- www.vladtv.com - On this honorary episode of The Vlad Couch, DJ Yella from the iconic Compton group, N.W.A., sits down to discuss the group's highs, lows, and every diss track in between. Even when it comes to the infamous crew's name, N****s Wit Attitudes, Yella says "that's a statement that's so far ahead of itself."
Despite their highly-publicized beefs throughout the late 80's/early 90's, DJ Yella recalls a specific time the group stuck together to perform their hit "F*** tha Police," the anti-cop record the F.B.I (or any other form of authority) wasn't too fond of. "Cube wasn't even at the end of his verse," DJ Yella recalls of the first and last time N.W.A. performed the track during a show in Detroit, Michigan. "They ran us out of that city."
DJ Yella - who was a consultant for the biopic "Straight Outta Compton" - says he hasn't "done music since" Eazy E passed away due to complications from AIDS. He remembers the "Boyz-N-The Hood" performer "was not a natural rapper." "He had to be coached. But he had the sound," Yella recalls.
Press play to hear more about Ice Cube's departure from the group, a possible N.W.A. reunion in the near-future, and why to this day DJ Yella hasn't let Dr. Dre know his answer when it came to signing with Death Row Records.
"Straight Outta Compton" is now in theaters worldwide.
DJ Yella that 1 cool as uncle at the family function who u actually wanna talk too
+KiNgTeEzY 101 This comment made my day
vlad acts like he is slow asking the same questions 987 dam times
Got damn right bro.. da only nigga u speaking 2 period lol
Yep
hahahaha UNK YELLA thats a fact...
This guy rocks. He did great. He stays out of the beefs that don't involve him, he doesn't care what people do, he just looks at his life, and does his job. Great guy.
Lol wtf? He seems cool and awesome, but this is nearly a waste of an interview. Every fucking question, I dunno, I dont ask, I dunno, I would assume, I think so, I ain't sure, I dunno. Seriously, stop playing the fence and say what's what.
Maybe he's just Yella.
@@joelara3750 not gonna front like i know everything, but from what i've seen the older generation, got the "mind my buisness" mentality. Today we got the "gossip" mentality. See the Pras interview, dude got tight lips
@@joelara3750 what are u on lol
Facts. I'm the exact same way. If it doesn't have anything to do with me i stay the hell out of the drama, period.
I'd do a crime with yella, he wouldn't snitch
Dvsty Music yeah
Yella the type of dude to give you advice, and end it saying "but I don't know"
Or you didn't hear that from me😂😂😂
Yo that got me 😂😂
Yella looks like Smokey Robinson's son or something.
I did not see that until now lol
Smokey Robinson's alter ego is Dj Yella.
😂😂
he knows alot more then he let's on
Taylor Bergeron the fuck does that even mean? Like this is an interrogation or something. Lol some shit aint your business to know.
adeep187 Yhh but u can tell his scared to say certain things.
Heych otb i wouldn't say scared. He just doesn't like drama or say the wrong thing. He's like that in all his interviews
Taylor Bergeron one vlad interview I forget who it was but they said Dre was getting to drunk at that party the dee barnes accident and eazy told yella " you need to watch dre" and yella said I will. Michel'le said dj yella was at the party and watches the whole beat down go down but in this interview he said "idk what happened I wasn't there"
adeep187 well it seems like he's extremely cautious to avoid drama. Like almost to the point of overcautious but I can't blame him. I just (for me) would like to know certain things he knows about the story lol.
Yella seems like the coolest most down-to-earth member of NWA. He never was the one with the big ego in the group, that's for sure. If you look up old NWA footage on RUclips, Yella talks about how they tried to get him to rap on some tracks, but he didn't want any limelight, he just wanted to stay in the background and produce and mix.
This brings back so many memories. I had to hide my NWA album from my parents.
Yella seems like the coolest most approachable member of NWA
+MrDylanJoshua Yeah probably because he has the smallest ego. He even said that the rest of NWA tried to get him to rap on some tracks, but he just wanted to be a background person doing the producing & mixing. He didn't want the limelight.
+Keyser Soeze I would've loved to meet Eric!
