothing. I'm making a guide for Sword Saint. He's got 115. :D
@@Katiecakes But the big difference is that Isshin fights with a sword not his feet and long arms, he is the ultimate test of all your knowledge you gathered up until that point in the game, but this demon just demands that you throw everything you learned so far out the window, it also doesn't help that he does so much damage you just keep dying again and again before you even learn his bullshit moveset.
@@arhamsaa Indeed, Isshin is the BEST end-game boss, in pretty much any game. What he tells us when we keep dying, it applies to playing the *entire* game. It's all about developing instincts, and trusting them. And yeah it is pretty shit how the Demon has way too many unblockable moves that STILL deal damage upon perfect deflections. However, I've fought him so much, I actually quite like the fight :) haven't really experimented in story-mode though, utilising Bestowal from the Red Guards, for example.
At NG+5, after a couple of attempts I officially ruled out the desire to defeat Demon of Hatred. I found him to be more bullshit than I cared to handle. However, thanks to your guide, today I was able to conquer the Demon of Total Bullshit after approx. 40 tries -- with the added bonus of it being the final trophy I needed to achieve platinum!
Hey just wanted to post an update to thank you for uploading this video. I was able to defeat this boss three times with everything that I learned from here. My playthrough is still far from a no-damage run, but I can always defeat this boss in two or three tries.
@@akmhd Ahhh okay, I apologise for forgetting if you had already mentioned before, of your getting platinum (which is amazing). Are you continuing ever-forwarder? Trying any new and interesting challenges?
Great guide.. I managed to beat te Demon of Hatred before seeing this guide it's still really interesting to see how all his moves work and how to counter them explained in such a detailed an thourough manner...
Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to view and comment. This really was my very first boss guide so I've learned a lot since then, both the actual boss itself and also how to make better guides. I'm currently working on Sword Saint. It's THREE HOURS LONG lol.
I don't even need these guides at this point, but I'm really enjoying them. They are in no uncertain terms the best I've seen. I'm sort of skimming the internet for stuff my girlfriend may find useful as she plays through for her first time, and this is the best stuff available. Only thing I wished I'd had a guide for is how to defeat Isshin on NG+7 charmless with bell demon. I'm so used to everything else in the game that I found it pretty easy on that run, but I wound up cheesing Isshin and it's still bothering me. But it's just unreasonable the way you basically can't make a single mistake in what's like a 10-minute fight at least, when you can't even practise the hard phase (Isshin spear phase is the only hard one in my opinion, the rest is lots of fun).
Thank you so much :) I learned a lot from making this guide. Looking back, I definitely do my voiceovers better now, with more confidence. But yeah the basic structure of this guide... I'm still super happy with :) Hmm, a debuffed max difficulty fight with Isshin in Reflections takes me maybe 5-8 minutes on average? lol you should see what he's like on AP1. I streamed that playthrough and my god, I'm not even kidding - I only resurrected once in that fight and that circus lasted ONE HOUR. It was only then that I realised our AP directly affects how much posture dmg we deal via counter-defensive measures. The second spear phase is indeed quite insane. There are 65 moves and combos shared between the second and third phases. A lot of them are rare though, I encountered them once maybe every 60 fights. Maybe you'd have an easier time if you stepped back and fought him in a passive manner so you can get your deflection timing down? :) Without interference from your own attacks, I mean. What are some of the spear-phase moves that get you the most? Are they the ones where he psyches you out for dodging behind him, for incorrectly blocking, attacking too much, etc? Perhaps my upcoming (final for Sekiro) guide would be of help to you. It's MASSIVE though, this Isshin guide. I'm not kidding when I say it's turning into a feature-length film. The script alone is 96 pages long. And so far I've recorded an hour of voice-over. And I'm only on move 5 out of 19 in Isshin's first phase lol :( I'm so excited to hear that your girlfriend will be diving into what's quite possibly my favourite game ever. Have you and her played other FromSoft titles? :) I started all the way back with Demon's Souls on the ps3.
