People, get a backstop, you can stop on a postage stamp with one as you can put all of your weight on it and because your leaning back into it, you naturally counter the forward motion stopping makes your body want to do.
faced with a time where i need to perform emergency braking, i am on my back stop so hard that i have my other skate off the ground and behind me as a counter balance and the rear wheels of my stopping skate are barely touching the ground, im pretty much balancing on just the stop.
On the streets i go though a backstop pretty fast but inside they last a very long time.
At indoor venues i get great fun out of returning to my stuff at the end of a speed skate session and leave it till the last second and absolutely stand on the back stop with it screaming like a skidding car and watch the spectators squirm when they think im about to pile into them ha ha.