+DiverseLA Yea but I'm pretty sure Yella rapping would've sounded dope as hell.
last night he deejayed at my town in Macedonia, he took 40 minutes taking photos and signing autographs to the fans after the show. really great dude
@@MegaChorro123 he had a half ass verse/spoken word part on the bridge of Real Niggaz
Yeah, can listen to Yella interviews all day. Just a super laid back and nonchalant cat
You should check what 'nonchalant' means, son. Yella is far from a disinterested apathetic. The word doesn't fit a man this animated and cheerful.
Far from nonchalant my g lol
I think that person just means laid back. Perception is everything.
I can watch Yella interviews all day! He's just like a regular cool down to earth dude.
***** In the full interview he says he was never into the glamour. He would just do work and lay back. Most Djs from his time period were pretty quiet dudes...they were just into playing and making the music.
he seems like he was kinda the nerd of the group ya know?
Marry him then
Erick Villalobos hey don't hate
Nuclear Brony just saying
Yella's character in Straight Outta Compton had the all best one liners in the whole movie.
David Richardson especially/thats why im gonna fuck his bitch
David Richardson he got the most pussy too lol
Oh yeah..
How does this video not have 1,000,000 views? This channel has videos and clips with these unknown, barely literate street thugs that have hundreds of thousands of views. Yet a full length, in depth interview with a member of the group that started it all only has 69,000 views after being posted for nearly 3 years. Yet another example of what is wrong with the kids these days. They have absolutely not clue what good music is. I am not a rap/hip hop fan at all. But I dig NWA and their legacy. These kids would rather listen to come mumbling idiot about getting shot or bragging out his new sneakers...instead of listening to one of the greats. Shame on them.
my favorite part is when he didn’t have a black shirt to wear 😂😂😂
he is so funny as a older man 😂 he’s one of those older men that calls young women “young tender” 😂😭
Pretty Pesos He does seem hella cool
Pretty Pesos got the roast beef vajayjay.
Wtf never heard that one tho sounds stoopid
Wassup young tender 🤣
Not Yella 🤣🤣😭
Love Yella he does come across as a mad cool dude, and
I Love how he's down for Eazy E Childrens..Hes a True Friend.
Much Respect Yella!
No doubt .Yella is 4 real
Ren next please
I wish. Kendrick Lamar interviewed him n the rest of nwa
Yella don't want no smoke with anybody in these streets😂😂🤣🤣
I really respect yella, it's like he's the forgot member of NWA, he shouldn't be he was the nice one the kind one. he was the only NWA member to attend eazy's funeral. this guy deserves allot of respect, give it to him.
Dexter Connor the forgotten member is mc ren if you ask me . Yella everywhere .he went into the porn industry made more money then he ever had with nwa
Dexter Connor Arabian Prince was completely left off the movie. He was one of the originals.
@@orlandomolina7192 he was on the album cover for Straight Outta Compton. I was shocked when the movie came out and he was nowhere to be found.
Pete McCorvey he’s on both album covers
@@orlandomolina7192 I know. Straight Outta Compton was nothing but a remixed and remastered copy of NWA and the Posse.
DJ "Oh Yeah" Yella.
Yells may be cool but don’t let that distract you from the fact that the man produced over 300 XXX flicks
He did what....
And that makes him not cool?
He made porn🤭🤔🙄😒🤫
Some would say he’s a hero
@@lolforlife2487 ppp
I always liked Yella that album he dropped right after Eazy-E passed dedicated to E still gives me goosebumps especially that track "this is 4 tha E"
That album guilted me outta my first piece of pussy. Walked to the record store and picked up the album, met up with a neighborhood ho on the way home. Popped in the CD and started getting to work lol. This is 4 tha E starts playing and killed it for me. I started thinking, shit I don't wanna die of AIDS too lol
Give us a full Arabian Prince interview please
Him and eazy e are my favorites from nwa I just like the personality types of those two because they are just funny. And another thing yella kept saying idk but I'm sure he knows the answers to the questions
Vlad what happened to the full Tray Deee interview?? I was waiting on that one.
They always discredit Eazy E though, according to Ice Cube, Eazy E came up with the name of NWA, and yella doesn't know, how can't he not know something so basic. Yella also said he didn't know why Ice Cube didn't do Boyz N da Hood, Cube couldn't do it cause he already belonged to a group, CIA, and their Record label didn't want anything to do with gangsta music, Eazy E on the other hand owned Ruthless Records, and Ruthless was gangsta, and he could distribute it, so that's why they asked Eazy to do it. One thing Yella said that made sense was that he wasn't with the group at the beginning, which is true, it was Eazy, Dre and Cube, the others came later, that's why they don't know the specifics.