@@Katiecakes You should be happy with this guide, it's wonderful. My girlfriend loves your guides as well, by the way, so we're probably going to watch this one during dinner when she gets closer to this fight. An hour? Haha there's a challenge I don't think I'll be taking on. Reminds me of the first time I realised more enemy health/damage and less player health/damage is not in and of itself the best way to increase difficulty. Taken to its logical conclusion, I decided to play Skyrim with bare fists and take on the dragons, cos the game was just too easy and that was the 'hardest' thing I could think of. And I realised eventually that there was just no way it was going to be fun, and I was just bored punching dragons to death at or fifteen minutes a fight. _It was only then that I realised our AP directly affects how much posture dmg we deal via counter-defensive measures._ Are you referring to deflections here or something more? Mikiri counter as well maybe? I suppose it makes sense it would scale, but that never occurred to me. Well, the problem is I don't really 'know' the spear phase to the point where I can do it charmless because if you miss a single deflection, that can more or less end the fight, even in one of his long combos where you'd expect the hits to be fairly weak if there's like seven of them. It doesn't help that it's practically impossible to keep your posture down for long if you want his to rise in a reasonable amount of time, which means that once again, a single failed deflection can break your posture and end the fight. Sometimes this happens even if your posture bar isn't filled. I'd go in with 10 full heals and wind up losing all my resurrections before I could heal twice. I tried playing a little more passively and I could barely ever hit him for vitality, so it was taking for ever as his posture would always heal completely in a moment. Conversely, if I made one mistake it was over. Trying to run away at the wrong time could end the fight. I think if I'd had a guide that could maybe make him a little more predictable, I could have had it without cheesing. Cos I practised his long combos by tapping the buttons on my controller as I watched a video, and then in practise I found sometimes he would just cancel his combos and do something else! or at least, it looked that way to me, but maybe it has a sightly different tell or something. But if someone told me the conditions for him doing different combos, or when I can heal (most guides that tell you this are inaccurate, whether because of later patches or maybe enemies are more aggressive on higher NG+ levels/with debuffs), or what causes him to do his thrust so I can mikiri it, that stuff maybe would have been helpful. Well, your guide sounds very exciting to me. I don't know when or if I'll be trying Isshin charmless again, but I'll watch your guide either way. In fact, that may be what inspires me to go back to it. My girlfriend was there for my first playthroughs, actually. She said it was one of her favourite games ever made, but then said it would be weird to feel that way about a game she hadn't played, so she decided to go for it, which of course made me very happy. I'm having her approach it a little different to the way I did, as although I love the game, it has some frustrating aspects that I'm trying to help her to avoid, so she can just enjoy it. First and foremost, in a weird sort of deceptive way, Sekiro is a community game, I think. I refused to watch guides until she started playing and I started replaying it. I prefer when I can just understand a fight by experimenting in a game, but in a way, Sekiro's death system sort of discourages this, and although it's still absolutely doable, I probably found the game more frustrating than it needed to be. Most important thing probably is that I had no idea your posture couldn't break on a deflection. For five playthroughs. So here I am running away to hold block every time my posture gets too high, completely unnecessarily. It's a totally different, better game for me now that I know this, and I suppose the game tells you this 'somewhere' but it needed to be made more obvious, and in internet guides, it often is. I played a little of Dark Souls 1 but it didn't have a pause button and I had a phone call and I found it pretty arrogant at the time as I thought it was some weird way of trying to make the game harder, so I didn't play it again haha. I plan to go back to all of them now, though. And I realise that no-pause thing was probably just because it's apparently supposed to be played online. Beyond that, I used to love Armoured Core and Tenchu, though I think the old Tenchu games were made by somebody else. Oh and I think I may have tried a bit of Kuon which I see you've been playing. Is it good? Anything like the classic Resident Evil games? Those are traditionally our favourites. Also, Evil Within 1, which I saw in a thumbnail for an unrelated video you did with Tyrannicon. Please tell me you're an Evil Within 1 fan. Wow, you drew a long comment out of me. Hope it's not too much. I can really get going sometimes.
@@Gaff. haha I'm happy to get conversing with you :) If you use Discord, perhaps consider joining my server? My community is made up of awesome like-minded people, and we have channels for discussing practically anything under the sun. Lots of musically-inclined, talented individuals too, and artists :) So where is your girlfriend at in the game? To answer your question - yes, the posture-pwnage of all counter-defensive measures including head-stomps and mikiri-counters, is directly linked to Attack Power. May I make a suggestion? :) It's what helped me with playing debuffed. This might sound crazy, but it's seriously the best decision I ever made playing this game - Take the hud off. Those posture meters are complete a complete nuisance and distraction. In fact with them off, you can see your opponents' cues better. Also consider turning the music down to a 3, and the sound effects up to an 8. I know how the music drive the fights - I would never turn them off. And at this point I no longer have a need to turn them down (since I've beaten the game up to 70 times now; I'm not kidding). But this suggestion has helped quite a few people :) Well, all of Soulsborne (Demon's Souls included) do not have a pause feature. You have to be at a save point, like a bonfire or a lamp. Personally, if I'm playing on my own, I prefer to be offline - no interference from invaders and whatnot. But I DO LOVE co-oping in these games :) I feel Sekiro was severely lacking in what made Dark Souls 1 and 2 so amazing for me, and that's the traversal. I LOVE exploring. I love ITEMS. lol. And I also love stats. Speaking of game difficulty, I agree. Most games increase that simply by turning enemies into sponges. Super boring. It's why I love the charmless feature in Sekiro, it's a beautiful way to up the ante. I'm not a fan of enemies having double health but... in a way it also makes sense because when you're executing shit perfectly, the fights actually last about the same as if you're playing less-perfectly in NG. Have you done the gauntlets? :) I LOVE the gauntlet bwosses. I watched a LOT of The Evil Within and am definitely eager to play it myself. I'd be freaked out lol but it's been really nice to have chat keep me company while playing Kuon (which I would never touch on my own lol).
@@Katiecakes Yes, it's been great talking with you. I didn't even know you had a Discord server. I've just joined it. I'm actually a composer, myself. And I'm trying to make a video game, but everything I've tried has been too ambitious for one person so far. My girlfriend has tried Roof Owl a couple times but not yet ready to best him. That's where she is at the moment. Yes, turning off the HUD does sound crazy. I am passionately against having more HUD than necessary, though, so I might try it. A huge amount of my New Vegas modding has been devoted to removing HUD elements and replacing them with alternative cues, whether diegetic HUD-like stuff or audio cues. Growing up with classic Resident Evil games made me appreciate minimal and ideally no HUD when possible. When my girlfriend is done with Sekiro, we may try it co-op. There's a mod that facilitates it, but I have to see about getting it done locally. Probably can't, thinking about it, unless we buy a second copy on a second Steam account and set up a VM...well, we'll see. Wow, funny thing is we both love items and exploration in games, and we thought Sekiro had plenty. I suppose our minds are going to be blown when we try the other From games. Charmless was great but I feel as if there could have been a less harsh degree of it. So many of the fights go from being pretty easy on NG+7with Bell Demon, to fights that requite 99% perfection if you want to survive them. Something in between could have been a nice stepping stone to the charmless setting as they have it now. I was excited about this 'chip damage' through guarding (as opposed to deflecting) for example, only to find that a lot of bosses now break your posture with one bad deflection and/or do 70%-100% damage through your guard. I wound up enjoying all those fights eventually, except Sword Saint, but initially some of them were a little annoying. Did the first gauntlet and it was a lot of fun. Second gauntlet is rough as I've only fought Emma and Isshin once, but I hope to get it soon. Evil Within 1 is such an excellent game, but for some reason it's very divisive. If you stream it at a time when I can watch, hopefully I can hang out in the chat. I don't usually do that but you're sound and that's my favourite game, so, I'd try to be there.
