I am a truck driver for the union. I drive NON STOP for 10 hours a day/night. What are you talking about I don’t do anything. (Not nothing btw. Looks like even longshoreman are more educated than you.)
VA needs machines because the employees don’t want to work, but want to ask for more money, WHY?? Truck drivers should be the ones on strike for putting up with those lazy workers at the ports.
I’m OK if the union strike affects a single business or service. But when union workers can strike and affects every day living for Americans, that’s too powerful. This won’t bode well for the administration if they don’t step in and try to help with negotiations.
Longshoremen should consider their future. Not only are they indirectly supporting a president who intends to eliminate their jobs through high tariffs, but this president will also compel them to return to work if they strike. As Donald Trump once remarked, admiring Elon Musk, “You walk in, you simply say, ‘You want to quit?’ They go on strike…And you say, ‘That’s okay, you’re all gone.’”
When to strike is like deciding to have a baby. It’s never a “good,” time. However, someone big needs to stand up to our feudal lords. We’ve felt the “pinch,” for years. I think it’s their turn.
Those robotic armatures(?)... Each one of those things are staffed with an actual human, yes? So that there's a real human being there to operate the thing (even if it's just enough to safely stop it temporarily, if something goes wrong). Because, y'know, ...those self-driving cars *never* get into catastrophic accidents when there isn't a (sober and awake) human behind the wheel. To take over when something goes wrong, eh. *(That, by the way, was sarcasm. ...Just sayin'.) So, presuming that there's at least one Union-member human being for each robotic arm, how *many* humans are hired for that purpose (safety? prevention of catastrophic loss of time and equipment?)? Could that number be negotiated? Yknow, to add personnel in a meaningful way (that would add/assist the work being done)? Just asking. Owen Jay Korman Philadelphia, PA

I don't mind higher wages and protection against automation until you mess with my wallet. So they complain about not getting paid enough but when they go on strike their going cause the prices to rise. Therefore making it harder on them in the process and make them complain more. Sounds like someone else needs to get the job or automation is needed to get rid of complaining workers.
I see. You’d like to see the hollowing out of the middle class continue? Don’t expect a UBI from these corporations from their massive profits after your job is either automated or handed to AI!
Given how incompetent the longshoremen are( just read the complaints from truckers and shipping companies) I hope they all get fired and replaced. They are more corrupt than the teamsters. Not touching containers until they get overtime pay is one of their favorite tricks for example.
So you care about worker's getting more money into their wallets unless that money isn't coming out of your wallet, gotcha. They're wouldnt be strikes if their bosses would've agreed to there voiced needs in the first place. Also, there's reason why barely anybody wants that type of job, as well as to why automation has progressed nowhere near to effectively replace and entire port staff.