Their life was fast as a blink of an eye.. when you get older.. you forget something's. I was on a football team we won 3 championships in a row.. for the life of me as the years went by I could not remember how we won the second one. At the funeral of one of my friends spoke and reviled how we won that 2nd game.
Yella just seems so pleasant lmbooo like if you didn't know any better you would never believe he was in the "worlds most dangerous group" 😉
Deb facts
YELLA was the flavor behind all the classics. Dude got a ear for samples.
Yella is without a doubt the coolest motherfucking DJ and the coolest member of NWA. Like seriously, he's so laid back and chill.
yes he is chill every time we hang out. its funny because now hes kinda against cursing or at least when i do it
It seems like everybody always says Dre they got really really close with and then after that everything goes to shit so they trade a root cause everything because nowadays he's known as a wife-beater so
You should Interview BG Knocc Out, Gangsta Dresta, Steffon, Kokane or Dirty Red. They were all around during Eazy's last years , thru the deathrow beef & all the way up to when he was in the hospital
+Phvkin Dope don't forget H.W.A. too
Phvkin Dope
That right
I wish vlad just posted the full interview first I mean I already heard most of this
+KING VINYLZ lol sadly that wont happen.
He wants to monetize tha fuck outta his vidz.
+Langfocus +j4k3y671
Yeah who doesn't want money lol. Its annoying but its good marketing since he knows people will watch all the episodes.

Michael R. I don’t know your age but Back then I was a known LA Dj back in the early and late 80s when Yella use to Dj high school dances around south central and Compton before dre was even heard of once the music came and ICE T And NWA along with EAZY. Our parents didn’t like the music like we are today with mumble rap.
I've seen interviews with Ringo Starr talking about the Beatles career that have over half a million to a million views. Yella is the Ringo of the Beatles of rap but gets no love. White folk cherish their legends deeper and for longer it seems.
I'm from the UK. Hearing this for the first time in 1988 as 15 year old kid. This shit blue my mind and my mother's for all the wrong reasons, but I didn't care. Still my favourite hip hop group of all time.
This was a great interview! Yella is a humble laid back guy!
+Gregory Carter Yella like that cool uncle at the family reunion
Alyssa Ortiz Right lol
Ive always thought its been fucked up that Yella is the forgotten member of NWA. Cube and Dre have even collaborated with Ren. Also when there were talks of an NWA reunion, I dont remember hearing about Yella being included and to my knowledge, Yella hasnt worked on any records with the other members.
i feel u
He was a DJ, not a rapper, meaning he prolly worked on some stuff, but he was never on the forefront.
Quincy Jones was not at the forefront either, but he got his credit for his work on Thriller.
thriller was considered one of the greatest albums of all time ...
And Straight Outta Compton, Eazy Duz It, No One Can Do it Better, and Niggaz4life pioneered west coast hip hop. Straight Outta Compton is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
Man they shoulda put more Yella in SOC, cuz he's hilarious.
Haha! I seen Run DMC do exactly that in 2000 in Hollywood. 1 song throw the mic leave. I always try to explain it to people. Haha
I wish he explained and spoke just a tad more on intimate questions.... i respect his G though
I admire his ability to function around drama and things without involvement.Fckn brilliant!
Yella sound like that cool ass uncle that you only meet every other year that cool and laid back but got mad stories on how he used to tour with the Delfonics or some shit...
Yella too nice for the rap scene, he is good but he never sold himself ever, he was never interested in beefing, which during that time everyone was doing and their careers were sparking big time off it.
We need another Yella interview
Dj Yella seems like one down to earth dude . Reminds me of flesh n Bone & Layzie Bone . Down to earth people are hard to find ....
dj della seems like that favorite uncle you can just kick it with....
+narone thomas the guy they chose to play him was perfect.
I agree, he had the same mannerisms as yella
the actor looks just like his son
We get it Yella, you're a DJ, you can take the head phones off now LOL!
That's them Dr Dre headphones he's on his game talking to Vlad bout them good ol days, 💯.
I always wondered who “the Mexican dude with the 40 ounce” was.. dopest interview Vlad has done
💀
Rick Mendez that was krazy d
Alot of the questions that DJ Yella didn't answer or avoided, Michel'le answered most of them in her interview.