@@Gaff. Wait wait wait... I... I swore I responded to this. Where the hell is my comment :( did you get a notification from me? RUclips does this on occasion :(
Yeah it definitely looks a lot better than the video quality I capture from the PS4, it's always so compressed, but even then I think you can still see the immersive beauty. I know this game like the back of my hand, so I'm able to answer all your questions if you run into any snags. Really excited for you to play! Have you tried any of the other FromSoft titles?
My boyfriend has them all I believe, I tried Bloodborne and wanted to try this, right now im hooked on a few mobile games and want more free time for a big game like this.
@@amydin4148 ah if you enjoyed Bloodborne then I think you'll enjoy this. If you used the parrying mechanic (with bullets) in Bloodborne, then it should be a pretty smooth transition for you to learn deflections in Sekiro, as they built it all up from that kind of specific timing. What mobile games are you playing?
@@Katiecakes first run in sekiro for me and first run in a from software game. I have to beat only Isshin Ashina. Did you have a similar guide for him? 😉
@@DottorT1982 Ahhhh awesome! Will you play more FromSoft games? I recommend Bloodborne, if you have a ps4/5. I have a few friends who also started with Sekiro as their first FromSoft games and transitioning to Bloodborne was according to them, an incredible experience. I am actually right now building the guide for Isshin. I'll be able to start editing soon, I've prepared all the footage. I'm currently writing the script. It's halfway done :) But my guides take forever to build, so, if you need tips on Isshin, I'd be happy to share some quick, vital ones.
@@Katiecakes I was out form video-game for some years for studies and family business. I start to play again only recently. I have a good friend of mine that is a fun of from software games, he spoked to me of drak soul for years. I never played it but I know it very well 😅. However I'm playing right now only on Stadia and Sekiro is the only form software game in the market. Until now at least. I loved sekiro but I think that I need a break form such difficult games after it. But I am a HUGE fan of GRR Martin. I started to read his book more than 30 years ago, so I have to find a way to play Elden Rings. PS5 is very very difficult to find in Italy right now, and pc hardware is too much pricing right now for chip crisis. I also need some good videos like yours before even start to think to play another form software games 😉. I can wait a little longer.
@@Katiecakes there are many videos on sekiro on internet but yours are the best. They are made exactly as I would like to do them if I was able. They don't give you a "simple" solution to some boss but they explain all the aspects of the boss allow you to find the better solution that works well for you. I can imagine all the work that is behind. And your voice is amazing. By the way any good advice to beat Isshin is gold. I have not faced him right now, just making some xp to find to unlock all the skill tree (even if I know that is not needed to beat him).
WTF youtube, now you recommend this guide. I have always avoided fighting this boss in Sekiro. I came across a way to cheese for this boss and employed it. This time I was doing a charmless NG run and I was done with everything but this guy and finally decided to not cheese him. Died a lot but eventually learned the move set, needless to say this guide would have saved me a lot of time had I came across this earlier. Anyway I consume sekiro content like crazy had to see this guide. This is the most meticulous guide on this boss I have come across. One thing that stood out was grappling in on jump stomp I was always able to get in 2 hits without any problem. Looking at the final video of you fighting I believe you can jump just as he is about to land the ground giving you enough time to get a few hits in. P.S. I call it, this channel will grow like crazy!
Heeey! Ahhh RUclips needs to read minds better! :D But hey you got him! Must have been gnarly in charmless. Were you on NG+n? And did you record your fight? And yeah I actually do like to perform the grapple-in attack, since a hit is a hit and we both know that in this fight, EVERY hit counts. However, I also wanted to - 1) recommend the safest options for players who already have a lot of new reflexes to hone, and sometimes he can be pretty quick and ruthless with his counterattacks, especially when grappling in (for me); and 2) avoid getting hit as much as possible myself, since I was going for a no-hit. PS. re your PS. - Thank you :)
@@Katiecakes Ahh, yes makes sense, I kinda even use getting hit as part of the tactic on this guy i.e. whenever he does his stomps thingy I just continue to beat then get thrown out and start beating again. I have recorded myself taking him on, but that fight just has too many mistakes, still might upload it someday. This is just NG I wanted to do a charmless run from the start as if you have all the health buffs at the start losing some dosen't even matter. I wanted to "git gud" as soon as possible. Still a lot of improvement but I think for a casual gamer I am pretty happy with what I have managed to learn :) Totally agree that youtube needs to read minds better :D!
