It is amazing that a player takes a mark & goes over the boundary, plays on back into the field & gets called for it (this video).....YET today, so many players are having set shots at goal, standing out of bounds, play on to improve the angle but the Umpire NEVER blows the whistle for being out of bounds...
What is the reason for making them punch pass the ball instead of just throwing it like most other sports? Does it present some specific advantages or disadvantages?
@@R.J._Lewis throwing is too easy since you can do it with only one hand or trop the ball in a tackle if throwing was allowed, this would mean that tackling would barley be rewarded and easily got out of. If throwing the ball was allowed then it would be extremely hard to defend and barley anybody would ever kick the ball which is what the game should be about.
It's a dumb rule that the defender can't move when on the mark. Keath's case is even more dumb, as he wasn't moving towards the player kicking. He wasn't trying to close in.

@@planetx1595 - Currently available video shows the Essendon players wearing black armbands. That's usually a sign of mourning for a club identity or their close relative, but on this occasion it was a sledge against the Lions' previous use of intravenous drip (very recently banned).