Shaw Sway I think cube left because he wanted the limelight
ice cube didn't do Boyz in the hood because he was already in a group
very intelligent
He wrote it though
I think we found Orlando Browns father!!!!!
10:06 To respond that question: ''Why they were 'forced' to make EazyE rap on that song?'' I believe they had to because Eazy wanted to start rapping.
Putting both Alonzo and Yellas storys together, Alonzo said that Eazy bailed Dre out when Lonzo had enough of Dres bullshit and he left him in jail and this probably caused the breaking between Dre and Alonzo, so Dre had to make some beats for Eazy to pay his debt and thats why i believe Eazy was designated to rap on Boyz n the hood. Not sure tho, just putting this out like that thinking about what Alonzo said...
smdh ... they made eazy rap cause he was clowning them for making a song for a new york artist rapping california shit. with that said dre told him why dont you rap it since u talking shit !!!
+Julio Guerra Lol yeah thats the bullshit they 've told u in the movie, which was like 65% fiction and 25% reality and 10% bullshit. Arabian Prince, was one of the NWA founders and its nowhere to be seen in the movie, key member right there.
+TheKillahAkASuperP
movie ? u mean this new movie that just came out. truthfully i havent had a chance to see it i hope i get to before it goes on bluray. well im 35 yrs old i remember after the nwa / ice cube diss tracks or what not ice cube had a interview addressing how he wished he never wrote that boyz in the hood song cause how he and dre convinced him to rap cause again ice cube was pissed the new york group did not do it. this was a interview way back in 92 -93 cant remember much that far and he was being interviewed by the dee barnes female we all know dre whooped her ass lbs.So remembering much of that interview ice cube after leaving nwa eazy e got big headed over that song according to cube amd when jerry got in the mix as fans we all have our opinions so yea .i would like to find that video again .
+Julio Guerra and to answer your question i lost track just a bit. he did go into saying that yea ice cube took it has making fun of eazy asling him to do the BITH song . he said dre took it more serious but they were all laughing at him and making jokes cause cube didnt have no faith in E doing that song so if by chance thays portrayed in the movie and cube and dre got some say so in tje movie then buddy its coming from the horses mouth fam . what is there to say then that u feel me .
Vlad should have become an interrogator , trying to get into all the gangsta shit but Yella is dodging those questions like the straight up G he is, he aint no snitch. Cool , humble and down to earth man. Gotta look up to Dj Yella!
Mad Respect from Greece!
MrTRELLAMENOS I also think he is scared doe. Certain things he can't say
nah
MrTRELLAMENOS He doesn’t have anything to hide.
He's such a nice and down to earth guy
This could've been so informative if you weren't so - as usual - about fishing for gossip, the creative process on all that WCWC stuff etc. what a wasted opportunity
DJ Yella... The most down to earth member of NWA! He stayed down with Eazy-E & Ruthless!
Funny how vlad telling yella who was there and is a know it all when yella was there for real
i'll never forget when EFIL4ZAGGIN dropped because I played it everyday like 6 months. Anger & Hedonism at it's finest : )
+stereo_steve ur black tho...
and I'm ok with that
You have to remember Yella is still from the hood and is the uncle that got into shit you won't hear about lol
Yella seems like a cool ass dude he stayed away from the drama and he just did his own thing respect for that
Yella smart as hell dont get involved in drama and stuck em for group for not going to easy funeral
Yella reminds me of that Uncle who is always telling good stories at family gatherings n shit hahaha
Can we get a King Tee or DJ Pooh inteview?
Vlad acted like Yella was stupid for not going to Death Row. Maybe he knew what suge and his gang was about, and wanted NO PARTS of that. Sounds very WISE to me. suge's gang beat down DJ UNKNOWN for the "Death Row" name to even get the label started.
This is Thee most genuine friend any man or woman could come across especially in music industry! Shot out to YELLA he is loyal -genuine GEM 💎 out of the group! N.W.A. Movie was fire 🔥 but it def seemed to leave a lot of facts.
look up the video "easy E checked yella" lol
+durtysouththugsta the look on Yella's face was priceless!!!