@@SherubThakur This boss fight is NOT casual city. Being able to beat him is a major accomplishment. So many people make it to end game and can't beat the final three major bosses. You're a shin-OP ;D
Katie cakes, you are a genius. you are super informative and helpful. I beat demon of hatred last night using your tactics. One thing I would recommend however, is slicing his face while in the air after grappling- it is two free hits before he can react. But anyways, you are intelligent and very pretty. Now to watch your Sword saint guide because he is kicking my ass.
Dude congratulations!! Seriously, for not taking the "easy" route and cheesing him off the cliff. Although! I've never managed to do that, couldn't scale the castle wall, no matter how hard I tried. Thank you for pointing out a totally viable point, for any players who read the comments. I DO use the grappling hook attack myself, especially now that I've been playing charmless, where opponents have double health and do double damage (fun, right?). But I thought it can be pretty risky, because a lot of the times when you grapple in (especially from that body-slam), he immediately follows up with some kind of attack, that calls for instantly repositioning, or at least split-second deflecting. It can be really overwhelming for a struggling player to not panic. That said! There are a few instances here and there where we can throw in a couple more hits. For example right before he jumps up for that body-slam, you can hit him two or three times and SOMETIMES it even cancels the move, especially if you're already buffed. I've even seen people hit him in mid-air when jumping over his perilous rake. I've never been able to do that intentionally. Iiiiii don't have a guide for Isshin yet :B but I'd be happy to walk you through him. Just think of each phase as a separate boss fight. Master each phase so you conserve as much heals as possible. And focus on one move at a time. The ones that are constantly getting you, see if you can identify them, and strategise on how differently you can respond so as to turn the tides. You beat the Demon! You got Isshin's number. This fight goes so much faster. He's not a sponge like the Demon is.
When I completed Sekiro last year, I died to this boss so many times, I decided this is it, only Sekiro boss I can't beat. After that I played Sekiro 8 times more. and somehow finally I able to beat the demon😭🔥
Thanks to this I managed to beat him charmless on NG+ and the funny thing is that the first time I tried to beat him was with charm on NG.... Thanks! :D
@@Katiecakes I didn't but I'll make sure to do it in NG+2 (or +1, whatever the one that comes after NG+ is called), I'm also gonna make sure I do all the stuff to get extra text about Wolf finding out how the Demon of Hatred is the Sculptor.
@@2DGirls4lyf It's referred to as NG+, the one that comes after NG :) And yessss it makes ALL the difference in that fight for me. A big emotional impact. Every time, I always try to gather all the criteria to make that happen.

Damn, your guides are top notch and to the point,no you need this or that and have to have this or that,i didnt beat the demon although i dod get 2 health bars done realiticely quick, and the third 3 quarters and a few more give and take combos it wouldve been a wrap,oh well allot was leaned and im sure ill beat him certaily next time 👍, incredible information and explomation indeed automatic subscribe without a doubt 😉
I believe in you!! It's all about identifying the moves that are giving you trouble, and focus on those, one at a time. It usually takes me a BIT to develop the reflexes and timing to contend with problem moves, but once you get it, you'll *get* it, and basically the fight is yours. One move at a time, one phase at a time :) Let us know when you slay him!
Damn girl you make some fantastic guides for this game. You should make guides like this for other games. Do you have any game recommendations that are similar to sekiro?
Thank you for your kind words :) this was actually my very first real guide. I'm currently working on Isshin Sword Saint. It's 3 hours long lol (I have to break down 116 moves), and I'm 2 hours into it. So, almost done? Kinda? I would say Ghost of Tsushima might be the closest to Sekiro if you're looking for something outside of FromSoft. Also Jedi Fallen Order. If you wanna go old-school, I'd say Tenchu, since Sekiro is pretty much a spiritual successor. That and we have Tenchu to thank for the lock-on system :) which I'm shamelessly dependent on lol. If you wanna stay within the FromSoft universe though, Bloodborne is the way to go. The combat is even faster and frenzier than Sekiro, and my god are you rewarded for playing aggressively, AND you get to enjoy the foundation of the deflection-deathblow mechanic via bullet-parrying. Hope that helps
@@hosseinmasumi2092 You have to do jump reversals, or mist raven. Or get well out of the way when you see him go for it. Still only 11k views. This is criminal. Just know, I'm sending your video to all my friends who get to demon of hatred. And they are saying it to their friends when they ger them in sekiro too
Ha, thank you :) I just greatly admire good programming. Someone really thought these fights through. It's quite something to dissect them. It was nice to see you on stream last night too, thank you for popping in!
Felt pretty amazing after no-hitting him, and I made my deadline for the video! I have to put at least one up per week. Thank you for checking it out, friend!
Beat this boss before NG+ (i got to mibu village on the same day and i have to beat guardian ape at the moment) but it wasn't a no-cheese. I had no choice but to do the cliff cheese, and Sculptor still thanked me. DoH is what i would look like if i turned into a Shura from rage quitting.
I've put 1,600 hours into this game and never done the cliff cheese lol. I just can't make that wall jump. It was easier for me to simply learn the boss. He's actually one of my favourites, I'm pretty comfortable in the arena with him.
*I* use the umbrella too in my no-heal fights, but! The whole point of teaching how to respond to all 26 of his moves with sword-and-grappling-hook only, is for "what-if" situations. What-if you run out of emblems. What-if for whatever reason prosthetics fail to work for you? What-if you're doing a minimalistic run and do not have access to the fire umbrella? There's always this foundation - no prosthetics, sword and grappling hook only - as a solid, dependable backup.
@@Katiecakes Your video is very good. I just don’t want people to get the wrong idea about this fight, especially since it’s my favourite boss in the game. I wasn’t trying to confront you. Sorry about that.
