this theory was proved wrong in the first 5 minutes of chapter 2, where it’s confirmed darkners are objects brought to life by the fountain. jevil is most likely one of the joker cards, while spamton is spam mail personified

If I can add something to the "Susie is poor" theory, I'd like to point out in a small line of dialogue at one point, Susie says, and I quote: "You're kidding me, all I had for breakfast today was some chalk!"
She didn't get to eat breakfast that morning. She ate the chalk because she's starving.
After watching this, I feel really bad for her. Lots of bullies grow up in a broken household. Perhaps this is true for Susie... I really hope Toby gives more of her back story in later chapters

I remember that! I always thought that was weird, but Mat just glanced over it so quickly.
I think that's just Kris. That's the moment Chara, or whatever entity, gives Kris the power to reload saves. So I think before that we were Kris, the creepy quiet kid who's nice, but after that moment we're Kris the creepy quiet kid who's nice but prone to being posessed by evil.

Another possible context clue to everything discussed here can also be found in "Don't Forget": the song that plays at the end credits. Although the song is short, the lyrics acknowledge the sense of (Kris') depression and imagination:
"When the light is running low/And the shadows start to grow/And the places that you go/Seem like fantasy..."
I also hear "Don't Forget" as someone reassuring Kris that everything will be okay ("I'm with you in the dark"), but it is difficult to tell which character in Deltarune would say that.

"No one can choose who they are in this world" is an oddly specific choice of words. No one from this world can and yet player decides who Noelle is by the end of chapter 2. Player is indeed not from this world. I am absolutely in love with this disassociation between player and Kris.
Also the ball of junk is probably Ralsei and that's how he came to the cyber-world

Huge connection I noticed is the River Person from Undertale made a comment about “Beware the man from the other world”, and with the implication that Deltarune is another world along with Sans having a puzzle from Ice-Es which is only in Undertale, I think Sans came over from Deltarune to Undertale 7:57

For example people make choices like altering the timeline, policy, war outcome, incident, death and est can cause similarly, butterfly effect and a ghost effect can have a effect on our ways of living.

15:24 The whole thing about Jevil being driven insane by the Knight is completely wrong, since Jevil mentions "kings" in dialogue, so he was insane before the Knight even came to the Dark World to make the King Of Spades crazy. When Seam mentions the person that drove Jevil crazy, he didn't say the Knight or even mentions in the Knight in any vagueness, instead he said "my view of this world becomes darker, yet darker".
This means Jevil was driven insane by everyone's non-existent character, W.D Gaster

If his theory is true, and Toby is following this storyline (Which I hope he is, I wanna see Wandavision and Omori in Undertale form), then Susie actually foreshadowed it. If you accept Ralsei's call to adventure, Susie will decline, saying to Kris that if they want to continue playing pretend in this world, then they go right ahead or something along those lines.
This is debunked once you grab a secret egg and put it in Assgore fridge, and the egg doesn't appear in the inventory before and also Susie wouldn't have since she eated chalk and not the e g g

But it kinda is possible, i mean if ralsei really is kris's head band then it explains why he looks like asriel and have similar name, you know, since the reason why toriel gave kris the headband is because he thinks he's a monster. He wants to be a monster. He wants to be like his brother, thus explain the similarity between ralsei and asriel. And the moment when kris realize that he's not a monster is when he gets into the school, when he start learning, that he's in fact a human. And he accept it, and to put his childhood fantasy along with old memory of asriel who's leave him, away. So he put his headband on the most forgettable places. the dark place where broom's hang(and be touched by a crime loving teenager), the school's closet. And that's why ralsei said that he's been waiting for the heroes to come for a long time, he's been waiting for for Kris, for his friend to come. That's why kris hesitate to enter the closet, he knows of what waiting inside. His fantasies, his memories, his headband. So there you have it folks deltarune is the story of a boy's ruined fantasy and a lonely headband. But that's just a theory a game theory. Thanks for reading

I know this is very late, but I just realized that Amber cards are actually post-it notes, hence Ralsei saying "It's sticky, huh Kris" when equipping Ralsei with the amber card.
Also, i think think the fridge in Asgore's shop is symbolic. The pickle jar is the Dreemurr household, with the lone pickle being Kris. The egg going into the fridge is Asriel coming home

No, there is no egg in the fridge at first, only a pickle, if you put the egg in the fridge and create another save file, that egg will still be in the fridge, and if you get an egg again from the man, you can pu that egg in the fridge as well , thus giving you two eggs.
The fact that MatPat uses both he/him and she/her for Kris makes me so happy!
I think deltrarune is an alternate timeline (where there was no war) that is affected by the genocide route of undertale. Chara and Kris have the same color shirt so I think Toby is trying to link them that way. Chara is jumping timelines and possessing Kris in there moment of weakness. Chara did say she was going to do that at the end and didnt give the player a choice in the matter. Also, this is a stretch but the ONLY character we dont kill in Undertale is Alphys. Remember those locked doors in delta rune? Maybe Alphys also jumped the timeline to follow and stop Chara and is hiding out there. (Alphys in the classroom is not the same person). The dark world is probably somehow the link between the two worlds (chapter 2 seems to open up this possibility)

Here's another peice of evidence that's overlooked!
In Undertale, alphys states that Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 is worse than the original. But in Deltarune's library, theres an anime review by an "anonymous yellow dinosaur" that states Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 is better than the original.

I believe this is a callback to Toby Fox specifically calling Deltarune a parallel universe to Undertale. It would make sense because in Undertale, Alphys LOVES Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 and hates the original, but the parallel would be the opposite of that. That said, I think it's just an easter egg to the original Alphys from Undertale since from my watching of this I didn't see any other easter eggs to her other self. Good job calling this out!

