Since Undertale's release, one question has plagued the fan base - Just who is W. D. Gaster? And why don't I ever find this mystery man? Many have speculated that it was just a little code that Toby Fox threw in last minute, but there is so much more to it than that. Welcome to the episode that I am probably most nervous about.

i always interpreted that scene as asgore being so broken by his past actions that his only reaction to being told he’s killed you before is just to nod sadly

I disagree. Asgore has killed a bunch of other kids just like you in the past, and obviously feels immense guild and grief over this. When Asgore nods to you telling him he's "killed you before," I don't think it's to imply that he's aware of Frisk being able to save/load. Rather i believe it's because he knows he's killed "you" before, "you" being a determined human child that fell into the underground. It's not really implied anywhere else he's aware of Frisk's ability.

@@lapras999yt2 I agree. To be honest I love the theory of Sans being Ness. I may have not played Earthbound, but I still respect it. While it's understandable disagreeing with that theory, it's just cruel hating someone who is simply posting a theory. He's just suggesting it, it's up to the person themselves to decide if they believe that theory or not. He's just really passionate about his work. no one should be faulted for that passion.

Matpat, I know the hate can be too much some times but that's because people who really like you and your videos just don't think it matters to say how much they like you. I've been watching you for 6 years now, which is third of my life. You are my favorite youtuber ever. You have made my life better. I've probably already watched this video when it came out, just as I did with the ness one (I rewatched it today), but coming back for this content is one of my favorite pastimes and I think Undertale is an amazing game, I love the emotion, the lore, and the mystery and as I've finally gotten to play through undertale for myself, this video is the perfect way to refresh my memory on Gaster. Just remember, no matter how many haters you have, you will always have the millions of loyal theorists here to support you, keep up the great work Matpat and team theorists

This intro still upsets me that so much love went into something and all it seemed to receive was ignorant hatred stemming from lack of understanding and/or wrongful conviction.
i remember getting the wrong number song on my first playthrough, then playing the game again, getting all the funny "wait I've been here before lol" dialogue, and then... not getting the song again
it crepped me out to an incredible degree, more than any horror project I've ever seen
I don’t even understand why giving an Undertale copy to the pope was judged as a bad idea. If there’s a game that respects the religion’s principles, it is Undertale. It teaches us love, respect and caring about each other.

I'm surprised to hear that Mat giving the Pope a copy of Undertale got him so much hate. The game is very specifically about mercy and that was part of the message he wanted to share with the Pope. I don't get it? o_o

The pope doesnt have a computer, I'm fairly certain, thus most people called Mat stupid for giving him that. A tree isn't a dumb gift, as it's a symbol of growth, and a symbol of life. The surfboard probably meant something to its giver. Am I saying that him giving the pope undertale was a good decision? No. He won't be able to play it. But, I understand he gave the pope the game because of the meaning it has to Mat. That's what I think the gifts are truly about.

Guys, don't be a jerk. MatPat generally loves making theories, especially Undertale. So stop hating on his Undertale theories or just anything theory related at all. And to just see how serous he had to be with some of these rude commentators, really made me feel a bit sad. So if your one of these commentators that makes rude comments on MatPats videos, think before you speak. What I'm getting at is, think back to when you were young and you really wanted to show your parents something really cool you did, made, or found. That's basically the same kind of ecstatic excitement MatPat feels when he post's a theory about something he put so much effort into trying to make, and him showing you his creation that he is really proud of. So don't go around posting rude comments, this is some peoples careers to make funny, educational, entertainment, or persuasive content.