@@danalmero374 I didn't take it as a confrontation, no worries there at all :) Whenever players come back telling me they beat him but they had to - with a touch of shame - use the umbrella, and the whistle, I'm like, dude, you won. You learned his moves and beat him fair and square. Who cares how you did it :D Very rarely do players claim this guy as their favourite boss. I personally love this fight, it's very well designed and I always try to make it so I can get the secret dialogue, to add more sentiment and meaning. Anyway, yeah, it's actually kind of fun to take on this challenge - don't equip anything at all, no healing, no buffs, no prosthetics, even take all HUD off, and go for it.
lol sometimes, sometimes I'll make a run for it. But I like to stay close, and it can look really impressive when I'm dodging some of his most bs moves like fucking homing fireballs while I'm inside his ring. But yeah I gotta say, the timing and distance for jumping those fire sweeps is gnarly. To this day I can still get it wrong sometimes.
Another tip: Most of his moves can be dodged through reliably (dodge has some s). For that it's important you don't spam or hold dodge/sprint, just like with blocking. Even his fire attacks, like Mini-Trail and the Swipes can easily be avoided.
Thank you, massive praise, that 🙏 And well, I have the honour of voicing a boss, Alestra, in the new indie Soulslike, Codex Lost. It'll be trippy when I get to her and basically fight myself lol.
@Katiecakes Wow that's so cool!! I will check the game out. Keep up the awesome boss guides as well, I love them. I can only imagine how much effort and time you put in them.
@karma_kar9623 the game is already out! 🎉🎉🎉 I just got done streaming a bit of it today 🙂 it's on PS5 and steam. And thank you, the guides are always worth it as long as I know they've helped someone out there 🙏
lol, the dancey-dance move? I've actually changed my maneuvers for that one a little. Sometimes I can be inconsistent when "driving" that way, and a foot stomp will get me. It's still the same principle of staying beneath him. It's actually kind of hard to explain verbally. I'll show you next Friday :) So did you beat him? Or need a little more time in the ring?

After watching the guide, i feel like the DoH is an exam to see if you can still use Dark Souls techniques, since the rest of the game gets rid of traditional Souls gameplay. The biggest influence Sekiro hit me with is spamming parry. “Iframes? What’s that?” -Sekiro, Killer Of Gamers.
yeaaaah but, I would advise against spamming the block button. It's all very precise timing, like hitting notes on a musical instrument. The thing with the Demon is that maneuvering and positioning is crucial in this fight. Not to say that it doesn't apply to all other fights, because staying close, being mindful of your corners, and always pushing towards your opponent, is the key to success. But with the Demon, it's so much more specific, and, similar to SoulsBorne, whether you stick to the right or the left is what will determines the outcome. That's not to say deflecting isn't *also* a thing in this fight. It's just a LOT of running around, where moves are evaded rather than deflected (unless with the fire brella).
That's actually my favorite mechanic, sticking to a specific angle of the boss that gives you free hits. Sometimes my goal is to get to their backs (I use this to get viscerals in Bloodborne) because some bosses have punishers for the sides. Sekiro takes that away, it's a real testament for your timing. I watched a short video (watched like half a second for it) and right from start-run Reservoir, i could L1 to perfection. Sekiro's combat is so fricking good, it molds you into gitting gud. I believe the combat system is designed for you to become good over time, a sort of program that pushes you into defeating it's punishing difficulty. Sekiro is so gosh dang good. I swore Playthrough 3 would be my last, but now i'm gonna grind to 99 attack power for Playthrough 4. My point: Sekiro focuses on timing, while leaving a pinch (maybe a spoonful) of getting to certain angle of enemies for R1 victory.
I hate this fucking boss. As a Souls player, I thought I could take him down fairly easily.... until I played him. I don’t even know anymore, I’m getting better but some moves just come out of no where and get one shotted Great guide though, the only thing I will disagree with is the rarity of the last swipe on his dance move 17:30. The bastard gets me with that a lot, if you dodge in toward his left it usually misses but he still gets me. Thanks for the tips, now it’s time to hopefully kill his third phase!
Thank you for watching my guide! He took me a long time to figure out how to beat sword-only. I scraped by him in my first playthrough mostly by panicking behind the fire umbrella, but once I was in NG+2, even with the higher AP granted by the Dancer's Mask, I always ran out of emblems, so I decided it was necessary to learn all his moves so I know how to react to them. He has good windup times, for you to decide what move to make within a second or so, which is generous. As for the last swipe of the Dance move, I think I only generated that AI depending on my positioning. When I stayed directly underneath him, which is almost always, the swipe never happened. If he still swipes, if you deflect (not block) at the last second, it takes very little health and fire damage. I'm here to help if you're still having trouble!
Katiecakes I finally beat him a few days ago, which felt great lol. The main thing was just learning his move set but you definitely helped me out with a few of your tips! I was hoping to finally beat Sekiro before Nioh 2 came out but didn’t happen so I’ll have to come back for Isshin. You are totally right. That last swipe always happened if I was in front of him but always trying to stay back and to the left, close to him helps to not trigger that. Thanks for your help 😊 I’m sure a lot of people appreciate the information you’re sharing! Hope to see you do some Nioh 2 guides 😉. Anyway, to show my thanks you have a new sub.