+Myke Luther King LMAO
Goodness,
*thats kinda raw*
When yella says “He wasn’t a rapper”
I immediately think of
Supa hot fire
Yella was a real friend to Eazy. He’s still loyal to this day. 🤞🏼
"Yella were you in NWA"
"Some people say I was but I don't know. I may have been in the Rap Group or the wrestling promotion but I don't get involved with these questions"
He seem like such a cool dude. Glad he getting back in the music. He took rap to a place it had never been and made history. After Easzy passed, he just figured what's the point. He already accomplished his dreams and beyond.
Love this guy!!! Such a great movie! I'm obsessed
Cube didn’t rap it because eazy actually fit the mood of the song as far as havin the 64 impala and all that
This nigga lookin like Smokey Robinson
DJ yella is as real as they get nothing phony about him
He's so knowledgeable.
Great Interview!!
"You like music?" - "Oh Yeah."
"What was the first thing you did when you woke up?" - "Oh yeah, yeah."
"How old were you when you started making music?" - "Yeah, Yeah yeah oh yeah."
Yeah
Yeah 😂😂😂😂😂
Eazy had to be moving weight to be paying $100K for a video in the 80s...
all this time vlad been uploading throw back tuesdays clips when he could've just uploaded the full interview.
He does it for the views
+Diego Ges he's a Jew..
Yella fucks shit ALL the way up on the drums in 2hard mothaphukkas ! Still one of my all time fav jams.....
We need MC Ren, I want to decipher if he dedicated his record to Eazy legit or just banking off E’s legacy
Ok he said 5yrs ago be ready well it's 2021 I've been ready since 93 tell them bros hurry ☝ yella
Yella’s so cautious still, he wants to answer truthful, but nothing that would ever comprise his friends. We all know now Easy was an associated Kelly Park Crip, but even Yella won’t say for definite. Nuff respect Yella
I think Yella boy just brought the females around lol. His official title could be A&R
So, a new NWA album is comin out?
hbat 2008 :) Yamimty el 4aleya :'(
I saw like 5+ clips and said fukkit lemme watch the whole thing instead and my god, one of the BEST decisions everrr
it was boyz in the hood first then it was dopeman
Andrew Staples I guess he forgot
yall read his book Straight Outta Compton, My Untold Story
Damn yella dont get his roses like he should
No one talks about mc ren. Why?
I hate that too. I personally think vlad keeps ducking the ren questions because he wants to interview him in the future.
+Leroy Ren declined to do an interview
yeah he lays pretty low these days living out in aplm springs. hes cool though i havent had a chance to meet him i might ask yella
hiphopjunkie4life I love every member, I bought Ren’s Ruthless For Life album when it came out and it was great, I’m surprised that album didn’t blow up to be huge. MC REN was a monster on the mic.
The Perfect Guy will be on Lifetime in a Year or Two.
***** Thats where it should of been to begin with
Eagle Gains Exactly.
***** lol
+Eagle “Beatz” Gains agreed! lol
2nd album was way better than the first one ... the sound was on point
Nah...no Cube, plus SOC had more classics. But both were great!
My guy was filming some balls deep action when he recieved Eazys warning call
Bruh 😂😂😂😂
Vlad dry hatin on cube talm bout he almost last nigga he rite under dre
MY guy Dj Yella, great dj/producer and pioneer of the West Coast sound! #RESPECT
Very enjoyable and informative interview as always.
Bone-Foe The Love of $ has to be 1 of the smoothest beats of all-time
They stole that from Yomo and Maulkie, also on Ruthless. Great conscious artists!
Yella produced that or w.e. sampled it? .....bout roll up, and throw dat b*** on...
I remember when all the beefs went down and Dre and Cube left. The only one to stay loyal to Eazy while being neutral was Yella. He finished Eazys last full album and made a song dedicated to Eazy on his own solo album. Ren kinda distances himself from Eazy even though he stayed on Ruthless which I thought was kinda weak. I think that’s why it came back to bite his reputation.
Did he sleep through the entire period? Jesus, Yella. "I dont know, dont want to know..."
😂😂😂😂😂
Yella ain't saying nothing. He's like trying to put some smoke in your pocket. Lol
Regardless of what anyone says about yella he seems hella coo and down to earth 💯💪🏽✊🏽
it was dre idea to dress like that lol
I just want to be friends with Yella! He’s just such a lovely genuine person ❤️
Lol vlad said..... "This doesn't make any sense right now "
I remember him from being down with Eazy E.