A lot of people are saying that asriel is not a twisted guy who hates humans but no asriel never hated humans it was chara on the contrary, in undertale when asriel took chara s body in the overworld he had the power to destroy all the humans and chara wanted to because chara s soul was still with asriels and asriel was resisting and trying not to hurt the humans so in deltarune i think asriel isnt the same because doesnt exist yet there since chara is filled with determination and determination can change things while susie tells us many times : " Your choices dont matter"

I'd think it's another pointer into the "it's something normal, different from Undertale" argument. Like if you think of all caps as screaming then deltarune is toned down, it's in the shadow of undertale, no doubt.
I think the reason why kris rips THEIR heart out at the end is because being with ralsei brought back painful memories.

with susie's eating chalk thing, it actually reminds me of something
children who are subjected to neglect oftentimes resort to eating things that aren't food. it's called pica and it's an eating disorder that some have for other reasons, even in places where they have actual food. i was in a psych ward for a little bit and my roommate had pica. when the staff forgot to bring her a snack, she started eating crayons. like that was the obvious alternative. (this is completely irrelevant but i tried one, did not enjoy 0/10)
my roommate was in the foster care system for a long time. it's common for those in foster care to be severely neglected, not be given their own clothes or only have one outfit, and not be given the opportunity to get basic services like hair cuts.
foster kids are extremely likely to be abused while in the system, leading to many having very standoffish personalities (understandably so) and be much too mature for their age, or at least, a lot less childish. some use fantasies and imaginations as an escape, but others are extremely pessimistic and refuse to entertain any sort of "make believe" games.
i say all of this to explain that it is my personal theory (two years after the game came out while stuck inside during quarantine binging game theories) that susie is a foster child
- no home in the town
- signs of neglect
- eating disorder behavior
- baggy and ripped clothes
- unkempt hair
- hard demeanor
- fronted hatred of kris' game while still clearly enjoying the fantasy world and playing along in her own way
*TLDR* susie shows a lot of signs that she's a neglected foster kid via her personality type, eating disorder behavior, and lack of home in the town
but that's just a theory, a deep hatred for the broken foster care system's consistent abuse of children theory
(EDIT) i forgot kris is adopted! could explain why they let susie play with the world that is clearly so personal to them; they could tell susie was in foster care and/or saw themself in susie due to similar life experiences

It’s interesting how much of this is disproved by Chapter 2. Even the pacifist/aggressive side changes things with the Snowgrave path.
Yup, Chapter 2 throws a lot into question, particularly with whether or not the dark world is real. There's decent evidence on both sides from what I can tell.

I think the 7 chapters has something to do with asriel coming back home in a week (maybe to take you back to undertale by waking you up before your cinnamon butterscotch pie gets cold)
So If Kris was asriel's "Brother" thats why he thinks of him in the dream Ralsei and weirdly looks like him because it is the face he remembers.
Kenny Is Dank and yet people still ship Kris and Ralsei together. But they did the same with Chara and Asriel in the main game so I’m not surprised

@@bloodbane6998 They aren't related. If the first chapter is anything to go by, Ralsei is nothing more than a figment of Kris' imagination. Unless you're referring to Chara and Asriel, they lived together as siblings for a very short while, but not from babyhood, so Chara at least, if not both wouldn't think of the other as siblings, just friends. Whereas we don't know when Kris was adopted, so he might think of Asriel as a sibling.

I don't know if this helps but I share you this:
When I started to play Deltarune, chapter 2 was already released. I was happy to see I have 3 save slots. I played the 1st and 2nd chapter as a pacifist. Don't know how I did but in 2nd chapter all the team started as level 2 and had different class names. The hero's name was Tactician, and not leader as in chapter 1.
Once I finished chapter 2, I started another game and after I exited and returned, I found no 2nd save game. The game progress weren't saved. I tried the same and the same happened. No new savegame.

You gotta go in bottom and use "select files from chapter 1" and get your save file. You get levels when you close fountains. Tactician is title you get after Sweet Cap'n Cakes fight.
This theory was actually really good, but it was decomfermed in chapter 2. Some points I believe:
-Susie is poor and hungry
-Since we now have a confirmed 7 chapters, Asriel will come back in the last chapter

I wonder: maybe Alphys’ “cat” who keeps drinking her milk, unseen, is actually Susie. You made the point that perhaps Susie is poor and she’s seen eating everything from chalk to cakes. Since we don’t notice her in the overworld after the school scene, maybe Alphys talking about her “cat that she hasn’t seen yet” is a hint towards Susie and her whereabouts. Perhaps she’s just looking for some snackage and since the bowl of milk is being refilled by Alphys, she continues to come back and drink it in secret. (Edit: good lord! Thanks for all the likes ❤️)

Musikur thanks! Yeah at 10:48 He shows Kris and Susie but on Susie’s side, the alleyway is in the back and it just clicked with me. Nothing was really ever said about “Alphys’ invisible cat” but I think it just makes sense given his current theory that Susie must be the one creeping around drinking the milk.
Anybody else notice how the game seems to reference milk several times? The thing with Alphys's "cat", I think Ralsei talked about a "dinner made of nothing but milk" or something like that, and I'm pretty sure there was more.
Mr. Pokirby that’s actually pretty interesting. I never really noticed that but now that I think about it, milk is normally a symbol of youth which fits even more with the theme here. Kris is growing up and people are leaving and coming into life in different ways. Perhaps the motif of milk is a means of subtle communication of the desire to be young again!