@@TheJunkShot So awesome! Really happy for you. It definitely feels amazing taking down these major bosses, especially the final three. I wonder if Isshin won't be so much trouble for you. There's a player who watched my guide, beat the Demon and then beat Isshin in just ONE GO, apparently because he's so much slower and easier to telegraph. If you need help with Isshin, I'll be here :) I'm currently playing through Bloodborne and kind of sucking at it because I forgot all about the dance, and that ENDURANCE BAR. Nioh 2 is on my list but sadly will have to wait - my list for 2020 is so long lol. Again, congratulations. True ShinOP of the realm.
Absolutely, I play charmless demon now too, in NG+11 (which is the same as NG+7) with the hud off, and yeah for one, this fight goes ON for a WHILE in Reflections, and it's definitely unforgiving when it comes to blocking, hell even deflecting some of his fire moves takes off a massive chunk of health.
@@Katiecakes you should make a guide on this I’m currently on this boss right now on NG+7 I’m about to platinum the game but I Just need to kill the demon and Ishin for the final ending
@@Katiecakes fuck that my mom didn’t raise no bitch im killing him this week thanks to your guide it helped me get comfortable with his attacks your guide really helped a lot I hope more people see this it deserve it

@@Kara_Pabuc Like I said in the intro, it's the kind of guide I wish I had. I'll make a couple more for the really challenging bosses, but that and lore videos are so time-consuming. I need to still PLAY games and ones other than Sekiro too lol. I'm keeping up with putting out quality content with a lot of variety, and I'm sure the growth will come in time. I just really enjoy being able to connect with players from everywhere, sharing the love we all have for our favourite games (or expressing our loathing for the ones we hate). Thank you again for checking this out
ok, can I just say, I always feel a little sad slapping DoH’s dangly bits with a katana. I’ve never come forward publicly with this take, I hope you guys can relate
One like for this amazing guide is not enough, I cannot express how useful this guide was. DoH was so frustrating but now he's dead and I can rest easy.
That's awesome, I'm glad I was able to help out. It's all about finding the fun.
And you didn’t make him fall off a cliff! I solute you sir
@@TheJunkShot I've actually never tried that cheese, although I did attempt many times to make that leap of faith from the tower to the wall, and I just don't have the righteous jump powers. Was easier just to fight him lol
It really isn't fair for all this work to go so unnoticed. The theoretical ideal of a boss guide right here.
Thank you so much for the high praise
One thing regarding getting the extra dialog where Wolf recognizes the sculptor - it's actually a lot easier than all that:
2. Once she's left the Temple again and its just the Sculptor there talk to him, and he should tell you that he wants you to be the one to kill him when the time comes
And that's it.
Amazing guide! I was having a hard time trying to evade the big trail and the 3rd phase perilous attack but your tips made it a lot easier. Thank you!
You're very welcome! Congratulations on beating this incredibly challenging boss!
This is one of those videos where even the clickbait titles don't do it justice. Great job with this, very descriptive and thorough.
And yes, the premise of the fight is "hit and dodge", however it's not entirely souls-like either as you are given opportunities to deflect (without taking damage) in tight spots, such as his feet and his non-fire arm.
That always makes me happy to hear, as it's the whole point of why I make guides in the first place

Do you have enough healing to last you to phase 3?
What are the moves that get you the most? I'm guessing maybe -
17:13 - Dance ; and
13:14 - Double Spread Shot ?
And phase three I'm guessing -
22:24 - Ring of Fire ?

Wow thank you for taking the time to watch all the 4 hours 🥲 I'm grateful, and wishing you the keyest success! You got this ⚔️
Amazing guide!
Thank you so much for this!
I was struggling with his melee fire attacks mostly
Hey you're welcome! :)
You CAN, if you deflect them perfectly, negate burn-buildup when you just stand your ground and deflect his melee fire attacks. It's a pain though, and each hit, even when blocked, just hurts so hard.
I hope you had him beat!
@@Katiecakes Yeah I beat him thanks!
I have no problem deflecting the attacks but even if you do you take chip damage which sucks
i LOVED THIS GUIDE!
@@Katiecakes Thanks again :)
Thank you :) Yeah lol these guides are definitely an endeavour and take a few months prep at least. I'm grateful that I'm able to help!

This will really help players cut down on learning-curve time
Can you imagine how terrifying it is if I were to encounter a move/rng that I actually managed to miss? lol.
Thank you so much for this guide! 🥰 I've watched it yesterday and beaten him on my first try today
omg
Congratulations!
Did you end up using the umbrella and Malcontent? They're what I used on my first couple playthroughs... until they stopped working lol, not enough emblems to kill him in ng+3.

Your guides are so well put together and so entertaining and fun to watch, Thank you for all the hard work you've put in - for a very mediocre player such as myself they've been a godsend! Isshin next!
Congratulations!!! That's quite a feat, just half an hour. Very well done :D
I hope you're having fun with Isshin.
I think I'm probably putting it off now because I don't want the game to finish! It's been such an experience!
@@Katiecakes OMG. That's crazy. Lol. That's awesome about the Kanji. Props to knowing more than one language. Critical skills in the world of today.
Look what I found :)
While responding to a new comment.
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
The attention to detail in this guide is impressive.
Thank you for the high praise, Nathan. I hope your conquest of this boss happens with key swiftness.
Amazing guide! Super helpful for a boss I had a feeling was just something I wasn't gonna be able to do thanks for you're hard work!
I heard from a mutual friend that you are a mutual friend
@@Katiecakes yup that mutal is one of my favorite people and they pointed me your way when I was asking them for tips! And yes Demon of Hatred has been vanquished!
Amazing guide. The amount of work put into this, i'm completely blown away. thank you for sharing
Thank you so much
I'm currently almost done with my Isshin Sword Saint guide. It's 3 and a half hours long lol. Been two years in the making.
Anyway I hope this guide helped you beat the Demon!
So nice of you to make this guide. Thank you so much I’m grateful
So nice of you to take the time to watch! I hope you beat him soon! Please tell me when you do!
Best guide on youtube for the Demon of Hatred. Hoping to see you make more guides soon~
I'll be done ONE MORE - Isshin Sword Saint.
Yaaay! New content! Amazing as always.
Thank you
@@Katiecakes Awesome!

Amazing! And you're welcome :) So you're on NG+2, now? Going for platinum?

Great guide.. I managed to beat te Demon of Hatred before seeing this guide it's still really interesting to see how all his moves work and how to counter them explained in such a detailed an thourough manner...
Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to view and comment. This really was my very first boss guide so I've learned a lot since then, both the actual boss itself and also how to make better guides. I'm currently working on Sword Saint. It's THREE HOURS LONG lol.
@@Katiecakes Ok interesting, that's the boss I'm at now, and I only managed to get to his last phase..
I'm still super happy with :)
Hmm, a debuffed max difficulty fight with Isshin in Reflections takes me maybe 5-8 minutes on average? lol you should see what he's like on AP1.
And I'm only on move 5 out of 19 in Isshin's first phase lol :(
I'm so excited to hear that your girlfriend will be diving into what's quite possibly my favourite game ever.
_It was only then that I realised our AP directly affects how much posture dmg we deal via counter-defensive measures._
Are you referring to deflections here or something more?
Lots of musically-inclined, talented individuals too, and artists :)
So where is your girlfriend at in the game?
To answer your question - yes, the posture-pwnage of all counter-defensive measures including head-stomps and mikiri-counters,
is directly linked to Attack Power.
May I make a suggestion? :) It's what helped me with playing debuffed. This might sound crazy, but it's seriously the best decision I ever made playing this game -
Take the hud off.
But this suggestion has helped quite a few people :)
Well, all of Soulsborne (Demon's Souls included) do not have a pause feature. You have to be at a save point, like a bonfire or a lamp. Personally, if I'm playing on my own, I prefer to be offline - no interference from invaders and whatnot. But I DO LOVE co-oping in these games :)
I feel Sekiro was severely lacking in what made Dark Souls 1 and 2 so amazing for me, and that's the traversal.

@@amydin4148 ah if you enjoyed Bloodborne then I think you'll enjoy this. If you used the parrying mechanic (with bullets) in Bloodborne, then it should be a pretty smooth transition for you to learn deflections in Sekiro, as they built it all up from that kind of specific timing.

However, I also wanted to -
1) recommend the safest options for players who already have a lot of new reflexes to hone, and sometimes he can be pretty quick and ruthless with his counterattacks, especially when grappling in (for me); and
2) avoid getting hit as much as possible myself, since I was going for a no-hit.
PS.
Still a lot of improvement but I think for a casual gamer I am pretty happy with what I have managed to learn :)
Totally agree that youtube needs to read minds better :D!
@@SherubThakur This boss fight is NOT casual city. Being able to beat him is a major accomplishment. So many people make it to end game and can't beat the final three major bosses. You're a shin-OP ;D
@@Katiecakes shin-OP, :D :D. Nice I am going to copy that!

And yessss it makes ALL the difference in that fight for me. A big emotional impact. Every time, I always try to gather all the criteria to make that happen.
@@Katiecakes wait, so if I'm currently on NG+, does that mean that my next playthrough will be "NG+1" or "NG+2"?
@@2DGirls4lyf This is how each game cycle is referred to:
NG = New Game, or 1st playthrough
NG+ = 2nd playthrough
NG+2 = 3rd playthrough
NG+3 = 4th playthrough
NG+4 = 5th playthrough
NG+5 = 6th playthrough
NG+6= 7the playthrough
NG+7 = 8th playthrough, or MAX difficulty in SoulsBorne and Sekiro.

One move at a time, one phase at a time :)
Let us know when you slay him!
Love your guides!
Thank you so much! I'm currently building the Sword Saint one... it's three hours long lol.
Great video. Subscribed. Greetings from Norway/Pakistan :)
Thank you so much
Best guide ever on a boss for sekiro
Thank you :) I hope it helped.
@@Katiecakes right now i m stuck on isshin he always beat me on his third phase with his lighting how should i deflect that? Can you please help me❤❤
@@hosseinmasumi2092 You have to do jump reversals, or mist raven. Or get well out of the way when you see him go for it.
I have a super old guide on how to do this, so I apologise for the audio quality of my shitty mic back then.
Here it is, timestamped at how to nail the timing for reversing Isshin's lightning.

So what ending did you go for?
Still only 11k views. This is criminal.
Just know, I'm sending your video to all my friends who get to demon of hatred. And they are saying it to their friends when they ger them in sekiro too
Thank you very much for your kind endeavours. I hope your friends would be able to find swift victories against the Demon!
I beat him, thanks for the guide it helped a bunch
Congratulations! I hope you felt amazing
Now this is the type of people i mix with...People that really appreciate gaming!!!!
Ha, thank you :) I just greatly admire good programming. Someone really thought these fights through. It's quite something to dissect them.
It was nice to see you on stream last night too, thank you for popping in!
Thank you for your guide Katie. It's still useful until today. I just killed my DoH using your guide!
Yaaaaay congratulations 🎊 must have felt good getting that Battle Memory, the Lapis, and the trophy!
You are AMAZING 😮🤯
Felt pretty amazing after no-hitting him, and I made my deadline for the video! I have to put at least one up per week. Thank you for checking it out, friend!
GOD BLESS THIS WOMEN 😭
Thank you :)
I found Nightjar Slash Reversal to be a useful combat art against him, especially after his mini trail.
I would LOVE to see that, because other than MD or EMD, I don't often see the use of combat arts against him :) Do you have anything recorded?
@@Katiecakes unfortunately, no ):
Beat this boss before NG+ (i got to mibu village on the same day and i have to beat guardian ape at the moment) but it wasn't a no-cheese. I had no choice but to do the cliff cheese, and Sculptor still thanked me.
DoH is what i would look like if i turned into a Shura from rage quitting.
I've put 1,600 hours into this game and never done the cliff cheese lol. I just can't make that wall jump. It was easier for me to simply learn the boss. He's actually one of my favourites, I'm pretty comfortable in the arena with him.
6:55 grappel was sick and freaking wp with no dmg wtf
Thank you
Thanks again
You're welcome. Did you get him? :)
I urge everyone struggling with this boss to use the umbrella. It can deflect his fire melee attacks, thus giving you more options.
Who cares how you did it :D
Very rarely do players claim this guy as their favourite boss.
You are my inspiration..
I hope you beat my guide helps you beat this boss soon, if you haven't already :D
Nice video ❤️️
Thank you :)
As SOON as I see him start the ring of Fire I’m all..nope fuck this I’m out. And I book it to the other side of the battlefield 😂
lol sometimes, sometimes I'll make a run for it.
Thank you
Thank YOU Hope you were able to beat him!
Another tip: Most of his moves can be dodged through reliably (dodge has some s). For that it's important you don't spam or hold dodge/sprint, just like with blocking. Even his fire attacks, like Mini-Trail and the Swipes can easily be avoided.
Indeed :) I did recommend to dodge/run those particular moves you mentioned.
Thank you!!!!!!!
You're most welcome! I hope you feel amazing from beating him!
You have similar voice to Melina, Elden Ring 🔥
Thank you, massive praise, that 🙏 And well, I have the honour of voicing a boss, Alestra, in the new indie Soulslike, Codex Lost. It'll be trippy when I get to her and basically fight myself lol.
@Katiecakes Wow that's so cool!! I will check the game out.
Keep up the awesome boss guides as well, I love them. I can only imagine how much effort and time you put in them.
@karma_kar9623 the game is already out! 🎉🎉🎉 I just got done streaming a bit of it today 🙂 it's on PS5 and steam.
And thank you, the guides are always worth it as long as I know they've helped someone out there 🙏
Wonderful guide as always! Needed help with this guy. I loved the part about moving to the right underneath his nutsack lol
lol, the dancey-dance move? I've actually changed my maneuvers for that one a little. Sometimes I can be inconsistent when "driving" that way, and a foot stomp will get me. It's still the same principle of staying beneath him. It's actually kind of hard to explain verbally. I'll show you next Friday :)
So did you beat him? Or need a little more time in the ring?
@@Katiecakes I did get him! :D I actually posted about it in the Discord when I did, because this video helped me a lot with understanding his moves. I'd love to watch you play him sometime again so I can see your new methods :)
@@justpeachyrl Ahh I'm sorry I was so swamped yesterday, I didn't get a chance to check Discord :( Congratulations on getting him!! And acquiring the attack power and Lapis that are rightfully yours!
I'm playing Sekiro tomorrow night, which I do every Friday. I'd be happy to go into Reflections to show you :) I might change my usual stream time to noon PST, but I'll need to put out a poll to be sure if that's what people want :>
@@Katiecakes Awesome! I will keep an eye out so I can catch the stream! :D And it's no worries at all! I know your job is very busy keeping up with the content and the community. I wouldn't expect you to be able to ready every message :P
@@justpeachyrl I make sure to respond to every comment on RUclips, as well as PMs on Discord, and pings on the server :) It's just a thing I like to do, I don't feel right not responding, it's like someone walking up to me, saying something, and I just look the other way and walk off lol.
I didn't see you on stream... did I miss you by any chance? So that's why I didn't demonstrate the Demon.
I have a new stream time though that I announced here in the YT community tab, as well as through polls both on YT and on the Discord. Wasn't sure if you missed those notifications :) But yeah from now on I'm streaming at noon PST, seems to be a landslide preference among viewers. I might also change to Wednesdays and Fridays, instead of Tuesdays and Fridays, depending on another poll. Democracy ftw.
I don’t even know anymore, I’m getting better but some moves just come out of no where and get one shotted
Great guide though, the only thing I will disagree with is the rarity of the last swipe on his dance move 17:30.
If you need help with Isshin, I'll be here :)
I'm currently playing through Bloodborne and kind of sucking at it because I forgot all about the dance, and that ENDURANCE BAR. Nioh 2 is on my list but sadly will have to wait - my list for 2020 is so long lol.
Again, congratulations. True ShinOP of the realm.
I need guide of this but using no Kuro’s charm blocking him in that mode still destroys my health
@@alexisarcos703 I *am* making a guide for Isshin :) it'll be out in late January, early February. It's quite massive.
And yeah on max difficulty, Isshin and the Demon are... no joke. You could consider just starting a new playthrough and do it that way - way easier.
